I moved to Canada in 2003, I think over the past few years things really took a turn for the worst and alot of the issues we're encountering now are mostly a result of government incompetency \n\n1) Instead of focusing on treatment and recovery we prioritized harm reduction and drug decriminalization which largely results in the current mental health/addiction crisis \n\n2) Instead of seeing housing as a public need, policies make housing investment vehicles (notably for rich folks in foreign countries) and locals can't really afford to buy or rent as a result\n\n3) Instead of building mass transit infrastructure including subways/light rail we continue to be extremely car-centric, most Canadians can't get around without a car but also can't really afford one due to all the costs associated with ownership. \n\n\n4) Government continues to cut back on healthcare spending despite an aging population across the country\n\nAnd one nongovernment-related aspect which is NIMBYism -- endless delays/protests on all major projects because someone is afraid their backyard views might be obstructed or some old trees might be cut.

As someone from Belgium that now lives in Columbus OH because of marriage, you're spot on with everything. Safety? Limited. Sprawl? Terrible. Rent? Eh it's not that bad. I make a base salary of $82.5k and my wife makes $50k. Our 2br 1ba apartment's rent is about $1000. It's a nice place, but it has some flaws. Our next place will be around $1500. I've told my wife I don't like the sprawl and lack of public transport here and I want to move to a place where that is less of an issue: Chicago, NYC or Boston. However, the latter two have crazy high rent.\n\nI must add, the terribly unsupported public education system in Columbus is by far the worst reason. My wife is a teacher at a Columbus City School that's almost 100% black. White families put their kids through private schools. The rest of the kids have terrible home lives and are therefore incredibly ill-behaved and under-educated. So much so that the teachers just CANNOT keep up with Ohio's learning standards. By the time these kids graduate (and that's a big IF), they would have learned about 20% of what a regular 18-year old would have learned in most of the world. This is in part due to:\n1. Parents that do not involve themselves in what their children do, and therefore do not discipline appropriately.\n2. Terrible school admins that force teachers to lower their standards to have a high passing rate for the school (otherwise it gets shut down). Also, due to the No Child Left Behind Act, admins also force teachers to teach how to pass state tests (repetitive bullshit) instead of important learning materials and/or critical thinking skills.\n3. A lot of these students are pushed into the gang lifestyle and see no future in their education. They don't even try.\n4. Burned out teachers that grew tired of the negative ROI and start giving out poor and inadequate work packets. However, I don't like blaming teachers, especially because my wife is the hardest working person I know.\n\nIt's hard to see my wife come back every day, exhausted. It pains me both for her and her kids. America doesn't give a fuck about education. The big theory is that they're purposely not giving public schools attention so they can be phased out and private education becomes the norm. And if you can't afford it? That's great, we need factory workers.\n\n\nI might convince my wife to move to Europe eventually (luckily a European marriage visa isn't as stupidly hard to obtain as it was for me to get here). Having kids in America is not something I'd like to think about. For now, I'm taking advantage of this high salary to save as much as I can and focus on advancing in my career. Sadly, that's really the only thing America is good for...

City v city Canada might be better but county living I will stick with American. And we can say what we want & own guns.

Definitely agree with the stupid pricey flights within Canada. Also agree with warm southern hospitality in the US, lived in TN, SC, GA and the people were so warm. \nThe thing about Canadian politics being boring might not be such a bad thing LOL. So people vote are less likely to vote based on the personalities but maybe more about the policies. Also less hate between parties (that might be changing bec of Trudeau...)\nAnd yes I am very grateful that one can drink tap water here in Canada and it tastes good. On my college campus in WI, I lived in a 600 square foot SHIT HOLE that cost $700 a month. I moved to a decent sized city and I pay $750 for a $1,100 square foot apartment. It’s a million times nicer than my old place too. It’s crazy to me. And $700 a month might not sound like a lot compared to LA, but in WI the minimum wage is far less and I couldn’t work full time and be a full time student. It was insane and so stressful.

Every country has good and bad spots to live in. When it comes to baseline things like government laws and such I can't live anywhere besides the US. Just won't part with freedom of speech and my 2nd amendment. It's not a perfect country by far, but I'm glad the corruption is coming out in the open. Might finally make it possible to fix some things. In my general opinion people do better in different places and nowhere is perfect. \n\nKind of a nothing comment but hope it helps your algorithm.

