I worked 40 years in canada and i will get my OAC &CPP deposited to my account in my birth country of guyana.I hold dual citizenship so i can leave and return as i wish.With a population of just a million and low cost of living would be my choise to return home.well guyana is an oil buming economy and as a borned guyanese i might get some of that money ontop of my canada pension.

Funny thing, Halifax is bursting at the seams with new arrivals. It’s expected to double in size in the next decade. There’s another ethnic grocery store opening every week. Our population has grown by 10 million people in 20 years, largely due to immigration. Toronto is bursting at the seams and is the most polyglot city on the planet. I have noticed a lot of these whiny videos by immigrants who say it’s no good to move here. I think they are not telling the truth about the tsunami of immigration going on here in Canada right now. Trouble is, there’s not enough housing for the 40 million people here right now. There’s not enough doctors, nurses, hospitals, social services/workers to service our present population. Still, the government flaps its gums about wanting 100 million people here by 2100. If that’s true, southern Ontario will look like Tokyo. There has to be a reevaluation of putting the majority of new arrivals in the GTA. If people want to move here, they should be willing to go to smaller cities and towns across the country.

Even Canadians who worked for 40 years can't afford to live in Canada including pensioners. Many of your numbers are wrong sweetie. Here are the facts;\n2 years ago, you would go to IGA (where food is fresh but it is pricey), you would get out with 2 bags of groceries for about 120$. Today, it is 180$ for the same 2 bags. this is NOT a 10% increase... but almost the double in price!\n\nRent, in Quebec province, have gone from around 1,000$ to 2,400$ in less than 5 years, and each time a tennant leave his place, the landlord rise (against the law but nobody can do anything) the rent often by 25 to 40%!!! The Demand is so high, that he can refuse you for any reason (including racism, children, pet, smokers) he can think of. Again, this is against the common law but in truth, there is nothing anybody can do, unless you can bring him to court, which takes lots of money...\n\nSo in reality, from the last 5 years, almost everything has double in price and salaries have barely start to rise (mostly due to unions who revolted) but if you are not part of one, your salary basically stayed the same.\n\nA very good advice, don't come to Canada. There is no 'dream' here anymore. it is hell. And even if you find a decent job, you will be ask to do the job of 4 peoples and taking your vacation will be near impossible without losing it. Lots of people living Canada I think 40-50.000 every Year since 2022. Cost of living, inflation, growing poverty, cost of food, Canadian HOC not capable of making any right decision for the country.

Canada, in my opinion, is a fourth-world country with poor leadership. They rely a lot on the USA for everything. People who migrate come with significant experience from their home country but get frustrated and disappointed when they don't get similarly skilled jobs. Too many chiefs but no soldiers. Suggestions- patience, leave your baggage of experience back home as it will serve no purpose. Try and mingle with local culture. Don't force your views. What I saw 40 years back is no longer the same in 2024.

And no one informs them how the pension plan works. To explain with simple numbers, let's say you worked in Canada for 20 years. You will receive the maximum CPP about $1200 per month only if you worked in Canada for 40 years. If you retired with only 20 years CPP contribution your pension will be $1200 x 20/40 = $600. Unfortunately to survive in Canada you will have to have saved at least 500000, yes half a million of today's money. Good lack with that with the crazy cost of living if you rent a home. Conclusion, save some money and leave before is too late.

I am an immigrant, but have lived here for over 40 years.\nI went to university here, started at entry level jobs, worked hard, and worked my my way up.\nMy income is north of $200K.\nI have found new immigrants to be more highly educated coming in and they have higher expectations and are not prepared to put in the time to move ahead.\nI am happy I moved here because Canada offers a much better environment to live than most countries in the world. \nAs far as housing affordability is concerned, this is nothing new. We had the same issue in the mid 1980s.\nMy advice is to be patient and if you have the skills, it will all fall in place eventually.

