Canada is not worth coming to if you own a home in your current country and are generally happy, have a decent job and family, don't come here because it will not be easy or better than what you have. You will have to start from nothing, working the worst jobs cleaning hotels and toilets or working minimum wage in a retail store, even if you are a professional in your home country. There is nothing better here, nothing is free unless you come as a refugee. This country is the anti-dream of America. The taxes are very hi, the rent is unaffordable, to buy a house you have to make $200,000k a year, so basically you will be screwed. There is no way to save for retirement in Canada, so don't think life will get easier. In Canada you will get stuck working well beyond your retirement years like into your 70's you will work here until you drop dead. My parents are 70 and still work because they are still paying off their mortgage, while they get retirement $1,300 per month which is the standard is a joke since it doesn't cover the basics, you need $6,000 at least to survive for a month, to buy food, gas for your car, carinsurance, phone bill, utilities, anything else, just the basics. What the government gives you is completely unrealistic to the times, considering the amount of money people pay in taxes you don't get enough during your retirement years, the government has no use for you so they dont care about you when you get old.

You're comparing Montreal to major cities in America. If that's the case, what you're saying is fair. Montreal is in deed well planned and human scaled. BUT the rest of Canada is NOT like this. Other cities like Mississauga, Hamilton, Scarborough, Calgary, etc etc are all sprawling, ugly, need a car, stupid expensive, shit transit, shit food you name it. Toronto is also stupid expensive but at least has good food.

As someone from Belgium that now lives in Columbus OH because of marriage, you're spot on with everything. Safety? Limited. Sprawl? Terrible. Rent? Eh it's not that bad. I make a base salary of $82.5k and my wife makes $50k. Our 2br 1ba apartment's rent is about $1000. It's a nice place, but it has some flaws. Our next place will be around $1500. I've told my wife I don't like the sprawl and lack of public transport here and I want to move to a place where that is less of an issue: Chicago, NYC or Boston. However, the latter two have crazy high rent.\n\nI must add, the terribly unsupported public education system in Columbus is by far the worst reason. My wife is a teacher at a Columbus City School that's almost 100% black. White families put their kids through private schools. The rest of the kids have terrible home lives and are therefore incredibly ill-behaved and under-educated. So much so that the teachers just CANNOT keep up with Ohio's learning standards. By the time these kids graduate (and that's a big IF), they would have learned about 20% of what a regular 18-year old would have learned in most of the world. This is in part due to:\n1. Parents that do not involve themselves in what their children do, and therefore do not discipline appropriately.\n2. Terrible school admins that force teachers to lower their standards to have a high passing rate for the school (otherwise it gets shut down). Also, due to the No Child Left Behind Act, admins also force teachers to teach how to pass state tests (repetitive bullshit) instead of important learning materials and/or critical thinking skills.\n3. A lot of these students are pushed into the gang lifestyle and see no future in their education. They don't even try.\n4. Burned out teachers that grew tired of the negative ROI and start giving out poor and inadequate work packets. However, I don't like blaming teachers, especially because my wife is the hardest working person I know.\n\nIt's hard to see my wife come back every day, exhausted. It pains me both for her and her kids. America doesn't give a fuck about education. The big theory is that they're purposely not giving public schools attention so they can be phased out and private education becomes the norm. And if you can't afford it? That's great, we need factory workers.\n\n\nI might convince my wife to move to Europe eventually (luckily a European marriage visa isn't as stupidly hard to obtain as it was for me to get here). Having kids in America is not something I'd like to think about. For now, I'm taking advantage of this high salary to save as much as I can and focus on advancing in my career. Boy here in America I often get totally different treats every time I go out to shopping. Me and others walked at the same time I am never greeted or asked if I needed any help but the white skin color does. This often happens in Macys and Loft stores. After a while I decided to inform them how I was being ignored or being treated differently . in Loft store sadly she was the manager who was herself was being prejudice and I knew my complain will not go anywhere. To each his own because i have had horrible experiences in Canada. During covid lock down , i went to visit my sister and missed my flight twice because of difficulties with getting a covid test. There was a whole long line just to get a damn test. Here in America there's a CVS everywhere. \nI also did not like the food there too much. After buying food from a local restaurant i knew my home cooked food would have turned out better. \n My sister gave birth and bought a sofa around the time she just put to birth. The guy doing the delivery left the couch at the door after i begged him to help us as my sister just had a c-section and could not lift heavy stuff-he refused and i was just shocked. In America people would gladly help if you needed help.\nLast month i sent my sister a Christmas gift through UPS and when it arrived Canada, they returned it to me after i paid to clear it at customs.\nI would never want to go to Canada again.

