The difference between Canada and Spain is that they don’t have a sovereign currency. With debt dominated in the Euro they couldn’t as easily print their way out of the problem. In case anyone is wondering why so many Indians are trying to flee Canada here it is. Under Trudeau and the liberal government Canada was basically giving a free pass to anyone who wants to come to Canada through colleges and universities, if you get into a Canadian school, you can get a study permit (which also allows you to work for 20h a week). Additionally after the schooling you are given a guaranteed work permit for the same duration as the schooling (if you went to school 2 years you get a 2 year permit, 4 years you get a 4 year permit, ect.) A Canada and immigration agencies (for some reason) basically advertised this to India as a guaranteed way to get permanent residence in Canada. Canadians hated the massive flood of people coming into Canada (about a million a year at its peak, which for a smaller country like canada is equivalent to 10 million people coming into the USA every year). This is really unpopular with voters of course (in part because of the housing, food, and low skill work shortages it created), and the next Canadian election is this year. So the conservative government has vowed to massivly decrease the number of immigrants coming into Canada and the Liberal government knowing that this can be used against them in the next election is decreasing the amount of PR cards they are given (like a Canadian green card) as well as the people they are letting in in total. Now as the (mostly Indian) immigrants work permits expire and they will soon be kicked out of the country or no longer legally be allowed to work, they are fleeing to NYC to try to take advantage of the sanctuary city (something that does not exist in Canada).

The Canadian government needs to fix the root cause of the problem and find a long-term solution. Why does the Canadian immigration department fail in the first place? Why are immigrants allowed to enter Canada without a background check?

Just within the past two weeks FEMA spent over $500 million to provide luxury hotels for illegal immigrants yet a few weeks ago they were still claiming that they didn’t have enough money to help American citizens who suffered catastrophic loss during recent hurricanes and wildfires. The simple fact that Democrats got more upset that Elon Musk bought Twitter than they are, that their own political party in government for the past four years, has literally been holding them at gunpoint and forcing them to pay taxes so that they could steal it or launder it into their own campaigns and pockets is literally disturbing! WTF!!!! If any of those other federal agencies are ran or funded the way U.S. AID were, with the massive corruption, misappropriation, fraud and theft of taxpayer funds, then I hope DODGE goes through an completely audits, every single federal agency in the United States. No wonder the Democrats are freaking out the way they are, if the Republicans got caught this bad with their hand in the taxpayer cookie jar, then you know the Democrats would be screaming a different tune. Lets keep i real. The desire that most immigrants have is homeostasis which is the familiar. All humans do this. Individually indians are usually smart and decent people. But in groups ( and this doesnt just include indians) you get this group thinking that is prejudice against anyone who isnt one of their own. The very nature of hoarding resources for ones family, same culture, etc are the same oppressive situations many of these people left their countries to seek better opportunities. But once given those opportunities and a chance to decide for themselves, a lot of these people use their liberties to create exclusion and hostility toward out groups. The indians do this in a very overt in your face way, the chinese are more polite about it but both have this way of looking out for their own and not being concerned with anyone else. As far as im conerned you should all be split up and dispersered to live in different provinces and cites. I think the Canadian government has made it far too easy for anyone to immigrate. As an Indian living in India, I can attest that many of us look for the easiest way out and often lack a strong moral compass. Additionally, most of us struggle with adapting to new environments, possibly due to an archaic education system that emphasizes rote learning over conceptual understanding. Many Indians also face challenges with proficiency in the English language.\n\nUnfortunately, Canada’s relatively lenient immigration policies have allowed a significant number of unskilled individuals from India to settle there. Many of these individuals have been reluctant to embrace Canadian culture. Corruption may have played a role as well, with some local Canadian colleges and universities admitting students who lacked merit. Given the extreme levels of corruption in India, this is not surprising.\n\nThe root issue lies in the Canadian government’s lack of strictness and vigilance when formulating immigration rules and policies. Many Indians, frustrated with the current government and financial hardships, seek to leave the country in hopes of a better life in the West. While educated individuals follow proper processes, the uneducated often resort to questionable means. In Canada’s case, this negligence on the part of both governments has had unfortunate consequences.\n\nI hope stricter policies and more accountability lead to better outcomes in the future.

