I met a immigrant worker the other day. Educated, well spoken, but she was working security. She told me at one point 'I came here to get ahead, now I struggle to live a basic life.'. People used to come here to opportunity. Now they come to struggle less than they did in their own country.

The problem is immigration policy and housing policy were treated as separate. Yes, I know, how is this possible? Easy, incompetence. This problem was allowed to boil and that the kettle blew up the geniuses are scratching their ass wondering what went wrong. The government's answer, move the Minister of Immigration and make him Minister of Housing. This is akin to inviting the arsonist who was responsible for the fire to put it out. By the way, listening to this pompous windbag is worth the amusement. In one interview he stated the obvious, how immigration was a problem for housing, something that escaped powers of observation when he was Minister of Immigration.

They keep blaming the immigrants..let put it this way so you might get it..lets say I invite 20 people to my football field to play European football.and I don't have a single ball to play.would you put the blame on the 20 players ? Or you put the blame on the one who brought them to the football field?

Canada has been ruined by immigration but to be more specific Indians, they are everywhere, in PEI every single service industry job has been taken over by them and so a stigma is created working in fast food, gas stations, ect. No other race works there but Indians, it’s easy to spot an Indian on the road too, if not a massive dumb Punjabi sticker on their door just look at the license plate, you will see their surname every time. I lived in canada six years. Got the citizenship. Then moved back to home country. There is both social and economic problems. Realised after doing a number of jobs and getting fired, that there is selective racism, largely immigrants are an underclass (canadian experience), too expensive, high taxes. They made it so that I could not be employable in Canada. So I moved to the U.S. in 2005 and then some years later I moved permanently to the Philippines. When there is more immigration than needed some will leave. Reverse immigration happens in every country. Do I care people leaving? No. We are getting lots of people to do jobs nobody here want to do. 500,000 X 0.825 = 412,500( left) every year(new immigrants). That is one percent of the population as it should be. \nOnly thing that is a problem is the rising rental costs in university towns because of these excess international students. My visa got rejected twice. I was really disappointed. Now in hindsight, i think it was for good. As the video depicts, soon Canada will be left without immigrants. You should tell us how many Indian immigrants actually went back to India . Not many . I have seen 20% interest rate here and you think 5% interest rate is high . Indian community is the richest immigrant community in North America . People move to United States and move back to Canada which is normal . 17.5% left Canada but 82.5% are still here , what does that tell you ? There is housing shortage and that will be solved in time . A lot of these problems are caused due to covid shutdown and excessive immigrants coming from India . Question should be asked why so many leaving India ? In 2021 and 2022 , about 900000 Indian immigrants came to Canada and 2023 will likely be close to half a million . We Indian may not like cold weather but we are very comfortable in inside house . So far this year I only had to shovel snow twice and not for months . There is no shortage of job opportunities but One need to be flexible of courier . Canada still tops in most standards and consistently in top 10 among all countries of the world .

Those who have bought houses will have to pay the mortgage for a long time. Many homeowners are paying interest only, there is no reduction in the principal. \nBus service is so sparse that sometimes more than 100 passengers wait for a 38-seater bus. \nInternational students are in a very bad situation. Spend 25-30 lakhs, live 4-5 together in basements and do hard labor jobs (warehousing, retail cashier, security). In California, Ontario at the Warehouse for designer purses i wont say which one, we have 2 immigrants who came here less than 4 months ago, they have been housed and given money and job permits. Noone at work talk to them much bc they keep to themselves. We have a homeless coworker with her dog and she is living in her car she brings dog to work too, but these 2 illegal aliens are clean, happy, well fed and are dressed nice everyday. I'm an immigrant and my immigrant friends and I were talking about exactly this just the other day. I'd like to add some context on why so few international students stay: they can't. Schools prey on this very fact. In international recruiting, these schools use the promise of thriving local industries and trot out graduates working locally as major draws to these expensive programs. Then once students are in Canada, many of these schools couldn't care less: they offer little or sometimes no housing support, no immigration advice (or in my case and many of my friends' cases: they give straight-up false immigration advice that can screw you over or even get you in trouble). There absolutely needs to be regulation and accountability for these predatory schools; I think a good starting point would be capping the number of visas they can apply for based on the number of housing units available (either on-campus or via local development subsidy and homestays). Tons of students come to Canada completely unprepared due to false promises made by these schools, and then get spit out into an egregiously inefficient and broken work visa system.\nMy immigrant friends and I are all highly skilled in our specific field. There are only a handful of people in the world (let alone in Canada) who can do what I do at the level I do it, so I would be incredibly difficult to replace if I left Canada. Despite that, and despite being Canadian-educated (Canadian resources invested in me that you'd want to keep in Canada), remaining in Canada has been a massive struggle for me and my friends. We individually spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year to apply for permits that have to be renewed annually, but take the government 6+ months to process. Because the government is so backed up, we have to apply for *extra* permits to bridge that gap (more money, and more work added to IRCC's already-long line of applications). I'm in limbo for the majority of the year where I can't switch employers, can't leave the country, etc. It's horrible. \nBut I have it better than most. Of the international students in my year, only I and one other student are still in Canada because the transition to work permits is so needlessly long and difficult. Even a graduate who does manage to get a work permit might have to sit unemployed for 6 months or more before that permit is active. How is a student supposed to survive without work for that long? In order for employers to even apply to sponsor a graduate, they often have to do a lengthy labor market impact assessment, and so these graduates are stuck in a holding pattern, and they're the lucky ones. Immigration is absolutely vital to Canada and I hate how quickly these stories turn to xenophobic rhetoric, but we have to make space in the conversation to take a look at how schools are exploiting students and policy loopholes, and why they're doing it, and address those problems. The current system isn't fair to anyone.

