As a Frenchman, I can’t find the first bit of explanation, nor logic, in Trump’s strategy - if we can even call it strategy. The US will be the biggest loser in this situation, but Trump and his mini-Trump (Vance) will eventually find a way to explain that the US misery is the product of malign states. With Trump at the top, the US is going to lose its mind once and for all. I can’t believe that I once seriously thought about becoming an American citizen… the American dream is now COMPLETELY dead.

I effectively spent a chunk of my childhood in America with relatives. I treasured these memories, but now all the feelings of wonder and happiness when thinking of my visits to America have faded. This is not anti-American, it is just fighting back from an unnecessary trade war. It does however break my heart because many Canadians have family on the U.S. side. I know it would also break my father’s heart as he grew up in New England and had a lifetime affection for the U.S. I despise politics and have not been a proud Canadian for a few years but I have to admit that this speech is getting me going again. Canada needs to get its act together and rebuild its military, not to fend off the U.S. but to hold its own should other countries decide we are ripe for the picking. As a Canadian citizen I have always admired the US up until now, I sincerely wanted to move to the US to build homes and start up a company. But now am re-evaluating my decision because if this how the US treats their friends and allies, I really feel sad for their enemies.
