I am Canadian, having grown up in Canada. I left for the States in 1998, after securing a green card and have no desire to return. Canada offered me nothing except unemployment, debt, and cold weather. Good riddance. It is very difficult to find work and housing in Canada. Education is a joke, because your degree does not guarantee you a career or the job you desire. The Canadian government has a historical record of offering citizenship to immigrants with false promises. Shame on this corrupt, self-serving, money-hungry Government. When I was growing up, one in 1000 people were non-white. Then the floodgates opened to nontraditional countries and multiculturalism was born. The Canadian culture I knew and grew up with was gone. Everyone is suddenly from somewhere else. Canada really has no culture. I don't even visit my family. They come to me! Good riddance Canada. Immigrants beware! You may be better off where you came from.

Lived in Canada for 23 years. Immigrated to Vancouver as a child with no choice. So I have seen the trend from the very beginning. This country to going towards a horrible place. Extremely corrupt and socialist. Let’s put it this way. \nIf you have extremely rich parents, this is a good place for you. \nIf you have help from someone, lets say 500k minimum start up money, you can live a normal life. \nIf you need to scramble from nothing. Stuff Americans do or have that is totally different from Canadians. \n1. Americans put their macaroni & cheese in the oven, Canadians just cook it over the stove in a pot and stir in the seasoning after \n2. Americans have to pay a whole lot of money for their medications, in Canada it's mostly covered \n3. Americans talk with a weird slang dependin on which part their from, in Canada its plain english or french. (but nothing like the UK english at all) \n4. Americans don't make their poutine fries properly, in Canada its done the finest \n5. Americans have access to some of the best shopping malls in the world, Canada has to basically get everything shipped from there at extra cost.\n6. Americans well a good majority of the states can open carry firearms, in Canada that is completely illegal (but you could have a hunting rifle or crossbow if the RCMP license you to)\n7. Americans federal system is the FEDS and the ATF (correct me if i'm wrong), in Canada its the RCMP. (an NO they do not ride horses everywhere.)\n8. Americans have a much warmer weather all year around, in Canada its freezing most of the year and only get 3 ~ 4 months of warm weather.\n9. Americans well mostly in New York they have awesome chopped cheese sandwiches and cheesesteaks, in Canada you could never find that at Subway.\n10. Americans have Target, Chik-Fil-A, and Walgreens, in Canada we have Tim Hortons, Mary Browns, and Shoppers Drug Mart.

No reasonably intelligent , thinking Canadian, says that healthcare is “free”. So stop misleading people. The actual truth is that healthcare in Canada is covered by the taxation system and is “ universal” meaning every citizen is covered for most services and for necessary treatments and surgeries. Elective procedure such as having a boob job , for the most part are not covered, nor should they be. Furthermore, most thinking people acknowledge that the system is not perfect, and is often strained by those irresponsible people who abuse it. Higher taxes are the price we pay to feel confident that in the event of necessary hospitalization or treatment, we need not fear financial ruin and or bankruptcy as is quite common in the US for example. Nothing is free unless you believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. Think before you speak.

okay, i'm gonna play the devil's advocate.... based on my experience of living and working in 2 cities of the East - Dubai and Delhi, i can say for sure that Canada is light years better than these cities ..... if ur worried about high costs in Canada, Dubai will scare the living daylights out of you. Dubai has a very unstable economy, absolutely no chance of saving, and no free government services. So in case you are diagnosed with a serious medical conditions may god be with you. I loved staying in Delhi while growing up, got some valuable life lessons, but for a working class person Delhi is nothing short of hell.

Don't move to Canada, I have been living in Canada for 10 years now from the states and Canada is nothing but a communist country full of backstabbers and cowards. I'm leaving soon.

