No the cost of living was not always this high! Since the massive spike in a certain population moving here steadily since expo 86 & then another massive spike in 2010 (& so on), rent has quadrupled (possibly more) & not kept up with min wage & born Canadians have had enough. Which might have something to do with why they’re not as friendly, anymore. We can’t afford to buy our own home in the place we are born, when also MANY homes sit empty that owned by mainly corrupt brokers working with overseas Asian’s. It’s a sad truth with stats & articles to back this all up. Many people have simply had enough & I don’t blame anyone for feeling that way.

Your LGBTQ&A voted for this government and their friends and families were right behind them at the poles. Your overly sensitive people voted for this. I had such a trouble getting an apartment because of AirBnB's and other short term rentals. Having people only live in town for 6 weeks of the year before leaving town again for the rest of it. Bonavista has been pretty aggressive with trying to deal with it; but its certainly not enough.\n\nIt gets worse. The lumber mill has was sending as much as it could down south to the US during the pandemic so what build materials one could get was extremely overpriced and low quality making renovations take forever do to the lack of materials.\n\nWhen I was living in Labrador there was a hydro project and speculation caused rent to go from 500 to 2000 CND. The lack of rent control was crazy. I had no chance of ever moving back to my hometown and I'm stuck with part time work where I am.

500,000 new arrivals per year, in a saturated housing market is BOUND to cause demand and rarity... ANYONE that studied economics for even 30 minutes understands the link between offer, demand, and price... Anyways, the REAL issue is WHY THE SHORTAGE of affordable housing in this country? \nIs it creepy local elected officials that LOVE rising property evaluations and the taxes they bring? Is it speculative pricks, just buying anything to wash away dirty money? Is it the shortage of units that Airbnb and other short-term rental monstrosities created? Or is it, maybe ALL of those? No matter what it is, blaming the FEDERAL, when most of those conditions are due to LOCAL or PROVINCIAL control, is pretty IGNORANT!!!

Citizens that were born here are thinking about leaving because of what Trudeau has turned this country into. With his blatant disregard for human and Charter rights, multiple scandals, ethics violations, conflicts of interest, corruption, the elimination of informed consent, propaganda and biased journalism, ridiculous woke ideology, crooked legal system, doubling of the housing market, massive increases in taxes and the cost of everything, homelessness and food bank usage at record highs, the educational system turned into crap, the list goes on and on.

I don't blame anyone for leaving Canada; the issue is that corporations are bringing in more immigrants without building more homes, and the quality of life is deteriorating beyond repair.\n\nI wouldn't mind newcomers if the housing was stable and there were more jobs available, but that isn't the case. \n\nOur issues stem from large corporations sucking the blood of the poor and looking for cheap labor. If you can afford it, leave Canada.

I live in Canada as a Kenyan and I have been here for sometime .I work as a HR/Payroll Specialist also certified in the field. The problem is not Canada , Canada is a very good county which I love and I am gland God gave me the Opportunity to Come and settle here with my family.. The problem with some people coming here is lacking of knowledge how Canada works .It’s system is very far from how things work in Dubai or Gulf countries. A lot people are thinking than you can just come and get any job even without proper papers or you can earn a lot of money and then build wealth quickly. Which is A BIG FAT LIE. The tax in Canada keeps you humble. That is how Canada funds it's high end life many admire and want to be part of. The more you work in Canada the more tax you pay and many don't know this, and it is one of the main reasons why a lot of people start to regrets, because they realize there effort of working hard is not paying as they hoped. Another thing in Canada is next to impossible to get jobs or rent a place without proper paper work, like work permit, It is not like USA where you can use someone else papers to work. the The main available jobs , easy to get , don’t pay much. And also the cost of living is very high in some provinces like Ontario and BC. They hardly recognize credentials from outside unless you came through a job offer. Also because a lot of things in Canada are paid by the government through taxes, like health care, education. Unless you are tax paper with (and I repeat) Paper work, you cant access the benefit, including thee free food available for the needy. \nMany people forget Canada is looking for people to work for them. Not to grow rich and leave. The system is meant to keep you working. Unless you understand how a system of a country works, one will continue to blame it. Let people get well informed and well educated first , before they jump in the river. And it’s not Canada a lone , but any country in the world. Also a lot of these media post about Canada are misleading. And there is also another trap called debt, a lot of people once they getting working, rush to but things they cant afford and it becomes a stress instead of a blessings.\nIf you want to live well and enjoy Canada . One of the top thing to do is, go back to school once you enter in it, get a good education and you will get a good job. Also give yourself time to adjust. REMEMBER you are starting from square one. You are not continuing where you left in Kenya or in the country you get from. Also, the general social climate is not as friendly as those in USA for example. Not many people are willing to help for free. The most jobs advertised in Canada are the lower end paying jobs, which a lot of people pay a lot of money to come for, just to realize the job they left behind was far much better than this, but no one told them that, just because it said $18 hrs and you converted it to your country and looked a lot, doesnt mean it carries the same wait once you earn in from here. The living expense are very different. The reality is, it is not where you are , but whom you are and determination knows no barrier. Anyone who will trust God for help, work hard/smart and be patience in life, they will make. It might take longer than they expect, but they will get their eventually.

