Simple really, in Maslow's hierarchy of needs a person who doesn't have security in their basic needs of food, shelter, and safety can't get beyond that point up the ladder to self actualization considering other aspects of fulfillment, if you and your fellow countrymen are suffering and can't secure necessities for even basic survival like housing then seeing others come in is a threat to what little resources are available and therefore a threat to you regardless of where they are from, threats are reacted to with anger as a survival mechanism often subconsciously and is a normal human response, it's not hatred towards immigrants it's justified anger, frustration, and fear about you and your family being out on the streets and of course it's also universally unfair and unjust to those who were already part of the country and have paid into it, competition for resources in other words, I'm not Canadian but it works the same way no matter where you are

While I sympathize with their situation, I also strongly believe that those coming into the country should be thoroughly vetted. One important point you may have overlooked is the growing lack of confidence in the government's ability to perform effectively. This erosion of trust is leading to a decline in domestic investment, with many of our own citizens seeking opportunities abroad. Additionally, external investment is dropping significantly.

I'm a newcomer, and I agree with the points, and I see that people are blaming immigrants in general, but they don't think in the structural flaws that we have in the government system, I found a shame the public transportation in some of the biggest cities and in other public services, and I found that could be easier the validation of diplomos, we have doctors and engineers driving uber, because they can't work in their profession, and I feel that they are putting limits in the immigrants from one side, but they have no limits in refugees, I understand that they need help but should have a limit that the structure can hold.

Canada wants immigrants so they can pay them cheap for meanial jobs that nobody wants to do. Period. All your efforts spent getting a degree in something will be worth nothing here. Period. Even if you consider yourself super smart with an IQ above average and think you can defy the system, think better: yes you can go to school here and get your degree recognized, but is gonna take a lot of time and money, you'll probably have to work two jobs under shitty weather and pay the rent for an apartment not bigger than a shoebox, not to mention the college fees. Is it worth it? After 15 years spent here first as an immigrant and now as a citizen, I still have to understand what makes Canada so appealing to people. But then I came from Europe, where life is easy and relaxed, so I guess my point of view is biased.

