The reason for this is Trump wants industry back in the US, and as long as people buy things from outside of the US cheaper, that's not going to happen. Thus the tariffs. I see this as nothing less than Trump wanting to do to Canada a slightly more palatable version of what Putin is doing to Ukraine. Trump has openly said he wants Canada to become the 51st state, even though this is a huge ask as Canada has a population larger than any US state (California is close in population size), Canada has a land mass nearly the size of the US and, including water mass, Canada has a larger overall area than the US. Trump also wants Iceland to be owned by America. He has become power crazy during a war because this is his only chance to stoke his ego to undreamable levels. Trump wants to be America's Putin.

I think they’ve come up with a plan to divide the world between three empires - an American empire, a Russian empire, and a Chinese empire. Trump gave it away when he accused Zelenskyy of potentially starting WW3 if he doesn’t give Russia what it wants. \n\nWe’ve already had several threats from Putin that he’d use nuclear weapons to protect Russia if other countries ally with Ukraine and send their own military to assist Ukrainians.