Hello everyone...I've been to Canada, and back in South Africa, a failed immigrant,I'm a finance professional. The country is inviting thousands especially from the subcontinent so they bring and burn all their savings in Canada. Its not about how hard it is or how quickly you can get into Canada. Its about what you will do there. There are simply not enough jobs for skilled educated workers , its ok for meat cutters and other blue collar jobs who have nothing to lose,but not for qualified professionals. It's a harsh, unwelcoming country where Ex professionals from India end up driving taxis. My advice...if you are a professional degreed worker in India, Please do NOT move to Canada unless you have a confirmed job offer or have done your research. Do your math about salary vs. Living expenses. Good luck. Don't jump into a lake if you can't swim...

I think the problem in Canada, and its the Government of course, is they are doing what they may ridicule other countries of doing, and that is cheap labour and more revenue. The people who built this country would be rolling over their graves if they new what this country of Canada is doing today. That is why if you notice they open the doors hugely and manly for Asian cultures. They promote immigration by using opportunity for a better life, then they make people struggle because they cant not even afford a home. They rely on all this housing and condo development to fill them with larger families for more taxes and revenue while they people next to nothing. Canada DOES NOT SUPPORT its own industrial and manufacturing growth and small business because its much cheaper to have everything made in China which support foreign slave labour. Sometimes I feel ashamed ro be Canadian, however I like to say I am proud to be OLD SCHOOL CANADIAN.

I'm a Canadian, and can comfortably state that Canada's reputation was cemented in the early seventies, and anyone choosing to come here based on that reputation, does so under false pretences. The majority of the immigrants I have come into contact with quickly become disillusioned with Canada, and eventually feel compelled to leave. The cost of living, combined with a lack of opportunities, and low wages, means that leading a normal life here is largely out of the question. Crime is a huge problem in BC, as Vancouver has become the de facto money laundering centre for North America. As a result, Canada is now extremely attractive for all the wrong reasons. At present, Canada is experiencing internal mass migration patterns driven by economic necessity, as the cost of living is prohibitively expensive in most urban centres. There is also a corresponding mass migration pattern of those who were born here away from the major cities, as Canada now lets in 500K, largely unvetted, immigrants into the country each year, most of whom are from war-ravaged, or third world, countries. With so many disparate languages and cultures from all over the world, it makes life utterly chaotic. The different nationalities never mix, and there is no effort expended to integrate with the Canadians who were born here. The Chinese live in Richmond, the East Indians in Surrey, and they have NOTHING to do with each other. Having traveled abroad, it's shocking how primitive it is in Canada. My advice to anyone thinking of coming here: Would you buy a ticket for a cruise on a ship that has a massive hole under the waterline?

