For me a Québécois, we missed the boat in 1995. Too bad if you don’t like it but we got screwed by newly arrived immigrants back then and we are being drowned by immigrants now. The difference is that you too in the ROC are being drowned. I am a Quebec nationalist, it’s in my guts. My family has roots going back to New France. Since for me this place is where I feel the most a part of and have understood long ago that the ROC had done everything to negate us as a people a nation and the dream of an independent country with close ties to the ROC is and probably never was in the cards, I have started hoping for some kind of political union with mother France since it has become painfully clear that Canada as a strong bicultural self respecting truly independent country is a bygone notion. Just look at our military, it’s a monumental farce. Look at the insane levels of immigration, we cannot support this!! PERIOD!!! Look at way we genuflect to the US’s economic visions without questioning anymore. The Quebec people are a nation, Canada unfortunately is only a notion. For me getting out of Canada is also a reality except since this place never was one of a cash cow there only to send funds to some family elsewhere I believe we Québécois and Québécoise, with the respect for the First Nations that we have always owed them, need to go our way. I don't want to make things harder for you but i want to warn you that the grass is never greener on the other side. I am very disappointed with Canada to be honest. My wife and i are moving from Alberta to New Brunswick next week in search of a quieter, calmer, cheaper life. Let's see what happens. I completely agree with all of your points. The thing about Canada is the the unaffordable housing crisis is also tied to high unemployment and too many immigrants coming in from the Far East and Middle East countries. Now that they are closer to the US with the best job opportunities in the world currently it’s best to come here at all cost. If it drives up home prices and rents no problem because the government is dangerous when it’s in debt needs higher tax revenue. It’s screws with the population that’s already here.

One of the problems here is we have ZERO vacancy rates , which makes it worse ...we have nowhere to put them, Then there's our foreign student problem which is very complicated and involve CON MEN in India , who have contacts/ family here and work the system. Up to and including helping them get drivers permits...illegally. There's all sorts of loop holes , how we found out about the drivers permits, why traffic accidents became more frequent of course. Then there's the fake colleges they set up and yeah the student gets a minimum wage job and lives in a house stacked with ppl in the same boat as them. Then find out they being rooked and stay with no education or if they do get a legit school they can't stay here and become a citizen because they can't find work in the higher professions ( doctor ) because the system is screwed then they move back home with a good education and leave us with gaps in our medical system. It's complicated and won't be solved anytime soon on either side.

Canadian here, have lived in the UK, the Caribbean and the US since 2018. Every country is screwed in its own way. There are few enclaves for English speakers. You have to go to an area (which may not be country specific but could be state/province/city specific) where your industry thrives and you can get a job/visa/sponsorship etc. It's not pretty. I'm so tired of it. I just don't think there's a way to not be screwed if you're a millennial. The way they built the economy around the world after WW2 is collapsing but the older generations continue to believe. And they have higher numbers.

The oligarchs around the world are able to make an immense amount of money by keeping housing unaffordable. It is the same in Australia, the US, United Kingdom and so on. Regardless of the party in the Canadian government, many of the officials are invested in the housing market themselves, so barring some kind of economic emergency or catastrophe, housing costs are not going to go down any time soon. I was living in Montreal and 4 kg of beef ribs cost $116. The food costs combined with the housing, guarantee that Canadians will be screwed for years to come.

