As a Canadian, I hate both Canada and America. Also the tap water sucks in both places. Remove the fluoride for God sakes... \nAlso the amount of cocaine, antidepressants and microplastics in the water should worry you. You can test it all at home with a basic chemistry set, a microscope and a glass of your tap...\nOne more thing, Canada is almost as mismanaged as America, but the whole continent is doomed. It's one big expensive scam. I hate it here so much I'm in the process of moving overseas back to Europe. Pray you never catch cancer in Canada, it'd be just as bad as anywhere else. Except Japan, or Switzerland. Healthcare in North America is a joke.

I've lived in Canada and in the US. You guys forgot that the US has a very diverse climate to Canada. Almost the whole Canada snows whereas US has desert, forest, tropical, etc climates.

i remember going from Washington DC(murder capital at the time) to Ottawa, ON and i would go for a walk sometimes if i was bored(at 2 am) that feeling of not having to watch your back was almost euphoric.

SO true about the tap water, lol! I've lived in 3 Texas cities, LA, SF, Oklahoma and Ohio, but the ONLY place of those that had even remotely decent water was SF (and IN the city... the surrounding areas still sucked). Then I moved to Edmonton and lived in 5 different buildings and the water was great everywhere. My fellow Edmontonians beg to differ, but they don't' know what they got. But then I moved to the country and my well water is horrific. :( So we fill up jugs of water at my kid's place in the city haha!\n\nLegit, the best thing about moving up here though is the healthcare. One thing people don't think about is not only do you save on your actual doctor visits, but you save month to month as well. YES, you pay for it with your taxes, but I've found that my taxes here are almost exactly break-even with mine in California, and now I don't have to pay out of pocket for my insurance in addition. Not to mention for the same taxes overall things like roads, registries (dmv), and pretty much everything else the government does is more efficient and better. \n\nMain thing I miss from the US day-to-day is 1: food. Outside of Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, you don't get much good variety. 2: good speeds and affordable f'ing internet. Canadian internet is EXPENSIVE as FACK and not overly fast compared to pretty much every other first world nation.

In the States I'd say the segregation is way less in smaller towns. At least for the south. It's more class segregation. Also in small town Texas, there's no need to lock your doors almost 100% of the time. I've been doing it the last 30 years or so as has my family before me.

In 1986 I went to Toronto and was out to see a friend in an upper middle class neighborhood. Their dog got loose late one night and I was chasing it down the street…some cops rolled up and asked if I needed any help, and I said no. They left. Th at would not have happened in some white areas in Los Angeles then. They would have thrown the dog a Billy club and they all would have been beating in me! I almost moved to Canada right then!

Well I want want I wouldn't be surprised by their tap water point but at the same time topwaters like different in almost every state because I live in the Bay and I can definitely tell you at least in the San francisco-oakland areas in Hayward areas the tap water isn't bad but in every other surrounding area one of the ways I know tap water is bad is when I wash my hands and then my hands look dried out

I've recognized how blessed I am to live in a part of the states that has drinkable tap water. I've been to almost every state and almost everywhere I've been in the states, people do not drink from the tap or if they do it goes through a filter first. Where I grew up, tap water was just as good if not better than bottled water, and where I live now (few hours away from my parents) it's not as good, but definitely still drinkable.\n\nVancouver was one of my favorite places I've ever visited, hopefully one day I'll make it over to Toronto and Ontario too.

I've been to all the major cities and even I wonder how people survive on low paying jobs, what some people pay for a Studio in a major city could afford a house elsewhere. It also seems the bigger the city, the more segregated it is, I mean you have a Chinatown in almost every metropolis I've been to. NYC Public Transportation was disgusting...Tokyo was immaculate. America is a car country, and most city planning was done with the car in mind. Roll Tide.

I feel attacked, kinda. Public transport and tap water, you’re 150% correct. If you’ve really only experienced the cities in the US though that’s definitely gonna be a super different experience. Also, California is… too much of a microcosm to represent the US in any way and LA is even more of an outlier. I live in a very rural place in canada (almost. 3.5 hours from the nearest city. 4 hours even in winter from having to be more careful driving) and im more northern than most of the country by far. We have a nice mexican restaurant (which ive been to mexico more than once so i can confirm its mostly to par lol) and a nice vietnamese cafe and some other stuff. Town is probably about 12 000 people.

