I keep waiting for people to grasp what Trump is actually doing, but everybody keeps following the bouncing ball.\n\nTrump only cares about getting richer and getting away with it. \n\nFacts: Dismantle government agencies who can oppose his crimes\n\nFire employees who can stop him from his crimes\n\nMisdirecting to continue his crimes.\n\nDistancing the U.S. from NATO Allie’s and siding with China, North Korea, and Russia.\n\nTariffs to tank the stock market, making predictable decline in stocks for massive profit from buying PUT options.\n\nWanting to remove any oversight in his or Elon’s (his tech genius) actions.\n\nHe literally stated he wanted to “look at Fort Knox to account for any gold missing. (He will fire those in charge to allow whoever to go in WITHOUT oversight to steal gold. Then state yep, there was missing gold, go see for yourself.\n\nHe already had Elon dipping into our treasury.\n\nHe got rid of the employees / agencies that oversee election security. Why? To keep eyes off of screwing people out of fair and equal future elections. Guarantee he will change the constitution with his majority party and executive order to throw out 2 term rule. This way he can stay in power and avoid ever facing sentencing for his crimes.\n\nI can keep going on, bottom line, Trump is a traitor to America and what do we do with those who commit treason? Figure it out.

36 trillion in national debt. That’s over $100,000 debt for each American. This is why Trump is taking action. The U.S. is going to default on just the interest payments alone!!! Canadas national debt per Canadian is $35,000. \n\nIt’s time our politicians prepare for rainy days by building manufacturing for the raw resources rather then send them off to be sold back as products to us. We bring in wealthy immigrants that price out our Canadian born citizens trying to buy into the housing market while the tent cities grow. The Liberal party has failed us.

Canadian here. I'm gonna buy whatever my wallet can afford. If it's American made and is 5 cents cheaper, I am buying it over the Canadian product. By the way Canadians, why aren't you super upset about the 20% Carbon Tax increase that's going to hit us April 1st. We have our own issues that we need to deal with here first. A corrupt Federal government, a negative GDP, more immigrants that we can handle and the list can go on.

As a Canadian we need to start buying Canada made or stuff made in Mexico or other countries besides America because everything is going to skyrocket that comes in from America

I find it so disturbing that I’m gonna say this if JD Vance little man JD Vance, the guy who called himself he was in the battlefield, but he wasn’t in no battle. He was just in the battlefield cleaning boots and you know making sure his gun work and you know cleaning his helmet, but he never went outside. He never went outside and what kills me. Is people who talk like they real veterans but they did no vet. They did no vet you ain’t no vet you talked about, the guy who is running with Kamala make it seem like he lied but she was in Afghanistan or I mean Iraq or whatever you call yourself you was in a compound. I know that for fact, JD Vance was in a compound awaiting instructions to see if you were able to go out there battle you didn’t go battle you watch the convoy go in and out. You are the same people you watch in mash mash the show when everybody go outside those same people sitting inside just cleaning boots and walking around that’s what he was doing, if this guy think that you guys could do whatever is dumb let everybody know mega is dumb. I don’t care what mega wanna say you put them in front of a scoreboard and you give them testes they going to show you their dumb most mega is dumb. They’re uneducated. That’s a fact There’s no going around it uneducated OK you can see from the terrorist that’s being put in. They’re uneducated because I don’t know who that’s why when people telling you they want to bring back religion you need to bring back economics in school bro economics in school. You need to bring what really matters not not you. Let a guy who duck the army twice with foot with phony letters, I don’t know how that’s not Fraud if I was supposed to go to the army army twice wouldn’t that call for me to be investigated and be charged for fraud on phone phones shouldn’t be charged for that but you guys run around here calling out veterans and fire and veterans and JD Van saying he’s a veteran and watching the veterans go down this is why I say you put them boys back on the battlefield. I guarantee you veterans will probably put them in the back put them in the back. Yeah they probably send them out to clean the mind as you know, they used to do to the black, servicemen back in the days they used to send them off the plane knowing they was gonna die. They used to send them off the plane to clean mines knowing that they’re gonna die. They used to send them off the planes and shot them while they’re getting shot by the opposition, tell me America if I’m lying about that didn’t you do that to the black serviceman you let them jump off the plane you shot at them but those same black servicemen help us win the war it wasn’t just American white blood they died just like everybody else they died and coward faster the black servicemen help us win the war from air and ground Those Jews, the Jews they help us war to so many races that they’re not telling you that helped you win this war World War I and two America is lying to you guys and that’s what’s been the problem for decades. America is lying to the people and they won’t take acceptability But JD Von he’s gonna get the president of United States. I’d rather vote for pence I’d rather vote for the same guy you say you wanted to vote for him for president then JD Vance if we had to put vice president up there and you had a choice out of say the Democrats loss and you had a choice out of JD Vance or pence I had to choose pence, I would choose Cristi. I would choose them near my feet. It doesn’t have a name to go into. I choose my feet. I would choose somebody else’s feet then put a despicable guy like JD vans a couch hump like JD vans AAA I can’t find a white bread American apple pie woman to marry but I had to go out and use my catalog to buy a woman from out-of-state pregnant her and give her a green card JD vans hell fuck fuck noyou will never get my vote even when you die. You won’t get my vote even when they died you won’t get my vote. Good luck, sir.

