measuring with aggregate data is convenient, but rarely tells the whole picture. its nonsense to compare overall productivity with the US because the US far outclasses virtually every nation on earth. Economies of scale, location, market development, and industries involved also heavily skew in favour of the US through no fault of the Canadians.

What we are seeing global inflation. I saw it in the news that most countries are all competing for parts, products, food etc. Even nations that managed their rates better are seeing major issues. The glut of money was an issue sure, but the surging demand from nation that re-opened from covid lockdowns played a larger role. Add to this pandemic-related staffing issues, Russia-Ukraine Conflict and the intentional global oil supply problems and its a nightmare.

Housing speculation is one of the greatest misallocations of capital ever in Canada. People are being rewarded as their home prices increase while literally contributing nothing to the economy. What product was made? What innovation or increase in quality of life was there? Landlords and employers are exploiting immigrants for rent and cheap labor. The government is happy to go along with record immigration as long as tax revenue is increasing.

As long as we Canadians (not me for the record) keep voting Liberal, we’ll never reach our full potential as a country.\nThe Liberals are masters of disincentivizing hard work, innovation, and productivity.

Its oilsands not tarsands. Oil is a natural substance while tar is a petrochemical product!

As a Canadian myself living in this country for over 30 years... the problem here is that Canada have a diversed industry but because the country itself is so small (population wise) that none of these industries reached economies of scale. While Canada has regions rich with natural resources, all they do is extracted it, sell it to U.S. and then buy the producted that was produced by these raw materials back at a higher cost. The political structure of Canada doesn't help either: Each region essencially specialized in a few industries (Alberta Oil, Ontario Finance, the Alantic provice's fisheries and oil refineries) and there's equalization payment... meaning if one province is doing well... they don't get to reinvest it back into its infrastructure but rather have to spread some of the excess revenue to other failing provinces... this doesn't incentized productivity but rather leads to a race to the bottom where provinces would want to spend their way to get some of that equalization payment money. Also the provinces themselves doesn't have a unifying economic agenda... Alberta's oil could be best served to be refined out east and then shipped but British Columbia doesn't want pipelines and oil shipping facilities on their coastline... and Quebec isn't interested in having a pipeline either so there's nowhere by the oil but to go down to the states. Finally the province of Quebec( which is french speaking and have their own culture and language) isn't interested in the overall prosperity of Canada at all but rather to extract as much special privilages, rights, and money from the Federal government... and even to declare independance from the Rest of Canada.

Nations competing for power and status has been what the history of the world has been mostly about. There are those that are obsessed with competition and are willing to die for power and status. This is the strongest motivation for the innovation, production and exchange of goods and services and is also why the best competitors cannot trust each other and feel the need to deceive, fool, cheat, spy and lie to each other and causes them to build weapons that can basically kill most of the life on this planet and damage most of the environment that can sustain life. \n \nMany nations are comfortable with their lower levels of power and status performance and do not think allocating more resources to move up the ladder will be of much benefit. \n \nPresently, if the economy is not growing, it is considered a failure. This type of thinking cannot go on uninterrupted on a finite planet with finite resources. There needs to be flexibility in the system for the economy to expand and contract and for a contraction to be considered normal and not a problem or a failure. The contraction needs to be just as prosperous and productive as the expansion. For this type of thinking to work, there needs to be some new economic theories and models developed along with some new types of money and financial systems based on economic sustainability not on economic growth and money inflation. \n \nI am sure there will be some Nobel prizes awarded to the academics, economists, corporate CEO's and business leaders and of course politicians and government officials that can figure out how to make a sustainable economy work and how not to devalue the nation’s money in the process.\n \nThe way this can begin and improve peace and fairness at the same time is when our business and government leaders along with our brightest and smartest among us including the most wealthy among us can learn to be much more truthful, honest and trustworthy and can start to understand that the wellbeing of others benefits everyone and is the bases for morality.

when productivity is weak last reading m/m shows -0.5% and recent leading indicators shows negative growth you’re in for an ass whooping!