I lived in Lon. Ontario for seven years and I have to tell you the air is so clean choked for a week clearing out Americans crappy air,the ghettos look like suburbs because at least in my area the properties are being taken care of,no I'm not going to say that wasn't any racism or no Gunplay it is minimum and the politics is almost as bad as United States but it's a hell of a lot better than what the state is offering you, yes there's more money in the States but you don't get a piece of mind like you do in Canada, and let me tell you about their beer store and how one of their beers is an equivalent to 6 US beers lol, I need to go back lol

Man the cost of living in NYC is ridiculous. I love almost everything else about my city, but man it's a struggle unless you're wealthy. Also, to add onto Aba's point about the diversity, even in NYC you'll see some form of separation among ethnic groups. So much so we even name some of the neighborhoods after the common demographic there. Chinatown, Little Italy, Little Dominican Republic, etc. Even so, having all of these areas easily accessible within the city is something I'm very grateful for.

Vancouver trounces almost everywhere in NA when it comes to cost of living. The 6 too. Montreal is in a bit of a bubble to that respect, since the province is considered a less-than-prosperous province.

Toronto has definitely become less safe in the last 10-15 years, although still much safer than many major centres in the USA. Personally, I've had to change some of my behaviours to accommodate heightened safety. For example, I don't fill my gas tank at night anymore because of the increase in car jackings in my area. I also don't take public transit at night because almost every day there is a new story about the police looking for someone who sexually assaulted someone on the transit system. As a woman, you just need to be more careful in Toronto and it doesn't help that you can't carry any weapons on you for self-defense. I would never move to the USA because I think it would be too much culture shock for me. But I have seriously considered moving out of Toronto to a safer area and more affordable cost of living.

I disagree with the racism part. It's not that it is not existant. It exist, but no where else in the world would you have places like Fairmount bagel, Willensky, Schwartz that are reknown internationnally. How can Canada be racist when ethnic food could thrive so much? How can places like Satay brother in Montreal thrive? How can we have so many Korean, Japanese, Chinese businesses thriving in our country? I've never heard of a famous poutine( the dish) place in Roumania or China? What about Cubas world famous tourtiere? Never! In addition, you draw conclusion with being very biased with the statistics. I am pretty sure you don't know the margin of error of the study you used! The whole tax part of this vid is wrong on so many levels. Based on your analysis, I should be paying less tax in IRL than a 200k+ person living in Candada, whereas I pay almost 46% tax (40% + hidden taxes) on my income here in IRL. And, I'm not even remotely close to 200k+ salary. Second of all, most countries have similar tax and salary requirements, where your salary is always given BEFORE tax. It's pretty common practice. Lastly, many countries requires you to register your own tax every year. It' also quite a common practice. Fair enough on giving prices before tax. That sounds bit dodgy. However, few countries I lived in have a system in place that it is mandatory to give the customer the price before tax, amount of tax and after tax pay.

I came to Canada in1998. It took almost a year to get my papers approved. It cost me $2'500.00 to get all the papers reviewed and my wife had to sign a paper where she will be responsible for me for the next 10 years. Are all these newcomers going to same process? The answer is no. So there is a big problem with the system. And I can almost feel that is more about votes for the Liberal Party than a big heart. Nothing against immigrants. But these country is collapsing and when it happens you will blame it on someone else.

I would also say the big divide between English and French. In Ottawa, almost all the people in top government jobs are held by bilingual Quebecers who look down on ordinary Canadians. If you're an immigrant who plans to work for the federal government, and work really hard on your French, you still get discriminated on your accent on French.

It's almost same about taxation in developed countries as you must pay for services. It's also an open secret that you can never be placed on the same professional position you had in your home country.

I lived in almost every province across Canada. Spent over a decade in Halifax and some of the smaller communities. The crime there is above normal. I have lost thousands of dollars in tools multiple times from break and enters and never once had a good investigational outcome. The last time was in Truro where I lost over 20k worth of tools and household goods. I told the investigating officer who did it. The drug dealing individual was not even questioned because he was an informant for the RCMP. Ontario, Nova Scotia, and many other provinces has a false crime rate. Maybe Manitoba and Saskatchewan has a really bad crime rate because the police actually do their job. You did not mention about provincial taxes, that would definitely throw Quebec under the bus. Even though I was born in Ontario, Alberta has my number.

