Becsuse Canada cannot accomidate an influx of people all at once. People from.3rd world countries who suddenly have access to a heath system for free? Thats gonna make for overcrowded hospitals. To say nothing of the lak of housing. \n But .... 30 yrs ago our biggest fear was that there would ,'no longer be a pension'. Those fears are quelled because these immigrants, while working at Tim Hortons will pay tax.

Canada is caught in a trap. We need new immigrants because our demographic is shrinking, Canada's birth rate is only 1.33. But we haven't kept up with public services and housing to meet the demands of the new people. This causes unsustainable house price, healthcare and infrastructure issues.

As a 32 year old male born in Kitchener, Ontario. This mass immigration is killing our country. With so many immigrants from India that (as a whole, not every Indian) do NOT assimilate to Canada and our culture has us pretty upset. It’s making our housing crisis worse and killing our economy. Canada is not the same country I grew up in and it’s changing fast before our very eyes. We are losing our image, identity and our culture. For my argument, we get called a racist for pointing this out about the mass Indian immigration. They immediately combat us saying “look what you did to the natives” like come on… The truth is, we’d call out anyone else from any other country.

We need to stop the maddening greed that makes it impossible for creating housing for immigrants and born citizens. And the instability in the middle east and south sns central America needs a viable solution so people don't have to flee their homes. This world is such a mess

Need to build more affordable housing.

Hate to break it to some of these people in the video, but if you vote for the right in your local and federal elections like Polliviere (not saying vote for the status quo), they will only further the privatization of housing markets and bring in the advisors from Florida and millionaires from California to exacerbate and worsen this and only bring xenophobia in your hearts without solving any problem...

Kind of difficult to understand how why we brought in a million people without looking at the stress it puts on our infrastructures esp housing…

How much of this is just due to giant corporations buying up all the housing and jacking up rents?

I love immigrants, they're what make our country so special all the different cultures coming together. The problem right now is because of terrible government mismanagement we don't have enough housing or jobs for everyone already here. That's my only reason for wanting to pause immigration. It's like being on a life raft that's already full, you can't take more even if you want to.

Don’t blame the government’s failure to provide adequate housing on immigration. The housing crisis exists even if no more immigrants arrive. All levels of government failed in recognizing housing as their highest priority. The City of Toronto for example, is spending money and councillors’ energy rename street rather than putting that towards housing. The Canadian government is littered with incompetence, starting at the top.

Need to build more housing. Scarcity pitting people against each other to appease baby boomers.

It's not failing' what's failing us and most western nations is Neoliberalism.\n\nYouTube sources: Michael Hudson (on housing and also neoliberalism). Also many YouTube videos available explaining what Neoliberalism is, and its affect on societies.

Canadian politicians should play the Simcity. They will learn the consequences of housing shortage.

A big part of the problem in Ontario at least are the huge numbers of foreign students. The government of Ontario allowed a large number of fly by night schools to open up to attract foreign students with the promise of a high quality Canada education. The schools charge the foreign students very high tuition, but give very poor service. They have no student housing, no proper campus and often don't even have classrooms or lecture halls that can handle the number of students they have enrolled. The students end up paying a fortune for a second class education, it is little more than a scam.

The tenancy board is allowing this knowingly. Why do home owners have to follow different rules than the banks. If home owner doesn’t pay his mortgage, the bank will take his house in no time. The tenancy board does this to immigrant home owners more than to anybody else. They are forcing people to take law into their own hands.

Ask yourself why the global elites want this so bad. When you realize the answer you will know just how screwed we are. The great reset is here ww3 is here we will have a one world government by 2040 and be thankful for it. Now get in line for your digital ID so you can get housing food and medical. Keep your mouth shut and do what your told or you digital ID score will go down—

I don't understand why common sense people in, America don't understand that we don't have the housing for, Americans, much less, millions of immigrants as well as other resources all people will need.

UK is the same. Immigrants are housed in hotels with free food and heating while locals are trying to stay alive with EAT or HEAT decisions on a daily basis. GO FIGURE politicians.

LAST DAYS PROPHECIES ISRAELITES (SO-CALLED NEGROES SCATTERED EARTH-WIDE (Deu 28:68) AND GENTILE HEATHENS (NON-ISRAELITES):\n\n2 Esdras 15:16-19\n[16] For there shall be sedition among men, and invading one another; they shall not regard their kings nor princes, and the course of their actions shall stand in their power.\n[17] A man shall desire to go into a city, and shall not be able.\n[18] For because of their pride the cities shall be troubled, the houses shall be destroyed, and men shall be afraid.\n[19] A man shall have no pity upon his neighbour, but shall destroy their houses with the sword, and spoil their goods, because of the lack of bread, and for great tribulation.

Sooo, the same story everywhere... insufficient infrastructure causes problems that people then combine with xenophobia to produce anti-immigration demands instead of asking for more housing or investment in health services, etc. Okay. Gotcha.

