Imagine a war torn family with 2 kids and the mother and father reach one of their borders, All they want is safety food and shelter. Nobody cares about the motherland when your family is in danger, will they give them asylum or refuge in that case? Or will they keep saying the root problem needs to be fixed to them and send them back to get killed with their children, this is a horrible answer. Palestinian people are humans too and giving them refuge does not mean giving them your land.

A lot of these are rich country problems. Which is why we get such a huge number of immigrants from developing countries. Ans almost none from developing ones. Only about 10,000 a year from the USA compared to over 300,000 a year from developing ones. But while I returned to Canada before I retired to care for my elderly mother, I had been approved for a green card in the USA. I lived in LA for 10 years. But my very low out of pocket cost of medical care still makes Canada attractive to me. \n\nBut my kid who was 13 when I moved to the USA, stayed there when I returned to Canada. They have had a green card for 11 years and is soon to become a US citizen. They and their spouse would like to move to Canada but simply cannot make anything like a similar net income in Canada. \n\nBut the housing crisis here is very real for many people.

What has happened in Canada is actually quite simple. Companies sell products and services. Companies require employees in order to sell those products and services. The difference between what the companies can those products and services for and what they pay the employees is profit. The owners of the companies want to maximize this profit, therefore want to pay employees as little as possible. Scarcity is labour is one of the driving factors behind what employees are paid. One way to decrease scarcity of labour is to bring in massive amounts of immigrants. That is exactly what Canada has been doing for decades. The owners of the companies take profits and invest it in real estate. This makes real estate unaffordable for the employees whose wages have been suppressed. Lower wages also means less money from taxes available for services like health care. We allowed our politicians to be bribed into allowing massive levels of immigration. Stagnant wage growth resulted in lowered consumptive capacity in the economy. This lead to stagnant economic activity and lowered investment into things that would make the Canadian economy more productive. What we have now is unaffordable housing. Lack of jobs. A failing health care system. An educational system where the bar was lowered to accommodate the lowest common denominator. Increased crime and substance abuse resulting from the subsequent hopelessness. Several families living in a single house. People working several low paying jobs just to try to get by. People with full-time jobs that are forced to choose between being homeless or starving to death. The immigrants that are still coming here are sleeping on the sidewalk in front of homeless shelters, or maybe scraping by delivering UberEats.

At.least 65,000 people seek medical care in the US.

The strained health care system is the scariest thing for Canadians. Not only is the population aging, but the immigration has increased to the point where we won't be able to help the new immigrants with proper health care let alone the people who lived here all their lives. I see too often, immigrants being blamed for this but it's not their fault. It's poor government management.

This follows the current Conservative narrative. Yes Canadian housing is going through a rough patch, worse than most G7. But the people under the most stress are in the the three western provinces where the economy is more resource based and to some extent the maritimes where the rate of mortgage arrears are above average. Ontario and BC rate of mortgage arrears is the lowest and make up are the largest housing market. Canada has many large international corporations like Nutrien, Barrick Gold, banks, Enbridge, Constellation Software, Shopify, Suncor ... Healthcare is tricky to compare but where Canada mostly falls short as reported by the NIH is dental care and drugs which the NDP want to address. Although primary care could be improved, falling a little below Europe.

Canada has a few problems like these: Many many people want to come live in Canada, last year more than a million people came to our country. The total population of the country is now greater than 40 million people. This is putting enormous pressure on the housing market, this is why in part the cost of housing is very high. Also, ridiculous monetary policy from many central banks to bring the interest rate to zero has helped create a real estate bubble. Rates are now higher and this is cooling the market. Immigration is also putting pressure on the health care system and education system. \n\nNow if there has been a lot of inflation it is partly because the country is rich and many people have lots of money. Yes there are people suffering from the situation but believe, the shopping centres are full of people, the restaurants are full, etc. Life is still very good for those people that have been smart with their money.

