We should be holding our relationship with Canada to the highest priorities
2025-03-04 0
Trump has officially ruined relationships with Americas longest ally. These tariffs will impact all innocent people.
2025-03-04 0
US credibility with allies is zero with DJT in the White House. US allies now see the US as NOT to be trusted in any working relationship or treaty. Trust takes enormous effort to gain, but can be lost in moments.

No- it's not American relationship. It's a Donald problem.

I think finally Canada realized that if they have friend like US then they don't need any enemy. You can't trust US at all and need to start open your market for global trade. I am glad that finally this happened cause sometimes you need a slap on face to wake up from a cozy bogus dream. Yes it will be painful few years for Canada but when time will come for fresh water and Arctic resources, it will be payback time to US. Forget US and start shipping products to Europe, China and India. Make pacts and create meaningful relationships and let US do whatever they feel like doing because ultimately Canada is the 2nd biggest landmass in the world, 3rd biggest supply of oil, 5th biggest supply of natural gas, 1st in the world for supply of potash and uranium, If you include Great lakes then it has 4 coasts that can tie them with water so great opportunity to create best ports, 1st in natural source of water and 5th biggest agricultral landmass. Then why bother and put your energy into someone who don't care. Let US do whatever they like and forget about them. Just don't go to US and don't deal with US.

The US was partly responsible for the collapse of the Soviet Union. Mr. Putin was a KGB officer during that era. Mr. Putin realizes the depth of Trump's ignorance and intends to take advantage of their relationship in order to bring the US further along the path to economic collapse. Payback for its role in the collapse of the Soviet Union as well as an opportunity to rid the world of a dimming superpower.

I had never thought for a second that this would ever happen between two friendly countries. These two countries are literally siblings. I hope for a peaceful relationship.

I'm an American who did not vote for the boar in the white house. I stand with Canada, Ukraine, Mexico, Greenland and Panama. Trump is behaving as if he made a deal with Putin to destroy the American economy and America's international relationships. We are making enemies of all our allies.

I was questioning PM Trudeau for his foreign relationships and dealing with Khalistan separatists and straining Canada's relationship with India. But this speech changed that perception. I like how he addresses the very issue. Crystal clear and a very matured leader I would now change my position about him. This trade war will really hurt both sides. It may help govt as businesses will pay more on sales taxes. But it will ultimately hurt the consumers, especially middle and low income folks on both sides of the border a big way. There are so many problems to solve in USA and he focused on this.

Trump being played by Putin and severing our excellent relationship with Canada our good neighbor and harming us in the process wake up America this d not good.
2025-03-04 0
From Vancouver here, last couple week was wild. Me and my friends and family stand with Canada and support local economy ?? this is gonna leave a scar for Canadian and US relationship for a very long time
2025-03-04 0
Bro why America voted for trump. He is indeed destroying the relationship to the world…
2025-03-04 0
Many of us did NOT vote for this administration - It's not Americans - it's this administration! We re SO sorry Prime Minister - We Americans love Canada! We will get through this - somehow!!!! Hopefully resume our relationship with you/Canada!
2025-03-04 0
Thank you sir. Lots of family in Canada so this is horrible to me. Inexcusably cruel to all involved the way the US govt is crushing our country and friendly with relationships with other nations
2025-03-04 0
THE RELATIONSHIP IS BAD NOW THANKS TO CANADA PRIME MINISTER BRUTOU‼️ \nU.S. HAVE A 41 BILLION DEFICIT WITH CANADA ?? GO TRUMP TARIF.\nALERT ? ALL OTHER NEGATIVE COMMENTS AGAINST TRUMP ARE BEEN PAID.\nNOW DEMOCRATS ALL OF THE SUDEN KNOW MORE ABOUT THE ECONOMY? WHY BIDEN DIDN’T FIX IT?
2025-03-04 0
Our president is destroying our country and our relationships with our closest allies that have shed blood on our behalf. It’s an embarrassment. Fentanyl has nothing to do with it. Putin is the one that benefits from this chaos.
2025-03-04 0
I remember worse relationships between the US and Canada. Did the Canadians conquer Washington at that time?
2025-03-04 0
I am Canadian, and I want to speak to the USA, as a concerned citizen who valued the relationship that we once had between our two countries: please realize that we do NOT want to declare this as any form of “attack”, that these are solely defensive measures against your current administration’s lack of respect towards us as a people and as a country. \n\nPlease rest assured that we KNOW that not all of you voted for Trump, that there are those of you who realize what your current president is truly doing and do not support it. This is NOT about fentanyl. This NOT about money and how much each country was giving whom. We had a respectable trade deal that we were following, previously signed by Trump. We have always had a positive relationship together, business-wise and friendship-wise. Please also realize that, once your administration is no longer in control of our narratives in such a destructive manner, or it gets replaced by one that reverses this destructive policy, we will definitely reconsider our former relationship and we will work towards rebuilding it. \n\nIt is unfortunate for both sides here. We are aware of that. But “Canada Strong” is our way to remain forever a sovereign and free nation. Nothing more, nothing less. Always remember that.