Your number 1 reason to leave Canada is something I have been seriously thinking of too. When I first came to Canada it played a peace-keeping role. Hi from Germany. Love your content. Freshly reverted (2month ago?). And yes, I'm with you on this decision. I barely moved back to Germany 3 years ago after 17 years in the US. But I'm already ready to move out! I think Germany is right with Canada regarding Inflation (cucumber from 50 Cent to sometimes 1,40 € or higher). lol...I left Canada 12 years ago...Canada is not moving forward, very little industries to choose, very little roles and positions to offer, the work culture is slow, lazy and dumb in general. Cost of living and tax is high. The government is not open to welcoming more outside investment or allow more companies into Canada. \nAnd having Trudeau as the PM makes everything just worse... \n\nThe only reasons I would go back to Canada, for a vist only, is because of the fresh air and trees and quietness. And maybe some food that I like...and to see my family. But that's all.....I moved back to Hong Kong, and then explored opportunities in mainland China as well. Honestly, after my experience back in Hong Kong it felt like Canada is at least 20 years behind. And after exploring mainland China, it feels like Canada is 40 years behind. \n\nSo yea, no plans to move back to Canada.....because even elderly homes in China now provides really high quality service compare to the ones offered in Canada, you would feel like the Canadian elderly homes are a prison for old people.

If it weren't for my mom being here and if I could fine a sustainable income. I'd move back to Vietnam. Canadians friendly? Some. Some are fake friendly. I stopped visiting Canada 40 years ago because of insane or corrupt border control policies. I traveled to Canada from California to record an album for a popular rock star. My crew number 4 people and we had reserves a month for basic tracking in a studio there. We bought our own reels of 3 inch wide recording tape because the studio wanted twice the rate as normal and since my studio was a distributor for the mastering tapes we brought from my own inventory. Each reel of tape was 3 lbs and brought 30 reels. We got to customs and they said we owed money for importing the tape. Normally a reel would have been $180, and customs wanted $38,000 x 20, and would not let us retrieve it to take it back to the US side of the border. How can a tape worth $180 suddenly have duty of $38,000?\nIt was explained to me as the Potential Value of the tape which meant AFTER a hit song was recording in it. Most recordings are total losses and the tape cant used on a new project even if properly bulk-erased. They expected me to pay on the spot $760,000 in duties. I gave up and left the tape with them. I called the artist and said we could not do the project in Canada and we went back to California. The artist came to us a few months later and the result was a minor hit, and probably barely made its production cost since the label only distributed it in Canada. I talked to an international trade lawyer about what happened and he said customs officials were wrong in Canada but they are given full latitude with no appeal so his advice was never take anything over the border that I did not mind being confiscated. Sometimes they would let it in because it was going back out in a month, but likely they sold it off and pocketed the money. The US is corrupt on a federal level but Canada is corrupt on the local level. I moved out of the US 24 years ago have a much higher quality of life than is even possible in the US, and live very cheaply. Total cost of living with a very active social and cultural life impossible to duplicate in the US which as some of the least options for culture. And my cost of living is $1500 a month, less than utilities alone for one house in California, and that is for 2 people. Last month for example I attended world class opera, ballet and symphonies 9 times, and went out to dinner, in jazz clubs or dance clubs, visited12 top museums, and it was still under $1500 for the month. A pair of tickets to the MET in NYC for lower grade performance, sets, orchestra ad theater, was $1800!! $600 for tickets to drama for 2. Here there 237 drama theaters within walking distance of my city center home, and can walk anywhere at any time of day and be safe due to VERY low crime rates. Free medical is good. I am not citizen but still I had an operation and 10 days in a vip single room for $5300 and despite my insurance I had been paying back in California $824.month, it was going to cost me out o pocket $500,000 and one day in a recovery 12 bed room, and require paid nursing attendant for 30 days. The results were great and was treated like king.\nCanadians have lost control of their government but Americas are screwed regardless, with lower than international standards for everything, with crime, corruption in Washington, extreme cost of living, no access to culture, few if any safe parks. My adopted city is not only far more beautiful than any US city, my GF can walk, alone, anywhere in a city of 7mil at any time of day through any of the 600 beautiful parks open 24/7..at 3am. There are no homeless, and 80% of those over 20yo own their home clear of debt. No college debt despite twice the % of people having degrees. The rest of the world caught up and has surpassed the US and Europe in quality of life. \n\nI have only been back to the US 5 times in 24 years and each time I am shocked by how much the entire society has declined while most of the world outside of Europe, Canada, US, UK or Australia have dramatically improved.\nEvery year since 2008 more Americans leave the US to live elsewhere than legal immigrants arrive.

