I am Canadian and I was offered a live changing job opportunity and with the equity in my home at the moment my wife and I would of been able to by a 5000sq home with a swimming pool and palm trees but the thought of of my children going to school in the United States was a flare out no !! Absolutely not ! \nWhat parent would ever send there child to a school with such horrible gun violence. \nAnd it seems like American kids are behind the educational curve ask any random American youth on the street a simple question and there clueless about basic things unless it’s about bling bling and being flashy. \nAmerican is the Wild West

The old it hasn't touched my life is a typical American response. Until it does. There were almost 2 mass shootings a day (630+) in the US in 2023. Back in the 70s and 80s, I spent a lot of time in the US due to my involvement in sports. Today, you couldn't pay me to step across the border. Ya, all gotta get your shit together. Fascism is knocking at your door. And it's migrating north. Canadians are better educated, and with our diversity, the average Canadian has a deeper understanding of the world. We are a global village unlike the US melting pot. It's a sad statement to make, but the world doesn't love America, just your money. Way back, I loved going to the Sabers games. It was a great night out, and only a quick hop across the border. Those days are long gone, and it breaks my heart.

As an American I would NEVER want to live in Canada. Their salaries are much lower than an American salary and they have much higher taxes. As a huge hockey fan, you almost never see an American hockey player go to a Canadian team as a free agent because of the crazy taxes.

I have lived in UK, Australia, US and Canada. I spent 2 years in UK, 1 year in Australia then moved to US for my masters where I also worked for 6 years. So total of 8 years in US, I moved to India and had adjustment issues. Then 1.5 year later I moved to Canada as permanent resident. After 2 years, I ended up leaving Canada back to India. Some people suggested wait for another 13 months and return with Canadian citizenship but I had enough. What I have realized is, for tech/scientific roles, Canada or other countries are no match for the US. \nAlso, Americans are much kinder and open than people in Canada/UK/Australia. All these countries are expensive, quality of work and pay is not good. I was getting 150K CAD in Canada, where I pay 2100 CAD as 1 BHK rent. In India, I make 90K CAD and 2 BHK rent is 400 CAD. To me, America has no replacement, that's why people dont want to leave the US. I was not willing to spend whole life waiting for green card, and other countries are no match for US. That's why came back to India fro second time, despite the issues here.

Biggest issue in Canada is infrastructure. Canadian infrastructure and urban planning is a copy of post war American suburbia abd the results are that it has made housing impossible as the current rules basically has abolished any construction of missing middle housing for the middle class in 90% of Canadian neighborhoods for housing. Infrastructure and services in medium and small cities are nowhere near major city hub making big city centers expensive not even mentioningthe terrible public transportation they have ( for a G7 nation is an embarrassment that their passenge rail service is 40 years behind Europe) . In addition foreign degrees even from English nations are not recognized and it takes years and resources to get accreditation.

My brother, an American, married a Canadian in the early 1990s. He LOVES Canada. If I didn't have family dependent on me, I would move to Canada. Surprised anyone would want to leave Canada unless forced out.

Here in New Zealand, I've met quite a few British and Americans living here as well (my partner is American) but recently, I've also started seeing more Canadians coming here.\n\nTypically with British people living here, they say they move to New Zealand because of better pay, better ability to or chances of buying a house (housing here in NZ is already very expensive as is but okay), warmer weather and NZ being less crowded.\n\nA few Americans living here did say they've moved here because they married a Kiwi or they work in the film industry, but most of them say because of New Zealand's free universal healthcare, the fact we have maternity leave and better workers rights than the States.\n \nI never really expected Canada to have the same social issues as that of the USA or UK.

Conclusion: Marry a super rich Canadian man or woman in Toronto. Americans used to hear only great things about Toronto over the past fifty years and how Toronto was so much better than a lot of run-down, economically depressed, high-crime American cities. I am an American of Quebec descent. My pepere came to the US in 1900.Growing up French-Canadien lets me say that while Canadians as a whole may be friendly, Quebecquois are definitely not. I can get by because I am one of them; part of the tribe so to speak. If you are not part of the tribe they are very rude .

I don't know why we hate WEST when once we are done with all of our needs. Some of us dislike them, but in our prayers, we beg to God for grant of Canadian or American or British Visa. People have to stop using rental prices in cities like Toronto and Vancouver. That's like Americans using rental costs in Bel-Air California or Manhattan as an example of what rent costs in America. It's not a realistic portrayal of rental costs. \nHere in Quebec the the annual tax rate is between 26.53% and 53.31%, depending on income. Then you have to consider all the socialist programs that you are forced to pay into, which also sucks up a significant amount on your weekly salary. After that, you must consider that you pay 15% sales tax on almost everything. It's safe to say that half of your yearly earnings, give or take, are taken in taxes and socialized programs. As for salaries, less than 20% of the Canadian population make a 6 figure salary. We're not talking about household income. I am talking about individual income. You're not going to become rich here in Canada! The majority of people who do become rich leave Canada to avoid taxation. Canadians live a life of debt. You will live just balancing your debt to make sure it doesn't get out of control Few Canadians have money in savings without debt. The ones who do have money saved, most of them have debts on top of their savings which is counterproductive in my opinion.

I've been living in Toronto for 2 years, and I would say Toronto is one of the most overrated cities. I'm from Japan, Osaka and lived in Tokyo awhile as well. I lived in San Jose and Seattle for a while. I'm convinced that Toronto is the worst city TBH or probably Canada is perhaps not as cool as people expect. People say Canadian health insurance is pretty decent compared to American health insurance, but I think Canadian medical system's getting broken, and sooner or later it's gonna be like American medical system unless they pay extremely high taxes.

I am an American Christian, and you seem like such a lovely couple. I lived in England with two babies 1980nand I felt culture shock, so I feel compassion for how you feel living in Canada. I also attended University 4 years, NY near the Canadian border (30 deg below zero Fahrenheit in winters) so I understand how the extreme cold is hard to live through.Most of all, the Western world culture is beginning to push beliefs which even Christians can't tolerate. I'm amazed by how many immigrants are surprised at the cost of living in Canada. Don't they do research before moving here? Before i would move anywhere, I would research rent / food costs etc. The other stuff like making friends is harder to research...I am Canadian that has lived in a few other countries and I'm planning to leave at some point, mainly due to cost of living. I will take Greece, Italy, Spain, SE Asia or a few South American countries any day over Canada. Shame as Canada used to be such a good place to live.