Canadians are frustrated and are choosing to stop buying U.S. products, but Trudeau escalating tensions into a trade war with a partner is just escalating the issue. Plus Canada cannot win this battle. \n\nLeadership change - Trudeau needs to go. Every time Trudeau opens and closes the door he creates a mess. \n\n(Note: open discussions on current events is essential, its too bad the Canadian shut down our rights to speak on media platforms)

Thank You Prime Minister Trudeau. As an American I am going to Carson City, Nevada today to protest and I WILL protest until this comes to an end one way or the other. I also will NOT be buying anything unless it is a necessity. This is what I will be doing to help. Please press like if you will be joining me. ??????

There you go America !!!\n\nListen to a Strong, Young, well Articulated Prime Minister tell you how Americans will pay the price on thos trade war.\n\nWe Canadians will also pay the price, so we buy Canadian products \nand will never buy US again.\n\nI am so proud of our Prime Minister.

So much for saving the economy and lowering grocery prices on day 1. I’m so exhausted when it comes to the USA and half of its citizens. Inflation up everything up lol I’m never going there again or buying anything American if I can help it. Enjoy your Russification dimwits.

With an economy smaller than California by a long shot(Canada 2.3 trillion vs CA 3.9 trillion), I'm not sure what this is really going to do on paper...this is a negotiation...be patient...time to buy in the market when the prices are down...
2025-03-04 0
We are not going to buy usa products so who cares WHAT price they are. We will never forget this betrayal.

He did exactly what I thought he was going to do the tariffs are targeting American farmers and food production we sell America 80 percent of our potash. I mean buckle up America your food is about to get a lot more expensive from the moment it starts growing till you buy it.

This Is A Business Move By Trump, When All These Business Start Going Bankrupt He And His Friends Are Going To Buy Them And They Assets Up.
2025-03-04 0
You can bet your butt, friends of Trump are either shorting or buying stocks in whatever direction they know the market will go because of the Tariff wars. \nRooting for you Canada and Mexico. Make that money, Trump says we’re gonna have so much more money now.

Are we going to talk about REITs and companies like Starlight investments buying thousands of residential properties? These should be straight up outlawed. Turning housing into a speculative commodity is the worst mistake we have ever made as Canadians.
2025-03-03 0
The rule in Canada is ‘my adult children cannot afford to buy in the neighborhood they grew up in!…housing prices have to go down!\n\nWhat they really mean is they want their next door neighbours to sell THEIR house for $250,000, but still want their own hose to be worth $2.8 million (after paying $135,000 for it in 1985 - like my older sister and her family)….\n\nSorry it doesn’t work that way….oh, and forget about them voting for parties which restrict immigration - if immigration goes down, so will the regular increases in the price of housing….

