Because I live in Atlanta and my son is homeless in Charlotte and he was homeless in Atlanta and all I see are homeless people lying all over the streets! I like multiculturalism and this country is founded on immigration. But we need to put cap on each country when receiving them so to maintain the balance of good mix.\n\nI get bothered why this guy statistically divide white vs others. We used to live near Trinity bellwood and the park is now filled with used needles. \n\nAs for homelessness, it's always been there and it got worse during economic depression (2008 mortgage crisis) and current prime rate/inflation situation. Even if you study stats from government subsidized housing, most immigrants work and get out of help but the old immigrants (whites) usually don't flip out of the situation for generations. So there is no reason to tie and blame the Indians for our old problem of homeless population. Stay on point and stop tying it down with non-related issues.

Sad part is Jagmeet Singh is pushing for MORE tentant rights to make this even more difficult. I'm dealing with similar situation, massive repairs stiffed on rent, thankfully it's not Ontario or BC. If they ever go to buy a house now they will have outstanding court order against them.

It works both ways. A lot of illegals from Latin America are also passing thru the U.S. enroute to Canada. Thousands are seeking refugee status upon arrival into Quebec or Ontario. Toronto is already bursting at the seams with tens of thousands of refugees plus new immigrants arriving every year. Add in a lack of affordable housing and jobs, and you have the makings of a disaster just like NYC.

I'm sorry to her about her sister. but you have a rental agreement with Mr Singh and should adhere to it or get out . and the other people should get out of that house also or keep paying your rent till you come to an agreement with the owner of the home in Brampton . the law has to change .

stop buying property just to rent it out maybe get a real job instead of taking over properties that you dont intend to live in making the housing crisis even worse. same goes for the people who loaned out to make a bunch of apartments airbnb. you aren't providing anything, your taking something thats available off the market and then repackaging it like its helpful. its really a big part of why housing is so expensive no one wants to work they just want to be landlords.

As a landlord - I had this happen to me .\n$35k in unpaid rent which I never got back after the tenant moved out .\nI learnt that the tenant had done this to 2 other landlords prior .\nIt’s a shame - my house was priced fairly and was a brand new home . There was no reason to pay other than greed .\nI have since sold the home and moved on : it’s one less home for people who can’t afford to buy at the moment to rent .\nThis stupid system needs to be overhauled .

I personally don't believe foreign citizens should own real estate when we have a housing problem. Renting shouldn't be a life long dream but ownership of a home is.

Easy answer: we have housing- we dont have AFFORDABLE housing... blaming the housing crisis on migrants instead of taking responsibility for their failures as politicians who have not kept up on infrastructure and then baiting us against each other so we dont blame the actual problem. Banks raise the cost of mortgages, which in turn raises rentals. This is not the fault of ppl who have had no say in our systems as they just got here, they didnt choose when they're approved to come n work n live in Canada.

They have done the same thing here in Australia. Immigration tap is on full bore, basically zero housing available, 10-20 immigrants crammed into each house. We have Australian's earning 6 figure incomes sleeping in their cars because there is just no homes available (even if they can afford it). Our governments hate us with a passion.

This is criminal...two sides of the story here i can assume...but both sides are at fault...the tenant is a criminal and the landlord should have done more...put pressure on the landlord and tenants court...the landlord and tenants organization is a joke...no one takes them serious because they have a huge back load of court cases is not an excuse...the government wants more housing with out properly funding the courts and they are costing owners money 3 fold. It's a systematic virus...these figures these landlords quoted do not even include the damage the location has after the entitled criminal tenant leaves behind. If they are criminally charged and convicted i am sure they will be comfortable in a 10 X 8 cell for 2 years with free rent, utilities and 3 square meals a day. Landlord Tenant board is a joke and should be called Tenant Board. Since PC govt came in power two housing minister have made situation worse for small landlords. There are less adjudicators than 6 years ago and applications take upto a year before learning takes place. Even then, any excuse by tenants is tolerated but landlord suffer. I will not invest any more in Ontario. It is a very very bad place and PC govt does not care. I do not know what housing minister does all day. Sad.

For the people supporting the tenant the landlords should stop long term renting altogether. Either Airbnb or sell. There will be reduced rental supply and you can count on government to solve the housing problem.

When you own a home and are renting it out. You are fully responsible for the housing of the tenant. This is the rule in Canada. You want to take on the task of being a landlord then this is what you got to deal with. The rent amount must be so ridiculous that this poor girl can't afford it. ?

Again, being a landlord is a business investment. All investments have risk. Don’t want the risk don’t be a landlord. Housing is a human right.