Dad thought my brother and I would get drafted. \n\nHealth care sucks for different reasons. The horror stories I can tell you that I'm STILL going through here in Canada is insane. \n\nLived in Texas just outside austin south/east going towards Lockhart. Different breed of human beings down that way. I loved Austin. Great food, good people. Though my dad caught shit because his parents Sicilian. Dude is a little less brown than aba. People thought he was Mexican. \n\nOther than Slag hills. Loved Pennsylvania. \n\nFlorida.. its Florida. Lived in Daytona. Too young at the time to have fun. I hated it but might have been better if I wasn't 10. \n\nI dunno. Ask me anything about both. I miss a lot about America. Dislike and like a lot about Canada. NYC has clean tap water. Problem is the pipes in your building might be from the 1800s. But the segregation is dead right. I remember being a kid (20+ years ago) walking through Queens and I'm in a neighborhood that's lauded for being the biggest melting pot. But these MFs were racist towards black people. Hell every neighborhood that wasn't predominantly black, didn't want blacks in it. I traveled all over the city and had to deal with that. Even in the Heights where most Dominicans are my complexion. Let them find out I'm not Dominican too...\n\nI found this to be true in most places I've been to in America. Hell in Florida, Jacksonville area I've seen people driving around with nooses hanging from their rear view mirrors.

During the Civil War in El Salvador, all the Salvadorian went to LA for a better life. Only to be attacked by the Mexicans and blacks. The next thing that happened, MS 13, was born in America. If Salvadorians went to Canada, MS might never have been born.

First things first I think you’re misunderstanding about what food deserts are in America food deserts are considered with poor neighborhoods. Don’t have quality grocery stores. Yeah, they might have fast food restaurants all around them, but everyone knows it is not healthy to eat that stuff every day the nearest quality grocery store could be 7 to 10 miles away and if you don’t have a car you’re SOL (shit outta luck) number two. segregated communities in America is done on purpose so that the ruling class can keep the masses divided this is how they stay on top you know the old saying goes divide and conquer they keep us apart, and they also have a strong branch of the government called media, which perpetrates, bad news more than they uphold good news especially when another race is involved in a crime hurting another race. Sounds like life in major cities might indeed be better in Canada, and I wouldn't be surprised. I think major cities in the US blow. I like to avoid them when possible. \n\nI don't know if I agree on the food though. You can find spots pretty easy in most places, and I have been to some serious backwaters.

This was a really cool episode. I'm a born and raised Canadian, but my friends and my fiancé are all from the USA, so I've got a firsthand look at the differences in our cultures and countries.\n\nOne thing I'll say right off the bat, I think a big part of what makes Canada work the way it does, is that we have such a small population compared to the USA.\n\nCanada only has around 35 million people, but there are some states in the USA that have over 40 Million people on their own. \n\nWhen you have that many people crammed together in one location, all fighting for jobs and housing and food and everything, it makes sense why you might have a culture that's a lot louder and self serving, because you have to compete with millions of people if you really want to make something of yourself.\n\nMy hometown of Edmonton Alberta, for example, we had a population of just 500,000. And I think the laid back attitude that a lot of people have in Canada is a product of that. \n\nThat's a big reason our crime levels would appear lower as well, because there's just a lot less of us.

US cost of living is high but comparing Montreal to LA is weird, my own limited experience with Canada has lead me to believe that Montreal is by far and away the cheapest major city to live in in Canada. Vancouver and LA or Seattle might be apt comparison.

Sounds like you're a immigrant yourself, there is like no racism at all, it's more like if you're a immigrant or your someone of a different culture you associate people having a problem with how you're doing things as if it's to do with your race and not your culture. When you relocate to a new country you are supposed to adopt the new culture. A Canadian finds it insulting for immigrants to come to a country and not try to integrate and be part of it. It's ignorant to come to another country and not respect their way and how they do things. Whether you like it or not there is a Canadian way and you need to do it when you come here. You do not come here and act like you do in your country you came from it's not the same thing. You definitely don't come to Canada and preach that there's racism it's not in our vocabulary you need to get it through your head. It exist, but no where else in the world would you have places like Fairmount bagel, Willensky, Schwartz that are reknown internationnally. How can Canada be racist when ethnic food could thrive so much? How can places like Satay brother in Montreal thrive? How can we have so many Korean, Japanese, Chinese businesses thriving in our country? I've never heard of a famous poutine( the dish) place in Roumania or China? You are very biased. For some owning a gun might be more important than having gov. decide if you should. You also didn't look at weather and geographic variation which US would win in no time. What about infrastructure, travel, and food cost, cost of living in general? US would take all of those. What about pension systems (Canada might be ahead on this one)? That lame half a point is just that, it's lame. US has some real sore spots: racial tensions, healthcare, weak labour laws, inaccessible higher education. But we pretty much get beat at everything else and I am Canadian.

