The massive explosion in real estate in BC during Covid with rental increases going through the roof. Property taxes went up. No money going into low income infrastructure’s, housing. The Air BNB short term rental property takes away from long term rentals.

Building houses helps nobody who is struggling, they are way too high priced for anyone normal to afford, low income housing is the ticket and they havent increased that proportionally to the need, in decades

It’s simple, mass immigration dilutes the national culture with other cultures that don’t have the time, ability, desire or intention to adapt to the host culture. It effectively causes cultural ghettoing of society which lends itself very well to manipulation by the practitioners of ideologies that dislike traditional national identity and strong historical values. That is, liberal progressive ideologies. That’s in contrast with well-vetted, manageable, and highly controlled immigration from similar or adaptable cultures that increase the chance of successful integration, which is favoured by conservatives, as anyone with a gram of common sense can imagine.

Great perspective! I survive by renting my condo. But even this can be a struggle when you can't find the right tenants. And rising taxes, poor Mayoral leadership, increased random unprovoked crime, the influx of asylum seekers , tent cities. I plan on selling my condo and returning to the caribbean and invest in real estate properties where I gran grow my wealth faster without being taxed to death.

I wonder how many people watching this, realize that the reason that we have such high prices in Canada is that we have a government hell bent on destroying the energy industry. The price of goods is directly related to the cost of energy. When taxes make up more than the actual fuel cost it causes an inflation. When the cost of producing goods is increased by the cost of energy it causes inflation. Inflation caused by government is the number one issue in all western countries. The only way to slow inflation is to vote in governments that will focus on energy and not focus on green agendas.

This is exactly why immigration is a scam run by the Canadian government. This has been happening since 2013 and has increased tremendously since pandemic

What this does is let's employers know that they can fire people whenever they want & never have any wages increases because there are so many people willing to accept this garbage job.

I migrated from the UK and really, things aren't much better at home. That's why i'm sticking it out. London rents are equivalent to Toronto, with a similar average salary. UK taxes also look ok on paper, but wheny you include the hidden stuff it's just as bad as canada. Healthcare also going down the gutter. The only positive the UK has over canada is food is much cheaper and if you are able to work from home, you can live away from big cities and pay much less rent. This huge difference between big cities and towns in the UK doesn't seem to be as noticeable in Canada. For an entire 3 bed house with a garden in the north of england, you could get one for $1000/month easy. But there are no job opportunities there at all, so it really is only for WFHers. But I think these issues are sweeping most of the western world... our economic models are built on infinite growth and can't deal with aging populations with an increasing tax burden.

We don't need more Uber, Skip or cab drivers or pretengineers with Master's degrees from U of Deli or some other unknown school who don't know s**t. Presently we have an unending supply of cheap labor entering the country under the falsehood of 'student' meanwhile wages remain stagnant and the lifestyle quality has dropped. Pay workers higher wages and you will get them. McD's is a sh*t job so it's for school kids to get a taste of where you don't want to be in 10 years. Rents increased for a number of reasons (idiots willing to overpay for something and then pass that on) and one being the market will bear it especially when you have an audience willing to split rent 25 ways. Most real Canadians cannot fathom the idea of 24 roommates...in other parts of the world, this is luxury living, running hot water, foodbanks...you can still afford the tweaked Honda ala stovepipe muffler, tinted windows that make it harder to see people on the inside...yeah safe idea fellas. If u compare the EI last year and this year, u will see significant increase. The number of jobs in public sector sharply increased since 2020, while the productivity declined since 2020. Number of reported bankruptcies escalated sharply after mid 2023 till now. Also consider the extra taxes since 2020. The shift in oil purchase etc..

As an employer in a mid-skill company, late 2021 and pretty much all of 2022 were the worst times for hiring. You legitimately could not find competent people. Things have only gotten slightly better since then.\n\nThe problem is that few of the people they're bringing in can fill anything but low skill, minimum wage jobs. They don't have the education for more, their English language skills are questionable, and they often clash with the culture. And worst of all, they are financially supported by the government which provides the double whammy of increasing tax burden while also increasing product demand, which exacerbates the labour shortage.

This is the goal of capitalism. Import cheap labour, lower worker wages, increase profit. Outsourcing what they can. The goal is always GDP growth over culture preservation.

These students were always supposed to come with enough money to survive. Years ago it was $10,000 & it needs to be increased to at least $20,000 or no entry! Businesses won’t hire Canadians it seems because of the government money they get to hire immigrants. I read constantly about people saying they’ve applied to upwards of 30 jobs and not one reply. I see many homes once occupied by a family go for sale and become an apartment building for students and/or immigrants. So many people going into the homes that traffic increased many times , moving trucks any time of the month (they must rent by day or week?) and they really pack them in. A 4 bedroom home can see 10 people in it, they don't use the driveway, it sits empty in most of the homes that sold for this purpose . They are generally quit and very inconspicuous except for the people in and out all the time with backpacks on. My only complaint is they they move, they trash the furniture on the side of the street for the neighborhood to enjoy until the city picks it up. \n\nThe person owning that home is making bank on the rentals. so I see why they don't want to stop this.

I've been here for 13 years and I'm planning on leaving as well. It was good at first but now things are getting far more expensive than the increase wages.

Arbitrary immigration targets are simultaneously increasing demand and suppressing wage growth. There are better ways to control immigration. I would suggest demand based approach with some guard rails in place. For instance, I would require all educational institutions to provide housing for international student (at least 50%). Businesses should be required to provide accommodation to all temporary/seasonal workers on top of the minimum wage. In order to hire foreigners employers should be required to prove that they are paying enough to afford housing in the region (market cost of accommodation is less than 30% of salary). Accommodation for refugees should be secured before bringing them to the country from around the globe. No accommodation = no permits. It would limit demand and prevent wage suppression.
