I don't think of Montreal as primarily French speaking at all. To be able to get a decent job in Montreal, you are pretty much required to speak English. I switched to English a lot whenever I was in Montreal. My husband, who does not speak any French, was able to receive service wherever we went in English. The rest of Quebec is a different story, though.

Yes Canada is a peaceful nation. You did not mention tent cities in Victoria and Vancouver, B.C. In Canada we only speak English. Quebec should be their own country. It is so funny, I was working in Canada, BC for 3 years as highly paid employee, paying taxes > 200k/year and after I decided to apply to PR it took me more than a year to get PR and plenty of strange documents were requested to be provided until I hired immigration lawyer who drafted rather tough and harsh mail to IRCC on my behalf that they are violating my immigration law. Guess what? PR was approved in 2 days. On the flip side I know plenty of immigrants from Eastern Europe, China who are bringing their families with fake documents and receiving PR super easy, once settled they get income outside Canada in their country of origin (leasing an apartment for example) and of course not declaring it here, they specifically keep income at the level so they can get welfare/various reliefs from Canada and they bragging out loud how smart they are taking advantage of the system. That's not fair - there are a lot of skilled people around the world who can bring real value to Canada and behave in a good faith. If you go to Richmond, no one can speak English there, what kind of cultural integration is it? Lefts really like these guys, easy votes, eh?

I'm white, I've been followed in stores. I'm not stealing so I don't care. I rented a room to a woman from Iraq, she was nice but didn't speak english. She often left bits of tp where she sat, instead of womens pads I think. She moved 3 months later, she had stuffed cig butts under the plunger in her sink instead of the toilet. Immigrants had convinced her we overcharged and she moved in with them to her regret, but I wouldn't want her back. She was a needy pain. I don't really understand one of experiences during my visit in Canada, I am a HongKonger and one time when I was visiting Toronto, some people with different ethnic background made a comment on my English, they said my English was good. But the fact that there are tons of Chinese/Hong Kong looking people living Toronto who speak perfect English or better than me. I really don't get this, those people who made comment are Indian, Russian, even Canadian born Chinese, they didn't even know I was just a visitor. I don't know much about the standard/definition of racism in Canada, is this incidence considered some kind of racism/stereotype? I am humbly asking for your perspectives on this.

Stop expecting the world to conform to your will. I was in Madrid Spain and this Canadian couple didn't even bother learning Spanish when they spoke to us and ask for help. They expect us to conform to them when they are on vacation in a non english speaking country you can't have it both ways that double standard right there.

I’m sorry, but I have very little sympathy for them, they don’t go through the immigration process everybody else has to, and then they in most cases lie about being refugees, when most of them are economic migrants, and add to that this guy seems to been in North America for a few years and can’t even speak English, doesn’t seem to help his case.

I went into a convenience store and the owners (Chinese) followed me around the store as I look for snacks and went to the back for drinks.. I was been shadowed! I told them that why she- because one followed me- was shadowing me? She gave me a smile.. sometimes I feel they pretend that dont understand a word of English, but actions speak louder than words. It was obvious, they thought i was gonna steal something... Now, tell me.. Does that make them racists too? I think so! I didnt buy anything.. but I gave them an earful for that. I have seen how they also keep an eye on Black people. Later, these same people say that THEY are the ones facing racism.

This is more typical CBC yellow journalism. As an English speaking white person, I could easily provide the CBC with hidden camera evidence of white people being discriminated and bullied by indigenous and french Canadian people because of my race and language, but of course, the CBC wouldn't be interested. I have no problem with skin color or race. I do have a problem when I go to the doctor's office and cannot understand half of what the doctor is saying to me. I do have a problem when I call for technical service and cannot understand half of what the technician is saying. This is frustrating. If people with another first language want to work for American companies where communication is a big part of the job, I only wish they would speak more fluently. I had this very situation this morning. Called for service, could not understand through heavy accent. He was getting very frustrated with me. If I went to another country it would be up to me to learn to speak that language. I dealt with this in the hospital...and in this setting it can be critical. I spoke to the Chief of Residency because of a potentially harmful situation and was told the residents all meet their requirements for English. well, whoopdido...that did not help either of us when a patient was going south.

The problem with Canada is that it never developed a culture outside of “not being American” and the result is that their government has been allowed to grow to an enormous size and basically strangle all of the talent out of the country. Canada, despite the fact that it’s an English speaking country on the North American continent, is virtually nothing like America is any sense of the term, and actually has more in common with Scandinavia than it does with the country that borders it’s south.