Canada should put visa cap including immigration per country....follow the American policy. Its simply too many Indians that is changing the demographic balance by one ethnic group called Indian. And International student should not have full time work authorization, its directly hitting the location population employment opportunities.

Canadians are learning by the process of elimination and will soon realise that the surge in population was not the main reason for the increase on housing prices or rents. The one thing no one really talks about is how giant corporations are gobbling up starter houses for smaller families which is driving the demand up and inflating the prices. These corporations have far bigger influence on housing prices than the immigrants ever will. But overall lowering the immigration eases some pressure from the system, but we need to get to the real problem.

After traveling to different parts of the world, I have yet to find a country that is better than Canada, economically or spiritually. so what if instead of sending them to over populated majors cities.... when they immigrate, they go to under populated areas...... to help build that economy up and build that part of Canada up. build schools and grow them in places where we would like development to happen. 11k of people to a under developed area that needs a economy boots / help will go along way and give the major populated areas time to grow their infrastructure to eventually allow larger immigration to happen thus growing population and economy even further. just a idea from a citizen who doesn't matter nor does his opinion. the smart people are the ones in charge allowing this situation to unfold. they are the smart ones

Can we talk about the lack of services for people coming to Canada from Quebec a very distinct province. I am an anglo who left Quebec because of the political climate and am having a culture shock here in Ontario. There are so many immigrants and services and support for immigrants which is fantastic, but it is somehow expected that all Candians are alike and can easily move from one province to the next. I have been having difficulty adapting and would like to see more services for people like me which is virtually non-existent.

Canada was built by immigrants no doubt. When Canadians are unwilling to do the low pay hard labour, and give birth to kids, there has to be immigrants to fill the gap. Housing crisis is the elephant in the room, it has been around for quite a while. Remember one decade ago in Vancouver #donthaveonrmillion? Its worse now. International students became easy solution/target for politicians to blame because they cannot vote. They were considered as solution of labour shortage back during Covid then there was a labour shortage. Sean Fraser the minister of immigration back then made it super easy for international students to stay in Canada permanently. When he takes the office of Minister of Housing, he starts to point fingers to those students. Who let them into this country in the first place? We need more roads more houses. IRCC needs to work faster to get more skilled workers doctors into the country. Putting a cap on current immigration level is not a good idea.

While this is a great thing in general...\nIt doesn't benefit the country or the immigrants when things like housing and jobs and health care aren't in place to support this influx of people. \n\nThe thing is...Canada REFUSES to fix its own problems on its own. If the excuse is don't do this because of health care then when will the right time be? Canada's health care has been at dangerous levels for OVER 30 YEARS! Always working at or near peak with long wait times. Maybe in 30 more years this will be fixed?\n\nHousing is a problem because no one builds affordable housing. The system is fully corrupt. When you hear that 500k houses have been built...then odds are 99% of those were NOT affordable housing. Meanwhile well over 50% of Canadians REQUIRE affordable housing. So how many more years will it take to fix this problem when we're not even trying to address it?

Basically, the euphemism Canadian experience is a polite way to shield in my humble opinion, a form of chauvinism and bigotry to cut out immigrants from connecting into the labor market and protecting the labor market for what employers consider real Canadians\n\nThe way the whole immigration system is work. Post secondary institutions love foreign students. They charge waaaaay more and make that much more.\nThe response against more foreign students by liberal media is the threat that your tuition will go up with limits on foreign students.\nWhat about spaces? For every foreign student there's one less space for Canadian students.\nHousing is the biggest issue today.\nPrevious to Trudeau, the issue was the cost of detached homes in big cities going up but today it's insane rental costs across the board that no one can afford.\nI have been dumb founded as to why after decades of predictable increases and stock suddenly, year after year, cost went up dramatically as stock dwindled.\nI see the same places available, no one's tearing down masses of cheap 70s built rentals so what happened?\nThen I saw the immigration numbers. Canadians aren't having kids so who is taking all this housing? It has to be immigration.\nClearly, it's time to turn the taps down and allow housing stock to catch up.\nThe ripple effect is that no one can work an entry level job in the city. Who can afford a minimum $1000 month on minimum wage? Even at $20 hour, everyone is hiring but no one is filling positions in cities where there's nowhere to rent. Even these way over priced rentals, a bedroom in a run down house has line ups to rent at $800 month.\nThe only people accessing affordable housing are people on the street or on disability who qualify for it. Low income workers are the most screwed class of people especially if single.
