I’ve been in Canada for over 24 years and I have never seen it like this in my life!\nThe main cause of the majority of issues is the housing crisis.\n\nWhat a lot of you might not be aware of is that we have not been building homes to keep up with the demand for over two decades. That’s why the price for housing has increased astronomically. And then our government decided to basically allow unfettered immigration in order to take advantage of the new immigrants’ money so they can use it to fund the Canadian Pension Plan.\n\nJust an FYI, the way CPP is funded is that the current group of working people are paying for the current group of retired seniors. And due to the lack of childbirths and people living longer, the CPP can no longer afford to take care of all the seniors in its system. Thus, the government devised a plan to have more people coming here so as to milk the money they have. Actually, they’ve even gone to the extent to basically allow seniors to be willingly euthanized… it’s absolutely bonkers.\n\nBut anyway, I digress… so then with housing at astronomical prices, you’re now pushing out the poor people onto the streets, causing homelessness. \n\nAnd when people are homeless, the average person will do drugs to escape reality and commit crimes to survive. Which is why it’s now increasingly dangerous in public spaces. \n\nThen, the transportation also never accounted for such a massive increase in population. At least not in Toronto. Which is also causing major inconvenience to go anywhere. \n\nIt used to be that if you lived in the suburbs, you could drive into Toronto pretty quickly but now, it takes like an hour and a half to two hours, making it extremely difficult to get around. And also, hard to take advantage of the “lower” housing prices in the suburbs.\n\nBut that’s not all. Part of the issue is that the Trudeau government wants to no longer have Canada use our oil and gas overnight, which is causing the increase in gas prices. Many Canadians still rely on gas because electric cars are not efficient in Canadian weather and are simply too expensive for your average person. And yet they cut off our supply of oil and gas which causes the price inflation of transport and anything that requires to be moved such as groceries and supplies.\n\nAnd don’t get me started on how our healthcare system is falling apart… even though we pay some of the highest taxes in the world…

As much as I don’t like the guy, it’s misguided saying it’s only Trudeau. Is he the solution? Not likely, but it’s a start. The issue is accountability from the provincial governments who have low voter turnout, and are allergic to investing in diversified transportation or fixing housing, or immigration laws, and taxing rich people more and god forbid they update their labour and health system. So much of these issues were present for years before he was elected, because the country just voted to get out of the recession and cut a ridiculous amount of funding. The Harper years were terrible, people forget that. He wanted to ban abortions. That’s the future his party wants. I think they need a coalition government, badly and to turn it on the provinces to come up with plans before asking for money.

I've wanted to move to Canada since my childhood. The first time I tried was when I was 22 years old; I received a scholarship for Humber College. Unfortunately, my dream was postponed because I broke my leg. I attempted again at 25 years old, but I didn't have enough money for a comfortable immigration process. So, I decided to accumulate more funds and try again.\n\nNow, at 30 years old, I find myself in a different situation. I've just bought a big house, and I'm living a simple, calm life in Eastern Europe. Here, I have everything I need: a safe environment, the freedom to travel wherever I want, and minimal taxes in my industry. Healthcare is excellent, with no waiting times, and the food is amazing.\n\nDespite these comforts, I still have the opportunity to move to Canada. But I find myself questioning why I was so obsessed with it since childhood. I realize that I earn more in my home country than the average Canadian, even after taxes and rent. Perhaps Canada nowadays is more appealing to individuals from India, the Middle East, and Africa. If I were from these regions, I might still consider moving there. However, moving from Europe to Canada seems like the biggest mistake I could make right now. \n\nCons of Canada: 1) Misconception about communism. 2) High taxes, up to 50% in some cases. 3) Expensive rents(we all know u won't be able to buy anything decent there. 4) Perception of social conformity among Canadians, where sensitive topics may not be openly discussed for fear of judgment. 5) Disparity between the country's overall wealth and the financial struggles faced by some citizens.\n\nPros of Canada: well, I didn't find anything I could not find in other countries developed countries.

