People here are complaining about the need to communicate in German even when they are high skilled professionals who speak good or excellent English (?). Just wonder how it is the other way round: is it possible for an innovator/highly professional worker to find a well paid job in the USA or Canada just with weak or mediocre language skill in English but with excellent/good skills in some other languages? Are other languages appreciated in English speaking countries when it comes to salary or position?\nSomehow I doubt it.\nYet there are highly paid special workers in the industry (mining, building) that actually do not have so good language skills but can their job.

so they need more people but they are not building more houses. What does that have to do with immigrants ?

The country needs to spend 92.5 billion dollars to solve the housing crisis in Toronto. That would build 250,000 homes. Spread the cost over 5 years, build around Barrie, Georgina, Beaverton, and Uxbridge. Spend another 90 billion on railways to those areas. Hire 50/50 local to immigrant worker.

there is not enough housing because government is not build houses.
2024-08-13 0
We can't keep taking in immigrants when there's no housing available. The immigrants aren't moving to sparsely populated regions they all move to major centres like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Housing builds haven't kept pace. I'm sure the landlords are dancing in the streets with the inflated prices they can now charge.

Building materials are too expensive to build in America, too

Because they know that their system is based on capitalism and a history of wealthy elites exploiting the masses and importing new labor from elsewhere typically is a race to the bottom. As opposed to caring for and building the population you already have, which they don't care about, hence the declining birthrates and so forth.
2024-08-13 0
The new buildings that regular working citizens can’t afford, will be used to housing illegals and the government will pay landlords a premium fee.

As to why, all those immigrants don't start building new houses and apartments in some suburban extra land upon arrival??? I've always thought that immigrants must get a job in the construction industry 1st on arrival, for a while, unless they are highly specialized workforce - it's no-brainer, this way new houses can be ready already?? This gotta be a precondition of green card - don't u think?

Building public housing is a must.\nA temporary stop to immigration is also a must.\nStop blaming each other.\nThe blame is in the numbers.\nNumber of square feet of roof over head per person.\nIt is Canada. It is cold. We must have roofs over heads.\nWe must have more public housing.\nWe must pause immigration.\nPierre Polievre's Government must do both.

Trudeau is killing Canada. Import migrants, create native housing demand (drives prices up), build more housing for the migrants. Then, by building more, housing they could reduce prices by expanding inventory. \n\nBut, no. Trudeau and his NGO buddies simply import more immigrants to keep pressure on housing to keep prices up.

I’m a skilled worker from Germany and went to the US in order to build wealth, pay low taxes, earn double. I don’t understand why people from abroad seek Germany where they earn little and have to learn German instead of going to the US.

Germany dont have any facilities for Skilled People, after working for 3.5 years in a good position, Finally I'm moving out next month. \nGerman system is build for unskilled asylum seekers (both legal and illegal ones)

Arena Gardens is not a low income area, the building behind you is a low income rental but just across the street there's a new development that is gentrifying the area where a single bedroom cost roughly four thousand dollars.\nIt is however a very unsafe area. with all the safe injection clinics and shelters in the area, the garden district has become increasingly unsafe.

WHEN THE MEN BUILDING YOUR HOUSE, CANT AFFORD THE HOUSE THEMSELVES. THERE IS A CLEAR PROBLEM. TOO MUCH BUREAUCRACY FOR ABSOLUTELY ZERO RETURN. WE NEED AN ELECTION NOW.

How is it not about population growth? Especially bringing in 1 million immigrants per year? Of course Canadian government Was not building a country or creating infrastructure or logistics for these type of numbers back in the 80s or 90s let alone the 70s!\n\nThey would have never thought that this many immigrants would be able to enter our country in a single year, bringing in immigrants is supposed to help our economy like bringing in doctors yet our medical system is so far behind and it takes five years on a waiting list to get a family doctor!\n\nLet’s not even talk about the educational system where we are servicing foreign students and not taking care of our own citizens, not only education is too expensive but to live above poverty, while going to school has kept our citizens from education!

Here's a radical idea, prioritize bringing in more construction workers to build the housing we're so desperately lacking.

Can't building cut off power/hydro to that particular apartment? Would be one way to get her out.