As an American, I am so angry and disgusted with how our government here has put millions of American’s livelihood at mind blowing risk and their disrespect to many countries where we have built relationships with for decades and affect the livelihoods of the people of those countries; all to manipulate the markets for billionaires and corrupt criminals. That is what we get when we elect criminals against all warnings given over the last decade.
2025-03-04 0
You can’t change your neighbors.. make peace with them even if it costs a few billions on paper. Ask other countries who have not very good relationships with neighboring countries. It’s not good for region.
2025-03-04 0
Trump and the GOP has taken the relationships with friends, allies and other democracies, put it in the snow shaker, shake it up and see where things land. The consequences is left to future generations to repair. meanwhile the authoritarian are smoking cigars and in laughter
2025-03-04 0
As a Canadian I can tell you all that we’re livid. The relationship between our two nations will never be the same.\n\n27% of Canadians now view America as an enemy and threat to our security, not an ally.
2025-03-04 0
We deeply respect and value our neighbors to the North and South. While we understand these tariffs will impact all consumers, as Americans, we acknowledge that Canada and Mexico's responses are a direct result of policy decisions beyond their control. My hope is that in a not so far off future, we can repair our everlasting relationships and continue to thrive united as partners.
2025-03-04 0
We don’t want this either!!! I’m devastated as an American. Inflation will go up at least one percent aside from goods and services and the auto industry might be irreparably damaged by this along with our relationships to our allies ?
2025-03-04 0
As an American right now i feel more strongly patriotic for my Canadian brothers than my own government. We should be the best of friends and allies this is such a stupid fucking step for trump to take. He's destroying our alliances. I only hope our relationship isn't irreparably damaged before his four years are up. As a western new yorker who has lived by the falls all my life, im really saddened to see this. Sorry.
2025-03-04 0
As a Trump supporter, I am\nAgainst the 25% tariff on Canada because just what you’re hearing. Canada is a close and loyal ally to the U.S. we shouldn’t punish them and tarnish our relationship. We should grow and prosper together. yes I did support Trump but I didn’t support this.
2025-03-04 0
As a anti Trudope I'm actually impressed by his speech today, but make no mistake he's trying to stir up the relationship between Trump and the American ppl all to make his party look good to us.
2025-03-04 0
Not even in my dreams i thought i would see this day.. other countries were envious of their relationship
2025-03-04 0
CNN! You better start waking up and stop gaslighting Americans by supporting Trump and Putin. We are destroying our friendship with our borders and international relationships on purpose. Start fucking pushing back!
2025-03-04 0
Agent Orange is lying nonstop, destroying the US economy, & US ally relationships. God help us all. ????????(US voter in WA state, US)
2025-03-04 0
@CNN: Wait, so this is a 1/2 ounce trade war officially??? Half an ounce of phentanyl?.. messing up a trillion dollar a year trade border and the closest relationship the US had literally in history?? Wth Donald?\nTrudeau is doing an amazing job. ???He was not perfect at all, but he's doing a solid job voicing and standing up for Canadians now. I love his efforts.
2025-03-04 0
You cant argue with a well thought out, sensible, and honest message. Bravo Canada! I speak for the vast Majority of Americans when I say that we value your friendship and look forward to a healthy and prosperous relationship moving forward.

Trump is a Russian, working on Putin's behest destroying relationships with allies

Canada’s Retaliation Against the Smoot-Hawley Tariff (1930)\nOne of the most immediate and severe retaliatory responses to the Smoot-Hawley Tariff came from Canada, which was heavily dependent on trade with the United States. Canada was the largest export market for U.S. goods at the time, and when the U.S. imposed high tariffs on Canadian imports, Canada responded with its own punitive tariffs on American products.\n\nBackground: U.S.-Canada Trade Before Smoot-Hawley\nIn 1929, about 75% of Canadian exports went to the U.S.\nCanada was also a major supplier of lumber, wheat, cattle, and minerals to American markets.\nThe two economies were deeply intertwined, and Canada had traditionally followed a low-tariff trade policy with the U.S.\nCanada’s Response: Retaliatory Tariffs (1930)\nPrime Minister R.B. Bennett responded to Smoot-Hawley by raising tariffs on American goods, specifically targeting products from the U.S. Midwest and industrial centers.\nCanada increased tariffs on over 16 U.S. goods, including:\nFarm machinery\nAutomobiles\nFruits and vegetables\nTextiles\nThese tariffs redirected Canadian trade away from the U.S. and toward Britain and other Commonwealth nations, under a new imperial preference system.\nEconomic Consequences\nFor the United States:\n❌ Sharp decline in U.S. exports to Canada\n\nU.S. exports to Canada dropped by 55% between 1929 and 1932.\nAmerican automobile and farm equipment industries suffered severe losses.\nMany Midwest farmers, who had relied on Canadian sales, went bankrupt.\n❌ Loss of a major trading partner\n\nCanada sought alternative suppliers in Britain, Australia, and other Commonwealth nations.\nThis permanently weakened U.S.-Canada economic ties, forcing the U.S. to reconsider its trade policies.\nFor Canada:\n✅ Diversification of Trade\n\nCanada strengthened trade ties with Britain and other Commonwealth countries.\nCanadian exports to Britain increased, helping Canada avoid complete economic collapse.\n❌ Short-term economic pain\n\nWhile Canada successfully retaliated, the tariffs raised prices for Canadian consumers.\nThe Canadian economy still suffered from the global depression, but it recovered faster than the U.S. by diversifying trade.\nLong-Term Impact\nPermanent Shift in Canadian Trade Policy\n\nCanada moved away from dependence on the U.S. and pursued closer economic ties with Britain.\nThis weakened U.S. economic influence in Canada for decades.\nRepeal of Smoot-Hawley and the Start of U.S. Trade Liberalization\n\nThe failure of Smoot-Hawley contributed to the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act (1934) under Franklin D. Roosevelt, which lowered tariffs and encouraged bilateral trade deals.\nU.S.-Canada trade eventually recovered, but the economic damage lasted for years.\nConclusion\nThe U.S. intended to protect its industries, but Smoot-Hawley backfired by provoking Canada’s retaliation. This case study highlights how tariffs can damage relationships with key trading partners, disrupt industries, and reduce exports, ultimately harming the economy.