For 2 decades Canadian cities have had a condo building boom (for non-North Americans, a condo(minium) is a building built by developers with the intent of selling off the apartments individually, instead of the whole building being one large rental property - that's a rental building) with the rather strange peculiarity that the bast majority of those condos are small - studios, one bedroom and one bedroom + den (in North American real estate linguo, a den is a small room without a window). There are some two bedroom apartments, and three+ bedroom apartments are very rare. One of the reasons for this is a general mindset that apartments are for singles, young childless couples and retired empty-nesters, while families are supposed to live in a house of their own. Another reason is that some archaic building codes restrict the type of apartments developers can fit in a building. The result of this is that in a country which certainly does not lack space, there are now tons of small apartments (the demand for which has been going down in many areas), but it's too expensive to afford a larger space to buy (whether a house or one of those rare large apartments) once you want to start a family.

Thing to note\n1) The great world reset was fabricated to hyper inflate life. This is not a canada only phenomenon\n\n2) in canada and the us hedge funds and corporate investors are buying houses on mass. Hyperinflating their prices. And the government of both countries allows even foriegn investors to do it (even if they pretend to put guardrails to slow or thwart this its so easy to circumvent for people with infinite resources)\n\n3) why does the govt allow this because it makes the multiple properties they own on mass also go up. So it's a case of the rich helping each other be richer\n\nYou are all just saying misinformation that was spoon fed to you to distract you from the truth

States needs to deputize citizens after being vetted and going thru a training course by sheriffs offices to help them weed out the illegals and drug houses most citizens knows whats happening in ther neighborhoods i do they are several in my area but the law turns a blind eye to them they are buying up land and houses with cartel money they dont work but they have several vechicles costing over 100.000 dollars and remolding houses and out of state vechicles show up every week or two and stays a day or less and leaves

it's going to work. Canada wont go to sell in EU or China it's over seas way to long and most of the times still has to go thru the US lol it's to costly for one, and EU just wont cover all the cost, forget the logistic nightmare. US is like a 2 hour drive away!! big big difference. So simple, trumps tariffs will make Canadien companies sell there product higher so they dont lose to much profits. what does that do? US wont buy! then companies shut down, people loose their jobs. very simple. Many go on welfare for a year, when they run out older one or less educated one cant find jobs etc...Trump will kill Canada plain and simple. that's it that's all. He want our resources and will do it, we are done for. this will also kill truck drivers and many many many side workers. until we are part of the US.

When I visit the UK I used to go via JFK and the PA terminal but I dare not any more. Wishing safety and huge respect to the lovely Peter Pan Trailways drivers. That company always checked passports /ID before you can buy a ticket and again at the gate.

I don't understand why any of the citizens of NYC would vote for this governer. Wake up people and remove her from office. Get ride of all those city coucils workers who want to make profit off of your lack of safety. What they are doing is pure evil. Even over here in upstate NY I feel unsafe going to the farmers market. I see a lot of foreign people getting aid to buy there. I don't know who they are or if they are good people. They could be dangerous criminals. Our past President just let everyone in. Pure evil! I want to see this governors funding removed and maybe some jail time. For sure loss of position.

Indians coming from Punjab, Haryana and Gujrat are not skilled or highly educated, they are coming to HAVE FUN, buy expensive cars, ladki baazi, daaru baazi. They better go back to India.

I think that’s comparable to cost of living in Australia. So people with a high paying job and skills are necessary to have a good stress free life. If you are struggling to get a good job it’s going to be tough. Especially if you live far away and need to spend on fuel and rent or the cost of buying a house. It’s skewed towards highly skilled and people who already have a good savings account balance

GIRL. Buy a clue. We have TWENTY FIVE MILLION illegals here who are going home. WTF do you think gets to pay for these L?!

