I agreed with everything Trudeau said, except when he said Trump is a very smart person. Stupid is what stupid does. Trump does stupid like no other. This is Canada's time to shine. We need our pipelines flowing to both the East and West coasts. It is time for Canadians to invest in Canada and cut our dependence on U.S. trade.\nAmericans need to start understanding, it is Americans who pay the tariffs. They are just a tax. It has nothing to do with the border, or drugs, or migration. This is a tax on the working class and the poor so the rich can continue to get 5 TRILLION dollars in tax cuts.

Trump is smart. it's blackmail, he scares you with 25% tarrifs. then he will say, we can deal now for 15% or 10 BUT you need to give me this and give me that like minerals etc... if we dont well then our Canadien compagnies will either shut down or they will have to move to the States and than will give new jobs in the States. lol there you go win win for the States. Nothing good for Canada or others. He also said if tariff dont work to kill Canadien economie to absorb Canada then he would take it by force.

Trump wants to make Canada the 51st state (to get the natural resources and despoil the country by drilling for oil). Does he really imagine that this is going to endear Canadians to America. Is he planning to deteriorate the relationship so that eventually he invades Canada? Because the tariffs make absolutely no sense for the reasons Trump has given.

Canadian here. Wake up Canadians. Many people are praising Trudeau for this speech. Don't. He is out as Liberal leader within the week. He doesn't have to follow through on anything he said. Plus, he just stated that he's smart enough to suggest that Trump just put a 25% tax on Canadian goods for Americans but he also thinks that you are dumb enough not to realize that he just put a 25% tax on Canadians for American goods. Trudeau basically created the situation for these tariffs (open border to let anyone come here). He loves this as he gets to take the apparent moral high ground for the first time in his life and wants this speech to be the way he is remembered rather than years of failing Canada. Forget about the last 9 years and vote Liberal if you are a fool.

What has Trump done to stop the demand. Smart businessmen know a market is supply and demand., we don't have one.

U.S. here....first, I and most Americans stand with Canada and Ukraine. Second, yes tRUMP made a dumb mistake. But everyone must realize that he really isn't very smart. His own cabinet members from his first term have said so. He doesn't understand things and he doesn't read. I feel pretty sure that his daddy paid for him to get into business school and paid for his degree, just as he paid a doctor to say he had bone spurs. He just isn't very bright. Here's my issue with Trudeau ...you now placed your country in a position where this becomes a game of tariff chicken. This won't end well for Canada no matter what tariffs you try to envoke to counter Trump. The U.S. aren't dependent on Canada. So, what is your real endgame here matching the tariffs? Is that what the people of Canada really want to get into? Doesn't seem smart to me. It just looks like a lazy game of posturing trying impose some front like the U.S. need to back down from Canada. Thank you Minister Trudeau for speaking clearly with facts all the great work that Canada is doing and has done it for the well-being of all.Most importantly how peacefully Canada's government has worked with the US as an ally and on a smart way.Unfortunately Trump is destroying that peaceful relationship with Canada applying those ridiculous and absurd tariffs just for money because Trump is so greedy.This is a shame that affects both Canadians and Americans.I feel bad for our children growing up in this tense situation.

How refreshing to listen to an intelligent leader! i only take issue with him calling Trump a smart guy. Trump will never do anything but ridicule and insult Trudeau and Canada no matter what concessions Canada makes. The great thing is that Trump never had any kind of plan except to tariff the hell out of our former allies. Canada is very systematic about their tariffs against US.
