In general, most of the claims are invalid in their roots. There, Canada is compared to different, cherry-picked countries, without any understanding of “WHY those differences exists”.\n\nCouple examples: \n- internet is more expensive(than in some countries) because of low density of population and enormous areas to cover.\n- “waiting lists” for medical procedures are to balance healthcare spendings(from taxes) with the real need in those: if your condition is urgent, you’ll get everything you need instantly.\n- tax system is, in fact, one of the best in the world: it pushes awareness and responsibility to Canadians, while in the same time keeping most of it on businesses(employers) and allowing great flexibility in tax deduction/returns.\n\nAnd so on and so forth…

I was born and raised on the east coast of Canada, lived in Vancouver and visited Montréal Edmonton, Calgary with the acception of Winnipeg I’ve seen every major city in Canada. \n\nI will always have pride for my country and love for my family there but it has changed dramatically since 2010.\n \nI will say the transportation in Canadian cities are better and so is the crime and the food but you have to drive a minimum of an hour to get anywhere outside the city, your not leaving that city without a car and good luck surviving without a car outside the city, and VIA rail is way overpriced. The GO train is nice though.\n\nLiving in America it has changed a lot since covid too though people are a lot more desperate and you can feel it but people are too prideful to admit, where in Canada people are struggling and they dress and look terrible and fail to dress nice because there is less prideful.\n\nCanadians are not nice people they are passive aggressive and will not got out of their way to help you most of the time (modern day) kind of like Californians.\nThe east coast Americans are rude and trashy but they will help you if you show respect. There just no fun to be around mostly ? overall North Americans are chauvinistic.\n\nJobs are harder to get in Canada and opportunity isn’t there, but it is very relaxed.\nAmerica is overcrowded and stressful especially for a Canadian.\nMontréal is cheap rent great food, and being personally bilingual I like the French, but there infrastructure is terrible and the people are depressed and disgustingly rude and they have no customer service.\n\nVancouver is overpriced in every way possible, beautiful city, great seafood but it’s not worth the price tag, you would be better of living in a San Francisco, the crime in Richmond and burnaby and new Westminster and hasting street is just as bad as San Francisco’s tenderloin.\n\nToronto is big and fun yet it doesn’t feel Canada at all, it feels like it’s been hijacked by American and foreign companies. It’s beautiful but lots of rats and bad traffic. People are relatively nicer there but it’s still expensive like New York.\nCalgary is very pretty probably my favorite, it’s just cold AF and kinda pricey. Probably perfect for families.\nEdmonton is flat and boring but I like it’s proximity to Calgary ?\nOverall it’s one of the best countries to live in the west but if you like fast paced, opportunity, diversity, traveling and are rich enough for elite education then come to America. Lastly Canada is a democracy so bills can be passed faster but that can also be a bad thing if you have a courrupt gov’t, cough cough trudeau.\nAmerica is a republic so it is harder to pass laws which can suck but it is also harder for people like uncle joe to overreach. Overall in America you are more free but in Canada you are more at peace. \n\nI’ve lived in America for six years and moved here at 20yrs so this is just my experience.

The average American has a higher median income and higher disposable income with lower than the average Canadian. I mean there’s a reason why there’s a much higher rate of Canadians migrating south then Americans going up north. \n\nBy the way Trudeau is a much bigger clown than Biden, that man’s hypocrisy is truly astonishing.

I am not going to lie the food and general cost of goods thing in being higher didn't make sense to me. I live in NY state by the border and I saw a lot of Canadians coming to the states for shopping general goods pre-covid.\n\nWould always hear about how clothes and other goods are so much cheaper in the US. That's with NY state taxes which are considered higher than most places in the US.\n\nYou can go down south for 3 dollars get a big ass burger fries and a drink.\n\nThat being said it doesn't really matter when a visit to the hospital cost any where from a down payment on a apartment to a down payment on a mansion.