The problem is not international students themselves; the problem lies with students who cheat the system to become international students.\n\nSecondly, no international students are promised permanent residency (PR). There is a pathway to PR, and the government should ensure it is followed. However, if a student's study or work permit expires, they must leave as they declared when applying for the permit. Canada understands that individuals from developing nations may not want to return home, and that is understandable. But the proper process must be followed.\n\nI agree that the Canadian government has made mistakes. However, international students also took advantage of the system, which I can understand. The government should never have allowed international students to obtain work permits so easily. They should have been required to complete their studies, secure a job offer, and only then apply for a work permit. This would be the point at which their PR process could begin.\n\nWhat the government did instead was detrimental to Canadians. By allowing international students to get work permits immediately, bring their spouses, and provide work permits to them as well, they created challenges. Students should focus on studying first, graduating, and then finding a job—just as it used to be.\n\nThe government should create regulations requiring all publicly funded colleges and universities to cap the fees charged to international students. These institutions should only be allowed to charge a maximum of 15% to 25% above the fees for local students. Charging exorbitant amounts was essentially a form of robbery, exploiting international students with the false hope of permanent residency (PR), which is never guaranteed.

Tell the truth… our government pays them support and housing upon arrival and employers are given wage subsidy for hiring immigrants!! No temporary visa allowed period! Canada has a weird system where the border is guarded by CBSA but patrolling it done by RCMP, that's like saying CBP guards the border but the federal police (FBI) patrols them (in real life it's ICE that does this). So why couldn't/wouldn't the government allow CBSA to patrol the borders? the 1.3 billion budget that was promised is mostly going to RCMP for choppers/drones and more personel to patrol the areas.. no wonder CBSA is pissed

It is incumbent upon the Canadian government to screen out those applicants who received fake admission letters upon arrival or even before departing for Canada - at the Indian airport of departure. Clearly the priority of the Canadian government was to allow one and all in so as to benefit from the exorbitantly high tuition fees charged to international students - so scrutiny of offer letters took a back seat. The recent crack down on international students (after such a long time) especially in the wake of the impending elections makes Canadians highly skeptical. This is nothing but damage control by the Trudeau government now that they are faced with the prospect of a decimation at the general elections. They needed a scapegoat - what better than to blame international students....the outsider - sound familiar?

I'm an immigrant looking to get my PR, I have qualifications from one of the top universities in the world, experience as an international consultant and most important I do respect the Canadian culture and follow the rules. However, even for me it is uncertain what is going to happen? and/or if the government will make more changes and kick us out hahaha. I do believe that immigration has poured a lot of money into Canadian's pockets and most of them are not considering that, some of that money is going to go to another country who is willing to manage immigration with a better approach and provide a more certain perspective to new immigrants. The government allowed many bad actors (locals and foreigners) to take advantage of the system and those who are going to pay the bill are new immigrants due to political elections, and that is just sad. We will see who are they going to blame for mismanagement of public resources and the possible crash of several industries, that are currently relaying on foreign money, once there are no new immigrants to blame. I agree with most of the new rules regarding immigration, but I strongly disagree with the political approach of how the government is blaming immigrants for their lack of proper management. Indians are the largest student community in Canada. Ten years ago, fewer international students were moving to Canada to study. Nowadays, we often see a significant number of international students, which, in my opinion, is not bad. However, last year, the Canadian authorities began investigating the high number of students arriving from India in an uncontrolled manner. It was discovered that many Indian students had submitted falsified documents, such as English test results and GPA scores, to gain admission. As a result, the Canadian government started deporting these students on a massive scale. This situation is affecting India’s reputation, and it is expected that the Canadian government will soon significantly reduce the number of Indian students allowed to enter the country

Browsing through the net for job opportunities, confined to a small room at high costs, finally if and when they are been called for one or two interviews at most despite forwarding more than 100 resumes, at the interviews they will be offered lower than the minimum wage for parttime workers. What a scam, first they say that English fluency is essential has introduced different Examination to assess the English fluency standard.. it is a big scam...while Canada has favoured immigrants from certain parts of the globe. In that case why did the Federal Governments of Canada created a delusion to migrants from around the globe stating that there is an acute labour shortage in certain high demanding job categories, encouraging all such applicants to apply through the Skilled labour Program introduced by the Federal Government of Canada,. as if there are shiploads of opportunities available just for geabs.\nSuch individuals are driven to state of utter despair or forced to get back to their home countries whereas here the federal Government of Canada is granting Asylum to all sorts of unskilled , uneducated and sometimes no literacy nor basic communication skills in English at all at the expense of the taxes and high tuition fees acquired from the student population as well as PR Holders who has incurred massive expenditure through the federal Government's detailed and tough assessment procedures just to gain entry under the stipulated visa categories. Low skill and low wage might have been ok when costs were low - low food prices, low energy prices, low housing and rental costs, etc. Now that everything is incredibly expensive, Canada is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Either wages will go up (which have been fairly stagnant for the last 30-40 years) so that it goes above and beyond inflation, OR you will not be able to bring in low skill, low wage labor. Simply put, when rents are $3000 a month in Toronto, minimum wage of $15/hr is $2500/mth (before taxes). Add another $1000/mth for food, and $500/mth for other expeditures - and you can see that just to survive - a person in Toronto needs a minimum of $4500/mth to not be on the streets. And this is IFF they are not married and have kids which can easily drive expenses to $6000/mth\n\nSo... for someone to just live normally, they need a bare minimum of $30/hr for 2000hr/year - this is a salary of $60K before taxes!\n\nBut the median income in Canada is 35K to 40K (it's on your tax return which determines if you get extra help from the government).\n\nSo... with these prices - you will never get low wage workers here... period. You can't expect immigrants to work as slaves and then pull your country out of the mess you created by spending money on useless programs like a drunken sailor.\n\nCut costs, cut taxes, cut inflation (stop printing money), cut useless programs (ala DOGE in the US), allow housing to crash, diversify your economy, invest in start ups and entrepreneurs, increase salaries, scrap the carbon tax, etc. Notice - none of these have anything to do with immigration.

