I’m American but I stand with everything he said!! trump and the republicans are siding with dictators and continue to lie to them about everything….I never thought as an American… the supposed leaders of the democracy free world….would really allow a felon to destroy our country and make us TRAITORS siding with DICTATORS ?

I feel sorry for Canada. But what will these tariffs do to weaker Mexico? Do Americans really think that impoverishing Mexico will lead to less criminality and immigration from Mexico? This is crazy.

Dear Canada...I am so embarrassed (and worried) to be an American. Trump and his cronies don't speak for me or my family. I'm really afraid of where our country is heading.

The American government are weak ass politicians with no backbone too scared to stand up to Trump and fight for their constituents. This is the weakest, delusional, narcissistic, naive Republican Party that ever existed. To all the Mega followers who put this pathetic sh**hole administration in office you guys are about to really have a rude awakening. I believe Putin is using the Trump administration as puppets and he is the puppet master. Trump is not the people president he is Putin president.

As a Mexican-American it really makes me sad seeing our relationship with our long friend Canada crumble.

Tit for tat on trade is Fair trade. I was really amazed that Canada threatened to cut the flow of electricity (instead of just charging extra) that would have killed American elderly who depend on it and the young in incubators and )2 users who depend on electricity.

Great, unambiguous words by the Canadian president! But one of his remarks stood out: he said that the tyrants want to divide us. He is correct, of course. But the implications are profound! This means that Trudeau himself is measuring his words and deliberately using diplomatic language. He even says that Trump is “intelligent”, which only plays into the imbecile’s unfortunate NPD psychology! The unwillingness to stand strong against American tyranny is harming democracy worldwide! Force Trump to declare a side! And make him choose Putin or democracy NOW!! If you fail to do that, you are taking the path of accommodation, and if Trump is really a tyrant (which he surely is, because of MANY evidences!!), democratic countries weaken their position by not standing strong NOW. If Europe and Canada and Mexico ban Tesla imports and place 50% tariffs on tens of billions of dollars of American products, what would happen? Are these countries AFRAID of the United States? This is not the time for fear! This is the time for courage! Boycott!!!

An american living in Germany. The Canadians were (and are) my neighbors. I grew up in Maine, and no one one should piss off Canadians, it can only go bad. But EXACTLY that is what trump wants, that everything goes bad. It is not only going bad, everything is going to shit, my fellow americans are too stupid to notice or care. It’s really annoying that CNN continues to babble on instead of letting Trudeau finish his press conference and then proceed with their responses. Our country is in the hands of a madman along with Musk and other cowardly Republicans who are in office. For all of those who voted for Trump, wait till energy and other costs rise, but it’s a shame we will all suffer as a result. Canada is our friend I am ashamed right now to call myself an American.

It’s a sad times our government are only worried about themselves . They are able to ruin the country and do all of these because the United states is filled with hatred .The people of the United States somehow think that Our president working closely with our enemy ( Russia ) Is some type of alliance with working towards segregation toward other Americans they feel are less superior to other Americans . As an American who grew up in Canada, this saddens me to my core. I spent my whole childhood and into my 20s in Canada, and am really regretting ever leaving for this cesspool. I still have all of my family in Canada and I will always feel Canadian and will always stand by and fight for them ?❤️?

I know many americans voted for trump but this action is trump voting against the american people. I mean do you guys really think Putin is a 'good' guy? You guys have to get trump out of there he wants to destroy america.

If he really cared about the fentanyl epidemic and drug addicts he wouldn't be cutting funding for programs that help drug addicts. He wouldn't be cutting funding to mental health programs. He wouldn't be cutting funding to programs that help poorer families and children. He does not care about the working class and Americans who are already struggling. The only people he cares about are his wealthy buddies, and even then, it's more about their money than anything else. If any of them lost everything tomorrow, he wouldn't reach out to them with open arms and support, lol.

The rest of the world seems to have a hate boner for the US yet can’t even be bothered to figure out how to not start new world wars, can’t even be bothered to take in and handle their own refugees, can’t even be bothered to help your own people.\n\nWe The People are growing real tired of our treatment on the world stage. Furthermore, we have our own issues. We have to focus on our own country and people, because as it stands many of us are struggling to figure out how to pay rent without picking up 2nd jobs or side hussle’s. Please understand this, we voted for Donald Trump. Flaws and all. He didn’t cheat or steal his way in. He isn’t a threat to democracy, or the stability of Europe. He’s and American president for America and if any non Americans wanna take issue with that. Then come get your citizenship and vote for it, but until then, stop crying about what America is doing and focus on your own country. Who knows, if you do your own country might actually be notable enough for you to understand my frustrations :)

The number of countries around the world boycotting American products in support of Canada will really bite America. Canadians are done, we will not be bullied by our neighbours to the south, and free nations are watching. America has lost all previous respect it had on the world stage. America is not a decent and reliable friend, America can not be trusted to honour its agreement. We will fight back! Canad has never started a war of any kind, but we have never failed to fight back when attacked, and we have never lost a war!