You might want to do a series on everything that costs to buy a car in Canada. Everything from obtaining your drivers licence, to paying the fees for buying a new or used car, the taxes involved, the cost of insurance & also the cost of repairs. On top of that the rules will change from Province to Province but the costs are enough to make you want to take the bus or ride a bike.

Just more than a year living here in Canada realizations:\n\n1. So cold. Not everytime you can be so productive because the weather is a big hindrance\n2. As an immigrant, you will start from scratch. There will be great opportunities, sometimes really fast promotions or salary increase but workplaces are always short staffed that the amount of work is not worth it with how much the salary is. \n3. Some people still have preferences and you will really feel discriminated.\n4. People are polite, I am very impressed but so individualistic, it's sad. Growing in a country with a very collective type of community, you will really fee the void once you try living in Canada. you can't fully relate to everyone, be free to talk to them about everything because you rarely have common ground or understanding. I feel bad for the Canadians, its so hard to build relationships here in this country. Some of them might never experienced living that everyone of their schoolmates understand and laughs at the same meme because all of them have the same backgrounds and can relate.\n5. Housing prices are so high, it is so surprising for a country with big land mass but with very few population. Like how can be the house this expensive when winter is long, houses are wood and not stone and groceries, mall and other recreational areas are far?\n\nOverall, it's like a big scam going here in Canada. The biggest thing positive here is how powerful the currency is and the country being part of G7 and neighbor of US. Also it has very well preserved environment, scenic views. Don't get me wrong, Canada is a beautiful country but be careful of wearing rose coloured glasses and thinking the grass is greener. It seems the real reason is to use it as a stepping stone to work in the US. Whatever you do, I wish you luck! btw my partner has worked FIFO all around Australia from Tasmania in the mining and construction industry for around 20 years. Not for everyone, but we get to live on a beautiful island, have our own farm, get heaps of frequent flyer points so get free overseas trips. We've made it work for us. Our Canadian friends said they'd move to Tasmania in a heartbeat if they could!

Thanks for this video! \nI think that one of the biggest problems is extremely high expectations before making that change. Pun intended ;) \nI've lived in three different countries and soon moving to the fourth ie. Canada. Living in different places gives a broader view on society and helps understanding that nowhere is perfect. I think that immigrants' frustration primarly comes from the fact that we do not make enough research on what to expect when moving. You should write down pros and cons on moving, make sure you understand what are the most important things for you and check if that new country provides that. Watching videos like yours is a great way to start. It really comes down to what you want from life and if you are willing to adapt to achieve it. \nOn the other hand, Canadians' frustration might come from the fact that they never lived anywhere else :)\nAs for my top three things that disapoint me the most: Healthcare, Housing, Technology.

Currently, I'm studying in Canada and this video opened my eyes to the dark side of Canadian college that I never knew about. What I can say is never let your guard down. I did the research, I picked the right college. Even in Canada, I stay alerted. Only by staying strong and resilient, the Canadian dream might come true.

Most Canadian citizens & the immigrants in Canada after getting Canadian PR using it as a gateway to America, they're actually moving to a better country like USA America. Not going back to their home countries like India, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Nigeria, Romania, Greece, Ukraine, Phillipines, Vietnam, Venuzvela, Colombia etc.. Most either move to US apply for a work visa & Green Card for citizenship. Or if they're 'money minded' & highly skilled in demanded professions, they move to Dubai, Kuwait, Doha Qatar, all the Middle East GCC Gulf countries, where they earn twice the money in Gulf, than they might earn in USA, like Surgeons, Doctors, Software Engineers, IT etc

Life in Canada is isolating, lonely, depressing. People are very closed and guarded, many are snobby, elitist and passive aggressive. It is not an amazing place as it is umfriendly, gray, damp and cold most of the time. The bigger cities got hordes of meth heads and mentally ill vagrants who pollute downtown areas. Canadians like to hole up in their apartments or houses and escape into smoking weed and video games. Many young men can't get girlfriends as the women are stuck up, unapproachable or just plain wrong for long term relationship. 80% of the women chase the 15% alpha males and complain constantly that they can't get a decent guy. Oh and yes, taxes are socialist paradise high. The more you earn the more you are taxed, thus removing the incentive of even trying. Too many laws and regulations hamper development. After your family doctor retires forget finding another. Forget getting medical care unless you got a life threatening issue and even then you might just go south of the border and pay your way.\nI could go on and on, but frankly I don't care. It's a lot easier to move. It's just my opinion, because, supposedly it's a free country. However, a country is only as free as it's people and many Canadians love the prison they created.

The part about China and Taiwan, and Russia and Ukraine should be cut out. This is very wrong. Obviously, they are not the same, very different cultures, very different backgrounds. Just as US and Canada. You might want to educate yourself.