I’m an American. I live rather close to Canada and spent over 2 years in time living there over summers mostly . I love both. If you aren’t going to a grocery store you are probably getting fat in America. I find it hard to eat when I’m outside of my larger metro area. honestly I don’t worry about my security because thankfully I work hard to pay the bills to live in an area I don’t need to worry about. I am an American born in NY, raised in VA. I also lived in Van Nuys for a year, also lived in Texas before my job industry moved me to Canada. \ni have been in Canada for 7yrs, been to Vancouver, Toronto and MTL and to be honest i like a lot of things in Canada like the health care differences and of course the lower insulin cost for my husband but i still want to go back home. If anything i would stay in Toronto because it's the closest similarity to home but where Aba and Preach live, in Montreal, it's literally been my nightmare. I feel like the tap water at least in my area has gotten worse over time. \nOne thing i feel like they didn't mention that I have to tell people from America to watch out for is the credit card vs debit card thing. \nI grew up only having debit cards because i didn't want to get into debt. when i came to Canada i continued getting a debit card and realized the hard way that not everything accepts debit cards and you NEED to also have a credit card to access certain things.\nbut overall i do feel much safer in Canada even though the crazy trump lovers are showing up here and there it's significantly less than i see when I'm back home.

The unfortunate thing is, a lot of people can't talk about simple truths. And if you try to, you will be called a racist, because facts and statistics are racist apparently. But if you look at the crime statistics database, something like 90% of violent crime is committed by black and Hispanic men between the age of 18 to 45. If you removed that demographic from America, America would be like some future Utopian world where all we knew was peace. So those demographics need to be allowed to be talked about if we want to be able to find solutions and solve those problems. And no, giving reparations would never solve stop those crimes. As a kenyan living in the UK for the past 7 yrs ,i came into conclusion that theres something not right about nigerians living abroad, among all africans ive met here in England, its only nigerians that never loves their country compared to other africans, ive met south africans ,cameroonians ghanians ugandans malawians liberians and Gambians all of them are proud of their respective countries and they tend to go back whenever they get the opportunity, i inclusive i do go back to kenya like every december coz i just cant stand being in the UK the entire year without going back home for a couple of weeks ...when it comes to nigerians ive met over here theres something always off, they hate their country sooo much to an extent one told me nigeria is a country in ICU ,some even told me they can set foot in africa but not nigeria..so nigerians tell me wats soo bad about your country that you tend to run away from it, even in my home country kenya there are estates designated for nigerians..Besides i prefer being in UK than in north america coz of the distance i cant imagine being in US or canada coz of the flight hours ,they're sooo far away from my country i love it in the UK coz its closer to home and i dont need connecting flights in most cases when going to kenya.

I’m sick of this crap about taxes. When you’re older you’ll need these services and back you’ll come to get free stuff other people pay for. Try going to America for their health care, you pay health insurance, but have to wait ages at emergency, you may get an op faster but if your plan does not cover all your costs you will need to get a loan, some people have to sell their homes. Yes they let you have a holiday or a sick day off but you don't get paid. Looking over the fence and chasing after the pot of gold has its downfall and believe me if home was a safe place, then staying would have been your best option.