It's 100000000000× times easier to make real good money in advance economies like Canada or USA than it is in (third world) developing or undeveloped economies...and problems like inflation, shrinkflation, rising housing price etc. are a thousand times worse in third world countries..\nSo anyone from advance economies or developed countries who would blame immigrants for their money problems is just a lazy, pampered, privileged a**hole who lacks the understanding of the real world and a c*nt..full stop..

I'm listening to hear how Canada is not a desirable place to live, bc I have thought it would be a better alternative to the USA. But it still sounds better than life in the USA, if even just slightly. ?\nSo far, I hear 30% taxes on income (which is same in the USA).\nYou have free healthcare, however you have to wait in emergency room for 8 hours.....we DON'T have free healthcare....and guess what? $450+ later, we have still waited 4-10 hours in the ER. \nHere in the USA, our cost of living is insanely high compared to a single and even a double income. Our lowest rent is $1,200 to live in low income surroundings. A rent around $1,800/month will bring you to nicer surroundings in an apartment, but still surrounding areas have crime. \nFood costs are so high, Gas is so high. We haven't bought new clothes for ourselves in YEARS, only for our kids. \nDaycare is $485-500 month per child, even before and after school care. \nHealth insurance averages $145/per person per month, not to mention car insurance which is required to drive. \nSegregation has improved here but is ever being integrated back into our society as racism is kept very alive, even as they constantly teach it in the schools. They say it's to teach history but I believe it is just reinforcing racist ways and thinking patterns. \nI don't blame anyone for wanting to return to the comfort of their own people, language and living and country. \nYou may have us with the cold/hot weather in Canada! \nI didn't know about the Canadian passport being so opportunistic for travelling. That's cool ? \nAs far as desired profession, there are many doctors and teachers that come here to the USA from other countries and are now working as a clerk in the dollar stores here in the US. \nAnd forget work life balance here too. For those that said they don't plan to move back to Nigeria, I don't blame them. Nigeria today is worse than when they left it, so there's really nothing that'd make anyone wanna come back. I believe the responses would change if Nigeria becomes a much saner society.

The cost of living and stuff in Canada yes it's high but we are in a recession ? the housing market has changed jn the past 10 years... It's hard for anyone not just immigrants.. Don’t come to Vancouver Canada to study unless your family is rich. I run a rental business here and LOTs of international students either live in basements or struggle hard to come up with rents. I don’t blame them cuz this city is hell EXPENSIVE. Also even if you get a degree from UBC you are gonna get a job as a bank teller that pays like $16/hr if lucky. People suffer from seasonal depression for about 4-5 months/year. Better just stay in your country if it is not in the war zone and has relatively good health care system. If you can succeed in Canada you can do it in your home country. Not trying to discourage anyone but just wanna help people make rational decisions?

I disagree. I'm a 34-year-old, born and raised in Canada. Most jobs go to immigrants hands down! They are obsessed with diversity. With my name alone, I get looked past because it's actually a name people can pronounce. Plus, with the past 2 years with the Canadian gov going communist, I don't blame anyone for wanting to get out.
