I am from India and I never seen my b Sikh friends roaming everywhere with a kirpan . If your in another country respect their culture and rules . Don’t try to show off. The cop was right . He was roaming with a dangerous weapon.

With due respect for everyone's religious sentiments, I think creating exception here and there is fine as long as it does not violate safety related rules. Naamdhari sikhs should think of ways to carry their religious identity within the ambit of evolving social norms and rules.

I speak for myself and not on behalf of anyone.\n\nFirstly, in any such situation be it any religion, caste etc, before reacting, imagine if this was happening to your own son/daughter, your own brother/sister. \n\nSecondly what faith one chooses to practice and how they embrace it, be it wearing a kirpan, a burqa, or keeping a shika(choti), etc, especially opinions like what one can or cannot wear/do, lead to more harm than good. We don't live there, it's not our religion, it's not our life, then who are we to condemn and be opinionated about them.\n\nThirdly, whether the kirpan should be allowed inside an educational campus can only be determined by the campus authorities, the local police and the Sikh community representatives there.\n\nYes, he could have and should have worn it on the inside just like so many Brahmins wear the sacred white thread (yajnopavita).\n\nHe could have taken prior permission from the college authorities to freely wear it if possible and all this could have been avoided. Maybe he doesn't get the permission to wear it, who knows, there are countless possibilities.\n\nAnd lastly, I've come across so many comments labelling the Sikhs as Khalistanis, then if there's some other incident, commenting that people of so and so faith are terrorists, etc.\n\nBy all means, please call us Khalistanis, please call us terrorists, call us anything you like, but we'll continue to respect and love everyone.\n\nIt's a shame that our Jawaans are dying on the border fighting for their country, fighting for our country, fighting for us and we are creating divisions amongst ourselves. Sikhs can carry knives in india, its legal for them here, but not every country allows u to do that.. we must respect rules of every country. Religions come 2nd, 1st will always be the law of land.

Being a religious person, this really pissed me off, as I respect sikhs and their belief, this was really saddening, you could really see that he felt insulted in video?

To all the people sayimg that university is not a ppace to carry knives , should learn about sikhism and sikh faith. This kind if arogance shows how much educated you people are and how much respect you in your hearts towards other religions or cultures! Firstly, Learn one thing that american law allows sikhs(baptised sikhs only) to wear kirpan everywhere, evem the Uk and canada have the same laws for sikhs! These things arr considered very important in sikhism , the weapons are the reason for the existence of sikhs in present times! Our religion tella us to respect weapons like food and tells us to possess the most advance weapons, not for any kind of criminal activity but for self defence, good deeds and the race of existence! And Dont forget the 2nd amendment! At last i want to ask that why all hindus are against the sikh? Are'nt hindus living in the same country as sikhs? Should'nt they be aware of sikh faith and traditions? Hindus in thia comment section are a disapointment! The problem is that often times due to religious practices, a lot of people from minority communities are targeted and have to undergo a lot of scruitiny. Sikhs are amongst the most kind and generous people in the world, apart from being brave, sure this world makes a joke out of them but it is important for people to understand that our religion is important to us, we do follow the rules and regulations laid down by the country but others too have to respect who we are and where we come from, it might seem odd to carry around a kirpan but then again that is no reason to violate someone like this, or their religion's sancitity.

Being a critical sardar myself, i can certainly say that our community is the most dangerous which comes very close to being called a terrorist outfit, because of the way we behave with outsiders or with different community people..Like we say about Islam being a terrorist supporting faith, Sikh may not support bombings, & killings but they do cause a violent protest(acts of vandalism, hooliganism fully supported by the faith itself is a total shame) in case something is said or goes against them, which is nothing but being TERRORISTS. I no longer like to associate with sardars because of the shame they have brought with their actions.\nI only say, \n1. become TOLERANT, \n2. RESPECT THE LAW OF THE LAND, \n3. Ive read much about the philosophy and history of the Sikh people and faith, and have immense respect for them. Even though historically they have been opressed by some muslims kingdoms, mostly today I see that they are able to put aside old history for a bette future, and for holding on to the tennants of their faith and philosophy. I say this having some sikh friends, as a Muslim from Malaysia.
