It made me really sad to hear stories like this when I went to school. We had 3 Indian students in our class and I became good friends with one of them. He was 16K in debt with the recruiter that sent him here, and was expected to pay for his brothers upcoming wedding. His dad used to be a farmer but he was disabled now so his parents couldnt contribute anything. He worked 3 jobs and lived in a house crammed with 6 international students. He is now back in India and married with a beautiful baby, but I dont know if he has paid down that debt. I worry about him

The police need to be informed, it is a shame this had to happen but may be if you see on the other side of the story the cop was just trying to do his duty and keep everyone safe which also is important after all the shooting and bad things which have happened in USA.

Looking into this All I can say is. I thank God ? Times. My story ?\nWas sold a dream in Indian animation school was cheated badly I cried in corner\nWas cheated \nBut didn't give up. Somehow got a job. \nDoing great in India. But had my dreams like Canada would be great. As salary is more. \nBut now. \n\nI feel I am living like a king enjoying my life here as a Bharatiya. \n\nYes I don't have millions \nBut I have a peace of mind. I have a job which helps me support my family and I get. Good night sleep. I am happy whatever God has given me and I always thank him. Today I just thank double after seeing this one video. The frauds are way bigger and deeper than whats being presented in this documentary. There are consultants and lawyers that work closely with CIC insiders on various kind of fraudulent applications. No one wants to believe it, but it is happening today and it’s a big business. You need to live within an immigrant community to hear the strategies and stories.

That's the story of every international student. Finally, someone reveal this. It's like decide thousand time before going into a system but once we enter, there is no way to go back. But exploitation is always done by Punjabi employers. We suffered plenty of things.

This is not only in Canada, the UK also has the same story but no one takes any video.

If true, this story is heartbreaking for these vulnerable students. And there is trudeau yapping we need more international students, without providing any oversight to protect them from fraud, and deceipt. How be you help the ones already here trudeau? Shame on Canada for their lack of humanitarian empathy.

Why to send students to canada taking so much risk instead let them study in india and search for opportunities in india or elsewhere.Thank you for bringing this story and hope it will be helpful for those who wanna take risk to move to canada.

These students should be sending their sentiments to the CANADIAN GOVERNMENT, not using a reporting outlet to tell Canadians their stories.

Another horror story of 21st century exploitation and greed of people of colour. The past manifesting itself in another way...\n\nI guess Canada CANNOT promote a sweaky-clean international image any more as this EXPLOITATION is silently encouraged to build the robust economy it boasts.

This is more of migration crisis and international students is a loophole. The trade-off is to gain residence and colleges are making money out of it, so are the middle men. Sad story ?. Trust me India ?? has far better education.

Is there a list of all the colleges/universities that are doing this?? Any of them that have dealt with these unregulated agents in India should have all credentials removed from them!!! I know that Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops BC does this as I was a student there and heard of all the stories!! TRU should be closed down!!!

Oh God whata sad n pathetic story...

It's just half story, bigger question is why mostly punjabi students go to Canada, when in India you can earn good and enjoy your family life!!!!! And most of these kids belong to good wealthy family. The real story/reason is something different!!!!

Sad story really, but there are many other international students who get it even worse. At least Indian students speak English, have a very large support community in Canada (where pretty much every other person is from India). I only speak because I know. Try coming to this land with no English and no connections at all ...and from a small country in South America, then you really are in trouble.

I would like to thank CBC Fifth Estate for their initiative to uncover the trauma these students go through. This is only one cornerstone of the story. Fifth Estate need to dig deeper and come up with part 2 to look in to our Federal Government policy regarding issuing Student Visa from India. Why these so called for profit colleges / agencies only targeting students from India and not from any other countries ? The Student VISA process is different for students from other countries. It’s our government who is exploiting these students and playing with their hopes and dreams.

This is truly heartbreaking, I feel so sorry for International Students who came here with dreams but were given something far below that. I am a Canadian born student, brought up and raised in Brampton but I made friends with many international students. I don't understand how International students have to pay 3-4x our tuition, cover their living expenses, and have work restrictions on their study permit. The truth is competion is everywhere and companies are competing for top students who go to credible universites. I don't see how international students are suppose to compete with these students when there is a shortage of high-paying jobs. I truly feel bad. I advise students to tell their stories to their younger siblings and cousins back home and prevent them from living a hard-working life with little reward. Advise them to complete their studies back home and find a job in big cities back home. As a domestic student I struggle to pay for my own expenses and I could not imagine if I did not have my parents support. This is fraud on another level!!!
