TRUMP launched this trade war. NOT the American people. But we, true and patriotic Americans, who denounce Trump need our allies to stand firm against Trump - even if it hurts us. The only way for us to be able to take Trump down is to convince his supporters that he is wrong and that his actions are destroying America.

Americans stay united. There will be short term pain for long term growth for Americans. Canada tax us more than we tax them and now we are taxing them the same they are crying. Most Americans stands with President Trump.
2025-03-04 0
American voters have put us in this position. They are not our allies or our friends!
2025-03-04 0
What an idiot. He is making everything worse for Canada. And the nerve to bring up Putin and insinuating Trump is on his side. Then to put down the American people to say Your government is doing this. \nIf he were smart, he wouldnt have made a news conference till his temper calmed down. Then just plainly say we are making the same tarrifs to the US...which essentially is a wash. We dont need Canadas imports. The only reason we go to Canada for supplies is because of regulations, EPA , green deal and special interest groups. \nNow that is over we dont need them.\nCanada has refused secure their border for years.

2025-03-04 0
Why aren't US Americans protesting? Speaking up? Hitting the streets to fight this? You are all so meek. Weren't you the ones that said that you needed guns in the government is full of traitors? Now is the time. Now it's full of traitors.

The reality is: the US has reached a record high trade deficit with Canada. This deficit has grown steadily since 1976 (today it is just shy of $100 billion - meaning the US purchases $100 billion more worth of goods from Canada than Canada does from the US). The US imposing tariffs on Canada is a tactic to incentivize US companies who import goods from Canada to move manufacturing/production sourcing back to American soil. This promotes investment and expansion into the US economy. It will also incentivize Canada to commit to investing in the US economy. This would be a negotiation move by Trudeau: we (Canada) will commit to purchasing $25 billion (for example) dollars more of goods from the US if you agree to reduce the tariffs you've imposed on us to blank (maybe 5%). This is likely the end goal Trump is aiming for in the long run.

People in Canada just have to do what they have to do. But there are ways to carry on without 100% of the US business and hospitality. We never had to look far for things as American companies had offered to deal with Canada of course to their profit as well. So now we have to look around for new customers, start new ventures. It doesn't have to be this way. Things were great for both of us the way it was. And it can be that way again once Trump is gone. This will be temporary. Trump is not forever. We both have realized now what both countries had and we can carry on when the time comes.

Love our Canadian partners! Please forgive those of us who DID NOT vote for this individual. He is an embarrassment, pathetic representation of who we are as Americans!
2025-03-04 0
Is there no one at CNN who can translate French? Really? I'm American, and I'm hoping Trudeau announces that he's making trade deals with Europe (and even China) that cut us out. Betraying our allies should never be incentvised. I'm even hoping they cut off our oil, which WILL jack gas prices, since our refineries in the Midwest are only deisgned to process Canadian crude. And the truth is that the reason for the tariffs is that Trump has direct control over them, and can probably have Elon do something with the revenue that couldn't be done with normal taxes. We're all getting screwed here.

We are SO SORRY, Canada! \nThere are MILLIONS of American’s who feel the same… “Make it make sense?!” Thank you Canada for years of wonderful relations. This is what the people want to continue. Thank you PM Trudeau, for speaking the truth and speaking directly to us and our current, unfortunate leadership with facts and decorum. We applaud you standing your ground. Stay strong against our bullying government. It’s a sad, sad time. ❤️‍?

Most of us Americans think what is going on in our government is heinous and disastrous. We love you Canada…do what you got to do.
2025-03-04 0
This is regressive tax to Americans, all of us. The one that will be affected most are the bottom 95%. I hope we will be OK in April...

