It seems like there is a small percentage of really bad tenants AND also really bad landlords creating awful policies that ruin it for the large percentage of good tenants and good landlords. Every time I read the news there are horror stories from the point of view of renters BUT also horror stories from the point of view of landlords (like in this case). How can the whole system be so completely broken for both sides? It's crazy lol.

I've been a landlord for many years, I've been through a few very bad tenants, out of 8 houses i rent out 7 have fantastic tenats, the one thats always late and is running down my property I've tried to evict for 5 years but he then catches up with rent and cleans up the yard and the cycle starts agian! I would say in my 20 years renting that only a very small percentage are bad but they can couse you alot of grief and money!

The stuff you can do in non-commercial Rental and Leasing is mind boggling. IF the government likes these free loader and law breakers why not do the same thing in the commercial rental??? Its because the government is simply incompetent. Giving safe heaven to these bad apples out there!

Renting is the worst business in Canada. And the Toronto, Ontario and Canada Governements wonder why there is shortage of rental accommodations. I can easily accommodate one family in my home. But I know if there is an epidemic like Covid and the tenant does not pay the rent, I will be screwed. And rather than have a plan that can enable a tenant own a home, the Governments mentioned have plans that will make the landlord bankrupt and become a tenant! The tenancy laws are bad, bad, bad!

Funny how people think they can just hog up all the homes, not live in them, sit around, do nothing, and somehow that's contributing to society. Well now this bad tenant is doing the same thing to those people and those people are mad?

I have been travelling to Canada..its feel like I am in India particular north india..its smell so bad..even on airport i see all indian working there..i hardly see any native canadian?????..

Good lesson any non payment file soon as possible with a paralegal like my case I waited 16 months to evict a bad tenant but I have over 20 tenants multiple properties 99 percent tenant i have and had very good tenants

Trust me if the Government owned the property they would freeze the bank accounts of the Tenant and have them removed . When its a citizen its too bad for them. Things have to change. Give a 3 month of no paying after that they should be removed

Landlord Tenant board is a joke and should be called Tenant Board. Since PC govt came in power two housing minister have made situation worse for small landlords. There are less adjudicators than 6 years ago and applications take upto a year before learning takes place. Even then, any excuse by tenants is tolerated but landlord suffer. I will not invest any more in Ontario. It is a very very bad place and PC govt does not care. I do not know what housing minister does all day. Sad.

Thanks to Doug Ford there is more investors than landlord, the difference is both is using the system to cash in, investors people who is having more than one property is using the system Ford implemented to have tenants pay their mortgage while people are struggling. investors is greed is causing the problem giving tenants a bad name

You know for a fact this clown owns about 12 more condos in the same building, all being financed from India and all the money headed back to India. Their livelihoods are threatened. \n\n(5) Future care of the old: the more people we add now, the more people we will have to take care of later, when their working lives are done. Adding immigrants now to pay for the care of the old is therefore a pyramid scheme. Eventually, in a generation or two, the population of the world is set to decline, and the well of immigrants will run dry. Canada should aim for fewer, rather than more, retirees – as preparation for that coming moment.

Great assessment. My wife left Vancouver 22yrs ago. It was bad then and has only gotten worse. Sadly the residents would rather smoke a joint than vote for a conservative govt and attend a church. Forget about GOD can't be surprised when he forgets about you. That said Australia is not much better and getting worse by the day. The reason govts love immigrants is because they bring money in and are obivious to the local politics so the govts simply continue to introduce more and more corrupt policies every year. Even after they become citizens they remained divided on political thought because they tend to have a duality of mindset which says, if it all goes bad I will go back to where I came from. I am from Poland, a country which is attacked by weaponized migrants. We have never invaded anyone, or been bad to anyone. We've been the victim throughout the last 200 years. We've clawed our way to prosperity very slowly but diligently, and now we are expected to just allow everyone into our country, without them respecting our history, language and traditions. We are a monoethnic society, and thanks to that we are one of the safest countries in Europe. And it will stay that way. Not a single illegal migrant will cross our border, and Poland will never change into a migrant hellhole like the UK or France. I got laid off 5 weeks ago ( no renewal of contract).. after 7 years working for that NFP.. I applied for snap and unemployment… while applying for jobs( social worker field)… first, they ask for so many documents… including my bank account….( again I was laid off .. not fired nor left my job, nor finding reasons not to work all those years ), department of labor had a mandated zoom meeting to discuss what I needed to do 4 weeks after I was laid off( like i don’t know)… I ve been working for years and paying taxes… a lot of them in NYC, I was also told that I have to show what I am doing to search for work and eventually should take a job( even if the salary is low..ridiculous)… I was also informed that I may get a call from investigator from DOL..they may call individuals receiving unemployment benefits($441 a week after taxes?)… to verified that I was searching and applying for jobs( even though I enter my activities related to work weekly on their website…..)….. meanwhile… people with 0 legal documentation are entering the US and living here, free snap, free housing, free health insurance!!!! Lala land!!!! Can’t wait for this non sense to stop!!! Every corner of NY , you see families begging for money. Food…I feel bad as a human being, but refuse to help or I ll be joining them too… welfare system needs to change too! The politics NEED to change!!!All the best !

Thanks to immigrants Canada has survived this long. Immigrants bring in much needed dollars and skills that locals don’t have. Further, immigrants are the hard working people unlike the ‘locals’ who rather than work two jobs to make ends meet, sit back and complain how bad things are. \nIf you haven’t guessed, I’m an immigrant too and have been in Canada for the past 24 years. I have contributed to the coffers and have not taken any money out from it for the past 24 years!

Because Canada under Trudeau had very bad immigration policy. Canadians are not against immigration. They are against mass low skilled immigration that we don't have the resources to absorb.

Same here in Australia, too much immigration is bad for Australians and also for immigrants. And im also an immigrant.

We just need to stop immigration at least for now , and the work visas and permits ect.. we need to let our country heal for a few years. That's how badly Trudeau messed things up.

No matter where you live in Canada we are bombarded with American News so we can see all the bad things that happen in the US. Canadian news is designed to be more of an informative format whereas American News is much more sensationalized so we don't always get to see through the crap! I would agree that much of the USA is quite safe but the reality is that anyone wanting to move from Canada to the USA is more likely to find their best opportunities in larger urban centers where all these concerns become far more real.

first i am an immigrant for 20 years. i see the problem has been rising. \nthe problem is not just immigrant, its the overseas students also. Gov try to solve the issue but they are doing it blindly. the problem are those small schools that focus on making school as a business and let people get working visa. \nwe need doctors and nurses so badly. why cant we take more doctors and nursing, have universities specifically train then. we can also have golden visa and wealthy immigrants to come in . we dont just need cheap labour, we also need money. \n\ni cant wait for next election to vote this gov out!

Apartments in my building have doubled in price in the last 5 years... DOUBLED. We were full with a waiting list last year, but this year the whole wing I live on is empty, except for a few suites. Pretty obvious that either people cannot afford to move in OR there isn't a housing crisis as bad as they want us to believe anymore... which one is it though?