Borders exist for a reason. It’s not fair to citizens of ANY country to dump hoards of unknown, unvetted people onto us and our cities AND expect us to support, educate, provide healthcare and pay for them. People from poor countries think westerners and Europeans are all rich. In our societies we work extremely hard and sacrifice our entire lives to have a good future and healthcare if we need it. We pay a lot of tax to have safe cities and towns. When you dump thousands and millions of people into our countries we all sacrifice even more and cannot access housing, healthcare or social programs because they are overwhelmed helping illegals. That is not fair to citizens of any nation. The real difference would be teaching poorer war torn countries how to build fair societies. How to build an economy. How to develop a democracy. How to root out government corruption. How to be tolerant of other religions. How to take care of your own citizens!!

I live downtown, newish condo building; my postman told me building is only for 30% occupied. Rest foreign investors holding out, making it look like there is no housing. Mainstream media contributes to these untruths.
2024-08-13 0
the answer is simple: make it easier to build housing\n\nimplementation is tough because people hallucinate all sorts of problems with this approach
2024-08-13 0
The west needs to build mass housing
2024-08-13 0
so. its bad governmental policy that caused the living crisis\nno public housing building

Maybe homes can build themselves like the budget balancing itself.........

Hahaha this is the Guardian left leaning newspaper doing documentary on immigration, guess what the conclusion would be - more third world immigration?!? Most of the people I found that promote immigration are not the ones that really do anything to provide more infrastructure, they are the one that you can really do with out, some academics in the social sciences, career politicians, mostly pen-pushers. Have a look in UK who works in building sites and then look at people who are getting free housing, you need not look further to understand the unfairness and why people feel bitter. Importing people who produce many children is not the answer, unless you want future voting base.

As someone who was born and raised in the Middle East and identifies as an atheist, I have a deep understanding of the motivations and mindsets of people from the region who choose to migrate to Europe. In the 1970s and 1980s, many who fled to Europe were doing so for genuine political reasons. They were escaping oppressive regimes, whether Islamic or dictatorial, often because their beliefs as non-Muslims, socialists, or leftists put them in danger.\n\nHowever, since the 2000s, the motivations for migration have shifted. Today, many people from the region come to Europe not primarily in search of safety or to embrace a European way of life, but rather to take advantage of the social benefits that European countries offer. Unfortunately, many of these individuals support the same Islamic regimes or ideologies that people fled from in the past.\n\nIntegration into European society is often challenging, particularly when there is little incentive to learn the local language or culture. For some, the focus is on increasing family size to maximize the financial benefits provided by the state. This explains why it's common to see families with six to nine children in these communities. The goal for many is not to seek safety or assimilate into European society, but to live comfortably on the benefits available in countries like Germany and Sweden.\n\nTo address this issue, I believe Europe needs to reconsider its approach to handling migration. One potential solution could be to build safe cities in North Africa, where people can find refuge and work without necessarily relocating to Europe. This would provide a secure environment and opportunities for those in need, without overburdening European countries. The focus should be on creating conditions where people migrate for genuine safety and the chance to contribute to society, rather than primarily for the financial benefits.\n\nIf people are allowed to choose where they want to live, they will naturally demand the best possible conditions and benefits. However, if authorities take the lead in deciding where migrants should be relocated, it would likely reduce the risks associated with illegal immigration. By guiding people to safe and sustainable locations rather than letting them dictate their destination, we could decrease the incentives for dangerous and unauthorized migration routes. This approach would help manage resources more effectively and ensure that migration serves both the needs of those seeking refuge and the capacity of host countries.

He said back to the country thay come frome, but when I found the Palestine on world map, I could not find this country any more ? This country gradually disappear, my god, why? \nWithout the Palestinian people living and developing for thousands of years, that land would not be as prosperous as it is. The Israelis left that land too long ago, very few people stayed to fight and build that land. Now they are carrying out genocide there, why?\nAnd mainstream western media sources, what are they doing now?

