Remember, it's not just Canada that is responding to Trump. Mexico and China are also responding simultaneously to Trump's idiotic tariffs. Mexico, Canada, and China are America's biggest suppliers of materials crucial to the American economy and are huge markets for American goods. If Trump thinks he can fight all of these countries at once and not have America receive grievous damage, then he is more deluded than we thought.

Canadian here. Wake up Canadians. Many people are praising Trudeau for this speech. Don't. He is out as Liberal leader within the week. He doesn't have to follow through on anything he said. Plus, he just stated that he's smart enough to suggest that Trump just put a 25% tax on Canadian goods for Americans but he also thinks that you are dumb enough not to realize that he just put a 25% tax on Canadians for American goods. Trudeau basically created the situation for these tariffs (open border to let anyone come here). He loves this as he gets to take the apparent moral high ground for the first time in his life and wants this speech to be the way he is remembered rather than years of failing Canada. Forget about the last 9 years and vote Liberal if you are a fool.

Look at how much of the Northern US border is unguarded compared to the southern border. To my mind, Trump would have started the trade war with Canada no matter what measures Canada undertakes. My guess is the underlying motive behind the whole theatre is to somehow pressurize Canada into complete submission. Remember his comments about Canada should become the 51st state? I presume that in reality his eyes are set on Canada‘s vast resources and the potential north-west passage which would be a fantastic gift to his master Putin.

I remember when we had a president that could speak in complete sentences without any name calling and pointing fingers at everyone else. That being said, I do agree that the crossings from Canada are not nearly as significant as compared to our southern border. It would be nice to see more from Canada in their investments to secure the border and stop crossings, cartel movements, and drug operations. The US has spent more than 409 billion since 2003 on such operations. Regardless, I feel for you Canadians and it sucks that it has come to this and I hope we keep strong relations in the future. Hopefully we can come to a fair deal soon. Mexico and China are the big players that do not do nearly enough to prevent these crimes. In fact, the Mexican government helps the cartels by not trying to stop them. China's lack of regulation on the ingredients to make fentanyl contribute to a large extent to this tragedy as well.

I am still at a loss and feel very unsettled that Donald Trump was elected president. His presidency is marked by retaliation and actions that are ego boosting for him.