Canada is what you make of it. You can arrive rich and end up poor and you can arrive poor and end up rich. In between that, you can have a great life that balances your needs. I’ve seen immigrants succeed simply because they see the opportunity in front of them . They worked hard in their own counties to stay just above the poverty line ,but when they apply that same effort here it pays off ten times greater. I feel that compared to a lot of immigrants, natural born Canadians come across as spoiled and a little lazy…we are. We haven’t had to struggle the same way someone from a poorer country might have. I’ve talked to people who’ve worked ten to twelve hours a day just to stay afloat. If you did that here you could make plenty of money to live and have some left over. As far as owning a house goes,yes it’s expensive . I feel that homeownership in any country is relatively expensive. Here is a tip; use that soaring home prices to your advantage. Houses are expensive but you can make a lot of money buying and selling. I recommend putting together a buyers group and share the house for a few years, then sell at a profit, buy a bigger house or two smaller houses.try to buy the worst house in the best neighbourhood and fix it up slowly . That house could double in value in five or six years in the Toronto market. This is nothing new of course ,the people from India and China seem to do this a lot here ,it drives up prices and profits. On the downside to this ,you are now part of the problem. As the housing prices are driven up the non wealthy can no longer afford to own a house . They are at the mercy of high rents with no rewards of ownership. They are caught in a cycle of hard work and (relative)poverty. This could also be you if you can’t keep up the house payments and are forced to rent.\nHow well you speak English is important but your native language is also useful here because Canada is half immigrants . As a Canadian that speaks only english (Irish descent)I have to say to all newcomers that I’m very impressed that you have learned a new language and that you may even speak more than two! Don’t be embarrassed about your abilities . I find that in my experience , Canadians do not look down on people just because they don’t know English. In fact ,I’ve known people that have lived here for decades and still know very little English. They are comfortable in their communities and they function just fine. Learn as much English as suits your needs and be proud of any gains you make.\nOutside of Toronto are other cities that you might consider when looking at southern Ontario.From my experience,most are generally the same, just not as big . There are large immigrant communities in London Ontario, Hamilton and just outside of Toronto where housing is just a little bit less expensive but the commute to work is probably longer. This is just my opinion but in the small towns there are less people of colour , (which is what people of no colour call everyone else . I wonder if I’m called a person of no colour in some other culture ? LoL ). That might make it harder for you to feel integrated ,if that’s what you want. I’m not saying that people from other cultures can’t make it in a small town , I’m just saying that it’s definitely not Toronto . Here, people of any nationality can feel like they have a place where they can belong . It seems that no matter where you are from ,there is a community already here that’s set up restaurants and stores and clothing shops and newcomer support systems. And if your from Portugal or China or India or Africa or the Middle East, there are large groups of your kin here that have established roots for generations and you probably know this already.\nToronto means meeting place and that becomes evident quickly. I was born here and it’s one of the things I love the most about my city. I’m not going to say that there isn’t systemic racism here ,the people of no colour still kind of keep the top position , but as we become a minority in a decade or so ,I hope that will shift to a broader spectrum. It’s certainly happening already. One good thing is that the police department tries to hire people of colour so that racialism may play a smaller role. We’re getting used to seeing our politicians more and more reflect their constituents.\nI have to talk about the weather. Because I’m from here I’m used to the extremes of minus thirty and plus thirty . Eventually you get used to it (somewhat). Dressing in the right clothes is important. Summer is easy , but winter is different. It’s trying to kill you. Spend the most that you can afford on winter cloths . If you can afford a quality parka you should get one. The hood can be drawn around the face and stay out of the wind.\nIf not ,think of layers with a outer layer that blocks the wind. We have things called long Johns that are basically full length thick cotton or nylon pants that go on under your pants and a pair of extra thick socks. Buy your boots to fit your thick socks. Try to get the best boots you can afford ,it’s something that you might spend a little extra for but never regret.\nAll in all we are a fairly organized and peaceful society. Most people are friendly and will give you a chance . We have a good social safety net here and you don’t have to be homeless or starving if you don’t want to. There are people and organizations set up to help ,that truly try to get people back on their feet. It’s a good investment that pays off in ways that matter for the quality of life in a big city. I’m not putting my American neighbours down when I say they do things differently. They have their ways ,we have ours. This is just something that we do because we’re trying to learn how to help those that society has discarded or can’t find their place. Sure we have one or two areas where the homeless have pitched tents and we have some resources for them if they want. Unfortunately The mayor recently forced a small camp to move from a very visible place to more scattered locations. There were social workers involved as well as protesters trying to protect them. I didn’t like that happening and I want to see even more resources dedicated to them ,but on the other hand ,we are trying to avoid something like what happens on the streets when it’s just ignored. When I see YouTube videos of the streets of Philadelphia I’m extremely saddened. I thank the lucky stars that I was born in Toronto Canada.\nFor all it’s pollution and expense and crowds ,I think it’s a great place to do almost anything your heart desires . For every ugly building there is a beautiful park ,for every honked horn there is a birds call , for every cold and dark day there is beautiful sunny one around the corner.

All illegals do think and say Canada gives asylum. Permanent Residence, benefits and that Canada will pay people to live in Canada... I just agree and smile...you can't tell illegals nothing they got human rights ..

Nothing against Canada and Canadians. But I left Canada after living there for almost 10 years because I never felt home living there and I was unhappy. You can live 50 years in Canada and get the Canadian citizenship but you will not be Canadian as your soul doesn't belong there. Your culture, language, family and everything is not part of Canadian culture. I missed Japan so bad that I gave up every thing that I had, sold my small condo and went back to my home country. Now I feel that I'm at the place where I belong and never should have left.