One of the top issues is being black. Seen as black and identified as black when you leave a predominantly Black Country. \nWhen I watch the various Realestate shows of white people buying property abroad as second home or just packing up and moving. I always say it must be nice! But to just go there and be a regular teacher, doctor, lawyer, engineer to the low and middle class you’ll end up with the same financial issues and struggles as a result. You gotta now cater to the rich and famous wealthy people but then it’s back to never being home and not enough time for family. \nThe reality is if we could make the money we make here in North America and Uk back home in in the Caribbean and specific countries in Africa it would be a dream come true and that goes for other communist countries too. You truly have to know what makes you happy. Make money but enjoy life it might mean living below your means even though you can can afford a bit better life style. People do it all the time back home (not because they want to I know) but for some reason when you move abroad a one bedroom for your single self is to small, the car under $24k isn’t good enough, you don’t want your kids to share a room so you need a bigger house and the list goes on and on. \nCanada is boring if your not in a major city with money to spend you know why? Because people forget the population of the entire country of Canada is only a 3rd, 4th, 10th of the population of certain countries that immigrants came from and in the case of the US population it’s 100x more than Canada. So of course there’s more opportunities there. \nAnd finally imagine if more countries didn’t need visas to travel? They really would just come to make money and go back home or live bicoastal. Even just the freedom of travel half of the immigrants would of settled elsewhere before the year was up or go back home.

These problems are also present in many parts of America as well... Its even worse in LA AND NYC. THIS IS WHY people are moving to Europe where there is more public transit so you dont need a car!

For me this is fear. They are afraid to relate to each other, because people do not trust anyone. To me, America is a pressure cooker waiting to burst. In fact, the United States is the most dangerous country for the security of the planet, it has all the necessary ingredients to start a war at stratospheric levels. It just needs the right people to come out for this to materialize.

It is a very insightful video about what aspects of lifestyle can be very depressing for people. Also, habits define your life. People are not the most highly social in the USA. I moved to Mexico. I missed the tropics and I missed a less planned social life. At the same time, I think the economic pressures that people live in Africa and Latin America need to be addressed. Stay home and work on improving economics for your African or Latin American nations. Trading in extended family and the love of the community for money and loneliness is not worth it. Block parties, cook outs, neighborhood meetings, bus trips to the beaches, weddings and Saturday clean ups were all apart of our past community's. Yes some still exist. However, anytime Blacks in America have demanded equity, justice, education, health rights, human rights, and fair housing, we are met often with a back lash. Suddenly, rents go up. Houses have doubled or tripled in increase. Crime waves have made it almost impossible for people to come out and relax freely. Political changes have also played a major roll. Neighborhoods have been redlined. Even where one goes to vote has been moved. White racism and fear, entire industry's have moved put of key areas. So thete is a natural break down. Neighborhood meets come to a end and different organizations from schools, to planting trees to parking all get affected due to such changes. Local small businesses that knew each family members also close up and leave. Its not a question of oh you have everything you need in your American house. That is not it! Its more complex. The lack of kids playing out front or the older ladies keeping watch have disappeared also due to no rent control policies.

When mothers stayed at home to look after the young children I think things were very different , its the same here in Australia now . Although when our children were young my wife did not work and there was a vibrant community of mothers during the day time and children playing out in the streets , even when we returned from a small country town back to the city . Now , both parents need to work , so the suburbs ar empty during the week . As an aside if EBM is talking about north / north America much of the winter months are so cold you are not likely to be sitting out on the porch talking to your neighbour !