Why don’t the government look and see how many days a week how many years we work and so you know what let’s give this family since they’re not making as much as a rich family and let’s go to this upper class Rich family at work hard let’s give them a break where they need it see People can’t spend money or throw money at certain things and expect people to get by but if you wanna come somewhere, why do they do it like this because they see the blacks act crazy in America that’s why they thought they could come to America and do the same thing. It’s common damn sense manjust like a white collar criminal he’ll look in the face and tell you that there’s nothing he can do and there’s a lot he could’ve done and did and do.? but the problem is we need to stick together as people and not let our jobs dictate who we are and make us think we’re better than the average person that only makes $30,000 a year and can’t buy their children the nicest things that they would like because the most important thing to them is having a roof over their head and paying the bills and that’s what upsets me with people in this world they got all this help to fight drugs they got all in the world to fight this, but what about the little guy? What about the little woman the little family guy look out for them?? can’t just say oh here’s church food that shit ain’t good enough. I’m very thankful to the churches that help people with some of them food banks even a church knows it doesn’t help it gets them bye and if you think getting by is healthy when you can’t work a good day because your stomach‘s so low because your children are more important to eat than you? this is why America can’t take care of their own because they’re too busy taking care of the fake

Trump says EU tariffs will ‘definitely happen’ as Mexico, Canada and China retaliate \nTrump takes softer line on UK, saying ‘I think that one can be worked out’, while Mexico and Canada vow levies and to strengthen ties with each other \n \nPhilip Wen, Léonie Chao-Fong and agencies \nMon 3 Feb 2025 03.57 GMT \nShare \nDonald Trump has threatened to widen the scope of his trade tariffs, repeating his warning that the European Union – and potentially the UK – will face levies, even as he conceded that Americans could bear some of the economic brunt of a nascent global trade war. \n \nIt comes as Trump’s tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China, announced on Saturday, sparked retaliation from all three countries. Mexico and Canada have vowed levies of their own while China and Canada are seeking legal challenges. \n \nTrump said on Sunday night that new tariffs on the EU will “definitely happen”, repeating previous complaints about the large US trade deficit with the bloc and his desire for Europe to import more American cars and agricultural products. \n \nEmpty shelves remain with signs ''Buy Canadian Instead'' after the top five US liquor brands were removed from sale at a British Columbia liquor store in Vancouver. \nAsian sharemarkets tumble in response to Trump tariffs \nRead more \n“It will definitely happen with the European Union, I can tell you that,” he told reporters. “I wouldn’t say there’s a timeline but it’s going to be pretty soon.” \n \nTrump appeared to take a softer line on the UK, citing a good relationship with prime minister Keir Starmer while saying tariffs still “might happen”. “The UK is out of line but I’m sure that one, I think that one can be worked out,” he said. \n \n“Well Prime Minister Starmer’s been very nice, we’ve had a couple of meetings, we’ve had numerous phone calls, we’re getting along very well, we’ll see whether or not we can balance out our budget.” \n \nIn Canada, the department of finance published a list of US products imported into Canada that it will target with a 25% retaliatory tariff starting on Tuesday. \n \nThe list shows products that will be hit in the first round of retaliatory tariffs by Canada starting on Tuesday, and mounts to $30bn Canadian dollars’ worth of goods (about US$20bn). The impacted products include tobacco, produce, household appliances, firearms and military gear. \n \nCanada is also preparing for a second, broader round of retaliatory tariffs in 21 days that will target an additional C$125bn (US$86bn) worth of US imports. The second list would include passenger vehicles, trucks, steel and aluminum products, certain fruits and vegetables, beef, pork, dairy products and more. \n \nFILES-US-CANADA-MEXICO-CHINA-TRADE-TARIFFS<br>(FILES) US President Donald Trump speaks to the press after signing an executive order in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, DC on January 31, 2025. Trump is imposing steep tariffs on major US trading partners Canada, Mexico and China, with a lower rate on Canadian energy imports, said the White House on February 1, 2025. Washington will impose a 25 percent levy on imports from Canada and Mexico, with a 10 percent rate on Canadian energy resources, until both work with the United States on drug trafficking and immigration. Goods from China, said the White House, would face 10 percent tariffs. (Photo by Mandel NGAN / AFP) (Photo by MANDEL NGAN/AFP via Getty Images) \nTop Democrats warn tariffs will hit Americans hard as Trump says it’s ‘worth the price’ \nRead more \nClaudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s president, said her government will provide more details on the retaliatory tariffs she ordered on US goods on Monday. Sheinbaum, in a statement on Sunday, said she will announce