I am Canadian. Totally disagree with the tariff war. The personal animosity and pettyness between Trump and Trudeau should not negatively affect folks on both sides of the border. Hopefully this stuff will stop when Trudeau finally leaves the stage at the end of the month.

Who pays for the retaliatory tariffs? Is it Canadians? Who pays for Trump's tariffs ? Is it Americans? Kinda seems like he's saying if you dont stop hurting your citizens, I'll start hurting my citizens too.

Update 3/2/25 Canada and Mexico caved to Trump's demands and are giving him what he wants, the stop the flow of illegal aliens and drugs into the US on the Mexico/US/Canada borders. Canada and Mexico now joins Columbia, Venezuela, and Panama for countries bending the knee to Trump's demands. The tariffs were to incentivise Canada and Mexico to help stop the flow of fentanyl into the u.s. the tariffs didn't need to happen. if these governments helped curb drug flow by securing their own borders there wouldn't have been tariffs. There is something Canada and Mexico don't get, Trump put tariffs because of the illegal trade that comes across the borders, illegal immigrants, gangs and drugs and because he thinks, right or wrong, that Mexico and Canada don't do enough to stop it. Now Mexico and Canada put tariffs on the US, because the US puts tariffs on them, they don't even try to defend their position or debunk what trump is saying about the illegal goods coming in. I am not really a fan of the tariffs Trump is imposing like lightning with Canada. I do think they should stop the walk thought to Us boarder security. I think they should however be an equal partner in securing their boarder. I don’t believe it is as much of a fentanyl thing but maybe I don’t know enough details in that.

Honestly everyone is to blame. Canada and Mexico have both been riding the American gravy train for decades and never got slapped by any of the former presidents. And now that a president who puts the US first comes along everyone acts like America and our president is in the wrong. Rents and forget about buying a house in BC, AB, Quebec, Ontario. High unemployment, Inflation is high and going up more. Tariffs are an effective negotiation tool Trump used during his first term. Mexico does very little with cartels who run the border. They don't stop the trains and caravans coming through their country or enforce the stay-in-Mexico rule but...they will on Jan 20th, 2025.
