Wish there were as many people pissed off at the housing crises as they are at this one person who’s not paying her rent. Maybe if landlords provided affordable housing there would be less people not paying their rent.

This is a big part of the reason why we have a housing crisis. Nobody wants to invest their money in creating rental units if they can’t collect rent, so that reduces the supply of rental units. Less supply equals higher prices. Landlords also have to charge more to account for potential lost rent in this system. So in the end the stolen free rent is simply paid for by other renters who get passed on the higher prices

Rising in UK and some other EU countries as well. I know this is not going to end well and it’s just common sense. The resource is limited. More people coming in meaning less “cake” for everybody.

If you own an apartment or rental be super careful about who you rent to. Check their assets, credit bureau, references, employment. Better to rent for less to get grade A tenants instead.

As a landlord - I had this happen to me .\n$35k in unpaid rent which I never got back after the tenant moved out .\nI learnt that the tenant had done this to 2 other landlords prior .\nIt’s a shame - my house was priced fairly and was a brand new home . There was no reason to pay other than greed .\nI have since sold the home and moved on : it’s one less home for people who can’t afford to buy at the moment to rent .\nThis stupid system needs to be overhauled .

I landed in Edmonton 2003 as a immigrant and it was a such nice country back then, rental price is very reasonable. Since Justin became premier, everything got worse, high inflation and less job makes Canada no more a affordable country for Canadians. So it is time to change

We also face a similar challenge in other countries that housing is a crisis and governments keep bringing in all sorts of immigrants, from refugees to highly skilled people (like myself). I have switched 5 cities and the story either gets more worse or less worse. Half a year searching for a decent apartment? Some search for years! It's a full time job. The government gets back to my request after many months! Foreigners offices are packed with applications and citizenship is taking years long now. Getting a doctor appointment (psychological issues) within a year is hard, unless you pay from pocket or are in grave danger. We are being squeezed in here and they started new loose immigration policies to be more attractive to foreigners. Address the quality of life at the same time!

Landlord Tenant board is a joke and should be called Tenant Board. Since PC govt came in power two housing minister have made situation worse for small landlords. There are less adjudicators than 6 years ago and applications take upto a year before learning takes place. Even then, any excuse by tenants is tolerated but landlord suffer. I will not invest any more in Ontario. It is a very very bad place and PC govt does not care. I do not know what housing minister does all day. Sad.

People shouldn’t be allowed to scam and not pay rents. But I also don’t believe people should be allowed to own residential properties as investments. Theres no shortage of other things to invest your money in. If people couldn’t own residential properties for renting purposes these scammers wouldn’t be able to do this. They would have to buy a home or nothing. Also homes would be less expensive with no investors in the market.

Weak minded people blame the less fortunate for their own problems

Immigration will not STOP ANYTIME SOON. Canada should have foreseen that the country would need more people 30-40 years ago and provided the resources to encourage Canadians to birth more children. Salaries are laughable, childcare is overwhelmingly expensive, food is expensive, rent is high. How do you expect Canadians to birth 4 -5 children when they are earning significantly less than their American counterparts. Immigrants will continue to troop into Canada where we like it or not.

The ONLY way to stop mass immigration is to make these countries whole, so the people won't want/need to migrate. This means forgiving debt, facilitating business, help developing democracies. & It still costs less than these wars, etc.

Its not scapegoating immi-grants. We simply just cant build as fast as immigration is going on in the west. Even if we could build as fast, do we really want to become overpopulated countries with less nature?

When my son and his friends come home from university and can't find a summer job, we've got a problem. Especially when those potential jobs are being taken by non-Canadian students who've been here sometimes less than year.

Nevermind the scapegoating, only 2 things can get us out of this, less people coming in and more housing. So the governement feel the pressure to build more and the people feel the pressure to leave.