It is really hard to believe that Trump isn't a russian asset, considering that he constantly goes after his own people, country and allies.... He is going after everyone who is standing in the way of Russia and (American) oligarchs (FBI, nuclear weapons etc.), ignoring all existing laws

As an American, i hope that the world does react to the United States as Canada has. And even worse. I hope that things for us get as bad as it gets because anything less will be ignored or brushed off as anyone elses fault. I want Americans to really understand what a horrible mistake they made in Donald. But my hopes or not, this seems very likely to be the case anyway.

I loved the speech of PM Trudeau- but one thing he kept saying is wrong. Our government did not do this - One man did this via executive orders. He does not care who he hurts. He does not care about the American people. Trump only cares about himself and his relationship with Mother Russia and Putin. TRUMP doesn't want peace. He is thriving on the chaos that he and Musk are initiating. Trump needs to be impeached immediately but our Congresmaen and women, who are supposed to represent their populations are too scared to do anything other than what Trump tells them to do. Our Government is supported to have a Check and Balance function, but none of the branches have the guts to stand up to TRump. I really believe that Trump's American first policy is to end up as America ALONE.

I'm European and I really can't understand how you can make an economic trade war with an ally like Canada, a close and so friendly neighbor.... A dumb decision not only for the W Post... And all of this will end up heavily impacting Americans as well, also because besides Canada there is Mexico, China and the whole of Europe. In such a war there are no winners.... I really hope that the American people understand this and start fighting for this nonsense to end. \nAnd when I then hear President Trudeau called governor.... Well I get even more angry. How in the hell we put this guy in office, America we are looking really damn foolish and we are just lowdown. Damn it, I feel hurt as an American.

As an American, I love Canada but Trudeau really sucks. Without a doubt, he looks down on the US and has openly insulted America.

The Trump supporters I know either have no clue what he’s doing, or they believe that he’s just bargaining for better deals because they think America is getting screwed by our allies. This is all nonsense of course. \n\nThe American right has gone through ten years of brainwashing by conservative media outlets, and they really believe Trump will somehow bring back the America from 60+ years ago. They are in a cult, and they may double down on their fanaticism with these retaliatory tariffs.\n\nI watched sanity be replaced with complete craziness, and I do not know how we can finally get these people to realize they were misled.

Nothing but two people trying to do what they think is best for their own countries. I'm not mad at that, but Trudeau for the sake of his country, will make it harder on us by his tarrifs which tells me how much she really cares for Americans, not more than his. Which I'm fine with. You have to take care of your own, but tit for tat isn't good for anyone.

Trump isn't starting this trade war because of drugs. He's doing it for no other reason than to damage your relationship. Everything else is just a distraction so he can motivate it to the American public to prevent them from realizing what is really going on before it is too late. Why would he want to damage your relationship? It's not because it benefits America. There's another external part that benefits. And that is where you need to look.

A summer of austerity for 36 million Canadians vs a summer of austerity for 365 million Americans. Good luck. I am really curious about what the MAGA and other Americans will do next.

This is how we treat our friends and allies now. It's as if Trump has chosen to go to war against the American people directly, ruining our friendships like a jealous mate who wants to isolate you from his friends. We really are witnessing the beginning of a dark chapter in American and world history. Trump is destroying (deliberately) crucial historical alliances that have benefitted the US itself. I just can believe what Trump's government is doing, he's not even hiding it anymore, isolating the US and giving your country to the hands of Russia and going forward of China. What would be interesting to know is how trade between Canada and Europe explodes, Europe would like all the oil and gas and rare earthminerals Canada has, so would China, if for nothing other than to prevent Americas access to it. I think trump and musk think russia will supply rare earth minerals on the cheap, but Russia is about to collapse again and various regions break away as they did last time, but this time is much worse than back then, Russia really could cease to exist and America will not benefit at all, Europe China India Mongolia will benefit. Russians hate america more than Americans hates Russia, America has been prosperous, while 40% of Russians don't have running water or electricity, yes the big cities and towns in the west are better off but most of Russia does not even have paved roads.\n\nTrump is backing his banker, and everyone knows it, pootin is using trump, very clearly shown when he set up President Zelensky in that ambush.\n\nEurope China and other countries will be in line to sign trade deals. I think it was clever of Trudeau to say what he did. And to set a few months before the massive cuts in trade with America as what the rapist president is doing, what republicans are doing will be biting very hard by then, and Canada cutting trade at that time will be possibly the straw that breaks trump.

Trump is doing all this for one person only, Putin. He is really putting on a show for Putin at American expense. Treasonous orange snake...