As a US investor in Canadian companies from Florida, I like see whats happening up there. \nThe comments seem to reflect my own fb in the US....people complaining about high prices of housing and food. This seems to be an OECD post pandemic phenomenon. \nI will say, if you can invest in your monopolies and oligopolies, you will do well. My friend sold everything and migrate to Canada. But now he's bankrupt and jobless. Thought in Canada can have a better life. But he is wrong. I lived in Toronto, Hamilton, and St.John's in the 90s. Canada was a strong country back then, and government was fair and hardworking. We all could see Canada growing into one well developed country some day. And then in the 2010s I went back to visit twice, many once crowded places in downtown Toronto and vancouver were deserted. Shops closed. Beggars everywhere even in cold winter days. People are still very polite, but I could see the hopelessness in their eyes. Like everyone is too busy to care for others because they have trouble looking after themselves too. \n\nI cry for you Canada.

Here is the reality of Canada, experienced by both native Canadians and new Indian immigrants: No matter what your education, there is an extreme shortage of jobs for highly skilled workers. The result is that Canadian and Indian graduates work in minimum-wage jobs for all of their life. Rents are rising at 15% to 25% per year, but wages are barely rising at all. It has now reached the point where people are starting to live in their cars since they can't afford to pay the rent. Even 4 people living together and splitting the cost is not enough to afford the rents that are now being charged. Health Care? What health care, there is none in Canada; if you get sick you just might die waiting 24+ hours to see a doctor at the hospital.

Well I will tell you that I am an immigrant with Canadian citizenship, I have been living in Canada for almost 12 years, and I have decided to leave Canada to live permanently in my home country Peru. The reasons why I will leave Canada are mainly the extremely high cost of life (the rent mainly) I have lived in Toronto for almost 7 years and until now I am renting rooms because it's the only space I can afford with my current salary. The other reason is the health care service, as the lady in the video mentioned, I have been in the waiting list for 2 years to see an specialist and until now nothing. I got used to the weather, the people, the snow, I have my own car but it's sucking me almost CAD$1000 per month among monthly payments, gasoline and insurance. While in Lima Peru the cost of life is almost a third part of what it's here. The food is cheap and the quality is high (everything is organic in Peru). I will keep my Canadian job and work remotely from Lima and I will live like a king¡¡¡¡¡, I miss the food, the beaches, the amazing social life and with my Canadian passport I will be able to travel anywhere in the world once a year ..... now that's what I call living the life .... I am so excited¡¡¡

For housing, something that needs to be and should be discussed is the land base. \nI know some real estate players in BC that laugh when people talk about housing and affordability, they say look at the landbase and who controls it. In BC its a crazy amount to 94% and only 5% available for ownership of the people. No option to apply and buy anymore and only lease. That is why even rural lands in BC 40 to 60 minutes outside of a teir two or three city is still thousands per acre! To the coast to coast to coast average its 88%+ controlled by governments and not the people. Do the math there and you will start to see the connection. \n\nAlso, for health-care, its not free just paid for through taxes by the governments on the people. It is broken in so many ways and most likley too big to fix kr repair now without a full ripdown and build up. \n\nMany orher things but just my initial points.

We were already in a housing crisis before Trudeau brought over those 80,000 refugees/immigrants, then we had all those who jumped our border from the US because Trudeau invited them to come to Canada. All that on top of our usual amount of immigrants that come in every year.\nIn the end we should have a MAXIMUM cap on the total # of refugees/immigrants that can enter the country per year no matter how/why they want to enter, and we should require all of them to have skills/trades/etc that we actually need. Why should we be bringing in people who can't/won't work? I know that the UK brought in refugees over 50 years ago that the majority of are STILL on welfare and the majority of their kids are on welfare too.\n\nI think Trudeau has spent more on refugees/immigrants then he has spent on our own homeless people, veterans and mental health care combined.

Immigration is not the problem, foreign intervention is,and we just stood around as our government announced that they are aware of Chinese spies within our government…Canada had a declining birthrate, we can’t keep up with our NATO budget and are about to get kicked out, we have a lack of infrastructure, “let them eat cake” but instead of cake it’s taxes to “save the planet in 100 years” Canadians are gonna save the world okay…. Not only housing, but our Healthcare. It's so expensive to live here now, why would you want to come here? Nobody's fault but our government. They don't care about people they only care about their pockets! I've thought about leaving Canada and I was born here. Pretty sad.

