As a Canadian I’m boycotting as many US goods as I can. My many likeminded US friends, don’t give up hope - keep resisting this current US administration! ??

Yay Canada! That’s the right response. I just wish Trudeau could say Trump and his dictator ship administration and not the Americans because half of us here hate that man and completely disagree with his policies.

This US administration will put America into nosedive recession. I don't understand why a government will do this to their country.

This is about more than the fentanyl. This is about Canada not pulling their own weight when it comes to defensive spending, this is about getting them to allow Us manufacturered cars into their markets, this is about convincing Canadian companies to build factories in the US… etc Trumps tariffs are creating hundreds of billions, soon to be trillions of dollars worth of investments into our market. We hold the largest market in the world. We hold the power here, not Canada. And bitching about relations with our allies isn’t going to sway conservative voters come the next election. When we win this “trade war” something tells me CNN will whine about how we won it instead of giving credit to the current administration for doing better by our citizens.

I am Canadian, and I want to speak to the USA, as a concerned citizen who valued the relationship that we once had between our two countries: please realize that we do NOT want to declare this as any form of “attack”, that these are solely defensive measures against your current administration’s lack of respect towards us as a people and as a country. \n\nPlease rest assured that we KNOW that not all of you voted for Trump, that there are those of you who realize what your current president is truly doing and do not support it. This is NOT about fentanyl. This NOT about money and how much each country was giving whom. We had a respectable trade deal that we were following, previously signed by Trump. We have always had a positive relationship together, business-wise and friendship-wise. Please also realize that, once your administration is no longer in control of our narratives in such a destructive manner, or it gets replaced by one that reverses this destructive policy, we will definitely reconsider our former relationship and we will work towards rebuilding it. \n\nIt is unfortunate for both sides here. In Europe, we feel exactly the same. As an American who opposes - STRONGLY opposes - the Trump administration and everything it stands for, I am sorry for what our country's government is doing to the rest of the world but especially to our oldest, closest allies. \n\nThe MAGA faithful will remain faithful even as the prices of virtually everything goes up and up and our economy tanks. They believe what comes out of Trump's mouth no matter what it is, no matter how obvious reality proves him wrong. Remember when this same fellow froze protesters bank accounts and began collecting peoples weapons? Yet, he has the gull to talk about dictators. Trump actually wants to avoid WWIII and I hope what his administration does will bring an end to the war. Though, I do agree he should be more tough on Putin. That being said, I do agree that the crossings from Canada are not nearly as significant as compared to our southern border. It would be nice to see more from Canada in their investments to secure the border and stop crossings, cartel movements, and drug operations. The US has spent more than 409 billion since 2003 on such operations. Regardless, I feel for you Canadians and it sucks that it has come to this and I hope we keep strong relations in the future. Hopefully we can come to a fair deal soon. Mexico and China are the big players that do not do nearly enough to prevent these crimes. In fact, the Mexican government helps the cartels by not trying to stop them. China's lack of regulation on the ingredients to make fentanyl contribute to a large extent to this tragedy as well.

Thank you for this, Mr. Trudeau. As an American. At some point a line had to be drawn, you can't just keep coddling a power-hungry toddler forever. I feel more hopeful that Canada's action will bring positive change to America than that our administration will protect any of us.

All this bluster about fentanyl, yet China is the main exporter of these precursor substances - well, they only have 20%. Awesome! 1/2: Myself and the saner half of the US that read, understood, and voted against Proj 2025 understands why they need to levy retaliatory tariffs especially as a Michigander who's lived less than 4 hours from Canada all her life, who has family in Quebec and Ontario, and is a job-seeking policy professional and international trade nerd who now cannot in good faith seek a job in the federal government. We *all* need to wake up that the US has, plain and simply, become a completely unreliable partner. With allies like these, nobody needs enemies.