As a resident of Michigan I support Canada 100 Percent. Trump is a Traitor!!! Punish all of US to wake up the 49 percent of Americans who voted for the Orange Traitor and his Vice President Muskmellon!!!!
2025-03-04 0
We americans are so fed up with Trump and his tariffs we did not vote for this how could he do this to us americans ?
2025-03-04 0
This is neither here nor there to Americans but the Canadians will not forget this in a hurry. They are going to boycott American goods of their own free will. The result is the US will have lost market share in Canada well after this tariff spat is over.
2025-03-04 0
Most of us didn't vote for him. Im ashamed to be American. Give the fat orange man hell Mr Trudeau. Elbows up ?

Canadian here- I hate Trudeau just as much as most Canadians, and as it seems most Republican Americans do as well. But I fully stand behind him at this hour. He might have shit the bed for most Canadians during his time as PM, but when it mattered he has stood up for Canada. Review the facts and educate yourself on the current situation between CAN and the US. I will be the first to admit, Canada has not done enough in terms of its own security and military, but these failures should not be the decay in our friendship as nations. The US DOES NOT subsidize Canada, it DOES NOT give money to Canada. In simple terms- the larger country, with the largest economy in the world (USA) buys more from its Northern brother, which produces vast amounts of natural resources which the larger southern country requires. As for the booing seen at most recent sports events in Canada, that is directed at the President, not the average American. I myself would never boo a national anthem, an anthem that millions have sacrificed to protect and defend. But I understand the pain and anger that is coming from my country. We have always been allies, friends, and to most even family. I do hope that in the future our relationship can heal and move forward but the current actions being taken by the American admistration are horrendus and upsetting to most of the world outside of the US. I wish us all the best in the future, be nice to one another, and always remember that the US and Canada have fought, spilled blood, and died alongside one another in the fight for democracy and freedom around the world.

American here. So many of us are so sorry about what Traitor Trump is doing. Hopefully we can be friends again after the US idiot is gone.

The America Justice system and Politicians represent the people, who make decisions have turn their backs on us and even their own people in the USA push to have Elon Musk Canadian birth right remove from our great country Canada . Elon not worthy to be even call a Canadian . Oh no we can't forget dear old JD Vance who speaks against gay right and he worn little girl clothes in high school and still today wear makeup around his eyes. I am happy that this will increase the costs on the american people. I hope all provinces remove all USA produced alcohol from their shelves. I hope we apply levies on all energy and mineral exports to the USA. This would include potash, oil, power, nickel, uranium, lumber, etc. I have no ill will to the american people, but your president (whether you elected him or not, he is YOUR president) has started this and you, the american people, are going to end up paying more for everything in the very near future. Your president has now started the FA, and the US public is about to FO. This is NOT hurt any of your billionaires or politicians that brought this upon you. You cannot be upset at anyone than your elected officials.

I’m American, fuck Trump and Elon Musk. I support my brothers and sisters in Canada and across the world! This is bs and this sucks for all of us. We started a war with our friends…Everyone knows real winners win together.

I thought this man run and fixing the economy and making it better for the American people not making it worse for us WTF its like a ?????stock
2025-03-04 0
California stands with Canada. Please keep addressing the people of our country directly. Unlike trump, us SANE Americans are listening.
2025-03-04 0
This is absolutely the worst the USA Canada relationship has been. I lived in the US during Bush2.0 and have many American friends. This isn't personal (unless you continue to support Trump).
2025-03-04 0
This hurts Americans in a much bigger way than minerals, oil etc …Trump is destroying all our relationships with allies all over the world. This has a larger impact than people are realizing… Trump has now isolated us from our allies and is stirring up trouble all over the world..just for Putin!!!!!
2025-03-04 0
I am an American, I am so sorry to everyone. It is such an embarrassment what the pres has done. I dont blame you all for retaliation. God bless us all
2025-03-04 0
As an American, my opinion is Trump is a traitor, siding with Dictators and from all evidence it appears he’s trying to destroy us. I am for and with Canada and the rest of the free world. Do everything you can to defeat Trump.
2025-03-04 0
So proud of Justin and proud to be Canadian. I no longer purchase American goods, will not buy from American stores, and will not travel to the US. ?????
2025-03-04 0
I am not a US citizen but I’m ashamed of the Trump administration and I am ashamed of myself that I was one of Trump's supporters ??????\nI hope Americans wake up and take their future into their own hands.
2025-03-04 0
Maybe a little rough right now, but it’ll all work out and have a major benefit for Americans. Us first, everyone else last.
2025-03-04 0
American here, did not vote for this, did not want this, very angry at what the current US administration is doing.
2025-03-04 0
Save us Mr. Trudeau!! A HUGE majority of Americans didn't vote for Trump. We are suffering under his Maga and racism.
2025-03-04 0

Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against $155 billion worth of American goods, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a press conference Tuesday. \n \nSpeaking from Ottawa, Trudeau said there was “absolutely no justification or need whatsoever” for the tariffs imposed by the US on Canada, which went into effect today. \n \nThe prime minister explained that $30 billion worth of US goods would see tariffs immediately, while the remaining $125 billion worth of goods would see tariffs in 21 days. \n \nTrudeau added that Canada will file claims at the World Trade Organization, but in the meantime, “our tariffs will remain in place until the US tariffs are withdrawn and not a moment sooner.” \n \nThe prime minister also again hit back against US assertions about Canada being unwilling to help in the fight against illegal fentanyl. \n \nHe said the legal pretext Trump presented for the justification of the tariffs —“that Canada is apparently unwilling to help in the fight against illegal fentanyl” — is “totally false.”

You mention that Americans are 30% more expensive than Canadians but you dont mention that the US is far more unequal with a Gini coefficient of 0.41 vs 0.35 in Canada. Now there is also a known issue with using GDP data to calculate productivity and that is that in sme countries the labor of GDP is much lower than in others. You then end up with Irish productivity being the second highest in the world only because most large US corporations operating in the EU register there to pay lower taxes but most of that revenue is just on paper for Ireland. or with Guyana whose oil and mining revenue makes it productivity equal to that of the US. Maybe that is the case, but is it? and if so why is the average wage in Guyana so much lower? so choosing only one specific stat can make any point of view seem true. you have to look at the bigger picture.\nnow the issue is Canada has been getting more unequal but it is still much better than the US. so what it means is that the higher worker productivity in the US benefits corporations and billionaires far more than it benefits the average American. now if we compare cost of living say between NYC and Toronto:\nCost of Living in Toronto is 37.5% lower than in New York, NY (without rent) \nCost of Living Including Rent in Toronto is 47.1% lower than in New York, NY \nRent Prices in Toronto are 59.2% lower than in New York, NY \nRestaurant Prices in Toronto are 34.5% lower than in New York, NY \nGroceries Prices in Toronto are 33.0% lower than in New York, NY \nLocal Purchasing Power in Toronto is 7.2% higher than in New York, NY \nand this is similar when comparing almost all large Canadian cities with a comparable US one. And whilst housing and NIMBYIsm is real issue you have very similar issues in the US which also has almost no mix zoning. But throw in safety nets and go ask Canadians if they want to change for the US system. I doubt most will. Sure some want things to change but some assuming everyone wants an ultra capitalistic society. most are ok with less growth ut better balanced growth (the exact opposite of the boom and bust US model)

Indians have used Canada like a flop house. Indians go to diploma mills and try to use it as a backdoor to stay in Canada. They take over Canadian communities and try to turn them into India - making the locals feel like foreigners in their own home. They're also involved in a lot of crime. This includes: auto theft rings, synthetic ID/credit fraud, gun and drug smuggling, and one of the largest gold heists in Canadian history at Toronto Pearson airport. Americans have stated that the top nationality entering the US illegally from Canada is Indian. The drugs they are complaining about entering the US from Canada are almost entirely brought in by Indian truck drivers (Google it and find many examples). A Fentanyl super lab in BC capable of producing over 95 million lethal doses that was busted was run by an Indian. This is now threatening trade with our main trade partner as a trade war has just started. ENOUGH ALREADY! Indians need to be sent home, and banned from entering Canada.