There are essentially two major problems when discussing this issue. First and foremost, it is VERY difficult for anyone to even attempt to bring up an intelligent argument because they are instantly branded a racist, so many people just keep quiet, which is not healthy in a democracy. Secondly, when examining the world as it is today, the inescapable fact is that the nations with a high standard of living and a truly democratic system simply cannot sustain the rest of the globe!! It's simply a numbers game, if we gradually permit the rest of the world to bring it's problems here, the outcome is predictable. I'm sorry but I feel that it's a terrible thing when I go out and almost ALWAYS notice that I am a minority. I don't care what your politics are, that is just wrong. And the aspect of that is most unfair? The countries where these people came from would NEVER allow that to happen. In fact, most often we are not welcome in those countries at all!

How about a stupid ass Federal government ( many of them ) failed to keep up with home building, affordable homes and places for people to live. And don't get me started on not preparing our social and health care systems for an aging population. The stupidity is mind boggling. ?

They pay triple tuition. Naw really? We never asked for the liberals WEF agenda. It was never presented in their campaign when running during elections, they simply imposed it upon Canadians and then implied if you disagree you must be some kind of ist or ism. \n\nAnd it's not like we can look at every country who has recently taken in hoards of migrants and see a clear and defined uptick of negative consequences, not to mention the spikes in crime. \n\nNobody is an ist for prioritizing their culture in their country, and for wanting their people to be taken care of first. Immigration is great. Legal immigration. But even then you have to have the resources and if you don’t you will cause undo stress on all of society. Keep voting for Trudeau and Sing. They will for sure keep immigration up high. Those tent cities should all be moved to liberal and NDP properties. Their personal property so they can take care of the people this winter. They should be forced to take in immigrants at the homes to give them shelter food and conveniences at their expense instead of ours.

In 2004 I wrote a somewhat famous article called 'Top 8 reasons not to immigrate to Canada'. In short, the Canadian authorities tried to destroy my life. They made it so that I could not be employable in Canada. So I moved to the U.S. in 2005 and then some years later I moved permanently to the Philippines. I am happy that so many years later videos like yours are saying essentially the same things that I did. I was ahead of my time. I will never go back to Canada. Not to live, not to visit, not even a connecting flight. Too cold, too expensive, taxes are astronomical, no freedom, no jobs, no opportunities, xenophobic people, too depressing. It has become the North Korea of the western world.\n\nTheir are many reasons why Canada has fallen apart. But the number one reason is ‘multiculturalism’. My friends, multiculturalism simply does not work. Different cultures do not come together and mix, different cultures come together and clash. Born in South Vietnam and raised in Toronto for almost 44 years now I'm still here and Toronto sucks!!! It has become a ghetto! City Toronto leftists' politicians have made it into a shithole! Bike lanes are everywhere and there are not much bikers during the Winter months (something like 8 to 9 months) and summer months I saw few here and there. Rents are totally beyond many peoples affordability. Foods prices are freaking crazy. Reason why this is happening? You have to thank the current idiotic-leftard government under Trutard leadership in Canada. This is thanks to his carbon taxes BS initiative causing high cost in fuel and resulting in major inflations in high food prices, rentals, etc. How can you help refugees and immigrants while Canadians can't even afford to live in Toronto, etc. You need to take care of Canadian first and foremost. Taking in 500 thousands new immigrants and refugees each year isn't going to be help Canada to get this mess we are in. Lower number like 150-200 thousands of new immigrants | refugees is feasible but NOT 500 thousands new immigrants and refugees.

Good solid takes on life in Canada as it stands in the larger cities. My family immigrated in the late 80s when I was a young child to YYZ and the housing prices and quality of living was really solid back then. We moved to YVR in the late 90s and prices seemed to be pretty stable as well. Think things started to change shortly after my undergrad years in the mid 2000s. Unfortunately, the government wanted to increase immigration which is great, but forgot to build out the transportation infrastructure and develop the health care system properly. Foreign credential recognition is really the biggest bottleneck for newcomers. Newcomer employment expectations and what is available to them is not really matching up, I know this first hand as I've worked in the employment enabling sector. Weather as you mentioned is subjective, I prefer the cold, clean crisp air here in Canada, I don't do well in the hot humid polluted weather in most East and Southeast Asian countries. Crime has definitely been on the rise as many people around me have had personal experiences with this topic. Finally housing, to live comfortably in YVR a family income of 150K is probably bare minimum these days.