Canada’s biggest problem is it’s socialistic policies of the Liberal governments. Don’t confuse things: social programs like education and healthcare are not an exclusive marker of socialism. The balance of government interference in the economy IS. Nobody in their right mind would start a business in Canada today. \n\nSecondly, running a business means buy and resell, manufacture and sell leaving a profit. But the business of running Canada is losing money. The formula of running the country doesn’t work. We go deeper into debt every year, now to the point where it’s impossible to grow out of debt. As we allow massive immigration to counteract an aging, non-productive population, because of that negative formula, we just keep going deeper and deeper into debt. But it seems that most Canadians want that because we keep voting in the ‘robbers’. It’s time for Canadians to understand that soon a death tax will come in where all your asset value in taxes will go to the government. But that’s coming and is the only way for the government to pay down its debt.

10:03 Drop in Canadian auto production shows how effective Trump was when he renegotiated NAFTA and pretty much killed the Auto Pact. \nWith that decline in Auto production comes a decline in all the industry that supports the auto sector, steel, parts, services, etc.\nCanada cannot compete on labor, taxes or financing. But it can compete on energy and inputs. If Canada built out cheap hydro and offered very attractive power rates to industry, as well as built out resource refining (iron ore, oil/plastics/chemicals, rare earth, other metals, etc) industry would locate in Canada just to have the cheap input advantage.

Meh, vanilla analysis that circles around important points but fails to make inightful critiques:\n\nA. “Canadian productivity lags . . . the economy is less productive and innovate than America’s . . . less competitive . . . less capital . . .”, and then finally “banks are prudent, well regulated, and untroubled by excessive competition”!!! Yep, just put it together: Canadian banks (and government policies) have comfortably sedated the economy and populace.\n\nB. 00:09:00 “The fact is, Canada’s dependence on natural resources for economic growth has discouraged investment in other sectors”. Total rubbish! Canada discourages investment generally. Success in natural resources - despite government policy and cultural biases AGAINST them - does not hinder economic development elsewhere. The banks, governments, and degenerate academics in Canada do such a good job screwing everything over that the ambitious leave, thus, as the video observed, the “brain drain” south. You know what’s ONLY thing that cannot leave Canada for the USA? Natural resources!! That’s why natural resource companies endure in Canada, because they have no choice.

After watching this video if you think that what is going on in Canada is not crazy, then take note of the fact that Trudeau government is also making it even harder for gas and oil companies, mineral extraction and even farmers to basically do their job. While Norway, Arab countries and even US are ramping oil and gas production, in Canada Trudeau is concerned more about increasing carbon tax and the rainbow flags. Honestly I'm very disappointed in this country, it's becoming worse and worse here. Prices are through the roof, housing is insanely expensive, even car prices are higher than in USA. Many people have to maintain 2 or even 3 jobs just to survive. And if you are a recent graduate or an immigrant professional, good luck finding a good job. You probably will end up in a minimum wage job that barely allows you to rent a room in someone's basement, pay for your most expensive in the world cell phone plan, expensive cars.... and wait 6 months to go see a medical specialist. If you're thinking of immigrating to Canada, better consider Europe, USA or developed countries in Asia. I was lucky because I bought property back in 2016. Now it appreciated so much that I'll probably sell and move to a different country. Hard times are ahead for Canadians, Canada is gonna become Cuba #2 very soon

100% with you. It’s the liberal government and especially CBC and other media that are pushing a far left ideology. It’s destroying everything that make the country work.\nThe taxing rate is destroying the economy. You are left with half your income, out of that you get taxed 15% on expense and if you buy expert (plumber, carpenter) they too loose half of it. This is destroying the productive free economy. It’s at a point it might collapse.\n\nIf we want to save Canada we have to vote conservative and return to the value that work, freedom, low taxes, small government.

Mind you, that no country from Chile to Mexico wants this particular group. A crime wave follows wherever they go.\nConsider some of the countries in their path already had high crime and they made it worse! That, by itself, is very scary.\nTheir age group indicates they grew up when their country was chaos and anarchy. They are the end product of that reality.

