Illegals have been coming through Canada for more than a decade. From the time Clinton signed the NAFTA agreement; the U.S became a sanctuary COUNTRY... EVERY state and mid size city in the union is housing the illegals and they're supporting them with taxpayer dollars...

The biggest impact on the declining economic productivity coincides with the Trump administrations trade war against Canada. They ripped up the previous trade agreement, and tabled a new one that attempted to devour Canadian industry. No one ever talks about this, and it's unfortunate. That coupled with the pandemic, resulted in a one-two punch to the Canadian economy. On top of that the amount of investment into automation in the energy sector over the past 10 years has reduced the demand for labour. And now with the ever expanding encroachment of AI on nearly every industry, the Canadian economy is facing an uphill battle. Many think that a prime minister is the main reason, when it's not. Canada is at the whim of US economic policy, which I fear is going to get even worse when Trump returns to office. A transition to Conservatives at the Federal level may lighten the load on a few things like Carbon Tax, and Income Tax (maybe), but they won't be the party to introduce limitations and regulations on investors that are responsible for driving up housing prices, by treating the housing market like it's a stock exchange. \nI will applaud Trudeau on winning over the EV battery plant, for pulling us out of bombing Syria and Iraq, for legalizing Marijuana, and for including Dental Care in health coverage (albeit limited...), but some of his decisions should have been better thought through, like the capital gains tax, and should only be targeting investors that have more than 3 properties. While he increased the budget for the Military, he's spent his first two terms ignoring it and that's severely hampered our readiness, and equipment. And while I do think we needed to boost immigration to stave off economic disaster, the current level that its at is problematic, and many bad faith actors are taking advantage of it and enriching themselves like the diploma mills.

I think canada should allow them to work but on immediately basis they should only allow international students with conditional agreement that if government find the are not worth for their country they can depot them

South Asian Indians are fourth generation Canadians and are educated, successful and have assimilated with the European culture. Well, Canada as a whole is still well over 85% white European, fortunately. I just moved back to the United States after living in Canada for 7 years. I’m a dual citizen, born in Vancouver raised in the states. I am in agreement with all of this. The economy is terrible and the cost of living is unbelievable. My business suffered and realized I would never prosper in Canada. I’m lucky to have options.

1. Canada's immigration is primarily skilled labour. Non- skilled labour is imported mostly from the Carribean countries especially Jamaica and you have to leave every year and come back in the next. So, that can be disruptive, but I've met Jamaican's who've been on those programs and done well as well as those who haven't.\n2. If you come to Canada illegally utakipata. Be prepared to hustle for long.\n3. Since Covid everything has become very expensive especially housing. \n4. The videos you've shown of people sleeping outside is because of an increase in the influx of refugees wanting to come to Canada. Refugee shelters are allocated money in the budget for what the Govt estimates will be the number of refugees they'll take in, but there's been an influx lately.\n- A point to note though, ALL refugees Canada received from Ukraine had jobs within 2 months. This is very surface-level analysis. If you want to dive into why Canada's economy is so uncompetitive you have to look at its constitutional framework. Inter-provincial trade is more difficult in Canada compared to Trade in the states or the EU because NAFTA, and the EU trade agreement are more efficient compared to inter-provincial trade frameworks the senate estimates these barriers cost the economy $150b in GDP per year. By comparison, Australia with a similar constitutional structure to Canada managed to harmonize many of its inter-state/ territory regulations leading to increased GDP growth and has long outperformed the Canadian economy. Furthermore, Canada's indigenous rights framework is far to restrictive in terms of allowing the governments to actually govern. This has cost us billions in FDI in projects tossed out by the courts and projects that will simply never be considered due to political and regulatory risks. \n\nThat said, if Canada wanted to improve this situation without meddling in the constitution one thing they can do is to allow housing to catch up to the population. We have the fewest number of dwelling per capita in the G7 in the highest population growth in the G7. This is a recipe for a housing shortage which ensures that a lot of capital will flow into the housing sector simply because it offers promising returns relative to the risk of operating a business. I believe Canada grew by over 1,000,000 residents in 2022 however we had 240,000 housing starts (4 residents per dwelling) and average house size here is 2.51 residents per dwelling. \n\nThat disconnect between housing starts (see regulatory framework above as to why we can't build enough houses) will just cause more capital to flow to the sectors making the business investment environment worse.

I thought the US and Canada had a legal agreement not to accept immigrants coming to Canada from the USA? I have no problem people seeking asylum and I feel we have a duty to process them. I have a problem if they come through the US as they should be processed there and applying for immigration to Canada.