Why would you want to leave Indonesia for Canada? Crime's not so bad in Indonesia. More violent and drugs crime in Canada, I think. I immigrated to Canada in 2010, and here are my experiences inside and outside Canada. I am grateful for a good education; having a Canadian passport opened up many opportunities in other countries to build a higher-level career. However, if I had known the amount of stress, health, and financial damage that I had to endure, I wouldn't have chosen to come to Canada. I would have remained in the US or EU countries where I could achieve even more without suffering to the level I did here. \n\nMisleading immigration promotion: The government-sponsored Canadian immigration program oversells what Canada can offer. It withholds information on the cost of living, chicken-and-egg problems like Canadian work experience is required to get a job at the same level as you are in, Canadian credit history is required to rent a proper apartment, Canadian education is required to secure a high-level job, etc. \n\nHiring process: I knew the Canadian system was not ideal for immigrants over a decade ago, but it got so bad now that even the born citizens are unable to survive. The Canadian government and employers lack a basic understanding that ambitious, high-achieving people immigrate to other countries for high-level positions using proper channels. It's ridiculous to see that Canada uses a point-based system to choose highly qualified personnel to enter their country yet expects them to pursue low-paying entry-level or labor jobs just because they have brown/black skin. At first, I thought having a Canadian degree and experience might help me get high-level jobs, and I didn't think how I spoke or looked would matter when I had high credentials to show off. So, I got my masters & Ph.D. from the Univesity of Toronto, which consistently ranks #1 in Canada. I have a bachelor's from a prestigious university in Asia and had a high-competitive, well-paid federal government job in another country. Still, none of that was recognized in Canada, and I had to volunteer for over 6 months, 10 to 12 hours/day, in a research lab that led to a funded PhD program. I worked even harder during my Ph.D. with many accomplishments, like 40+ research and leadership awards, internationally recognized scientific discoveries, and innovative technologies. I checked all the above and beyond in various domains (research, teaching, leadership, business, engineering consulting, collaborations, etc.). Yet, employers couldn't see past my race, gender, age, etc., and refused to give me the opportunity at the level of my qualifications. Luckily, I managed to secure short-term work in the UK & the US, and it changed even how I see myself. I was highly respected for my credentials, given higher positions than I applied for, and paid 3-4 times more salary and benefits. Of course, bias is an integral part of every society, but my race, gender, age, etc., were not as big of an issue to begin my career at the mid-career stage in these countries as opposed to Canada. \n\nHealthcare: Access to healthcare was another big challenge for me. When I moved to Canada in 2010, due to extremely low temperatures, I developed hives all over my body, my eyes got red, and I coughed for many months. The doctor said there was nothing wrong with me and refused to give me any medication. It took us years to get a family doctor, and we got one through my personal network. In 2015/2016, I developed an autoimmune disease, and my eyeballs popped out. As of today, I did not get to see an eye specialist as they have only 1 specialist in the area, and the waiting time is for years for the first consultation. Every time the family doctor told me that I had iron deficiency, even when I insisted that they should run additional tests and they cleared, they were flagged. The doctor never diagnosed my autoimmune condition. Luckily, during my short-term work in the UK, I saw competent interns who completed my care. NHS is poorer than the medical system in Canada... they are understaffed, don't have hospital beds after surgery, or don't have stock of paper gowns, yet the staff are highly competent and caring. Within 1-2 years, they did complete diagnosis by sending me to various specialists, completed eye surgery, and even found a lifelong condition that was preventing me from realizing my full potential. Following, in the US, the doctors confirmed the diagnosis of all the conditions within 1-2 months and put me on two small pills for life. It has dramatically changed my life, and I have even more admiration for the medical profession. While in Canada, I suffered for over a decade, and every time, I was treated as a hypochondriac and never given a single prescription. \n\nQuality of life: Big cities like Toronto are mainly affected by high crime rates, overpopulation, cost of living, low employment, low salaries, etc. A few months back, there was a huge auto theft, and one of my contacts lost their Lexus car within minutes of parking. Despite being a scientist, I have no faith in politicians or individuals fixing these problems. The salaries are not increasing, but the taxes and cost of living are on the exponential growth curve. The ridiculous part is that Canada expects you to pay taxes even when you are not employed or living in Canada! I lived in London and Boston, and they offer a much higher quality of life and pay. \n\nGrowth potential: No wonder Canada, being a G7 country, falls at the bottom of the list in innovation, equal opportunities, economic growth, etc. It has a decent education system but, due to its inherent bias in the hiring process and monopoly of certain businesses, loses talented immigrants and highly qualified Canadians to the US, the UK, and EU markets. Unless there is a dramatic shift in policies, Canadians, especially new immigrants, cannot expect any positive experience in Canada except for being discriminated against and losing valuable time and money by being there.

