Prime Minister Trudeau when you start out your speech please stat half of America wants to have a trade war with us: because the other half of Americans does not want to have a trade war with Canada. I have been to Canada a hundred times in my lifetime since I live close to the Canadian border and I've always respected Canadian sovereignty also, that Canadian is our best partner and friend. Keep calling out TRAITOR TRUMP, the MAGA ACOLYTES and the so-called Republican party GOP that PLACE Putin over Canada. I don't know what Putin has over TRAITOR TRUMP or how much vested interest TRAITOR TRUMP is getting from Putin. The Canadian border is the largest undefended border in the world. To our mutual friends sorryl about this AUTOCRAT.

Canada will lose in this trade war.

How about looking at the amount of illegal firearms coming into Canada from the USA? Bet it's higher than the less than 1% fentanyl we're so quick to point to as the reason for this trade war.

Is it possible that this is all about access to critical minerals - which Canada and Ukraine hav in abundance. America has form in creating a pretence to go to war to protect access to cheap oil. But in the past these wars were against arab nations and so the West found it easy to 'other' and accept the need for war. Now America under Trump is hoping to secure critical minerals (modern day oil) - but because they are allies he cant start an outright war. So hes doing it through trade. This is old form for America. When looked through this lense is not so difficult to understand. The big question is will the west allow him to bully western allies - democracies to be bullied into submission?

Trump started a trade war with our best friends for no reason at all. Canada has always been a good trade partner. They've never wronged us in any way. Trump is disgusting.

Canada is not America's ally or friend. Ally/friend suggests equal partner. Canada is America's junior partner, a sidekick at the best. Canada blindly signed up for whatever war America was in, regardless of how ridiculous the war was, such as the 2003 invasion of Iraq. There is a simple solution to the trade war: join US as the 51st state and all tariffs will be gone. This is what Trump wants and he is serious.

Trudeau is a WEF puppet. A tariff war between Canada and the U.S. is ridiculous to begin with, and it will certainly have negative consequences for the U.S., but much more so for Canada. Let's face it, the U.S. internal market is several times that of Canada. Many businesses in Canada exist only because of their trade with the U.S. The same is not true for the U.S. Trudeau can paint whatever picture he wants to Canadians, but the Trump administration is not made of fools and they are very much aware of the reasons they have for having enforced the tariffs.

I served alongside Canadian military when I served in the US military. They were very tough, honorable, and outstanding professionals. I have friends and family from Canada, and they love America. This trade war is so sad and so devastating for so many Americans and Canadians. These tariffs are so stupid, it's beyond reason. Trump is treating America's best friends and allies like enemies! This is not only dishonorable behavior by a US president, it is despicable!

This is about more than the fentanyl. This is about Canada not pulling their own weight when it comes to defensive spending, this is about getting them to allow Us manufacturered cars into their markets, this is about convincing Canadian companies to build factories in the US… etc Trumps tariffs are creating hundreds of billions, soon to be trillions of dollars worth of investments into our market. We hold the largest market in the world. We hold the power here, not Canada. And bitching about relations with our allies isn’t going to sway conservative voters come the next election. When we win this “trade war” something tells me CNN will whine about how we won it instead of giving credit to the current administration for doing better by our citizens.

After a couple of years Trump and co will say, that Canada started a trade war against US. Just like they say, that Ukraine and Zelenskyy started the war with Russia. And now some uf US commentators are saying the same. It’s crazy. And there will be no way to get him to remember the facts. He and all who work for him are liars and half truth tellers. I’m not sure how to deal with this. But it is VERY important for all media outlets to keep reminding the facts. Just tell what happens, so there is a record. I was questioning PM Trudeau for his foreign relationships and dealing with Khalistan separatists and straining Canada's relationship with India. But this speech changed that perception. I like how he addresses the very issue. Crystal clear and a very matured leader I would now change my position about him. This trade war will really hurt both sides. It may help govt as businesses will pay more on sales taxes. But it will ultimately hurt the consumers, especially middle and low income folks on both sides of the border a big way. There are so many problems to solve in USA and he focused on this.

Canada has the fortitude to resist and also fight back on this injustice and unfair attack by your so-called 'friends'.\n\nYou have the support of your British cousins, and the rest of the EU - I honestly hope Canada is able to redirect their trade to the EU and actually get fair market prices for their valuable and exclusive resources.\n\nAs Trudeau says, NO ONE wins in a Trade War. Canada (and many other countries) spent decades supporting the maintenance of US hegemony. Look what it got us? To a position where we're pretty much greatly dependent on, and at the mercy of the US. We need to invest more in our own country and make our own products. We should also trade with other countries regardless of what the US thinks of those countries. Trump wants Canada to put tariffs on China in the attempt to further impede that country's economic growth so the US will remain the economic hegemony. Never mind that a trade war with China would put Canada in an even worse position. Given the current events, I say we trade with China even more!

I was born in Canada to Ukrainian Immigrants. I have dual citizenship. My loyalty is to both countries. I hate what President Trump has created here. We are now pawns in the game of Trade War. So sad.

Picking a trade war with Canada, Mexico, China and major economics is a very bad idea. It will not bring anybody to the negotiation table to get a better deal. It will drive them away from US partnership and they form alliances, new trade routes and partnerships, de-dollarization, etc. Just think why does a country needs USD when they cannot trade with US. BRICS have overtaken G7 in the overall GDP. So, In the end, US will be left alone with limited trading partners. US people will need to pay for tax + tariffs which will put them in a downward spiral.

Fentanyl seizures going “into” the US from Canada is now so low is almost non-existent. Meanwhile Canada just seized 8.5 tonnes of cocaine going “from” the US into Canada just this week. Canada suffers way more illegal drugs and guns coming across the US border than the US has across the Canadian border. This is all the dumbest trade war declaration in history.