You can thank the people who voted for the left , the democrats and Biden for this. For the all time high drugs flowing into the country , crime at a staggering all time high , wasting billions of hard earned tax dollars and leaving it to our enemy’s in the form of military equipment , stopping us from being self sufficient in oil production which everyone needs to live for heat, food, transportation, and economic gain and so much more. trying to take away the rights of its citizens and turn what was once a great country into a horrible place to live-they can’t win the next election constitutionally so they do it illegally. Everything is being taken away and so much damage has been done because of it.

Not everyone in the world can live here.. it is just not possible. There is not enough room for all the people to live in this country- in addition to the people, what about housing, hospitals for sick people, schools for the children , buildings for the employers to manufacture products, roads for all the vehicles and where is all the food going to be grown... No one mentions that

Do things legally. \nDon't have an entitled mindsets.\nAnd be productive if you want to come here.\nThe middle class is the one providing a free ride for immigrants...AND most of us can't even barely take care of our own families. This crap is out of hand.

Venezuela used to be one of the wealthiest countries not long ago at all. Now they are being run as a socialist country. With hardly any food or normal every day products or medicine. This is what the democrats want US to become.

A relative of mine lives in Austrailia. She really loves instant coffee called Maxim, which is quite popular in Korea. When she visited Korea a few years ago, she grabbed a bunch because she had missed it and to bring it to some of her Korean friends. However, the coffee was taken from her because well... some weird law about dairy products and Maxim contains a substance called prim, which is like powdered milk. They seized everything and she was furious.

We got to take care of our actual American citizens first. If they want open borders then let american take control of these country's. We could make South America the production capitol of the world. They get free access to usa and we get stuff made there for cheap instead of supporting fucking china. Could boost there economy and build there nations up so future generations don't have to come to America. But no they just want to come be a strain on our systems without any long term plan for the future. Wow. Smh the whole American continent could be basically self sufficient. Never gona happen though. To much division.

For anyone especially the HinduShaitans who’s reading this just Relax…\nIt’s not about religion or culture it’s about the Ohio state laws. I understand how much Indian government minions who are reading this comment with only half a brain want to disarm Sikhs ? but that’s not even the point here. \n\nThis cop is an idiot for not even knowing his own state laws. And the Indian media who keeps promoting this type of news to brainwash HinduShaitan and this channel who doesn’t delete but promoting this video even after knowing that this cop made a mistake and the school already apologized just to gain support from other uneducated people like them… why doesn’t this channel show the real stories like because the Indian government couldn’t provide jobs for the youths or 89% of the world scammers are from india or the Hindus in India who’s scamming the elderly Americans everyday out of their life retirements? But instead they show false videos just to gain more stupid people ? \n\nWhy I called this cop idiot is because Open carry of deadly or not weapons is legal under Ohio law. Just like open carrying a pistol is legal, open carry of any type of knife is legal as well. The entire knife doesn’t even have to be visible in order for it to be considered “unconcealed.” The school principal already apologized to this young man and the Sikh community about this stupid mistake. So Let’s put a end to your hopes and dreams of disarming Sikhs, the world is automatically changing and becoming more Sikh like mindset everyday, just as they banned most all tobacco products in America including cigarettes in all public places. Gurus told Sikhs long ago to always stay clear of tobacco for health reasons. The world is just now catching up.

If we won't move more manufacturing or sources for products from China back here.. then we should move them to Mexico and all the countries south of them. Then they'll at least have an improved quality of life that will slow this problem down.

How is this not considered a hostile invasion and why isn't the border protected like other counties where trying to sneak in is considered a threat to security of its citizens. Theres a right way, but much like the entitled generation that has started its way into government, they have always had money and most likely have never been the victim of a violent home invasion. All these undocumented people are essentially criminals, theres no way to identify them so they can run rampant and create chaos causing serious situations for citizens all while getting everything they want for free and leaving a huge trail of unsolvable homicides in their wake. Millions of leaches that have never paid a dime into this countries assistance programs are bleeding us dry while working under the table and selling their food assistance money while creating Millions of victims in the process. Our president is letting this happen while working with China which is who sells the South American countries the illegal chemicals for drug production and these people are coming here and literally tearing the country in half. They steal guns rob and kill people with no real punishment, yet a good hardworking citizen shoots one whos burglarizing and the community wants that citizens blood when hes done everything legally and protected his family and gets crucified for being a productive law abiding citizen versus a parasite that is only here to take everything they can

