The weird thing is, look at nuns, the Amish, Mennonites, Pilgrims, Fiddler on the Roof, paintings throughout history of women. If a Muslim woman goes into a shop and makes a purchase It is reasonable for the shop keeper to want to see their face, after all a large robe can hide a lot of shop lifted goods.. As a young child I remember viewing the Amish women as being in a chronic 'state of funeral' based solely on their signature dark garb. Many Muslims woman are forced to wear niqab and in some cases bribed with money to do, many also do it by choice, so it does happen both ways. Every Muslim who is honest will tell you this.

It makes me angry when I see women wearing that on their faces. And if you watch this video, the woman not wearing it says her life is being threatened by muslims because she speaks out against wearing it. There is so much negativism associated with Islam and all Muslims get tarred with the same brush. They frighten us. Their dress is alien to us. ISIL and other groups do unspeakable things in the name of their religion. Their religion is too demanding. Christianity and other religions can adjust to scientific facts. We KNOW the world is round and there are other worlds, so far unpopulated, out there. Islam seems to demand adherence to its core beliefs written centuries ago and makes no concessions to emerging facts. Religion is the main influence in the life of Muslims and their Imams seem to have a lot to do with governance and education, instead of the separation of church and state to which we are used. If you come to Canada to live, then adjust to our values or leave, please. This doesn't mean that you have to stop attending a mosque but please discontinue the scary body coverings and start treating your women as equals, not chattels. Even some women will argue with that last bit, but why does a woman have to cover up and a man does not? This is NOT equality.

Being a Muslim woman must be very sad, in countries where Islam is the main religion they can't choose how to dress, they can't choose to have a career, they can chose who to marry, they can't choose their religion, and Islam also endorse husband to beat his wife if necessary. To the women who wear the niqab: do you really think that God is so stupid to judge you by what you wear??? God looks at your heart.\nThen, we can discuss about how much the US destabilised the middle east, but in general Islam doesn't fit well in a globalised world and created no social and economic development in the last 100 years. There are small exceptions (Qatar, UAE) who found oil under their ass, but in general a society who wants to live and do things like 1.600 years ago can only bring inequality and no progress whatsoever.

As a Muslim living in Canada, I don't see the harm in a woman wanting to cover herself, I wear the head scarf myself, but in my opinions I don't feel the need to cover myself to prove I am more modest or a better Muslim.  I believe everyone has free will and has the right in this Country to dress the way that the law has allowed them to.  No one has the right to tell someone how to dress, not even the Prime Minister himself.  Telling a woman what she can and cannot wear is oppression.  I truly believe that if Muslims want to live in Western civilization, then they should refrain from covering their faces because the face is our identity and People have the right to know who you are and what your face looks like.  You cannot vote with a covered face, you cannot cover your face in a passport photo, you cannot cover your face for your driver's licence etc... I am a Muslim woman and I say this.  It truly is a shame how the media is portraying Islam and the Muslim people as a whole, and it truly is a shame that Canadians have become so ignorant.  I see more ignorance and racism in Canada than I do in America and 9/11 took place in America.  If you want to know about Islam, learn about Islam from a Muslim, a Library, google Islam, or offer to spend a few days with a Muslim family for research to get a better understanding of Islam and Muslims.  As a Muslim myself I can understand the hatred and the ignorance because we act according to how we were taught and raised, and yes we have many extremists claiming to follow the Islamic faith.  These extremists are not only hurting Western civilization, but they are also hurting the peaceful moderate Muslims that value their rights and freedoms as Canadians.  I do not appreciate ISIS hijacking my religion, I do not appreciate Hamas or Hezballah hijacking my Religion because I am a very accepting person and a very open minded Muslim and to be defined by media as a problem or a terrorist is very hurtful and a shame.

It's interesting to see a Muslim woman give her opinion when in many Muslim dominated countries she wouldn't be given the same opportunity. I've also noticed many Muslims being interviewed are obviously not from overseas meaning they most likely haven't lived in a country that is governed by the law of the religion they follow. I wonder how they would enjoy living in any of the Muslim countries where Sharia law is practiced.
