Uncontrolled growth is an issue. When we let corporations dictate the things in society that we NEED without taking a step back to plan so that their greed doesn't overrun us all, we get what we have now. Corporations and politicians are behind this.

As an American I watched because I wanted a realistic perspective of the issues with immigration from a place that typically loves immigration. I completely agree with the Daniel Bernhard that the real issue (including the US) is the laws and policies put in place that don't allow for what should be a natural growth of the population. Questions should be asked like Why do we not have enough housing, jobs, healthcare, etc. The cost of everything going up is not singularly the fault of immigrants, and stopping immigration will NOT solve those problems.

Well my house to taken over by convicts and out of compassion me and my wife gave them our house, as we didn’t know how absurd the laws are to evict a bad tenant.\n\nI being helpless called police and email PM helpline , housing minister, but nothing happened till 4 months, they destroyed my property, and still owe me 14k rent plus utilities, excluding the damages and property mess they created. \n\nWe were terrified , they had two big rescues dogs and would threat us if we come to ask for house check or rent , they would release the dogs on us. \n\nI still have tenant body order for money claim, but my family suggested to leave and move on . But then i think , they would do the same with what ever place they try to move.\n\nWhy would government not spare out property tax or give the home owner the loss of property amount. \n\nYou miss the tax the government pr bank come after you with all the forces. \n\nIts like the house crises , the government want to say , let the stupid home owners eradicate that issue and them let they suffer from the bad tenants abuse the so called tenant laws. \n\nI know my family had to go through.

Canada needs immigrants who want to become Canadian....Who share Canadian values. Some groups seem to have an issue with integration and shared values, take a guess!

I like multiculturalism and this country is founded on immigration. But we need to put cap on each country when receiving them so to maintain the balance of good mix.\n\nI get bothered why this guy statistically divide white vs others. In the end this land belongs to the indigenous people none of us. \n\nAnyways, most of my friends from Western Europe, Japan, Korea and Singapore - first world nations, have already moved back after couple of years of living here. Look at Gardiner- it's constantly on construction mode. Hire more surgeons and make better family doctor system. This government only legalized marijuana and brought more problems. We used to live near Trinity bellwood and the park is now filled with used needles. \n\nAs for homelessness, it's always been there and it got worse during economic depression (2008 mortgage crisis) and current prime rate/inflation situation. Even if you study stats from government subsidized housing, most immigrants work and get out of help but the old immigrants (whites) usually don't flip out of the situation for generations. So there is no reason to tie and blame the Indians for our old problem of homeless population. Stay on point and stop tying it down with non-related issues.

Were having trafficking issues here in Northern Maine too, and a couple young teens going missing, strange thing a lot of romanians have been getting caught at the border coming in from Canada!

Immigration is a HUGE issue , surtout from India. I moved to Quéebec, who at one point wanted their identity to remain francophone, we have Indian immigrants on Québec like I was In Toronto, or Bramladesh, Québec used to immigrate people spoke the language, or had the likelyhood to adopt the culture. Haiti, Africa, France, etc.. however, Inia immigrants have ( majority ) no intention to speak french.... and yes housing crisis , needs for doctors and more..

Whenever we see these stories reported in the media. The folks affected are always small-market landlords. We NEVER hear about what the larger property management companies are going through or how THEY handle these issues.. Why is that?

While I can't speak for Canada, I will say that in the U.S. the issue with immigration has been the insistence from immigrants that we accept their culture while ours is ignored.

I'm a Canadian citizen. And I think it's the time when Canadian & US governments must think to build a border wall on the Northern border. I hate these illegal Aliens sneaking in Canada & then in the US. Offcours these illegal immigrants are being a reason for damaging the local labor market wages. And are continuous burden on Both countries economy & tax payers. I see our governments look extremely helpless in dealing with this growing issue. I wish Donald Trump would become the US next president. No doubt he will adapt to the serious measures to stop these illegal buggers.

bro thought being a landlord is a money farm. the girl is in the wrong for sure but we need her side of the story to fully understand the situation. perhaps she's doing what my friend had to just to finally get the attention from the landlord to solve issues in the building. my friend had to go 8 months not paying his rent (keeping that money separately to please lawyers) just so a landlord would get in contact with him about his apartment ceiling caving in forcing the dudes family to live out of their living room. this landlord just wants to retire, i bet the building has major issues thats being ignored.