Thank you for summarizing these key changes! Many problems are actually the Canadian immigration system not learning from the mistakes of the US system and now it’s suffering the same consequences. If Canada cuts down on those selected immigrations but still takes in refugees, it’s only going to make anti-immigrant sentiment worse. Selected immigrants are allowed into Canada to help alleviate Canadian issues…or at least people who come through Express Entry are less likely to become a burden. On the other hand, refugees, given their unfortunate circumstances, really need to rely on a lot of social services and resources to help them resettle. The US has eliminated pretty much all non-humanitarian immigration that’s why immigrants are so demonized there. Americans only feel the drags of refugees and asylum seekers (even though ethically we need to protect them) and there is no selected immigration to balance that out. Yet this round of Canadian policy change is heading exactly that direction.\n\nIt used to be international students in Canada are not paying a lot more tuition than Canadian students. But Canadian universities saw how much money universities in the US are making so they asked the federal government to change the policy to enable them to charge international students several times the regular tuition (whereas in countries like France, international students actually pay less than citizens). So now Canadian universities rely too much on international students to operate and it becomes an exploitative relationship even before students step foot on the campus. The new PGWP eligibility is awful because students can make contributions in every field. It might (and that's a big if) address the pressing problems, but it won't help Canada grow.\n\nI thought the new language requirement was interesting. Some Canadians who immigrated decades ago when the bar was really low still speak English poorly and now they are saying people can’t come to Canada because their language skills are not sufficient. Another point about language is if you apply through Express Entry now, even if you scored the highest language score, given how competitive the pool is, you still won’t get selected. So it’s a given that you need to be fluent in one of the languages at least to get an invitation. Express Entry also selects only the top people, I saw the head of The Institute for Canadian Citizenship in interviews talking about those top-tier people only expect the best treatment/lifestyle when they come to Canada. That's why many of them leave after seeing these Canadian problems play out. But I believe a good Canadian life is not about living in a high rise in Vancouver and Toronto, driving an expensive car, or buying luxury items...it's about the communities, nature and middle-class comfort. So the system is giving PRs to the wrong kind of people (just like mismatched people when hiring that don't align with company values).\n\nThis brings me to the last frustrating issue. There were so many people who attended “fake” universities and bought “fake” jobs to earn points to get an Express Entry invitation. And it's clear that the government wasn't proactively catching these abuses. They are taking up spots from those who try to earn the points fair and square. If I understand correctly, Canada doesn’t send these people away if they are found out (since some of them were scammed). So they still take up immigration quotas.\n\nI have wanted to move to Canada for a long time. I have visited Canada many times, hiking trails through the coastline and fjords, climbing mountains and glaciers. I lived in Montreal for two months to improve my French and I was told by my homestay family that I was the first student they had who didn’t complain about the cold (I wish the winter never ends so I can skate or xc ski in the parks year-round). I have probably seen more Canada than many Canadians and I love every bit of it. But the opportunity for me to even get a shot to move there is pretty much nonexistent now. In the case of PQ it is not the Federal Government that 'allows' that. PQ are under the Napoleonic system of government dating back to early France, there are many large differences between PQ laws and the rest of Canada. France also does not allow religious displays in the work place.

The poor students who should not have been allowed in Canada in the first place. My heart goes out to them. They are the biggest losers in this situation. The schools taking advantage of the system and these students should be closed down and held accountable! The government in India should also do something about the recruitment agencies promising easy PR pathways. What they are doing is illegal!