Excessive population growth and density is always the cause of poverty. Justin has skyrocketed immigration. Productive immigrants canadians move on to the US leaving Canada with chronic doctor and housing shortages. The remaining immigrants like the rest of the unproductive majority reduce productivity and standard of living. English was founded by people who thought the American Revolution was too risky. Hence the lack of telecom competition and restrictive loan practices of the big 5. As individualists we are almost as judgemental as Americans towards undisciplined clans- Russians, blacks, amer-indians,... Quebec is as different as two European peoples can be.

Do yourself a favour and stay in the US. Trust me, you will regret picking Canada. Our shelter costs here are absurd and we have a government that flirts with communism. People easily give up their freedoms for safety. Broken health care system. Chaotic place with a lack of cultural identity, selfish people, divided country. Full of woke virtue signallers. Our young generations hate the old. Western canada and quebec don't even like the rest of Canada. Divided place with crime rates quickly rising, country is quickly turning into a dumpster fire. It's a good place though if you are a boomer because you just keep feeding off the younger generation and the immigration keeps pushing up home equity that you can use as an ATM. They are running towards a different kind of poverty here. Some of the places they are running from (mexico), economically have potentially brighter futures than here. The kids might be kicking the parents for this when they get older and see the places where they came from, have better standards of living than the place they fled too. India included, they have the potential to become an economic power house. We hardly produce anything here, and our government chokes off our natural resource exports. We have too big of government, too many regulations, too many taxes. Who would do business in Canada? Name a Canadian company other than shopify. Blackberry... Oh wait its dead. Canada is becoming one big California with crappy weather. I wish Alberta joined the US tbh.\n\nSummed up. Canada is a big ponzi scheme that relies on the greater fool theory. At some point it will get harder to attract fools to want to come here. We are lazy and non-productive, our GDP relies on a housing bubble. We also have this smug arrogance over here like we are somehow better than Americans.

Hello I have a question if anyone could give me suggestion what would be best for me... \n\nI'm 23 years old currently finishing my honors degree in Journalism. In my life I never had any true goals. I kinda lived in a fantasy world of my own for some time(No drugs or anything). I have currently formed a great passion for making music. Although I still don't play multiple instruments or know my way around mixing software. I have a decent vocal and I can make melodies. With my music knowledge I believe that I can make good songs if someone could make music part for me. \n\nI want to immigrate to 1st world country because I feel like my talents are wasted here. I was also a great soccer player but couldn't do anything with that because there's no proper platform. \n \nSo I want to do Master's degree in a English speaking country like USA/Canada/Australia. I want to continue study and look for opportunities in music production and settle there. But I'm scared and nervous. Because I don't have any backup there. I don't want to do odd jobs and make day to day living. I want to succeed in life. \nI wish I had a mentor who can guide me through it. I have stability in my country but I want to risk it for the biscuit you know? Am I making a mistake! God help me decide ?

Funny how the Media takes what is real And twists the story to the people .......This guy was NOT an Immigrant This is an Illegal Alien that lied and smuggled him And others into the USA and was there for many years And left the USA by Smuggling once again himself and others into a 2nd country So he has lied Im sure has false documents And one of the reasons he was denied How was he able to work with an expired permit? Taxes? so there is a few more broken laws And if he hurts himself ..The tax payer flips the bill ........And while you might think I'm racist His country has not less that 15 other countries around his ...Any yet they flock to the USA And Canada ...It has nothing to do with how nice And proud it would be to be an American Or Canadian They want our way of life They want to be Equal Untill They are required to lose something like a turban riding a motorcycle instead of a hulmult Then gets into a crash And yup You pay the brain injury bills ...There is a counsel trying to slowly get Punjab words on city street names And products in an Ontario city that has more Indian residents than any other culture While complaining to the city of overcrowded parks And the garbage in them..Overcrowded and polluted Now where have i heard that before....

For me its wild coming from the EU that the US has like no controls on their food like...things you say are a cheese product wouldnt be allowed where I come from. Same with transport like.. wtf ? How are you supposed to travel without car ? Not to talk about the school shootings like damn in my country a lot US citizens come who are afraid to send their kids to school. Wtf US u were my hero in the 90s and 2000s....

