I live in the northeast of the US. The Indians are buying up all these old country stores. Little small towns with the old quaint country store is now an Indian mart. It’s so odd. I've lived in Surrey BC for most of my life, I'm an avid outdoors enthusiast and like most Canadians respect and admire nature's beauty. Years ago they built a pond on an undeveloped lot next to my neighborhood. It was a beautiful addition to the town as it allowed wildlife a place to find shelter, while giving us a little nature loop within walking distance. On multiple occasions I have caught people dumping literal truckloads of their households' trash into this small forest on a backroad I frequent. When confronted they laugh it off, and generally don't appear to see that what they're doing is wrong. The pond itself is also filled with crap, despite the posted signs informing of the harm this causes the ecosystem. From my (and most people who live here) experience it is overwhelmingly a single demographic that is responsible for the uncleanness in our shared spaces. Any BC resident can tell you about the access to beautiful nature we are privileged to, and I hate more than anything to see it being desecrated in the way I have. Most people will not speak up about this.

I'd honestly prefer Indians over Middle Easterners. Hindus and Sikhs aren't proselytizers and generally have a much more mellow religious vibe, unlike Muslims. Plus, Indian food is the shit, I dig curry and samosas. The thing you really have to be careful of, as is the situation with any instance of mass migration, is to be aware if newcomers are taking advantage of Western social assistance programs, like the Somalis have done with the welfare system. They need to understand that to be welcomed as new Americans, they have to work. Indians have proven to be industrious through hotels and convenience shops. I'd prefer them to Middle Easterners or certain cultures of Africans. That all being said, they should also come to understand that, having moved to a modern country, there's very little point in having massive families with ten kids. No need to endlessly spawn more people to help with chores like water fetching when you have indoor plumbing. It's an unfortunate trend a lot of migrants have trouble getting over, the endless breeding that makes locals anxious that they'll become a minority in their own country in just a few generations.

I think RocaNews you need to be a little more thoughtful into your questioning. I'm also feeling like it's a little lazy to do this research and not include certain data points with it. Or to actually create processes/opportunities to get "newcomers" and "long-time residents" to speak together, a division of people that is far more complicated than the division you add to in this documentary. Think about your values and what the goal of this is. Reflect on this before you just go do the same elsewhere. Look at the comments. What are you adding to/contributing to relieving tension within and between communities? What is your overall purpose.

Lot of people....the original citizens feel the burn since the world around them is changing. It's natural that they harbor these ill feelings. Most of them are ill informed and have these racist views. It's true for every immigrant community that emigrated from Europe as well. You have Irish immigrant towns, little Italy's, China towns, little India's, polish neighborhoods in Chicago etc ...these kind of neighborhoods are all over north America (USA & Canada). This is natural. Assimilation happens in 1 or 2 generations. Economic expansion and fulfilling social security benefits for the older generation needs population growth and a new younger workforce. This is achieved thru immigration of skilled labor force of all kinds. Population dynamics and demographics keep changing all the time and it has happened thru out human history. Now we are living in an interconnected and inter dependent world. It's better to adapt to change and move on and retain your loyalty to the country they migrated to and contribute positively to their economy and try to assimilate as much as possible and be aware of the sensitivities. This new immigration is from Asia and they are of different ethnicities and cultural background unlike european immigration that happened earlier. So some backlash to these new people's is to be expected and there will be lot of scapegoating and stereotypical epithets that will employed to demonize the new immigrant groups. We all have to adjust assimilate and move on in this great circle of life.

Immigrants are unaware that the great opportunity they have in Quebec is worth its weight in gold. During their stay, they spend two, three, or five years here and neither speak, read, nor write French. They go about their daily lives like any other Quebecer who is settled here. And when the time comes to leave, they have to sell off what little they own and return with nothing.