details on her government’s “plan B” as she insisted that Mexico “doesn’t want confrontation”. \n \n“Problems are not addressed by imposing tariffs, but with talks and dialogue,” she said. “Sovereignty is not negotiable: coordination yes, subordination no.” \n \n'Coordination yes, subordination no': Mexican president responds to Trump's tariffs – video \nSheinbaum and Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau spoke by phone on Saturday after Trump’s administration imposed the new tariffs – 25% on goods from Canada and Mexico, with a lower rate of 10% for Canadian oil, and 10% on imports from China. \n \nTrudeau’s office said in a statement that Canada and Mexico agreed “to enhance the strong bilateral relations” between their countries. Canadian officials have had extensive dialogue with their Mexican counterparts, but a senior Canadian official said he would not go as far as to say the tariff responses were coordinated. \n \n“Now is the time to choose products made right here in Canada,” Trudeau posted Sunday on X. “Check the labels. Let’s do our part. Wherever we can, choose Canada.” \n \nTrump acknowledged the sweeping tariffs he has imposed on Mexico, Canada and China may cause “short term” pain for Americans as global markets reflected concerns the levies could undermine growth and reignite inflation. Asian markets, cryptocurrencies and US and European stock futures slumped in early Asian trading on Monday. \n \n“We may have short term some little pain, and people understand that. But long term, the United States has been ripped off by virtually every country in the world,” he said. day, Trudeau said: “We’re certainly not looking to escalate, but we will stand up for Canada.” However on Sunday evening, a senior government official from Canada briefing reporters in Ottowa on condition of anonymity said: “We will obviously pursue the legal recourse that we believe we have through the agreements that we share with the United States.” \n \nThe official said the Canadian government considered the move by Trump illegal and said it violates the trade commitments between the two countries under their free trade agreement and under the World Trade Organization. \n \n“If other legal avenues are available to us, they will be considered as well,” the official said. \n \nCanada is the largest export market for 36 states, and Mexico is the largest trading partner of the US. \n \nCanada and Mexico ordered the tariffs despite Trump’s further threat to increase the duties charged if retaliatory levies are placed on US goods. \n \nChina also said it would file a lawsuit against the tariffs. The imposition of tariffs by the US “seriously violates” World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, China’s commerce ministry said in a statement, urging the US to “engage in frank dialogue and strengthen cooperation”. \n \nFiling a lawsuit with the WTO would be a largely symbolic move that Beijing has also taken against tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles by the EU. \n \nThe commerce ministry also said the tariffs were “not only unhelpful in solving the US’s own problems, but also undermine normal economic and trade cooperation”. China has said it would take countermeasures to “safeguard its own rights and interests”. It is not clear exactly what form these will take yet. But for weeks Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning has said Beijing believes there is no winner in a trade war. \n \nLate Sunday night, Trump said he would speak with Trudeau on Monday morning and shortly after said he would speak with Mexico as well, although he did not specify that he would speak with Sheinbaum. \n \nBeyond the official response, people were already thinking of ways to cope with Trump’s decision, including by sharing suggestions on social media for alternatives to US products. \n \nCanadian hockey fans booed the US national anthem on Saturday night at two National Hockey League games. The booing continued on Sunday at an NBA game in Toronto where the Raptors played the Los Angeles Clippers. \n \nFrom left to right, Toronto Raptors forwards Bruce Brown, Scottie Barnes and Chris Boucher react as fans boo the United States national anthem before NBA basketball game action against the Los Angeles Clippers in Toronto, Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025. (Frank Gunn/The Canadian Press via AP) \nToronto Raptors fans boo US national anthem after Donald Trump tariffs \nRead more \nOne fan at the Raptors game chose to sit during the anthem while wearing a Canada hat. Joseph Chua, who works as an importer, said he expects to feel the tariffs “pretty directly”. “I’ve always stood during both anthems. I’ve taken my hat off to show respect to the American national anthem, but today we’re feeling a little bitter about things,” he said, adding that he will start to avoid buying US products. \n \nIn the streets, people in Mexico were trying to absorb the announcement on Sunday, although some in the capital acknowledged that they were unaware of the measures. \n \nIn the border city of Mexicali, across from Calexico, California, some people were concerned about the wider implications of a trade war. \n \nDriver Alejandro Acosta says that he crosses the border weekly in his truck to deliver vegetables to US companies. He said he fears US businesses in the Mexicali Valley will no longer want to operate in Mexico and they will move to the US. \n \n“If they raise taxes on the factories here, jobs may also decrease,” he said.