Canada has a few problems like these: Many many people want to come live in Canada, last year more than a million people came to our country. The total population of the country is now greater than 40 million people. This is putting enormous pressure on the housing market, this is why in part the cost of housing is very high. Also, ridiculous monetary policy from many central banks to bring the interest rate to zero has helped create a real estate bubble. Rates are now higher and this is cooling the market. Immigration is also putting pressure on the health care system and education system. \n\nNow if there has been a lot of inflation it is partly because the country is rich and many people have lots of money. Yes there are people suffering from the situation but believe, the shopping centres are full of people, the restaurants are full, etc. Life is still very good for those people that have been smart with their money.

Every country is beautiful but it depends on our comfort level . I love India but I have been in Canada for over 40 years . Children are born and raised here. I am more comfortable here. My own children and my neices nephews everyone live in this country. I love Canada as much I love India. I enjoy being with my children and grandchildren. The living standard is high in Canada, meaning even the poorest has access to a quality life through the Social Services govt system. Maybe you think that is living the good life equivalent or on par with a person of European ancestry who is at least 3rd generation Canadian and in over 75% of the cases have had a transference of Generational wealth.

The USA is good if you’re willing to overwork to make money… you will basically work work work and that’s not a good life. I recommend USA if you are young and want to flex in the future. I work every day in America and I’m not missing anything but I feel like a slave honestly. Canada is good for foreigners that are trying to get PR and a Citizenship from a western country quick because Canada needs a lot of immigrants due to its size. Canada is not good to live because it’s just so damn cold and housing costs too much. Europe is good if you’re trying to be lazy because the government likes to give money and health insurance is free but it’s hard getting PR and Citizenship. In Europe the income is very low on average compared to the US but the reason is cause there’s just so much overtime available in the USA and things are more 24/7. Europe is better to start a family and safety security…. But you will be giving up working super hard in the USA to make good amount of money…. Pick your poison. I recommend going to Canada to acquiere a Citizenship quick then go to USA and work like a slave with a lot of overtime for 10-15 years and before your 40-55 years old you move to Europe…

One insane thing in Canada is even you work 40 years with a salary of 100k /yr, you are lucky if you get $1500 pension, while someone didn’t work a single day would get $1100 OAS… IT’s completely messed up. To make things worse, we selfemployed have to play $6600 a year to contribute to our CPP, but what’s the point?

We immigrated from the Philippines over 40 Years ago. Some of our relatives back in the the Philippines really don't understand how hard it is to live in Canada. Our cousins who in the last 10 years have Immigrated here have been working 2 jobs 7 days a week just to get by ?. I am sooo very proud to be Canadian, but Canada, specifically Ontario/ GTA, is truly becoming unaffordable to stay. After 40 years in Canada, I really wish I could leave. The health care, especially emergency departments, are shameful and inhumane. It’s a place to die really, not to get better!! And I agree with all other points mentioned here!!

My Canadian brother and his wife left Canada and moved to the U.S. when they were in their early 40's. They prospered and grew their careers for 15 years before deciding to return to Canada. In Canada they would have been considered politically Conservative and religiously as far-right Evangelical Christians, but they found their American neighbors to be off the charts in both categories. They remained in Canada for only 3 years before packing; up and moving back to the U.S. Their main reason was monetary. My brother's wife, who is a doctor, paid $27 thousand dollars less, per year in income tax in the U.S.A. Their 6,000 square foot luxury home in the U.S. cost them about $700K dollars and the equivalent in Canada was $2.4 Million dollars. Since his wife is a doctor, the U.S. healthcare system was not an issue for them, because as a doctor, she had the ultimate American healthcare insurance paid by her employer. They admitted that they had healthcare that was superior to that held by 98% of other Americans. I suspect they will remain in the U.S. for the future. Over the years they have adopted the unique American language and accent, so they now live unnoticed and unrecognizable as Canadians. lol