I’m American and when I was a kid I went through a phase where I only wanted to watch Canadian shows. Degrassi, My Goldfish is Evil, 6Teen, Total Drama Island, Ed Edd n Eddy, Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, Big Comfy Couch, Life with Derek, etc. Whenever I would see that Canadian logo in the credits I’d get so excited. And I live in Metro Detroit so all the time I was making my parents drive me to Canada on weekends and we’d hang out in Windsor. Dad thought my brother and I would get drafted. \n\nHealth care sucks for different reasons. The horror stories I can tell you that I'm STILL going through here in Canada is insane. \n\nLived in Texas just outside austin south/east going towards Lockhart. Different breed of human beings down that way. I loved Austin. Great food, good people. Though my dad caught shit because his parents Sicilian. Dude is a little less brown than aba. People thought he was Mexican. \n\nOther than Slag hills. Loved Pennsylvania. \n\nFlorida.. its Florida. Lived in Daytona. Too young at the time to have fun. I hated it but might have been better if I wasn't 10. \n\nI dunno. Ask me anything about both. I miss a lot about America. Dislike and like a lot about Canada. SO true about the tap water, lol! I've lived in 3 Texas cities, LA, SF, Oklahoma and Ohio, but the ONLY place of those that had even remotely decent water was SF (and IN the city... the surrounding areas still sucked). Then I moved to Edmonton and lived in 5 different buildings and the water was great everywhere. My fellow Edmontonians beg to differ, but they don't' know what they got. But then I moved to the country and my well water is horrific. :( So we fill up jugs of water at my kid's place in the city haha!\n\nLegit, the best thing about moving up here though is the healthcare. One thing people don't think about is not only do you save on your actual doctor visits, but you save month to month as well. YES, you pay for it with your taxes, but I've found that my taxes here are almost exactly break-even with mine in California, and now I don't have to pay out of pocket for my insurance in addition. Not to mention for the same taxes overall things like roads, registries (dmv), and pretty much everything else the government does is more efficient and better. \n\nMain thing I miss from the US day-to-day is 1: food. Outside of Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, you don't get much good variety. 2: good speeds and affordable f'ing internet. Canadian internet is EXPENSIVE as FACK and not overly fast compared to pretty much every other first world nation.

Some of this is unfair comparing the biggest cities here to Toronto. Wildly different densities and whatnot. Even the climate influences things. \n\nThat being said, if you want to see what Aba and Preach are talking about then visit Niagara Falls. Start on the American side during the day time for safety, then check out the Canadian side at your leisure.

Canada big ups. Definitely, when I have been to the states, the racial segregation was one of the biggest surprises. Being from Toronto, you'll legit have every culture within 1 floor of 1 apartment building. Then go to like Jersey, and not see a single black person in an entire neighborhood. I REALLY like the diversity of Canada, at least in the big cities. Happy to be raising our daughter here, we actually went out of our way to ensure the daycare we put her in was pretty diverse. \nNow, in our small towns, shit gets a little.... Like, we all get old and sick at some point. You DO get that money back with the healthcare you receive eventually, and in the long run, pay less per capita than places with private healthcare. They are a world leader in making entertaining shit. But besides that... y'all ain't so great. Your good, y'know, top tier in terms of countries. But not better in most ways than other first world countries. Worse in a few. Canada isn't perfect, but you don't see Canadians constantly claiming to be better than everyone else. America has better-looking Women due to their population size but Canadian women have better attitudes and generally are more Educated. If you are a semi-educated man with no EGO who is looking for a well-rounded woman then the Canadian woman is for you. If you are a man just looking for eye candy or just something shallow for a good time with no desire or care for their opinions and minds then the American woman is for you. \n\nIf I was a multi Millionaire I definitely would roll with American women so I can have a good time with a minimal amount of complications, in Canada because Women generally tend to be more educated than their American counterparts, You are then forced into constant serious discussions be it personal or otherwise which can come off as a Buzz kill.

As a New Yorker who frequents MTL. women in Montreal are way hotter on average. \nNew York women are constantly looking to finesse a situation and operate from a struggle mindset.\n\nIn Canada you'll have solid 10s working barely above minimum wage, you'll feel like you're tripping over baddies.\nTake one of their average looking girls, dump her in NYC and she'll be worshiped as a queen.\nCanadian women are also much easier/nicer to talk to and a lot less materialistic.\n\nAlso, (alleged fat shaming segment ahead) black women can't tell me shit about them being naturally fatter because Canadian black girls aren't big like that. Of all my cousin's friends, maybe 2 are out of shape and neither would be considered that big by American standards. It definitely shifts city-to-city, region-to-region. This was a really cool episode. I'm a born and raised Canadian, but my friends and my fiancé are all from the USA, so I've got a firsthand look at the differences in our cultures and countries.\n\nOne thing I'll say right off the bat, I think a big part of what makes Canada work the way it does, is that we have such a small population compared to the USA.\n\nCanada only has around 35 million people, but there are some states in the USA that have over 40 Million people on their own. \n\nWhen you have that many people crammed together in one location, all fighting for jobs and housing and food and everything, it makes sense why you might have a culture that's a lot louder and self serving, because you have to compete with millions of people if you really want to make something of yourself.\n\nMy hometown of Edmonton Alberta, for example, we had a population of just 500,000. And I think the laid back attitude that a lot of people have in Canada is a product of that. \n\nThat's a big reason our crime levels would appear lower as well, because there's just a lot less of us.