All I can say,is that as an American we are doing our part to make the US a terrible place to live. Would not recommend, not worth the better job opportunity or relatively cheaper house.

All joking aside, Canada has been able to form a symbiotic relationship of mutual benefit with the United States since even before NAFTA 1. But.......... right now it is almost like a 51st state and I do not mean that in a joking way. US states are always competing with each other, but what prevents things like, oh say the American Civil war from happening is the Federal apparatus keeps them in line for the good of the empire as a whole. \n\n If Canada is like a 51st state, then it is competing with the other 50 states in a way that all 50 of them are going to get upset about. So either the states complain, or you treat Canada as an economic competitor. Mexico being behind the United States and Canada is what makes it a good candidate for a symbiotic relationship. For all its problems, Mexico has a Christian population (with some indigenous traits) that goes well with America. Their nations different economic status means we can support them and they can support us doing different things for countries of different development stages.\n\nCanada being so similar to the United States will want that as well and will never outbid the United States. Again this is seen as a hostile economic competitor. \n\nIts not Canada or Americas fault. After 2007 and the lies about fanny and Freddie, leman bros, mortgage backed security's, and a cash shortage that was not real. How was it real if the offshore exchanges did nothing? 2007 was not financial in origin it was our global monetary system seizing up. To say Wall Street greed and MBSs did it would be like saying a single drop of cement turned the ocean to cement.\n\nBut something did. Something turned the market from liquid to concrete, it happened in France decades before......\nFinancially packaged items could no longer be priced or traded.

As a Canadian it looks good on USA yOUR PRESIDENT HAS THREATENED US OUR SOVEREIGNTY AND DISRESPECTED OUR PM. IF ONLY WE CAN STOP AMERICANS FROM COMING HERE... WERE SO DONE WITH TRUMPS BS... YOUR DESTROYING YOUR OWN COUNTRY
2025-03-03 0
Theres nothing presumptive about Canada being the US' 51st state. A lot of Canadian's would rather burn everything to the ground than be American, and a lot of others still would rather flee to Europe than be trapped in Trump's America

Canada has many problems and disadvantages which will need to be determinedly addressed in the coming years. However, we have one key advantage over our friends to the south, and one I hope that over time this will increasingly bear fruit: we are not governed by a fascist-adjacent government. Our only political party with policies resembling the American Republicans is polling in the low single digits.\n\nSetting aside the question of whether American Republicans are 'fascist-adjacent', the truth is that much of the world perceives it as such. Our economy is so tied to the US that I would not wish them ill, or at least not very much. However, I think in the competition for talent American politics will be like a 'mark of Cane' on that country for a generation. My guess is that our - in comparison - boring politics will be a key advantage in the years to come.

America is dangerous and Canada is not. My quality of life is miles better than it would be in the US. \nOur economy is going to be just fine. \n\nThe American economy is going to be the one that declines the most in the next decade, thanks to Trump! Hahaha

The crazy thing is how many left-leaning Americans point to Canadian policies as a model the US should follow even with all these data points showing the opposite. We need more evidence-based governing (and more viewers to this channel!).
2025-03-02 0
The US has just had 4 years of wide open borders encouraged by the Biden administration. Now you want to blame all your immigration problems on Canada and Mexico and you demand these countries to fix your immigration problem immediately or be penalized. It's like blaming drug addicted Americans on Mexico and Canada. The blame belongs to your own country. Stop playing the victim card and accept your own responsibility!
2025-03-01 0
Wait, why would Canada control border security for the US? Shouldn't American Border Patrol and ICE control America's own borders? At the 3:24 point, are you implying that Canada should control the border for the US? I don't think Canada expects - or even wants - the US to run its borders, but you think Canada should?
2025-03-01 0
This channel is 150% b.s,But the fact of the matter is guns and drugs come free flowing into Canada from the U.S daily, and that problem is much worse.Since Trump got into office Americans have been flooding Canada's border,I don't blame them.If they are taking planes to Canada, then crossing, the handouts in the US must be amazing
