The dude complaining about the volunteers for social services work getting paid is redic. This is work and to maintain it getting done consistently and as often as needed you need to pay peers or employees for their time and work. Yes some people will hold to volunteer work, I do volunteer work myself. But if you're volunteering you're more likely to call out for silly reasons or not work as hard and then you end up short staffed and people not getting the help they need. I have worked in these encampments, got paid, but provided the camps with harm reduction supplies, food & water, and toiletries as well as helping people call Central Intake and references to medical support. That is still work, I would usually walk about 10km a day with a heavy bag on my back and I'm poor disabled person myself. \n\nAs well as addressing unhoused folks using substances, would you want to go to detox while not having a home? It feels absolutely horrible and getting sober when you don't have a bed to shower in, a toilet to use, a shower to clean yourself up in, is really f*cking hard. A lot of people start using substances like meth to help them survive as well, needing it to stay up at night so you don't get attacked at night sleeping. Don't shame substance use, but especially substance use with the unhoused.

Waterloo University (which is also in ON, CA) has some classes which and a absolute joke and basically immigrants are only taking them just to live here its not fair

The homeless problem has become way worse over the years. Canada has become way too expensive to live with the outrageous prices in rent, heat, hydro, food, property taxes it’s bloody outrageous. Ppl loose their jobs and find they can’t afford to pay their rents and mortgages along with all the other bills if they can’t find another job right away. And companies are to hire minority over white ppl. A white male in Ontario, forget about it. White ppl have become minority now in the work force. Absolutely the cost of living has caused the homeless problem to sky rocket. As far as the system it’s true that the system takes care of foreigners first over Canadians. I remember many years ago I tried to get student assistance to take courses and I was rejected because I lived with a parent, the person on the other end of the phone told me strait out if I was a foreigner I’d of gotten the assistance, and this was way before Trudeau was in the picture!!!

I am Canadian and I was offered a live changing job opportunity and with the equity in my home at the moment my wife and I would of been able to by a 5000sq home with a swimming pool and palm trees but the thought of of my children going to school in the United States was a flare out no !! Numbers reported are true and its going to increase in 2024. I live in the capital and I see dozens of distress home sales due to increased mortgages. People face high taxation, heavily overburdened healthcare system, unaffordable rentals, loss of jobs, grocery prices over the roof, rapidly increasing crime rate and robberies, uncertainty about the good days again. Canada used to be a good place to settle, but now there are dozens of other countries that are welcoming with an affordable peaceful life. For Indians, there is absolutely no reason to hunt for a job or better life here as it involves start from the scratch for everything. India is rushing to become the fastest growing economy in the world with millions of opportunities and a solid political leadership, a history in the making.

Many of these immigrants obtained their desired education, obtained a Canadian passport as backup security and then they’re moving on to what they view/perceive as better financial prospects elsewhere. Many immigrants arrive pregnant , have their children here in Canada and the child receives a Canadian passport.