Thank you for summarizing these key changes! Many problems are actually the Canadian immigration system not learning from the mistakes of the US system and now it’s suffering the same consequences. If Canada cuts down on those selected immigrations but still takes in refugees, it’s only going to make anti-immigrant sentiment worse. Selected immigrants are allowed into Canada to help alleviate Canadian issues…or at least people who come through Express Entry are less likely to become a burden. On the other hand, refugees, given their unfortunate circumstances, really need to rely on a lot of social services and resources to help them resettle. The US has eliminated pretty much all non-humanitarian immigration that’s why immigrants are so demonized there. Americans only feel the drags of refugees and asylum seekers (even though ethically we need to protect them) and there is no selected immigration to balance that out. Yet this round of Canadian policy change is heading exactly that direction.\n\nIt used to be international students in Canada are not paying a lot more tuition than Canadian students. But Canadian universities saw how much money universities in the US are making so they asked the federal government to change the policy to enable them to charge international students several times the regular tuition (whereas in countries like France, international students actually pay less than citizens). So now Canadian universities rely too much on international students to operate and it becomes an exploitative relationship even before students step foot on the campus. The new PGWP eligibility is awful because students can make contributions in every field. It might (and that's a big if) address the pressing problems, but it won't help Canada grow.\n\nI thought the new language requirement was interesting. Some Canadians who immigrated decades ago when the bar was really low still speak English poorly and now they are saying people can’t come to Canada because their language skills are not sufficient. Another point about language is if you apply through Express Entry now, even if you scored the highest language score, given how competitive the pool is, you still won’t get selected. So it’s a given that you need to be fluent in one of the languages at least to get an invitation. Express Entry also selects only the top people, I saw the head of The Institute for Canadian Citizenship in interviews talking about those top-tier people only expect the best treatment/lifestyle when they come to Canada. That's why many of them leave after seeing these Canadian problems play out. But I believe a good Canadian life is not about living in a high rise in Vancouver and Toronto, driving an expensive car, or buying luxury items...it's about the communities, nature and middle-class comfort. So the system is giving PRs to the wrong kind of people (just like mismatched people when hiring that don't align with company values).\n\nThis brings me to the last frustrating issue. There were so many people who attended “fake” universities and bought “fake” jobs to earn points to get an Express Entry invitation. And it's clear that the government wasn't proactively catching these abuses. They are taking up spots from those who try to earn the points fair and square. If I understand correctly, Canada doesn’t send these people away if they are found out (since some of them were scammed). So they still take up immigration quotas.\n\nI have wanted to move to Canada for a long time. I have visited Canada many times, hiking trails through the coastline and fjords, climbing mountains and glaciers. I lived in Montreal for two months to improve my French and I was told by my homestay family that I was the first student they had who didn’t complain about the cold (I wish the winter never ends so I can skate or xc ski in the parks year-round). I have probably seen more Canada than many Canadians and I love every bit of it. But the opportunity for me to even get a shot to move there is pretty much nonexistent now. Hello Anna and Anastasia your channel is truly a hidden gem full of useful information and insight. I am an international student myself and I agree with all your points in the video, Canada used immigration to fix a deeper problem and that is its difficulty to incentivize the economy by having a heavily regulated environment, high taxes and low productivity. It will definitely alleviate some of the pressure on the system but, the real cause is still there. The first sector that is going to be affected will be the education as colleges and universities became over reliant with the revenue coming from Int. Students (which is not particularly small) and institution will need to adapt. When I first came here I fell in love with the country and I really feel fortunate to enjoy this beautiful place and doing everything to assimilate and integrate myself into the culture. I think here you can have a sense of hope of things improving in the future (something that is not the case in my home country) but if they do not fix the underlying problem it does not matter how much immigration they reduce, Canadians will not see a significant improvement. I am an immigrant turned Canadian. I had to score points to come here, and I gave a job interview and cracked it on day 3 after arrival. Paying hefty taxes, integrating with culture, following the law of land just to see this country turning into a mess! Two massive, now irreversible problems. \n\nForeign (Chinese) real estate acquisitions/treating homes in Canada strictly as investments. Case in point, thousands upon thousands of empty condos in greater Vancouver. Which equates to a shortage of housing for people that have lived here and paid taxes their entire life, as a Canadian. Foreign real estate speculation and land purchasing has not only been allowed, AND encouraged, new properties/condos are being marketed in China well before they are IN Vancouver! Now, it's too late to plug the leak. Thus, rampant homelessness. \n\nCompletely irresponsible immigration policy. Nobody in their right mind would deny that a multicultural country like Canada needs immigrants. Especially with the aging population. But as far as accommodating/housing these people, we're not even close to being on target. You need to look back to before Bill Clinton when immigration was not a issue really because people came and went freely from Mexico...only after the GOP took control of Congress, then Clinton was basically forced to pass the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. The liberals have been granting student visas for years, literally unchecked in both numbers and who they were given to. The schools merely took in however many the liberals let in. Hundreds of thousands of them. Had trudeau set a reasonable cap to begin with, then the schools would only be accepting that capped number. The more trudeau let in, the more the schools took on. This wasnt the fault of the schools. This is an absolute direct result of the liberal government completely screwing up the immigration system. \n\nNot only did trudeau let in far too many students which blew up school enrolment, but it messed up the entire employment system, healthcare system and housing market. Not to mention that it drained the foodbanks and students were using them as their grocery store. Now we have hundreds of thousands of international students demanding trudeau support them, give them housing, jobs and citizenship. To say trudeau completely wrecked immigration doesnt even come close to what has resulted. To all those supporting the cracking down on these ‘illegals’ there’s something I need to know. Tell me, if they folks had an option to immigrate legally, would they? Now that she was able to become a citizen, rather than helping her family members to get their legal status, which can be difficult, tedious and very expensive, she could care less if the lives they have already spent decades on building here are completely destroyed. She seems to be fully aware that it can be a difficult process, and I personally have seen that it’s not exactly a fair one either. I have seen some people spend not only years waiting on a hearing or a determination, but spend thousands they scrape together on lawyers and obtaining records, while others submit minimal evidence and get a determination in weeks. Instead of admitting that there are problems with the system and vote for people who are actually trying to help, she wants the same system that made it a difficult process for her to stay the same for them. In fact she voted for someone who is going to make it harder if not impossible for them to come back the right way in the first place. Is she not thinking? If they get deported, that is going into immigration records and when that gets pulled up when they apply to come back it will likely cause any legally efforts to return to be rejected. And who knows how long that will stay in their system? Could be years, could be permanent. Biden’s idea to help those undocumented who are married to citizens to be able to apply and get a temporary visa to stay here while they wait so that families wouldn’t have to be broken up by having the applicant return to their country of origin. That was not just a great idea from a humanitarian point, but they could apply for a job that wasn’t going to take advantage of them by paying below minimum wage, with no rights if they are injured. That could help bring local wages up. They would start contributing back by paying their fair share of taxes, and do on. Republicans in red states stopped it though and are suing the Biden administration for trying to do what? Canada, you need to WAKE UP. Ive visited toronto and montreal for the nightlife scene and it was a blast before they started coming in mass. Cultural diversity is great but this is basically taking over a country without a single shot being fired. This silent invasion of mass indians needs to stop.