I’ve been to Canada (Toronto, Scarborough to be exact) at least 2-3 times when I was married to a Canadian and I can say that I had very good experiences except for dealing with some of the French. Definitely a culture shock in some aspects. The diversity is very strong which is a plus. Only downsides are the gun laws and the unavailability of sweet tea (yeah I’m southern). But overall Canada is very nice.\n\nBut one thing you’re not lying about is the WATER. Different locations in the states have different tasting water. If you want water that smell like eggs then Florida is your spot. If you want fresh water, buy a water well. \n\n\nYour experiences may vary.

Well the governments of Canada have made it illegal for us to express our views. As a white English Canadian I don't think most of us hate people because they came from abroad. If people came to Canada and actually became Canadians I don't think 90% of people have an issue with that. The problem is people are coming here and are not assimilating. Especially the people from Asian and African nations. But this is not surprising to me because their culture is so different from ours. I would prefer immigrants came from northern Europe especially the British Isles and France due to having a shared history, values, and culture similar to Canada. \n\nThe other issue is mass immigration mostly only benefits wealthy people because they get cheap labour. People coming from countries with a much lower standard of living are used to earning less and living with less so they depress wages for working people here. The so called skilled immigrants that our government tells us will solve all of our nations problems are not. No one recognizes their skills here so they end up taking jobs away from other Canadians. \n\nI think Canada's solution would be to stop relying on foreigners and invest in Canadian people. I would cut immigration levels by 75%. I would limit immigrant applicants to make up only 5% from one country. Also we should only allow Canadian citizens to own property. Dual citizenship should be eliminated. You should only be loyal to Canada. \n\nThe government should also stop spending money on Black lives Matter, criminals, drug addicts, and other socialist non-sense. Government spending and taxes should be cut in half and free enterprise should be encouraged. We should be using money towards infrastructure and education. We should be training Canadians to become engineers, doctors, and skilled tradesmen. I would rather invest in our own people that try to accommodate foreigners.

I moved to Canada from Australia. My standard of living is much worse here. My family and I will be moving back to Australia. \n\nI don’t agree that there’s systemic racism here - the majority of my friends are ethnic minorities and I saw no evidences they were discriminated against (nor did they ever express that they experienced racism). I feel Canadians are obsessed with race due to it being an issue in the United States, thus they exaggerate these issues and often draw instances of racism that are very thin (such as the examples you believe prove racism). “Silent racism” is code for interpreting something as being racist. I believe if we had to list the top ten LEAST racist countries in the world, Canada would be in the top 5.

Just more than a year living here in Canada realizations:\n\n1. So cold. Not everytime you can be so productive because the weather is a big hindrance\n2. As an immigrant, you will start from scratch. There will be great opportunities, sometimes really fast promotions or salary increase but workplaces are always short staffed that the amount of work is not worth it with how much the salary is. \n3. Some people still have preferences and you will really feel discriminated.\n4. People are polite, I am very impressed but so individualistic, it's sad. Growing in a country with a very collective type of community, you will really fee the void once you try living in Canada. you can't fully relate to everyone, be free to talk to them about everything because you rarely have common ground or understanding. What about the high fees and narrow ... In the education area international students who are forced whipped to take 3 / 9 even if they are sick, broke or have finally one subject left. ( sky rocket fees with so much biasness among coloured and Muslim students )\n\nCanada cares about family values, ( really ) my friend's husband died and her children have grown up, 6 years, no reason but it's Canada. \n\nWhy restrict students with their 3/9 to sponsor their partners, during these times of uncertainty ( pandemic ) we'll it's too hard but everyone and everything that tries to fly with eyes folded will crash land sooner or later. \n\nThe Canadian system is ? slow and too bad but squeezing the juice out of every new comment.\n\nI am an interior student with good English and am still unable to sponsor my husband. 4 years up. \n( alhamdulillah no language barrier, no criminal records, husband knows French, Engineer in profession, international experience... )