Most jurrisdictions in North America treat rent as a civil issue while if one walked into a bank or a store and stole $2000, the full weight of the law would fall on them. A few US states have turned rent theft and squating as a criminal matter, which is what the provinces should do. Both tenants and owners need protections, and quite frankly, tenants need owners to provide them with a place to rent. The tenants act protects tenants from criminal owners, more is required to protect owners from criminal tenants.

Man I love reading the comments in this video! We also face a similar challenge in other countries that housing is a crisis and governments keep bringing in all sorts of immigrants, from refugees to highly skilled people (like myself). I have switched 5 cities and the story either gets more worse or less worse. Half a year searching for a decent apartment? Some search for years! It's a full time job. The government gets back to my request after many months! Foreigners offices are packed with applications and citizenship is taking years long now. Getting a doctor appointment (psychological issues) within a year is hard, unless you pay from pocket or are in grave danger. We are being squeezed in here and they started new loose immigration policies to be more attractive to foreigners. Address the quality of life at the same time!

Yall are coming to canada and we are trying to get out. You are not doing yourself a favour by coming here, this is not the same country it was years back. People here have become more american; rude, disrespectful, overly egotistical, our streets arent safe anymore, car thefts at an all time high and no one talks about the amount of random acts of violence coming from the homeless in my area, housing prices surging YoY by atleast 11%/year. Cost of living has increased 4-10x on certain things in the grocery stores. This is criminal...two sides of the story here i can assume...but both sides are at fault...the tenant is a criminal and the landlord should have done more...put pressure on the landlord and tenants court...the landlord and tenants organization is a joke...no one takes them serious because they have a huge back load of court cases is not an excuse...the government wants more housing with out properly funding the courts and they are costing owners money 3 fold. It's a systematic virus...these figures these landlords quoted do not even include the damage the location has after the entitled criminal tenant leaves behind. Also this is not a mental heath issue, its just a plain purposely planned out criminal act. If they are criminally charged and convicted i am sure they will be comfortable in a 10 X 8 cell for 2 years with free rent, utilities and 3 square meals a day. They need the back log dealt with and a special team to police this industry.

Do such issues occur for apartment rentals managed by property management companies? Is it better to hire such companies so that we do not have to deal with tenants directly by giving them commissions?

We need services, housing, infrastructure. All this privatization and neoliberal (not the same as liberal) approaches which remove the system social safety net this is the outcome. Hating on immigrants is not where our minds need to go, looking at many of the issues outlined in this video is an important perspective to consider. It is policy that needs rethinking. And if you think Pierre or the Conservatives have the answers, unfortunately they do not, Pierre jusr jumps on the populist far right bandwagon, without talking frankly about some of the issues outlined in the video or in my commentary. We need new bold solutions. Practical immigration policies can play a part, but without addressing housing affordability as well as stagnant polarized wages and a lack of opportunities and upward mobility for millennials and immigrants, nothing will change.

The same issue is playing out in Australia, and surveys have shown 70% of Australians believe immigration is too high. \n\nIt's almost like doing something without the will of the people, that is eroding culture and living standards and driving up property prices, will lead to a backlash! \n\nMust be racism I guess!

The thing is most of the people I know looking to leave or are bothered the most by the massive amount of immigrants or “students” are 1st generation Canadians with Indian or Asian parents. I really don’t think this is even a racial issue, it’s the fact Canada has these bogus colleges that accept basically unlimited amounts of foreign students, it’s pretty obvious they’re not here solely to study but to stay.

This country has plummeted drastically this past decade. The immigration is absolutely ridiculous. Doesn't matter from where. This problem won't be solved until the Baby Boomer generation has passed away, but that will also cause issues too. We need to focus on our own before accepting others in. Immigration has become an epically pivotal subject globally and yet it’s presented as a source of political ideology oppose to basic human dignity that without the promise of greener pastures where someone can start over and experience what other people experience, their greeted by border barb wire and intolerance, deportation, not to mention the perils of traveling choppy waters on insufficient crafts. People are fighting each other without realizing that the real problem has always been the growing capital accumulation since the 1960s, which has led first-world countries to face this issue nowadays. Most politicians don't want people to stand up against the wealthy, better to have an easy target than to face the actual problem.\n Eat the rich!

I keep thinking that people will smarten up but in fact it continues to get worst.