I am a South Asian living in Brampton for almost 40 years and I don’t like what Brampton has become. It used to be multi cultural now it seems like one culture. That’s fine but the thing I don’t like is that the new immigrants specifically from India want that or many people with the same mind set.

Biased reporting made to look unbiased. You should read up on forced assimilation and its negative impact. The aboriginals, first nations, maori. Dont call your country a democratic country because of your ignorance. everyone has a right to their language. You do not need to be included in every conversation if it does not concern you at all and between Indians who know each other. Do you ask the Chinese or Italians or french to speak only english when you eavesdrop?Get off your high horse.Thats soo narrow minded. I have to say that I am quite apalled to hear fellow Canadians being so openly racist--not to mention just plain ignorant. For any non-Canadians watching, let me assure you that the majority of us do not embrace or abide by these sentiments--we are for the most part a progressive, tolerant people who accept and, in many cases, welcome diversity and inclusion. We are, after all, a nation of immigrants--many of whom have escaped the oppression, injustice and intolerance that plague much of the undeveloped world--in pursuit of a better life. They bring their skills, hard work ethic and adaptability to a country that would wither on the vine without them. So, it's essential that we maintain meaningful and robust annual immigration rates to avoid the fates of countries like Japan, Italy, and South Korea: shrinking nations facing hopeless futures of economic decline and demographic collapse. We also need to maintain our pace with the behemoth to the south, or risk being utterly consumed by it. I hope and pray that most Canadians understand these basic truths--especially the younger ones. \n\nNow, I will admit that with regards to immigration and demographics there are always some logistical and pragmatic challenges that are part of any democratic, pluralistic society--of which we are, generally, a leader. And, sure, our government policies on immigration, employment, education, mental health, and housing need to be fine tuned to improve short and long term outcomes. But to place all of the blame on a single demographic slice of our overall makeup is simplistic, reductivist, dangerous and downright offensive. In a word, it is racist, pure and simple. Is that really who we are, and what we want to be? I hope not.

U can't blame immigrants for following opportunity or wanting better lives for their kids. But u can blame the universities for putting profits ahead of canadian students. U can blame municipal and provincial govts for not building affordable housing in 30 years while selling out land to greedy developers. U can blame the pandemic. Problem with housing is no government wanted to build new homes. It doesn’t matter you choose conservative or liberal. If they build new houses fast and cheap ( which they can ) the whole artificially inflated housing market will collapse. Then existing house prices will dramatically decrease. Which is bigger electorate. And nobody wanna loose that ( be it any political party ) so new immigrants and students can go to hell. They are just scapegoats.

i'm canadian and i'm tired of living here. unchecked immigration is ruining this country because it drives prices up. few if any affordable places to live, insanely high grocery prices for even basic necessities, health care is slow, public transportation is inconvenient and inefficient, etc. i want to leave for a country that takes better care of the people.

The people say that they don't want immigration just don't like immigrants, they fail to realize that part of the reason the economy was growing was because of immigrants. Less immigrants means a worse off economy which is bad for every one.

Jews have lived alongside people from UK peacefully for decades. New wave of immigrants seem to be angry at everybody. If you have a passport and want to free Palestine, off you pop. It’s that simple.

Canada is a disaster. Trudeau and Sigh are a disaster. Crime is rampant. Home prices are astronomical at one and two million dollars. Florida has brand new nicer homes for 25% of the cost at $350k. Does Trudeau think that home builders are going to build and sell for 25% of current prices? Then all those Canadians that paid $1 and 2 million would all be bankrupt having a mortgage at $1 and 2 million. Immigrants couldn't care less about Canada, and want their neighbourhood to look just like the one they left in the other country. Don't you think this is a bit sensationalist to say no one wants to live here, considering millions are immigrating each year (way too many of course, but clearly many people want to live here)? The housing shortage started decades ago with the defunding of CMHC, which you didn't even mention. I guess it's convenient to have one (contemporary) scapegoat as opposed to realizing that all of these are systemic and GLOBAL issues that have been brewing for some time. Political parties are simply corporate pawns, and this is the same the world over.