CANADA is like everything in life for example when you go to buy groceries at the supermarket or Walmart you can find several brands of bread, pasta, salsa etc some are better than other. Some people like the cheapest other the expensive ones others do not care. In summary there is not a perfect country AND NOTHING IS FREE. Live is full of trade offs. My advise make sure you live where you feel well, if you do not feel comfortable just move out.

Canada has lots of programs allowing you to immigrate ‘easily’, but in my case Ircc simply lost my file and there’s absolutely nothing I can do about that. Some pll are lucky some are not, but the whole immigration process here is a chaos

It's so funny for international media, Canada - Toronto .. there is so much more to Canada then just Toronto ! .. Ohh yeah you will say Montreal but still Toronto and Montreal is only 10% Canada ... If you want to see real beautiful Canada go west to places like Vancouver, Banff Calgary,. Whistler .. beautiful serene mountains and wilderness or even far east to the Maritimes .. Reminded me of when I immigrated to Canada 21 years ago with 8 years of back home experience, still I had to wait for 5 long years during which I went to school twice to get into my field here, and countless times thought about moving back, but once stepped into my field here those thoughts went away. Speaking of taxes, I don't read my pay stubs in much detail, I'm happy as long as I'm able to pay my bills. Canadian Healthcare system doesn't pamper too much, but it's a great blessing in serious emergencies, I and my family experienced several times getting health services worth of several thousands of dollars and ending up paying nothing, so can't complain. At the end Canada is a great country and a great place to live!

It is such a shame that follow Asians and even American Natives play such a role in perpetuating racism against African descent people, but I guess they have their issues of identity. Real shame nonetheless, but one thing at the time, we still have a bigger hurdle to overcome.\n \nOf course, it is still not easy to be a black woman, man or child today. That should not be so difficult to calculate. We're faced with higher mortality and disease rates, covid 19 has rubbed that to our eyes, care systems medical world is in less favour and neglect black communities. Like dude I was born in Canada and my parents are immigrints who came legally so I can tell you my side. A non biast side. Since I live and work here I can tell u most people of colour r welcoming, however most people who are here and have trouble finding work dont wanna see more people come and make it harder like texas and arizonia. Canada is the USA.'s younger sibling who got coddle by their overbearing parent England. The USA is the eldest sibling who rebelled against the overbearing parent England, and left home a long ago time ago, swearing that it would be nothing like England was. Because Canada recently had a chance to leave and had a better relationship with parent England, it picked up some good qualities, while being influenced by its older sibling the USA who was also like a parent and definitely a cultural role model given its proximity and age. Nonetheless, no matter how hard the USA tries to deny it, it kept some features from England as well. After all three countries have a history of racism that England passed down. They were all abusive and racist.

I think we need to come close to each as one humanity. We should at least talk and explore those all different skin colors men and women. Not all of them are bad. My parents came to Canada as teenagers, and they are non-European immigrants. The kindest and most compassionate people Ive ever met and im not saying that because im their son but because its true, im nothing like them anymore. Being born and raised in Canada I have NEVER felt like this is my home or that I belong/am welcomed here.

There’s a common saying which states that the difference between Canadians and Americans is that “while Americans side with their fellow citizens against the government, Canadians side with their government against their fellow citizens.” This is stereotype is the best explanation as to why Canada can’t see to develop a viable market economy or compete with other nations on innovations in STEM or the arts. The problem with Canada is that it never developed a culture outside of “not being American” and the result is that their government has been allowed to grow to an enormous size and basically strangle all of the talent out of the country. Canada, despite the fact that it’s an English speaking country on the North American continent, is virtually nothing like America is any sense of the term, and actually has more in common with Scandinavia than it does with the country that borders it’s south.

Every one of these illegals will cause problems in Canada for years to come. They are already breaking the law on day one. And they will cost billions of dollars in social services in their lifetimes, and contribute nothing that poor Canadians cannot do themselves.