Universities are registered not-for-profits in Canada, so the for-profit argument can’t track. \nCanada needs a RICO law so we can more easily seize their assets and expel them, and hold universities to the fire for this crap, and the government officials getting kickbacks. The GOC is the largest human trafficking pimps, and the universities are bottom bi***es. And don’t think we don’t know that the 30% cap DOESN’T apply to companies like Navitas who recruit for the universities, are housed in the universities, but are separate, private companies.

From my perspective: we should not be allowed to run for government positions or policies, education should not have separate schools for different cultures. What i mean for government if yoy make things easy to take power we can destroy this country easily or place our own power we have other countries that did the same in history that are now no longer same. If your moving to Canada you should adopt to be part of its rules, laws, cultures. I moved here and happy to be part of this country and to be a citizen. I will share food, music or art but dont involve others

WHAT WORKERS? Canada doesn't need millions of Tim Hortons and Skip the Dishes workers, we need WELDERS, CONSTRUCTION, and SKILLED HEALTHCARE WORKERS! The amount of unskilled workers and students needs to be further slashed, if not completely barred for YEARS to deal with what this government has done.\n\nUnder 2% of the immigrants under Trudeau's government had ANY skilled related to building ANYTHING. Why were they allowed? Canada has no need for unskilled workers, particularly unskilled, unmarried, uneducated young men!

As FRENCH, I think it is more an issue with policies set by both governments!!! You know you bring students IN and why don’t you build houses and encourage construction???? In France, many students (mainly Africa, and French departments like Guadeloupe, Tahiti or Martinique) come to study there (for free and we are proud of it!!!) BUT - unlike Canada - we do NOT have the same issues as Canada (our healthcare is NOT under pressure and our housing prices haven’t really increased that much as compared to Canada for example!!!) to me, the students are NOT to blame!!! It is the fault of the deciders (at different level) who have FAILED to set the right policies!!!! The schools are also to blame as some (not all) are so obsessed with making profits out of the higher international fees, which by way, subsidize Canadian students!!! So in Canada (not in France or Germany), the money that allows schools to function come from international students who BRING LOTS OF MONEY for the Canadian economy!!!! in France, it is different as the universities are FREE and are fully subsidized by the French government… but yes;) you have to speak French fluently to attend them!!! \nSo dear Canadians, do not blame foreign students thanks to whom your universities thrive and remain existant!!! Without them (namely the Indians too), the Canadian universities will struggle to find money and funding! Remember, the system in France is TOTALLY different!!!!\nAlso, reading from comments, I notice that many here have NEVER alert their own country!!! Stop blaming foreigners if YOU, YOURSELF DID NOT even get the BALLS to dare studying in places different than yours (like Germany, France, Sweden, Japan…)!!!! Actually she's isn't wrong if indians start taking over jobs and properties or businesses in canada where will the natives go? It's their country so they have the right to speak up if your presence or actions is hurting them atleast she didn't abuse you she was honest about the problem she and her family might be facing because of indians and indian government should bs ashamed that every year massive amounts of indians abandon their citizenship and settle in other countries spreading like a virus engulfing opportunities that the natives deserved... So if u get hate for that... You can either be shameless and bare it or have some shame and return to your country give the natives some releif.... Put yourself in their place for a second and think...even in india Mumbai used to be peacefull and clean all those beautiful beaches... For licensed doctors I would think that the 4 years would be a snap if you already know the material but beside that , if they went back because they could work in their field in there home country then why did they come here in the first place. Obviously it wasn't violence or fear for their lives.\n If they come here and enjoy the first years but then the reality kicks in when the benefits stop that they may have to work for minimum wage and they now know that a person making minimum wage in Canada is makes you homeless, can't afford a car or the gas, insurance and can only buy food , that they realize that they were better off where they were. It;s time our government informed these people of the harsh reality of how our governments have allowed our once great country to become place where it;s citizens suffer under these financially inadequate conditions that are only made worse by immigration numbers that far exceed our ability to house them. Maybe have them try to support themselves on the income they would get here while they are still in their country, or if it made a condition that our government must prove that they can sustain themselves with minimum wage before they can immigrate then immigration would be denied because heaven help them if minimum wage isn't enough because welfare/odsp is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Thanks to the Government allowing foreigners to buy up Canadian property starting in the 80s, then they kicked out existing tenants, jacked up the rent and rented to other foreigners. That started homegrown landlords to do the same thing. The cost of living increased every year as the minimum wage stayed frozen for several years. Our own government destroyed everything good that Canada was, pre 1985.

Isn't it the fault of Canadian government to allow and give citizenship to such people . I am talking about khalistani community and ones with rural minds . Did they checked their backgrounds ??