Similar issues here in the US, only ours are pouring in over the southern border with Mexico. Hardly any speak English nor have any real interest to, as well as no interest in assimilation. They live in their own little communities surround by their own kind, 90% being illegal as hell. We have immigrant problems of the less legal type here. They just come on over. But when we ship them to marthas vineyard or nyc or dc, where these wealthy leftists reaide, then oh no suddenly theres a problem ? they dont want them in their own cities their own back yards. Because of the aging population demographics declining birth rates governments in every country are in short supply of young people. Less and less young people and more and more aging older people. Migration is important but only highly qualified people should get migration… and less number of migrants…. It’s Canada government fault

I'm not a Canadian. The rational question to ask is--how much of the problems noted are new and real; how much is due to immigration; how much is fabricated by self-seeking politicians; how much is due to the wealthy becoming wealthier; and what should we (all nations, not just Canada) do about world-wide inequity. I'm not saying that it is the wealthier nations' responsibility to provide for the less wealthy and the impoverished, but what should we do? Anything? Nor am I saying, we should have less so that others can have a little more. But should we ignore those who have less--far less? And, how much of the problem, real or not, is due to the reasons given in this video? In this video, I do not see any serious statistics or economic analysis. A theme in this video is that growth is essential. But there's a limit to that too. Maybe these are signs that the world of growth across the globe is ultimately doomed. Are we capable of understanding the world with sufficient precision? Or is all our economics ultimately a sham?

Problem is not immigration but how we are settling new immigrants. In the 1970s Canada accepted 200k Vietnamese refugees after Vietnam War. They were settled into small towns across Canada. As a Canadian I can say I have no issue with immigrants or anyone trying to seek a better life as I am the son of immigrants. My issue is with our government taking in way more than our economy and infrastructure can handle at a time where it's already under strain. \n\nAdd to the fact they're almost all from the same race, it makes certain areas lose all diversity and a ripe ground for racist sentiments. It's not uncommon where I can be in a grocery store or restaurant and every single customer and cashier is an Indian. At the very least let's diversify where we are taking them all in from. \n\nThe cynical side of me makes me think they are desired by corporations because these people are seen as an easy resource to exploit since they're willing to put up with more and receive less.

Why don't people just spread out and live in less expensive communities?

As a Canadian, we want to leave! This isn’t the same country our parents and grandparents grew up in. Bringing in 1 million ppl who haven’t contributed to our socialist system yet giving them full benefits is destroying us! If just my husband didn’t get taxed we could afford for me to stay home but instead my mat leave has ended and we can’t find child care! We are in serious talks about selling the house and moving to Thailand or some other country where our dollar is actually worth something. \nTaking suggestions on English speaking countries to move to!\n\nAnd what other country could u move to and tell them to change? Cuz that’s what happening here. Ppl aren’t assimilating to our Canadian way. We are expected to accept (bend over and take it) and include in the name of “inclusion”. Makes me sick my white straight son will have LESS opportunity than a gay ethnic person… talk about discrimination!!! The ONLY discrimination is against white straight men!! It’s insanity!

I dont know anyone who thinks immigration is bad.However when the numbers are so high that it is unsustainable and citizens feel like they are being overwhelmed and thier lives are of less quality people will rebel .The citizens end up paying with taxes so they have every right to challenge these destructive ideologies that ultimately bring pain and misery to it's own citizens.

He's right about the tap water. My mom lives in Jackson, Mississippi and when I was living down there we were getting boil advisories every other day. We'd go to Whole Foods and fill up cause the assumption was the bougie people went there to do the same and so it'd be less likely that we'd get bad batches.\nWhen I got back to Ontario I remember thinking to myself damn I can finally drink out the tap again.

Canada is managing to build about 140k homes a year right now. So assuming the average home has 2 bedrooms, it should be a bit less than 280k immigrants a year let in. If the government wants to bring in more, they must ramp up building to match.

The only hope for this country is Poilievre. I say this as someone who is shall we say less than enamored of him. But he's the only guy who is going to slow this flood down, and he's said he will do just that. Trudeau, meanwhile, still can't even be convinced to lower immigration, still can't be convinced there is one single thing wrong with the huge numbers he's bringing in, still just blames the provinces for not building housing fast enough.

2nd largest country landmass...less then 35 million citizens. You could import a billion people and still have more space then you'll ever need

On the subject of high cost housing: it is a simpje case of supply & demand. When any non-perishable resource is scarce, the price will be elevated. When there are less buyers the prices will fall... it is not rocket science.

I never agreed to become a minority in my city or community and be surrounded by people who don't share any values as myself and what this country stood for and to be quite frank could care less about being Canadian and never will be

I have lived in this beautiful country of fantastic people for 25 years, working my way up to having my own business. But after spending a big chunk of my life here, it is time to say goodbye to the country of my dreams and live somewhere where there is less chaos and traffic. I do not regret my decision.

Banks benefit by having more deposits from newcomers. Corporations benefit cause people from over seas will Work for less. Government benefits cause every newcomer needs to pay 1000s of dollars for different fees like drivers licence and health cards you name it.