110k thousand people a month. We are building 250k houses a year. Math is hard, I get it. But this isn’t a hard problem. Stop letting in so many people, or start the largest series of construction Canada and possibly the world has ever seen. Not just homes, but schools, roads, grocery stores, electric plants, water purification plants, sewers. \n\nPick one of those paths. Those are the only options don’t don’t collapse our country…

The Trudeau Liberals opened our borders without having the housing or jobs infrastructure in place. Trudeau has destroyed our economy and increased out taxes to the point that new home construction has ground to a halt.\n\nTrudeau has declared that he'll build enough homes in the next few years to resolve the problem. Unfortunately, the rate of new home construction that he's declared calculates out to one new home completed every minute (24 hours a day) for the next ten years. We don't have the contractors, builders, or workers to accomplish this. We don't have a plan for this. Trudeau constantly declares his wild, pie in the sky promises without a step by step plan.

They will tax you out of your house & give it to immigrants

It has to stop or there will be civil war and chaos. Yeah it´s nice to be compassionate\nbut you have to be able to afford it. And when you can´t find affordable housing, the\ngroceries get more expensive every week and your society is overburdened with the\nfinancial and societal costs of immigration (welfare, social housing, overtaxed schools\nand hospitals not to mention crime) it will break the system.

It's all about supply and demand you keep bring immigrants over and that is exactly why housing is so high

For the past ten years all they built is condos for investment and no apartment for rent for the people ,my people we have to look very close to the people we put in power in every level of government in Canada.if we do not start now we will be in the same boat in the future. I would like to know how many past government officials that have invested into the housing market.then we will have a better knowledge on low income housing that are not being built.

I think Manitoba is the cheapest place to live. Atlantic Canada, houses might sound cheap but most of them very old. To get job also is difficult. More tax and less per hour salary in New Brunswick. But good only for seniors, who retired after working in Ontario or BC or other cities.

Let's see...inflation, rising unemployment, a house costs $1 million+, rent is $2K, our infrastructure and healthcare system are overwhelmed...it's not rocket science

The problem is not just the tenants. Part of the problem is creation of a speculative housing market where housing a basic human need is primarily constructed for stock market like trading speculation rather than providing shelter for people. If you already own a house or condo that you are already living in why should you be allowed to personally buy multiple housing properties. My opinion is that if you are not a real estate developer or the government you should be limited to owning only one extra real estate property with the only extra exception being a recreational cottage

The area of land that is within a reasonable commute of a CBD is fixed. So any increase in population makes every square metre of that land more valuable and more expensive. Supply and demand. Any increase in the cost of housing is anti-baby making.. So importing foreigners discourages the local people from having families.

A tenant of mine - a social worker - shifted a homeless man into an empty apartment in my house without asking for a permit. I offered him to shelter the homeless man as a guest within his rented apartment, yet this he did not want. Typical socialist: placing the rotten egg in the nest of others to deal with. I told him, if he does this again, then eviction time comes.\n\nThere is a way to get the above lady out. No, I am not talking about hitmen from the dark web. What I mean is, get the government agencies involved by claiming she endangers hygienic conditions within the building. There is always some evidence for that, if not then be creative and shift the blame.

As a child of immigrants, I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised at how sane and policy-based this comments section is when the issue is so aggravating to the public. It goes to show how badly the government at all levels has fumbled, and I can speak from my own experience that most immigrants and children of immigrants agree that we cannot let this many immigrants into the country without better integration and housing availability. It does not benefit ANYONE.

seems like they got everyone eating hand to mouth no matter how hard they work which kills upward mobility.\nThe free market doesn't address this because everyone wants to make a profit, housing prices will match what they can get from people.

I can never take anybody seriously when they deny that housing problems and infrastructure problem are not linked to population growth.

In BC, the tennant has more voice because theres a lot of people who take advantage of the housing market i guess..

Let’s put it this way. If Canada limited the immigration, there would be a shortage of workers, not housing, and theoretically everyone’s wages would increase.

Canada, like Australia and etc., faces a fundamental issue that makes it reliant on—or even more severely, dependent on—immigration. Of course discussing this fundamental issue is inappropriate for Canadians. The housing crisis is not caused by immigrants. While you can criticize immigration policies, they are merely the straw that broke the camel's back. It's similar to inflation; like, even if it remains at 2% per year, we will still experience the peaks and troughs of business cycles, just less intensely. Sure you can have a public housing program, where does that money come from? More and more tax money. Having to work harder to only end up with paying more taxes for those who either did not have the opporunities or didn't work as hard (who cares what the actual reasons are), just feels like a ripoff.

now that's idiocy at the highest level. who in their right mind is gonna want to build for rent with such a law in place yet they complain of lack of housing, how anymore stupid can this be.

Yeah. Free money and health care with housing

many immigrants are desperate to get out of canada. We have no housing, high taxes, no jobs. No one can afford to live here anymore. I wish I could run across the border and escape too.
|
| 2024-08-09 | 0 |
That's bull. The government has never invested in housing the way they were supposed to be. I don't remember the last time housing was part of election debate. Neither at provincial level nor national level. Immigration is again used at the boogeyman to justify housing problems. Grassroots organizations have been saying for years that we have a housing problem, and since it wasn't a sexy subject for politicians, they never talked or did anything about it.

It’s not just Canada; depending on the country you live in, the cost of living and housing prices are similar worldwide, with only the currency being different.
