I hope this man lives a nice life, but he should've immigrate to Canada with a legal immigration visa or live in a rural place in El Salvador

for people who are commenting why didn't he just do this or that with that money.... I'm from El Salvador and you have no idea how many immigrants live in the US and Canada without being able to get their legal status fixed even with money in their pockets. I have saved a bit and I want to leave, but countries are just not that welcoming.

I don't think Canada ever lied. Unlike the USA Canada does not play around. We welcome legal immigrants and bona fide refugees. Unfortunately there is a lot of greyness in what it means to be a bona fide refugee. Perhaps too many people think it means one thing. \n.\nMy heart goes out to all these foreigners wanting to make a life here in Canada - after all I am one of them. The ONLY difference between the guy in the video and me is that I was lucky to have an opportunity to get a degree'd education and was accepted into Canada.

To me, it looks like Vice is really trying to pull the emotional card to get people to sympathize with this man because he really is in a rough situation. But, he is in a situation of his own making. It sounds like he had not done any prior research about Canada before deciding to claim refugess status. Yes, Trudeau was not giving the full truth when he made those public announcements to the media. Yes, people (educated or not) can be swayed by words of leaders they respect. But, to think you can just enter another country and claim refugee status without understanding what that actually entails is very naive. Canada has very transparent laws that are easily accessable in a multitude of different languages. The provinces also have legal assistance for those who can not afford lawyers. So, the fact that this man was able to spent $15,000 when he is being portrayed as a low income earner makes me question his income, or if he was even aware that he could apply for legal assistance. And since he has a lawyer who has been working his case, I would like to assume that the lawyer would have said something about assistance.\n\nI really want to be sympathetic for this man and his family, because security uncertainty makes life extra hard. But, as I have had to live in more than one country due to the Canadian immigration system refusing my husband due to a very old DUI (which has set our life on a completely different plan than anticipated), I have a very hard time being sympathetic when I feel as though they did not reach out to educated themselves on the laws of another country. I am a Canadian who currently can't live in Canada with my husband of 3 years and I still don't hate my country. I respect the hell out of it (this is not to get into our historic treatment of BIPOC, which deserves it's own seperate time and is a bloody stain on our land's history.)

Okay. A lot of people here have no clue how the immigration system works both in the US and in Canada. “He should just have come here legally”. Well, most of the time a legal path to emigrating to the US/Canada just does not exist, and its getting more and more impossible to be granted asylum. In the US you can’t just apply for a work visa, you can’t just apply for a green card. You got to be eligible to apply for it. For a work visa you need a job offer first, you need proof of income and most of the time the employer will have to prove they couldn’t find an American to take the position. To get a green card you either have to get married to an American, invest at least $500,000 or try applying for asylum (which is almost impossible to get nowadays). ALSO to apply for asylum you need to be either inside the US or at a US port of entry. Try to be less “patriotic” and more empathetic. People flee their countries because of war, violence, cartels, gangs, terrorism, etc. They are desperate and want to protect their families and have a better life. If you were in their shoes and staying in your home country put your family in great harm you would have done the same thing. People need to stop judging, stop being selfish and start leading with empathy.

I don't know why people are shocked that illegal immigration is frowned upon. The days of looking for warm bodies to settle a frontier are over. There's a backlog of LEGAL immigration and any time a country needs more people they can generally turn on the tap. Illegal immigration has no benefits for the host nation over legal immigration.

Canada loves immigrants, legal immigrants.

As a Canadian we are more open to immigtation . There are still laws. I myself am an immigrant. This piece shows one story out of thousands yearly. Without knowing specific details it is tough to judge. I know and have met quite a few refugees that have gained legal status within the past few years. We are not perfect by any means but the government does a good job, in my opinion. There must still be a vetting process. I hope this family has found stability

Canada loves legal immigrants

Most of these Ninja dressed folks are the extremist end of Muslims.\n\n\nThe average Muslim immigrant (Atleast from Indian Subcontinent) works hard, goes through all the loops of legal immigration and even works to put in effort to adjusting to Canadian Culture. From my (Personal Perspective) all legal immigrants should make 100% effort to learning the countries culture they immigrate to its the least we can give in return as immigrants and also work towards contributing towards Canada's economy instead of leeching it. There are certain crazy extremes but the average Muslim works towards his / her bread & butter to live another day.

So it takes me 2 years lots of blood sweat a masters degree a accountancy degree a interview with the immigration officer thousand if miles away than legally entering canada and than these people!!!!!!