I went to New York 20 years ago, I found the food was terrible and the air smelled like sewage. Central Park was the only place I enjoyed there, likely because the trees were able to filter the crappy smell from the air. Montreal, despite the episodic smog events, smell like heaven next to that. Also the milk in the US tastes absolute garbage unless you pay the piper for organic, non growth hormone raised cow milk. Most farmers in the US shoot their livestock with all sorts of hormones to increase production but they just end up spoiling the taste, it's quite hard to describe but it's painfully obvious when you experience it.

I can relate to the cheese comment at 6:00, the equivalent of the cheese epidemic, in the UK, is bacon. There will be a perfectly reasonable product … and there will be a company in the UK that will put bacon on it and sell it. Can’t escape the bacon. I have bacon related anxiety… I fear the bacon and hope I managed to out run it, before it consumes me

As a native New Yorker from (NYC), whose lived in the north part of the state near the border between Canada and the US. Who would visits Ottawa and Montreal frequently, I enjoyed every time I went up north. The “ruff women” are in NYC. They’re a product of the environment ruff city ruff people, everyone is always in a rush and with an attitude. The water in both Montreal and Ottawa is amazing!!! Both tap and from the bottle. I felt safer walking at night in Montreal and Ottawa then in NYC which is hilarious.

Cons to Canada:\n\nGovernmental system that lacks fundamental checks/balances\n\nInsanely bland food (ik this is gonna trigger a lot of people, but American food almost everywhere is so insanely superior and cheaper)\n\nVery difficult to get guns (for some people pro)\n\nWeather (for some people pro)\n\nAirline prices (as what was mentioned)\n\nPeople seem to come off very mean or serious (at least in the Toronto area)\n\nPros to Canada:\n\nMore left leaning politics (for some people good)\n\nOverall a safer country\n\nTap water (although where I live in the US it is the exact same)\n\nMore regulation on harmful products\n\nPublic transportation, city layouts

This was a really cool episode. I'm a born and raised Canadian, but my friends and my fiancé are all from the USA, so I've got a firsthand look at the differences in our cultures and countries.\n\nOne thing I'll say right off the bat, I think a big part of what makes Canada work the way it does, is that we have such a small population compared to the USA.\n\nCanada only has around 35 million people, but there are some states in the USA that have over 40 Million people on their own. \n\nWhen you have that many people crammed together in one location, all fighting for jobs and housing and food and everything, it makes sense why you might have a culture that's a lot louder and self serving, because you have to compete with millions of people if you really want to make something of yourself.\n\nMy hometown of Edmonton Alberta, for example, we had a population of just 500,000. And I think the laid back attitude that a lot of people have in Canada is a product of that. \n\nThat's a big reason our crime levels would appear lower as well, because there's just a lot less of us.
2023-01-17 7
Cons(Canada): Hospitals sucks, government is a tad overbearing, shipping is a little strange for some products, weather (chilly), taxes \nPros(Canada): It's mostly a peaceful place to live, few controversial events, people are nice\n\nInvert list for America

A very bad policy that will only serve to exacerbate the affordable housing crisis and create even more social tensions and environmental degradation. The government is increasing the number of immigrants to serve an ideology of ever increasing economic growth, which simply means ever increasing levels of production and consumption with the natural consequences of rising levels of pollution, vanishing pristine areas, shrinking wildlife populations and forest cover, etc, etc. Do we really want to be a country so committed to American style economic policies that we will give away all that is sacred and unique about our land so that the government has a larger tax base?
2023-01-01 0
Looking at gdp to taxes is pointless because gdp has massively outpaced the growth in wages. Gdp is the full value of all products and services made and sold. That doesn't mean that value is passed on.

Some statements are not accurate. Not all products are before tax like alcohol. Vancouver has a larger homeless population because it is warmer. Canadian banking is pretty advanced and you can email transfer money which can be received in 30 minutes or less between Canadian bank accounts. Canadian banking and independent investment brokerages have advanced security and high tech authentication.