Winter is the best! \n2) All your criticisms (job-searching, health care, housing costs) apply to average Canadians too -- it has got much worse here in the past fifteen years, especially the past five years.\n3) I am sorry to hear your view on freedom-loving Canada. I think there is a culture war playing out and the core issues have not been solved yet. I think average Canadians love their freedom!\n4) Now that you say it, yes it is hard to make friends here. We are introverted and reserved people with those we don't know. But behind closed doors, I think we are quite loud and rowdy. We simply do not want to hurt anyone's feelings :)

The problem is the US, we need to fix our problems at home with immigration first!!!! \nWe have immigrants on the waiting list, doing the right thing by following the law!!! There are just too many immigrants being let in. I’m shocked at the amount of international students at my college. I feel like its almost 90% are international students trying to get PR and some of them can barely write properly. The quality of work being put out by the students makes me question the integrity of schools. So many of them don’t care about what they’re studying and put minimal effort. All they want is PR. They are not willing to adopt Canadian values and I see people pushing and shoving to get on public transport instead of being civilized. I think immigrants from 30 years ago were a different group. Most were refugees and wanted a better life and were willing to adapt to Canadian culture and adopt new values. But nowadays, the mass of immigrants coming in are very different. Many of them are wealthy and are here not to make a better life for themselves and contribute to Canada. They are here to get PR in order to get Canadian benefits as its much better than their own countries. Some want to be able to move to the US later on. They’re taking advantage of the system and it’s f*cking the country.

As a Canadian who has lived in almost all the provinces and territories, all my life, I can tell you that a lot has changed as I think the best time or era was in the 1970's and you may have come at the worst time as the worst appears to be now when everything has become too expensive. The other problem relates to Canada, its size, the distances to travel, the smaller tax base with a smaller population than that of United States or India. This is not intended to provide excuses but most people here do not even have a family doctor as many doctors find greener pastures in the United States where the dollar is 30 percent higher in value and salaries are not limited to government health care. It is hard to change when American influence dictates much of what transpires. Homelessness hasn't been a problem but the last five years has provided more hardship for many who find it hard to cope with how things have become.

So these countries that we accepted their immigrants- will they be welcoming us born and raised Canadians to immigrate there if we want to? Not sure why I’m supposed to care that people are leaving? I care more about those canadians born here that can’t afford it now. Who will care about those people?

All you religious types who protect these lowlives who do nothing but make the streets dangerous and turn them into putrid drug dens make them in to places filled with human waste and syringes are committing crime to support the very expensive drug habit attrack people because they are off their head on whatever garbage they chose to put in themselves. Like you, I know someone happy with their job, location, medical care and opportunities, but they are also very uncomfortable with the political situation - I'll just say it - Republicans. You need only look at Trump and its followers. Guns over lives (including kids), billionaires over poor, religion over others' freedoms (gay/trans/abortion, etc), mass spread of misinformation (Fox news, OAN, etc) and a personal selfishness and anger which was made very clear during COVID times. It makes them feel like they are walking on eggshells, at least compared to Canada where they lived before and people would look out for each other more (even if they didn't know them). They like the weather, job, opportunities, the USD buying power, and their friends, among many other things, but it just feels excessively risky to them dealing with the combinations of these things. I can completely understand why they and others might want to leave the US.

I fled a mentally abusive relationship that I was in for 12 yrs and this loser I was with could care less if I have any place to live, food to eat, other basic necessities. He is a narcissistic man and blamed me for all the problems he caused. I have to use the food bank every month because I work minimum wage and can’t afford groceries. I live in the Edmonton ab area and apparently the alberta income support will only help you if you make less than $1600 a month or if you are going to be evicted from a place your renting. Our prime minister Justin Trudeau doesn’t care about the people. He has never know. Hardship and doesn’t care to understand or care for those who do