Hey man. I think that the 2 leaders of opposing countries, religions, “teams” whatever, they should meet, promising everyone is safe, promising to each other n keeping their promise, and they should have dinner or lunch, maybe breakfast. But they should face to face, share a meal and talk. I promise u that things would change for the better. We all should do this. There would be way less war, eventually none. Then, we build, because if u give a man a fish, he has one meal, but if u teach a man to fish, he feeds his family for life. Time to do this

Landlords should band together and not rent their properties. See how fast the country crumbles with people out of the streets. Landlords provide housing for those who can’t afford to buy a home to at least have a place to live. The government has failed the people with not building enough homes, and now they rub salt on the wound with mass immigration.
2024-08-12 0
The leftists answer to over crowding is for the tax payers to pay to build homes for 40 year old immigrants who will work for less and take jobs. Naw brah.
2024-08-12 0
It not that there is not enough housing, it’s that the rents are soooo high that people can’t afford it!! I can rent no problem in a very nice condo if I pay $3000 up!! This is a HUGE problem!!! The government says it’s building more housing but they still are wayyyy too expensive!!
2024-08-12 0
Baldy says it's not immigration, it's the lack of infrastructure. You're putting the cart before the horse. Immigration remains the problem. Yes, we should build to support the numbers, but until we do we can't keep bringing millions of people in. They are frustrated and Canadians are frustrated. Who wins here?
2024-08-12 0
If ONLY we had thought to build cities other than Toronto and Vancouver!! We were so foolish!
2024-08-12 0
The owners are criminals. All they do is put in new carpet or paint the walls and then rent goes up ?? these condos and buildings need help. I hope all tenants get away with it dead serious. Making one bedrooms into two ????? is ridiculous!
2024-08-12 0
Build affordable housing and it won’t be an issue. It is NOT affordable to live in Canada without a minimum income of $100,000.00 per year, per earning person in the home.
2024-08-12 0
They need to lower building permits and inspection time
2024-08-12 0
Canada's leadership is lazy mentally , too conservative and close minded. What is the big deal about building more houses and creating more jobs.? If the USA can do it their narrow-minded leadership can do it too.
2024-08-12 0
The issue is corporate greed. Why is it too expensive to build houses? Because houses are a basic human need depending on the free market to determine when it is financially beneficial to build houses for a basic human need, the question is when did we ever think this would end well?
2024-08-12 0
1) New build houses with lower quality\n2) Higher construction prices for those low quality new builds due to lingering effects of COVID lock-downs\n3) Current housing inventory also increasing dramatically in cost due to high demand/low supply \n4) Wages not increasing to match the increased costs of living on all fronts\n5) People living longer and taking more from social services than ever\n6) Governments importing massive amounts of legal/illegal immigrants which adds further strain on social services\n\nAnyone else want to add anything?

They're streaming into the US from Canada to NYC by the (literally busloads) because NYC has a free housing policy for illegal immigrants. They are being housed while veterans are left on the streets - literally no room at the inn. Everybody is crying about illegal immigration at the SOUTHERN border, but don't complain about the illegal immigration at the NORTHER border. Didn't Trump build his 'big beautiful wall'? Did we not spend millions of taxpayer dollars on it? I know Mexico didn't pay a penny on it. I also know if illegal immigration is higher under Biden than Trump, his big beautiful wall is a big beautiful FAILURE.

Entire canada was immigrant once ....they destroyed indegenious tribe now they building ethical moral
2024-08-12 0
Build the wall! BUILD THE WALL
2024-08-12 0
Both locals and Immigrants are getting the short end of the stick... The policy makers just laugh as they pit one against the other. The government is just not building not enough housing for locals.
2024-08-12 0
Its unfair for both new immigrants coming in and the existing residents....build more housing then open the immigration.
2024-08-12 0
Also why that something that costed 1mil to build now costs 10million? And not talking about 30 yrs ago. We talk 5 yrs ago.
2024-08-12 0
Yeah let’s just build loads of homes over the beautiful country side.
2024-08-12 0
Build more houses. Like don't people understand that
2024-08-12 0
You destroyed their countries and looted their wealthiest first give back their wealth and build their countries
2024-08-12 0
Canada has so much space to house even 20 million more people. I mean per square inch Ontario is well bigger than the entire country of Nigeria, which boasts 300 million people...without an accommodation issue. What's wrong isn't an immigration issue because Canada advertised itself as appealing and immigration friendly, what's wrong is a housing and infrastructure issue. Canada quite simply needs to get to building
