People acting like Canada doesnt have tariff on the US already.

What the vast majority of people imagined was that the day the United States went to war, it would be with its worst enemies, Russia, Iran, North Korea. Almost no one imagined that the United States would declare war on friendly countries and trading partners. Of course, it is a trade war, but it could escalate into something much worse. Nothing should be ruled out, we have already seen that anything can be expected from Trump and his entourage.

Let's see, make peace at reasonable cost with a man who's war with Ukraine showed the world that they cannot last in war with US on a military vs military bases; and the only option against the US is a nuclear, while Zelenskyy want's to use US as a deterrent against Putin, all while asking the US for billions. On the other hand, Canada, Mexico and Panama are being over ran by chinese businesses. People think this is against Canadians, Mexicans and Panamanians, but these tariffs are against chinese who are manufacturing in these countries and bypassing tariffs already in place by the US. The chinese are manufacturing in Canada and Mexico and placing (made in Canada/Mexico) and shipping those items to the US, while Canada and Mexico do nothing.

Tariffs on Canada would likely reduce real gross domestic product to zero in 2025 if implemented beyond a year and lead to a 2% contraction in 2026 with a peak unemployment rate of more than 8%. Trump told Canada if you did TWO THINGS, there would be no tariffs on Canada. One, stop illegal immigrants from pouring into the USA from Canada. Two, stop illegal drugs from coming into the USA from Canada. Did Trudeau comply with President Trump's request? If so, there must be a lack of communication to verify what has transpired. If not, then Trump imposed tariffs for lack of compliance. Now, if Canada has already complied yet the Trump admin imposed tariffs anyway, then that is a slap in the face to our neighbors to the north and the American people should be outraged and let Trump know it.

As a Canadian who lives in (largely French-speaking) Quebec, I don't know if our gov't even NEEDS to tariff American consumer goods, the people here are already boycotting US goods and companies en masse. EVERYBODY is doing it - and the pace isn't going to recede anytime soon. Even after the Orange Turd is long gone, trust me, Canadians will remember this! The American state has proven it cannot be trusted. They have unilaterally broken the trade agreement (negotiated by the previous Donald J Chump administration) on the flimsiest of reasons, the 00.2 % of fentanyl that flows over the border into the US from Canada. That deal now obviously not worth the paper it was signed on.

He was already president and we said 'no more'. He told us what he was going to do, we knew he was going to do it but many said 'oh he's not serious'. If you voted for Trump, you voted for this. If you are a democrat and didn't vote for Kamala, or vote at all, you voted for this. What I've heard from some of my friends is that they don't care if democracy is gone as long as their taxes go down. They want a lower income tax bracket. They're very single minded about issues. We'll see how we fair once you have to pay more at the pump, when the price of electronics go up, when produce and beef, pork, and chicken become unaffordable. Yes, the middle and upper middle class probably don't care, but the lower classes and the already poor are not going to be happy. Once people are hungry, then you'll see people on the street. Tarrifs are mad toi bring companies back to america making our country more self sufficient and not so reliant on everyone else which will strenghten us. TSMC has already made a deal to start manufacturing chips here which control everything we know and china could stop that at any moment. Honda is coming here as well. All in all almost one trillion has been committed to invest in the us and this is a huge win for the long run. This was an impressive speech and chilling to the bone. People should understand the undertone that this already is the first stage of a war. America is not talking friendly anymore to Europe or Canada, the alliance is questionable now at best, treaties don't matter anymore and the US government openly supports and defends totalitarian regimes like in Russia. I like how Mexico is not talking everyone saying these tariffs are not gonna work. Mexico already sent 10k more troops to the border so this stops some of the smuggling and immigration already. Its doing something just because people up north are mad doesn't mean its not going to work in the south..