Inflation is higher than what they say.. real estate prices are out of touch with the actual wages and salaries.. cost of food is unbelievable… rent is ridiculous.. I stopped visiting Canada 40 years ago because of insane or corrupt border control policies. I traveled to Canada from California to record an album for a popular rock star. My crew number 4 people and we had reserves a month for basic tracking in a studio there. We bought our own reels of 3 inch wide recording tape because the studio wanted twice the rate as normal and since my studio was a distributor for the mastering tapes we brought from my own inventory. Each reel of tape was 3 lbs and brought 30 reels. We got to customs and they said we owed money for importing the tape. Normally a reel would have been $180, and customs wanted $38,000 x 20, and would not let us retrieve it to take it back to the US side of the border. How can a tape worth $180 suddenly have duty of $38,000?\nIt was explained to me as the Potential Value of the tape which meant AFTER a hit song was recording in it. Most recordings are total losses and the tape cant used on a new project even if properly bulk-erased. They expected me to pay on the spot $760,000 in duties. I gave up and left the tape with them. I called the artist and said we could not do the project in Canada and we went back to California. The artist came to us a few months later and the result was a minor hit, and probably barely made its production cost since the label only distributed it in Canada. I talked to an international trade lawyer about what happened and he said customs officials were wrong in Canada but they are given full latitude with no appeal so his advice was never take anything over the border that I did not mind being confiscated. Sometimes they would let it in because it was going back out in a month, but likely they sold it off and pocketed the money. The US is corrupt on a federal level but Canada is corrupt on the local level. I moved out of the US 24 years ago have a much higher quality of life than is even possible in the US, and live very cheaply. Total cost of living with a very active social and cultural life impossible to duplicate in the US which as some of the least options for culture. And my cost of living is $1500 a month, less than utilities alone for one house in California, and that is for 2 people. Last month for example I attended world class opera, ballet and symphonies 9 times, and went out to dinner, in jazz clubs or dance clubs, visited12 top museums, and it was still under $1500 for the month. A pair of tickets to the MET in NYC for lower grade performance, sets, orchestra ad theater, was $1800!! $600 for tickets to drama for 2. Here there 237 drama theaters within walking distance of my city center home, and can walk anywhere at any time of day and be safe due to VERY low crime rates. Free medical is good. I am not citizen but still I had an operation and 10 days in a vip single room for $5300 and despite my insurance I had been paying back in California $824.month, it was going to cost me out o pocket $500,000 and one day in a recovery 12 bed room, and require paid nursing attendant for 30 days. The results were great and was treated like king.\nCanadians have lost control of their government but Americas are screwed regardless, with lower than international standards for everything, with crime, corruption in Washington, extreme cost of living, no access to culture, few if any safe parks. My adopted city is not only far more beautiful than any US city, my GF can walk, alone, anywhere in a city of 7mil at any time of day through any of the 600 beautiful parks open 24/7..at 3am. There are no homeless, and 80% of those over 20yo own their home clear of debt. No college debt despite twice the % of people having degrees. The rest of the world caught up and has surpassed the US and Europe in quality of life. \n\nI have only been back to the US 5 times in 24 years and each time I am shocked by how much the entire society has declined while most of the world outside of Europe, Canada, US, UK or Australia have dramatically improved.\nEvery year since 2008 more Americans leave the US to live elsewhere than legal immigrants arrive.

I lived in the US for 30 years. I hated every year, except for having my sons there. My American husband is a staunch NRA supporter. At the 30 year mark, when I gave him an ultimatum. I gave him 30 years down there, and the time had come where he needed to do 30 years in Canada. We've been in Canada for 6 years, and he doesn't ever want to go back.\nI feel for the new mothers, who only get 6 weeks maternity leave (8 weeks for C-Section).\nCanadian Mums get a full year. Nurturing your new baby is necessary for a well-balanced child. You can't bond in 6 weeks. \nYour health insurance is nuts. We paid $1500/mo. just for our family. Then you have a $5k deductible first! Just walking into the ER is $500 and THEN add on labs, x-rays, meds, etc. My son was in mental health treatment and our insurance capped mental health at $25k for life. \nThe biggest slap up my head, was when I found out I CAN'T collect my SSI. I paid a lot of taxes, since we made 6 figures/year. So, now I'm screwed, since they won't pay a former Permanent Resident. Had I been a citizen, I could get it. My husband is a PR in Canada, waiting to take his citizenship test. If he applies for SSI, he needs to go down to the States for 30 days and nights, annually. \nI'm from Toronto, born and raised and I am so happy to have my feet back in my own country. My boys are still there, as well as my grandchildren. Thankfully, they fly up twice a year. You couldn't pay me to move back.

I’ve been privileged to actually live and work for long periods of time in USA, Netherlands, and China…and in a variety of locations in each country. Until recently, I’d have chosen Canada without hesitation. Canada has been rocketing into an ideological cesspool rivalling China, but so has USA and the Netherlands. As for the future…if I were middle aged (as opposed to OLD!) I would go to southeast USA Fla or Tx. Not because they are ‘better ‘ right now, but I believe USA still has a chance to sort itself out but Canada is simply too screwed up and corrupt (morally, politically, socially, & financially) to recover at least in my lifetime. I was living in northern China (Harbin) when that idiot Trudeau became PM and hoped he had a chance to improve things in general. But it is clear he (or whoever is pulling his vapid strings) has been a disaster and his current opposition shows signs of being equally awful. I believe US citizens care far more for their constitution and freedoms and more aware of the perilous situation they’re in than Canadians, many of whom still believe we have a functioning health care system. All this is coming to you from a Canadian septuagenerian, highly educated by what was (decades ago) the best educational system in the Western Hemisphere. One who benefited from a wonderful health care system before it got farmed out to private corporations and became a haven for niche specialties while starving out the family physicians who were the front line for proactive family care. Canadian (Albertan here) - yes, i don't think i'd move to the States unless it was reasonably close (maybe Montana) with fewer people - i'd like to identify as a Hermit :). I motorcycle and have travelled majority of the States, from coast to coast, and i really do like the country side and scenery, and history, that you run through. I do a 4000-6000 mile tripe every year or two - did Tennessee last year, and Colorado this summer. A lot of absolutely amazing country really, and yes some really great people as well. Have run into some real odd people as well and some places i wanted to get out of pretty quick. I do like the fact the US hasn't bought into this woke agenda and politically correctness - it's absolutely nuts up here. I like the gun laws in the States, too bad we're so screwed over that in Canada. Gotta love Trump - may be a bit of a bozo but hey - the guy lays it out and owns his shit, every other polititician plays the blame game and does everything politically correct... End of day, i'd prefer to stay in Canada, either Alberta or British Columbia.