Trudeau has no credibility. He's a lame duck... And actually never had any credibility especially because he made his relationship with Trump a mess (knowing he had chances to become 47th). Make a poll, and I'm pretty sure support for Ukraine is nowhere near this excuse for a prime says.
2025-03-04 0
Please, explain it to me, what this trade war has to do with the USA — Russia relationship? Please let me know why the President of Russia is a lying, murderous dictator? Facts on the table!!! Or is it all a usual BS?
2025-03-04 0
The United States relationship with the rest of the free world is at its lowest point in its history - fear not, we're closer than ever to Putin and Russia. No doubt he'll soon be visiting North Korea, Hungary and Belarus.
2025-03-04 0
Tell it like it like it is. Facts over FICTION ?. The U.S. is on a downward spiral with tarrifs, taxes for goods and services. The unemployment and state of economy is causing the U.S.to lose valuable relationships with Allies.

?? Trudeau didn't even bring up the part where Donny keeps threatening to annex Canada.\nAs a Canadian....ya...we are pissed at the irresponsible and bullying tactics of Putin's lap dog.\nWhen America gets it's ethics back and respect for rule of law and turns its back on authoritarianism...\nMaybe then we can resume our profitable relationship...but not before.
2025-03-04 0
Trump doesn't value relationship, all he is after is to make money for himself
2025-03-04 0
Trump is not fit for the office of President. Its not only that he's a buffoon, its that he's willing to destroy his own country. He's repeatedly proven that he does not care about his own people and is happy to see them suffer if it will increase his wealth.\nThe USA went through decades of the Red-Scare only to have Trump cosy up to the worst Russian Communist Leader since Stalin. I'm glad the rest of the world is reassessing their relationships with the USA and people are voluntarily boycotting the USA.
2025-03-04 0
As a Mexican-American it really makes me sad seeing our relationship with our long friend Canada crumble.
2025-03-04 0
Instead of standing down, the Canada PM decided to impose 25% tariffs on its own people just to combat a war with the USA instead of mending their relationship and fight the fentanyl crisis together.
2025-03-04 0
Dear Canadians,\nI'm so sorry for how the leadership of my country is treating you, one of our closest allies. I've spent a fair bit of time in Canada and I've always had a great fondness for you.\n\nI hope that this storm passes soon, and I'll be doing my part to help it pass, and I hope that in the future we can begin to repair the damage done to our relationship. \n\nWe're better together. All of us. \n\nWith love, \nA caring American

Trump has destroyed the American relationship with every country that is democratic. He is now with Russia 100% The Americans had better wake up. Trump is destroying the USA. They have already basically written themselves out of what happens in Europe.
2025-03-04 0
I stand with you, Canada and Prime Minister Trudeau. I love that you have a reasonable, decent, humane adult leader, Canada, and not an insane, bloated, screaming orange toddler. I'm so sorry America has allowed this to happen, and I'm grieving for our formerly friendly relationship. Not all of us wanted this. Please forgive those of us who stand with you and our allies and not with Tr*mp, Vance, and Putin. I love you, Canada! ?? ? ?? ❤
2025-03-04 0
It's truly unfortunate that this is all caused by 1 person, who no longer has a system of checks and balances on him. I feel our relationship with the U.S has come to an end. We need to have closer ties with our friends in Europe, and secure more trade deals with the EU and Great Britain.
2025-03-04 0
? I wanna move to Canada! Seriously, it is so sad that citizens of the USA have to suffer at the hands of our Government/Trump. I have relatives in Canada and I live in a city directly across the river from Canada, I pray this does not affect the great relationship the common American citizen has with its Canadian neighbor! Love and Blessings to both countries and may God have mercy on us all. ????????????????????????
2025-03-04 0
Screw Canada your going to punish the people because of the relationship that's sour between trump.Go to hell pos country.
2025-03-04 0
I've not always agreed with the Canadian prime minister, but here he is 100% correct. Our family used to it's clear to the entire world. Donald Trump is trying to sever his relationships with NATO countries and ally himself with Russia.