A few other pointers for immigrants:\n- don't blow your noses in public washbasins. Canadians find this disgusting.\n- sit on toilet seats, don't stand on them - you'll probably miss.\n- Wear proper swimwear in public pools. Saris and other full-body wear whose cleanliness may be suspect are not appreciated. Canadians will be too polite to point this out to you.\n\nHope this helps.

As someone who’s lived in Canada longer than either of you two ladies have walked the earth I can tell you the reason why Canada’s public technology is so obsolete - public institution corruption. \n\nPoliticians and public servants pay off each other and the unions against the interests of the Public.\n\nThese people are the ones who control how public funds are used and what taxpayers see from paying their taxes. According to the Americans I've talked to both who have moved to Canada and still live in America, Canada is far better than America. There's plenty of evidence showing the reasons Canada is the better country overall. The main amount of people who move from Canada to America are rich and/or corrupt people because why would you want to move somewhere that offers you less? The working conditions in America are abysmal and the economy and infrastructure are both falling apart at their unrestrained Capitalism. Sorry if this hurts your feelings but it's objective fact that Canadians have it better than Americans in current times. Working class Americans can tell you about all the horrible dystopian level things they have to put up with.\n\nCanada has its issues but to try to pretend America and Canada are on par is deluded.

Each country has its own pros and cons and question is whether cons are balanced by pros. \nI remember when Austrian colleague come to Toronto for a 3 months for a scientific exchange. She was shocked, whereas I, being in my 5th year of my stay there, I no longer react but adapt to a situation. \n\nAs for doctors, I know foreign doctors who can't practice as is taking forever to get papers done. Some of them need to pass all exams from a medical school. \n\nYou reminded me how I was annoyed by tax not included in a price. In Poland price on a price tag is final, the same for the UK or Switzerland. \nSilent racism I will call it fake openness as it also touches white immigrants from Europe. The job market is sealed shut and glass door awaits. My Canadian, academic job experience was good enough for the UK and Switzerland/Liechtenstein. Funny fact, recently I got invitation to apply for a job in Canada as suddenly I am good enough. Of course no one ever invited me to the network so networking is not. Even funnier I was interviewed for a job but when I saw rent for 1 bedroom in Toronto I withdrawn my application.\n\n I was told old building in Switzerland are bad. Maybe. But after living in a carton wall studio in Toronto, now rent is above 2,000 CAN, I have very low expectations. Remember my shock when I saw quality of a buildings.

1 - It was other people’s income taxes that paid for & made the Canada you met, liked & had an opportunity to thrive in. If you’re questioning why you have to pay higher taxes when you earn more, think about refunding the benefits you had when you weren’t earning as much\n\n2 - 8 hours in an ER is not an emergency, if there’s a life threatening incident, you get the medical care you need\n\n3 - Quality living costs money everywhere in the world, you get what you’re willing to pay for. There are $35 phone plans & you can use public transportation & skip car insurance and maintenance. US inflation is worse off than Canada\n\n4 - There are so many things to do in Canada, it’s just not in your forte. Why Canada ???\nNo 1 - Canada is the Easiest PR for students in the western world. Australian PR requires IELTS individual 7.\nNo 2- Canadian tuitions are cheaper compared to Australia.\n\nAnd sadly,\nThese international students are taking worthless courses or courses just made up for them.

Well, I guess that most families from Asian counties live together and share space so they will be able to afford homes. I guess that we should educate Canadians that they should not expect to be able to afford rent or owning a home unless you stay with your family and all live together. See, problem solved. Change your expectations and way of life to accommodate a government that prefers to have expansion and growth at all costs instead of fixing our current problems. What the HELL! We can't even shelter our seniors and veterans. A large number of Canadians are homeless 2 to 5 years waiting lists for seniors and low income housing.\n\nI'm not against immigration or immigrants, but lets take care of our own citizens ... the ones born and raised here and paying taxes for all their lives.