1) Toronto is poor value. Getting housing of any kind (buying or renting) is stupidly expensive. And the quality you get for the price is lousy. Especially the newer builds, which are just thrown up as quickly as possible and sold to investors. Policy measures generally all seem to serve to just inflate the price of housing further. The occasional lip service given to affordability is amusing, but ultimately sad. There are lots of people who really do not want the housing bubble to pop. They will fight against it with all they have.\n\n2) It has become kind of boring. There is lots to do if you have money, but it’s harder to find entertainment on a budget. Even the free stuff like parks are filling up. Stuff like sporting events, eating out, going out is very costly across the board. Even the “cheaper” stuff is expensive. It seems like a lot of local culture is disappearing. Even the cool neighbourhoods are filling up with the same chains. I think the high commercial rent and bureaucracy is deflating a lot of would-be entrepreneurs. Most landowners seem to just be banking on cashing out their land for condos.\n\n3) Canada overall has a high cost of living compared to salaries. In the US you can find lower cost of living areas that still give you a real city experience. And in Europe you can be poor but still live a decent, if no frills, life. In Canada the basic necessities are all expensive. Phone bills, grocery bills, rent, insurance are through the roof. Domestic travel is expensive. And the dollar sucks if you want to travel abroad. Health care is free but good luck finding a family doctor or waiting 8 hours in the ER these days. It’s expensive to be poor, or even middle class.\n\n4) Most of the Greater Toronto Area, outside the core, is soulless suburbs with awful transit - very “American” except with worse traffic congestion. You will need a car, which is another huge cost. Row upon row of old cookie cutter suburbs with the same crappy houses. Good luck walking anywhere, and if you do you will need to walk down boring, treeless arterial roads with cars zooming past right beside you, and cross giant eight lane intersections that were never built for humans on foot. In a rainstorm or on a fall evening you have to be really careful not to be run over by aggressive drivers.\n\n5) It is hard to raise a family in an apartment here. You can do it but it’s not very easy, and also you are still kind of judged for it. Lots of young people are feeling stuck and are deferring or avoiding starting a family. Buying any type of house, even a basic townhouse, requires pledging your soul to a bank by taking a massive mortgage with eye watering debt in a volatile market. But few apartment buildings have the kind of sensible gentle density, the family unit sizes and the common amenities, like little courtyards with jungle gyms, that you might find in Europe. No one ever contemplated that anyone would ever desire to raise kids in an apartment. It’s just a cultural thing that has worked its way into how things are planned and designed.\n\n6) The transit system is ok by North American standards but awful by international standards. There are only two real subway lines, one stub line, one line that is permanently out of service after a derailment, and another line that was supposed to open a couple years ago but still has no date for opening. The subways go out of service frequently, sometimes for the dumbest reasons, and then it is a zoo of shuttle buses. The streetcars are nice but so slow. The buses are fine if you find yourself dreaming about riding a daily herky jerky rolling tin of sardines. They are building a lot of transit but it will take decades to get done.\n\n7) There is still a lot of cool multiculturalism and opportunities to experience different foods and cultures - one of the best things about Toronto. Increasingly though it seems to be losing the fun vibe of the 90s, when everyone celebrated each other’s backgrounds and was chill. It seems the immigration is not as broad based anymore and also people are importing a lot of their “old country” grievances here. The immigration system also kind of preys on people abroad by selling them a false fairy tale, so they end up dejected when they arrive and see how things really are.\n\n8) This one might be controversial but it’s kind of an ugly city. There’s nothing particularly of historical meaning or value. Some of the older neighbourhoods are kind of nice, but the last 25 years they have only built giant glass skyboxes, one after another. There aren’t the cool “missing middle” walkups like in NY, Chicago or Montreal (or even LA). There are very few buildings with much architectural character. Some of the buildings they deem “heritage” here are an embarrassment.\n\n9) For safety, honestly on this score I think Toronto is not bad. There are not too many real “ghettos” and it’s night and day compared to much of the US. With that said, there is more vagrancy and social issues these days, with tents and such. It’s very sad but the shelters are full, lots of homeless go into the libraries, parks and transit system. It does make it harder to enjoy these public amenities safely. It is nowhere close to Europe where you might let your kids run free around town. Canadian parents still helicopter their kids and the place again is not designed to really be safe for kids, in the same way as Europe.\n\n10) Finally, a bit of a double edged sword. Toronto had a lot of youthful energy - people coming here from all over. It is definitely not as sleepy as many parts of the world. With that said, it is becoming a bit of a transient place (minus the world class experiences like London or NY). If you are from elsewhere you might find it hard making and keeping friends. I’ve seen lots of people struggle because it’s is hard to build a strong social network. We have a very “shallow” culture here - people are extremely polite but not overly warm and hospitable. We treat one another kind of like neighbours - meaning we’d like to have a cordial, drama-free coexistence and otherwise kind of stick to ourselves.