Usa and Canada aren´t the best countries of the world but a lot inmigrant people think in the economic progress, but Brazil is the best country in the world or another, the USA officers cancel my Visa legal, I tried to visit Denver for 15 days, I tried to get in by Fort Lauderdale, and immigration officers, stop me, I was treated like a criminal, I am a systems engineer, a university professor and I was in a cell one night, the first time this happened to me and there is no justification when my passport and visa were fine.

I am a legal immigrant. my parents paid a lot of money and we also had done health tests to move to Canada. i'm a permanent resident and i pay taxes, why is it for free for them? not fair, sorry

Well, you can be sure they are wearing protective gear because of your last reporting on them. I'm just so shocked how people can just flow unhindered into Canada like this and in-fact are greeted and given rides, all the while at actual legal border crossings they have trained immigration officials who should be dealing with them. They would of course be turned away. It's so depressing. But thankfully Rebel is not giving up and putting pressure on them. ??

Wtf so there's people like me who work their butts off to go through the legal immigration system and do everything by the book to get Permanent Residence and eventually citizenship, meanwhile these people are getting through without issue, but not even wanting it? Ffs...

Why not just do things legally? The way they make it sound, it sounds like an illegal immigration.

What's the concern - that they're here? We need legal immigrants that are willing to fit in, change their way of life, work hard and follow our laws like all other previous immigrants but we're not seeing that at all......

I feel some sympathy for her. She is now 28 the last order would have been sent to her mother in 2006 which her mother ignored (at the time she was maybe 14) she would not have had a clue about what happened as a minor, since she was only 6 when she arrived. She should have dealt with this when she was 18 but 10 years have passed...she seems to be contributing and well spoken it's a tough call. She could go back to France and reapply as a landed immigrant - perhaps that would save face for the government and for her to get in legally. No idea why her mother thought a refugee application was a good idea from France of all places...

They are definitely NOT victims, and deportation is only fair to other honest and legal immigrants. Make them pass a language exam of at least junior high school level, like that they'll know they can't just pay their way into the life in a free and democratic country.

Have the immigrants heard of legal immigration and asking for citizenship directly to a reputable consultant or official immigration offices?

Cleverly this videos talks about "how much" and not "how many" refugees get Social Assistance, then uses Vietnamese legal immigrants (the hardest working people in Canada) as an example of how quickly they become self-supporting. The truth about refugees aftermath is that, the large majority of refugees in Canada coming originally from third world countries, live on Social Assistance for several years, some for life, knowing that the Canadian government will provide for them anything they need (Ironically there are very few statistics on this matter and no statistics at all since 2015, when the current government was elected).

Since legal immigration requires lawyers and lawyers are expensive Probably lots of people wanting citizenship lose lots of money some lawyers don't even care about your case just getting paid.

Poor, poor NON-refugee. Should have followed US immigration law. Could have been living and working legally in America by now and with his wasted legal fees probably in his pocket. I really feel for Jose, but the reality is that he should have learned English and tried to get legal status to eventually get Naturalized. He also fell victim to those immigration lawyers that steal from good, hardworking people like Jose. If he didn’t want to go back to El Salvador, he should at least request asylum in Mexico until he can come legally to the U.S. like everyone else.

Canada took in 40,000 walk across the border illegal migrants last year, this year the word is out we are expecting at least 50,000, don't know where there going to stay our hotels are full, don't know where they are going to work the job market is full, Quebec does not want any more and thats not counting the legal immigrants coming into the country. Legal immigrants in the US spend that much money and wait many years to get citizenship only to see illegals jump the border and get special attention and help. Boo hoo for him.

What no one or hardly anyone is talking about is that Canadian citizens have the right of free entry into the US where they can stay legally for six months OR just disappear into the landscape. Apply legally. Do it the correct way. Wait in line. Don't jump over the wall of legal immigration.

Wang deserves double time in jail and his clients' immigration demands being revoked. The lady who pleaded no guilty she's not a 6 years old. I am naturalized Canadian. Have had never troubles with law . Have been paying tax since I immigrated to this beautiful country. Why this culprit is not being deported? He doesn't deserve to be a Canadian. When he got the citizenship he swore to obey the laws of this great country. Such behavior should not be tolerated. Tax payers are being punished for lack of legal system against such criminals. I am sure all these people he helped were aware that they were lying.

Donald trump is putting restrictions even on separating families even through legal immigration like my family is separated like we kids got our visa but my moms case was sended back to USCIS and we are still waiting for their notice and we have been separated since a whole year