Since the year 2000, the cost of owning a detached home has risen 10 folds. You could buy a corner lot house in a nice area and good location for an average of $160,000. Now that home would cost 10 times that cost in the last 20 years. Why? Foreign investors and immigration based on supply and demand as this also includes the increase in rent cost. People spend on average about $1000 to 1500 for a room to rent not their own suite in Vancouver. USA has a wider spectrum of medical options in comparison to Canada. Canadians travel to USA because the waiting list is often way too long. Canada is nota complete free medical system as people hear and rehabilitation expenses are not free unless it is inside a hospital. It was from at one time as Medicare was founded on the grounds in the 1960's by Tommy Douglas, former premier of Saskatchewan, who initiated Medicare but it was no sustainable. \n\nJust because a person gets referred to a doctor, particularly a specialist when there are very few doctors in that area of care, it does not guarantee you will receive the treatment. I waited 2.5 years for a treatment in a hospital, only to be told that I was not a candidate for that treatment even though they did not screen me as a precursor before making a rational decision. DEVESTATING! Canadians if they have money often go to USA or Mexico when in desperate need. \n\nThere is a lack of doctors as many people do not have a family medical doctor who know their case personally. Complex diseases do not receive proper care as Canada does not have an integrated medical system of care amongst other doctors for patients. It has been on the news media where people have died being on the waiting list, returning back to hospitals where the hospital emergency because the concern of the disease was undermined with the overcrowded medical system.\n\nThere is a increased gentrification in the metropolitan cities that is an issue as the richer are now richer and the poorer are more poor. As there is an INCREASED immigration there is a huge stress in cost of living as there is not enough affordable housing and increased homelessness in Vancouver and Toronto. Vancouver is the worst place in North America as it is known as the drug hub called Skid Row. You can google this information as there are article written for 2021 and previously. Expo 86 and the 2010 Winter Olympics skyrocketed tourism and immigration that many people who are born and raised here before 1986 are very angry and resentful of how drastic the decline of how the quality of life has become.

I have been to every province and territory in Canada country, are trying to paint a untruthful picture of Canada (yes I am Canadian). Halifax is hole that needs to be filled in, people are very unfriendly, high cost for everything. Vancouver is full of drug addicts and whores, terrible traffic, terribly high cost of living, rains a lot a. Vancouver is like California in the US, people go to make money and then get the hell out. Ottawa is nicer than Toronto, just a lot of over paid federal employees. Alberta should be number one. Quebec is a long ways from number one that is for sure, often Quebecers are the rudest people in North America, I know that for sure....... .

People do not make mistakes to come to Canada. I have my university from back home, I finish Waterloo university my diploma with 5 stars, and now I am overeducated for Canada. Stupid people, police state. In Canada, you need only a uniform. If you don't think like Canadians you are an enemy of Canada. People are brainwashed. Canada is only for people from Asia, Africa and Latino America.

I don't think so both countries need comparison .Both are seperb in human development , infrastructure, education and basic human rights . U people are very lucky to live in Canada and america with all the first world things .Both are super powers love from Pakistan ??

You guys need to explain why Canada's waiting line is so long. Canada prioritizes the patients into the worst conditions first like cancer over a broken leg. Canada wants to save everyone and not leave any canadians behind, america is all about leaving americans behind to die to cant afford healthcare and to not being able to make a decent living. You’ve been in an English speaking country for awhile. So why do you need to communicate via Spanish? You should’ve learned the language by now. That’s the biggest thing, if you want to be a American or Canadian then learn the language. \n\nI’m Latin and my father n uncles hated going places in the US and another Latin would speak Spanish to them. Even though they could speak Spanish they said this is America speak English. \n\nNot all minorities like seeing people coming into the country illegally or by trying to use asylum when they have no claim. If it’s hard in your country don’t have kids, try to immigrate legally to a country!

Montreal is Canada's second largest city after Toronto and both cities are actually very similar. You do need French to survive but you can get away without it especially in downtown Montreal because most people are perfectly bilingual. Our metro (subway) is the third busiest subway in North America after Toronto and New York. The city itself is very vibrant and ethnically diverse. Unlike Vancouver or even Toronto, there are always activities to attend especially in the summer. Most of our music festivals tend to be free except for Osheaga which is the Canadian Coachella!

Imagine such a huge country Canada & snitching about a person thousand miles away: it reflects what a tiny mind, tiny thoughts, tiny heart & a pissants attitude Canada has! Cannot tolerate to see other living peacefully, it bites & pinches them! Now I am in very bad condition!

Can we stop saying ‘undocumented?’ This is a man who in two separate occasions walked into a country illegally. I understand the plight, wanting to leave somewhere to give you and your family a better life. However, at what point do we sit here and realize that we need to either follow the process or improve the current process because we cannot have undocumented individuals living across North America.

Obviously there’s people that is indoctrinated but I don’t see even quarter of what going on in the states,\nbut we definitely need the government and media to stop separating us.