Once Canada starts seeing increased numbers they immediately want to renegotiate an agreement but anytime the US clamps down on immigration they're seen as the bad guys.

There is supposedly an agreement between Canada and the US called the Safe Third Country Agreement which means illegal immigrants are supposed to apply for asylum in the first country they come to. Unfortunately, because of Trump, the Canadian government doesn't trust any US government to give these asylum seekers a fair hearing. Second, this agreement only applies to official border crossings, not unofficial ones like Roxham Road. Trudeau is absolutely right in wanting to renegotiate the Safe Third Country Agreement.

The US complains about growing illegal crossings from Canada to the US, meanwhile the US and CBP agents literally pay illegals in the US, to come to Canada. The illegals are provided cash, food, transportation and directions to an illegal crossing into Canada. The US is pissed that Canada wants changes to the safe 3rd country agreement and is fighting those changes.

The story neglects to mention that the ‘safe third country’ agreement is a problem because a Superior Court Judge ruled the US is not a safe country for detainees. The Court found that in US custody, detainees are subject to cruel and usual punishment, and sending them back to America would violate their basic rights under Canadian law. It was overturned on appeal from the Government, but is now being reviewed by the Supreme Court of Canada.

Slavery, residential schools and now exploitation of international students, Canada passively supports these things. Some PR campaign, acknowledgment and apology will solve everything. I do not see Americans as friends to Canada. we have had a softwood lumber dispute for 30 years now. Canada has different laws which Americans will never accept. when it comes to trade, Americans are not Free Trade or Fair Trade but Trade domination to eliminate competition. Reminder: when the Trudeau liberals announced their plan to dramatically increase the annual intake of immigrants, not one party in parliament offered any serious opposition. All have failed to call for decreasing immigration into Canada. All support 'free' trade agreements, including with China. Our political class is willingly selling our homes and our livelihoods.

There is Safe Third Country Agreement between the US and Canada. Therefore the law says you are required to claim refugee status in the first country you land in. With that being said he landed in the US first and probably applied for status there. This is a strong deciding factor for the government's decision process amongst other factors. I feel for him but laws are laws.

RE: Canadian healthcare, my wife broke both her hips in 2017 in two separate falls, she was admitted immediately to hospital without delay and operated on the next day (half hip replacement), after physio and occupational therapy she was discharged and provided Homecare, 16 times per week plus weekly Day Hospital. Our cost for both operations was roughly $160.00 for parking spots for me so I could visit her and about $140 in Tim Horton doughnuts for staff. The system does not have enough of certain types of specialists thus wait times for those specialists, and there are wait times for elective surgery. The system has not really been reviewed since its inception in the 1960s but making significant changes is the third rail of Canadian politics and a hard look is justified after 70 years. Re: illegal crossings; The gentleman in the video has a problem in that the US and Canada have signed a “safe country” agreement and neither will accept refugees from the other as both Canada and the US are deemed “safe havens”. He crossed illegally, if he had crossed legally he would have been immediately turned back at the border but he clearly entered the country between border crossings and was likely arrested and released on recognizance but not returned immediately as the agreement is silent on illegal entries (yes, seems a touch strange). As many people are leaving the US for Canada the system is overwhelmed. Tent cities have been set up in Quebec and public housing used in Manitoba to house illegal immigrant pending processing - those with criminal records are held for deportation. Canada has accepted roughly 25,000 Syrian refugees from camps in that part of the world. These refugees were first vetted by the UN then Canada. These refugees are completely different from the people crossing the border illegally from the United States. This pales to the 75,000 boat people accepted after the fall of Saigon. Canadians have been generally accepting of refugees but wants the process guided by the rule of law. Immigrants are a separate from refugees and the rules governing their entries into Canada are different.

He broke Canadian federal laws when he entered illegally to Canada! Him and his family should have been deported as soon as they arrived and under the 3rd party agreement Canada has with the U.S that is what was suppose to happen. He shouldn't have even gotten a refugee hearing! Now has breaking the law again by not showing up to his deportation and hiding his family in Vancouver and going to another province. Idiot! It's all Canadian law!

So you're accepted into the USA under a protection program, when it starts looking like your program is ending, you jump ship and start trying to ignore your program that your in that states you have to go home...\n\nThe mere fact that you're escaping to Canada shows you don't care about you immigration program and agreement, so why would we want to accept you? You'll just take as much as you can from our resources and economy and then jump ship the first chance you get, when you think there's a better oppurtunity.