We as Americans can make the drug war go away. Just stop buying fentanyl and other poisonous substances. It’s supply and demand; if there is money to be made by fulfilling a demand, someone will provide. Don’t blame Canada or Mexico or China for our fentanyl crisis. We must support our citizens with the needed assistance to overcome addiction and offer assistance to prevent those not yet involved with fentanyl.

CANADIANS SHOULD START BUYING CANADIAN PRODUCTS AND SERVICES. GO CANADIANS
2025-02-02 0
It's not just all the parties supporting Canada's counter tariffs. The Canadian people are in support, across political, cultural, economic and geographical lines. Canada has not been as unified about anything that I can remember (and I'm old). Plus, Canadians are a stubborn people with a more community oriented attitude than the USA and we don't like bullies. If we have to change brands of food, stop drinking bourbon and American beer, pay a bit more, even pay more taxes to cover the costs for people affected... so be it. BUT... when the tariff's are lifted, don't be so sure we'll just start buying American again. Stubborn also means we don't let things go easily.

All the people in comment \nNot going to buy usa products \nWhat does usa make you need ??\nI have nothing made in usa\nClothes food electronics etcetc

A lot of us Americans remember learning about the tariff wars in history class that ended up in deciding fair trade was the better route. I fear we’re about to learn the same lesson again…\n\nAs far as the drug trade goes apparently the GOV doesn’t spend enough time on the internet because the cartels are no longer just in Mexico they’re in the USA and in Canada. They have learned the Canadian border is a lot easier to cross and they can get into BC pretty easily due to relaxed immigration policies In Canada.. they probably don’t actually know where the drugs are coming from or where they’re being manufactured entirely. The cartels are probably a step ahead of them at the moment. \n\nI can’t believe the auto industry lobbyists were not instructed to go full send on the detriment of the opposite position taken from the NAFTA. The only thing I can see is auto sales are slumping and maybe they can blame this on the tariff policy for massive restructuring. \n\nI kind of understand wanting to negotiate with Mexico because they probably buy less American goods than Americans buy Mexican goods (drugs excluding) but I’m guessing Canada is a better customer of American goods than Americans are of Canadian goods. Why would you want to upset a good partner, customer, and ally!? It’s Beyond my comprehension…. If Trump was really smart he’d convince some factories to actually invest in Mexico with cooperation from the Mexican government investing in efficient transportation from the manufacturing sectors to the American border and the coasts for distribution. This would likely really help their economy and change the whole dynamic of all the things Trump has issues with. Fix it at the source not try to treat the symptoms.