Completely agree with you. I spent 6 years in Canada and quit. Both me and my husband are highly educated but had to end up with minimum wage jobs to begin with. Winters are brutal. 2013 we experienced minus 40 with snow storms !! And keeping urself PACKED in ur home for months is extremely depressing. Medical facility inspite of being free is a joke !! You are better off getting basic medicines from India. They want to fix everything with Tylenol, that too such low potency that even 20 pills will not make any difference. And just 1 crocin in India and you can run a marathon next day. Education too is pathetic. They need a calculator to add 5 +5 !! Here 6 yr old kids do mental mathematics on 4 figures in their heads !! No university in Canada can even come close to IIT'S, IIM'S and IISC ever. 12th std math and science here in India is probably taught to engineering degree students on Canada. Moreover only Asian kids like Indians, Koreans Chinese kids ever reach university level education the rest are dropouts and busy with sex and drugs and temporary jobs to fend for the same. Mind you there is a lot of racism in Canada. Most whites hate Asians as they think that we have 'snatched' away their jobs !! They don't like it when we end up buying own homes within 2 to 3 yrs of migrating. Grocery is expensive. Commercial dairy products are high on hormones and other chemicals. It's crazy how many women there have issues with their reproductive organs. Hormone related obesity, diabetes is rampant. As she said only if you go there thru a company on projects ect it's alright. Else there is no place like India in every aspect.

My nana is from the UK originally and she has been living in Canada for 40+ years now and still has not become a Canadian citizen, not because she couldn't but because she never had to. She gave birth to my mom in Canada making my mom Canadian. I was born in the United States but since my mom was a Canadian citizen I was also a Canadian citizen. A lot of people like to bring up the housing crisis as a potential downside to having a bunch of immigrants but that just isn't the case. We have one of the lowest population densities of all of the countries in the world, and yet we all choose to live in high concentration areas and those that own the land in and around those concentrated areas know they can charge whatever they want because if you're not near the main 1-3 cities in your province it drastically cuts down on your land's value as far as housing goes so there is no incentive for anyone to build housing out there. Build more houses, we have the space. Figger it out.

I am living in Europe now, but my application to move to Canada was approved last year after a three-year wait. But my cousin, who is currently living in Albany, upstate New York, told me not to make the move. He said it is a bad time to move to North America right now, be it the US or Canada.\n\nLiberal governments had destroyed both countries, he said, and the current Canada is no longer the Canada that I made the application to move to.\n\nBut the life in Europe now is quite depressing as well, cost-wise. Beware of the single narrative. He’s speaking from his own experience, but it’s not the same as everybody’s. I’ve lived in Canada now for 4 years…got my citizenship this year. I lived in Nigeria for the 10 years prior to moving to Canada, and I also schooled and lived in the UK before that, so I speak with a wealth of diverse experiences. \n\nBefore you move to Canada or anywhere else for that matter, do the following:\n\n1. Research the country you’re moving to…what jobs are in demand, how that aligns with your qualifications…if you need to recertify or retrain in a different field. Many people move here thinking “oh I was a bank manager in Nigeria, so I’ll move here and become a bank manager”. It doesn’t work that way. The streets of Canada are littered with qualified medical doctors who drive Uber because they didn’t understand how difficult it would be to be certified to practice here.\n\n2. Find role models who are living the life you aspire to, or who have made similar moves and seek advice or guidance, and learn what they did right/wrong. Don’t just assume because your friend moved here, you can also move here and live the same life. You don’t share the same life experiences, history or have the same network.\n\n3. Before you immigrate physically, you have to immigrate mentally…be in the right mindset to live in a new country, understand their culture and learn to adapt. If you’re expecting to leave Nigeria and move to Canada to live a Nigerian lifestyle with “owambe” parties every weekend, or having 4 cars and 3 housemaids, then you’re still living in Nigeria mentally. Even Justin Trudeau does not drive 4 cars.\n\nI work in tech, so I knew that with God’s grace I’d find a way to succeed here. My wife worked in a Nigerian bank, and was able to transition to tech after we arrived here. Our combined annual income is roughly $500k, and we both work less than 40 hours a week, and I believe God will continue to bless us. I have easily 20 or 30 friends and colleagues who moved within a year or two of each other, and everyone is doing fine and working in tech jobs paying 6-figures. \n\nDon’t be discouraged by people’s failures and hardships. With the right planning and mindset, you can achieve your goals in any country. Reach out to people on LinkedIn, build a network and ask for advice (constructively)…many like us are more than willing to help.

Interest rates are increasing as well as rental cost increasing also and our federal warns that if we get raises in wages that will increase inflation if we get any raises in five years and like I stated before I’m close to retirement actually delayed because my pension after working 40 years in Canada is either or at the poverty level on Canada including many of the working poor living close or at the poverty level !

In canada I get 5 weeks vacations. A year maternity leave. Lots of sick days. Giving birth is FREE ( heard from an American woman she was in debt 30K for a complicated twin birth ????????).