I support the current US immigration system but that’s because I’m against immigration and letting half the world in. Canada can have them and all the awful consequences that have occurred in their country since. Not talking about the individual people btw, more cost of living is much higher and wages are lower and much more stagnant and how Canada went from a really decent place to worse than the US in basically everything.\n\nImmigrants are ok…in limit. Americans shouldn’t be ok with letting in half the worlds just because of some concept like multiculturalism and diversity that are actually very classist to the average Canadian and American and screw over most already present minorities. The US should NOT be like Canada at all on this.

As an international student to the US, it's all so extremely stressful as mentioned by this video. First, after you graduate you have 90 days to find a job before being deported. Then, when you do find a job, you can only work for a year unless you're stem, then you can work for another company for another 2 years. Then there's the H1-B. Suffice to say, the lottery system is completely random. It doesn't matter how smart you are or how talented you are, H1-B is a lottery and you could get screwed over at any moment.\n\nIf you so much as dare to be unemployed (like in the recent tech firings), you have 90 days to find a new job before you're deported. Also h1-B only lasts for 6 years. Also moving companies on H1-B is a really hard ask. \n\nIt's all too cruel. Even I am considering moving to Canada myself.

I'm an American who moved to Canada. Would I ever move back? Probably not. The US is so screwed up right now that I can't imagine ever moving back into that malstrom. Most Americans don't realize the laughing stock Trump has made of the US. Trudeau isn't great but Donald Trump makes Trudeau look like a saint. And socialized medicine, while imperfect still beats the US medical insurance situation. Less litter, less congestion and more politeness. That's Canada compared to the US.

For all the amazing things the US has to offer, right now we don't even want to visit there, let alone move there. We've talked about it a lot, but nope. In Canada, generally speaking (although there are exceptions to every rule) we have no idea what political leaning our neighbors favor. Political campaigns last no more than 51 days; they do not start the day after the last election and go on for years. This way, elected officials actually do some work instead of campaigning. Right now, the politics in the US, as well as the judiciary, are literally insane. Gun violence in the US is insane, as is the attitude towards guns. It shouldn't take a shooting that affects you personally to make you care about it, and it's not just at schools. The US has had 28 mass killings, with 140 victims, in 6 months... but the problem is that no one down there cares about that enough to stop it, or even discuss ways to stop it. The politics is so sold out to corporations that what is good for the people just doesn't matter. It is capitalism run amok. Environmental protections? They are an inconvenience, and most of them were rolled back a few years ago under the presidency of He Who Must Not Be Named. So politics, elections, shootings... but wait. There's more. I have a wonderful friend in the US who has amazing health care, and yet when he got cancer, he was screwed. We do pay a health care premium up here, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to what people in the US pay for private insurance. Yes, you have the best hospitals in the world, but it doesn't matter if you can't afford to walk in the door. Now dump the intolerance -- racism, homophobia, religious zealots, misogyny (yes, I am talking women's rights, equal pay, access to health care, etc) -- throw in the crazies with guns, and now ask the question again. I absolutely know that Canada is not perfect, and that the tolerances and attitudes towards all these subjects differs from region to region, but overall we are a country that tries to respect the rights and needs of others, that has empathy for others, that wants to help others, and that is a pretty firm foundation to make us want to stay here. (please don't interpret this as all Americans and all areas of the US have no respect etc... but the predominant issues of health care, politics, religion, corporate greed, and violence, now all supported by a bat-crap crazy SCOTUS, sadly spills and taints it all. I know there are amazing, generous, kind people all over the US, but I don't know where the crazies are or where they might pop up).

I live 20 minutes from the US border, I'm single and doing the online dating thing. I Get lots of people who live in the states because I live so close to the border, but I immediately reject them. That's how much I don't want to even consider involving myself with the US.\n\nAlso, I think you need to do a little bit of research about your own company because your statement that the vast majority of people have health insurance through work is completely wrong. It's less than 50%. Most people in your country are screwed when it comes to healthcare.\n\nThe fact that basic human rights for the majority of the population are also under attack makes it a very easy no. Who would ever want to live in a place that is so hateful and violent?