Hopefully people around the world respond by buying as little as possible from the US (especially from the billionaires and states that support Trump). Trump is going to try to divide and conquer, and if the US will attack Canada, no democracy is immune.
2025-02-02 0
So let me get this straight. Trudeau is imposing tariffs on the U.S. to make everything Canadians import from the U.S. that they need more expensive to Canadians and Trump is doing the same thing for everything from Canada though we need none of it and therefore will stop buying any of it. This will not go well for Canada. Ouch!!!
2025-02-02 0
Mexico and Canada imposing tariffs on the US is not going to hurt us like they think. We have more ships and planes and are able to move more goods faster to other countries who will buy. Not to mention the fact that Mexico and Canada were never fair to us in trading. In the end they will have hurt themselves way more then the US. Why do you think Trump has done this and most of us are not worried.
2025-02-01 0
Who going to buy 79% of Canada goods exported to USA?
2025-02-01 1
Im a Canadian and only % of drugs or people go across our boarders so what Trump is saying is again not true. Americans kill Americans .... Canadians do not kill Americans. WE will not bow down to a bully. Trump cant manage his own drug problems so he has to blame others. Canadian will work hard and not buy American goods. We will do our part and stand with our governments decision on our Tariffs. Trump is a sick man and is acting like a spoiled child. He cant manage his own country so he attacks ours...Canada will be here standing strong long after Trump is gone.

Was due to fly to Denver on Thursday for a short vacation. Immediately changed destination to Bermuda tonight. Canada is definitely more vulnerable but i think US is under appreciating how united Canadians can be when pushed. Well literally not buy a single thing from US from goods to vacations aslong as this goes on. If Canada is going down well drag the US down with it

TRUMP pushing back.on the liberal bullies . Pushing comunism and ripping offthe american people. We don't need your products anyway . Keep voting for crooks that run your countries for decades now. Going to buy a tesla to support free speach and doge .

Buy domestic or go without.
2025-02-01 0
All in it's still going to be cheaper to import from the US than to buy in Canada. Thanks Trudeau ?

There is in fact no actual housing shortage in the USA whatsoever. The problem is that that wealthy individuals have strong incentives to park excess capital in real estate and landlords have strong incentives to maintain asset values through cash flow potential (appraised through $/sq.ft rent revenues). What ends up happening in both cases is that you end up with lots of empty houses sitting collecting dust artificially gaining value due to scarcity, and with rentals, you end up with perpetually inflated rents and vacancy rates that are as high as a landlord can tolerate just to maintain the appearance of value to the lenders. Often these owners will borrow more money and use an apartment that might be 40% vacant as the collateral for the lender and go buy another building and so on. What people don't penalize is the fact that that 40% vacant building with 60% rented out at above fair value gets treated on the balance sheet to the bank as if its 90% rented out from an asset value perspective thereby setting the asset price artificially high. Simple legislation of the tax code can fix this issue and unlock lots of sidelined housing. All we have to do is progressively tax 2nd 3rd 4th ect. homes higher and higher rates that essentially cancel out the asset gains, and do something similar for vacant units in a apartment building. \nIts just at the core a case of the rich hoarding something that has been made artificially rare. On top of all of this, because of how valuable properties have become, there are now many interests that capitalize on the entire process of building new housing that make it ever more expensive. Our taxes are funding numerous regulators that stymie new development, while the developers have to then hire numerous attorneys and planners to pitch a project and litigate it through the cities to get approvals. This can take over 10 years in a major city. All this contributes to the ridiculous costs of building these days.

I’m from Vancouver bc and it upsets me that this site keeps saying oh we need skilled workers not labourers I’m a skilled worker born and bred in bc 10 years experience painter can’t get a job unless I get 10$ less per hour than 2014 and carpentry same thing. The employers want only Indian and Mexican workers because there cheap. This Friday I’m going homeless with my dog because I can’t find work or affordable housing. Government saying we need skilled workers is a scam they want cheap workers no sense of safety or Canadian culture. How did the government let this happen we’re fucked also how did wages not go up when cost of living doubled I don’t care about being able to buy a 1.5 million dollar house but the locals should be able to get by

I am an immigrant from India so what i am going to say is a harsh truth. A lot of people come to Canada and then expect to do the same things they were used to do in their own countries. They forms groups, buy house in the same ethnic neighbourhoods as theirs. Because of this they do not grow. Lots of people who have been in Canada for decades cant speak english properly. They bring issues of their own country with them. They just don’t grow.