So true! I've been in Canada for almost 10 years and I second every single post you talk about. I'm very disappointed. In the employment field there is a brutal discrimination, if you are not Canadian you have 0 opportunities. Many times I have even more than the required skills and I don't even get a phone call. On the other hand, I have applied in US and I got a bunch of interviews. Very sad.

First let me say that every country and I do mean every single one has their pluses and minuses Canada's major plus is the fact that crime is almost nonexistent as opposed to the United States where there is a mass murder every single day and a mass murder defined as four or more people killed in One Time by one person this does not even count where there is just two or three people killed at one time they're not included in the statistics the United States is out of control with violence guns you name it and I've lived here for 40 years I spent the first 20 years in Canada in my life was so perfect that I can't even dream of a better life the problem with most people is they move to the larger cities Vancouver Toronto I grew up 40 miles outside of Montreal on the great Majestic St Lawrence River one of the truly great rivers in this world my parents had a summer home on the river and every summer it was water skiing fishing boating golfing swimming you name it growing up 40 miles outside of Montreal if you wanted The Nightlife of Montreal one of the great International cities in this world then you could just drive there in less than an hour and enjoy the great nightlife that is Montreal as someone who is French and Italian I loved the winters because ice hockey was my favorite sport and I played all the sports nothing even comes close to the speed skill and excitement of ice hockey it is like soccer on steroids they're only two cold months during the winter January and February and even then it's really enjoyable as long as the temperature stayed below 32° I was happy because that meant that they could make outdoor ice rinks and I could enjoy my favorite sport of ice hockey all winter long Outdoors as someone who's lived all over the United States over the last 40 years I wouldn't trade Canada for any place else the United States is full of scammers I've been in all kinds of businesses working for different companies and there's rarely a company that I didn't get cheated by and had to take to the labor board for justice and compensation I trust nobody the main thing here is stay away from the major cities of Vancouver and Toronto and you will be able to have a great life with affordable housing and if you're into the outdoors Sports Canada is the greatest and best secondly Canada has the third largest oil reserves in the world and so there are a lot of Natural Resources that Canada has that is wealth for the country that will filter down to the average person what people don't realize is it when you live I've lived in Southern United States and most places the summers are unbelievably excruciatingly suffocatingly miserably hot hot hot at least in the Colder Weather you just put on some great looking ski wear and you can be outdoors and not be bothered by the cold because you eventually a climatize yourself to it Canada is the second largest country in the world by land area and has only a 35 million population there is a lot of room for growth and opportunity and in a safe safe environment to raise a family and at the end of the day that's what it's all about I wish I could say the same for the United States being safe but no it is not and Mexico is they have six out of the top 10 most dangerous cities in the world and Tijuana is the most dangerous city in the world with almost 2000 murders and the year is not over don't believe me just Google it the reality is that the drug cartels control everything in Mexico and the police and politicians are afraid because the cartels are so ruthless there is way too much money to be made in selling drugs and the cartels will stop at nothing to make sure they get their money by the way most of my family still lives in Canada and are doing extremely well for themselves and I am the only fool that moved to the US

as a Canadian of colour, I was a bit nervous about two non-visible minorities talking about racism, but you two were bang on. Good job on the video as a whole! It's very accurate. By the way, I actually haven't lived in Canada myself for about a decade now. Also - my mother was a doctor in her country, but wasn't allowed to practice medicine in Canada for almost her whole career, despite us desperately needing qualified doctors. It's just crazy. So many doctors immigrate to Canada, and yet they're not allowed to practice. They should at least allow doctors who have studied abroad to write a qualifying test to practice medicine so everyone can benefit. But most medical associations are very protective of their professional turf.

Every single topic discussed on this video is not only accurate but they are things i deal with every day.\n\nI work at a hotel downtown and with all the Homelessness and mental illness my job often seems more about keeping people out of the hotel than letting people in.\n\nWe were one of the last hotels to take cash and debit and we found out the hard way it just doesnt work and now we need credit cards like the other hotels which isnt fool proof and is unfair to people who dont use credit cards (like me) but its better than nothing.\n\nA lot of people are free to move around but they do not function in a way that is compatible with modern society for which there is no escape. In what world is BC not the best province in Canada? Aside from the high property costs it's objectively the best by almost every metric aside from population as quebec and ontario have more. And how the fuck is Alberta over it, that province is trash and it's only rich because of oil and resource extraction. They have also pissed away their oil wealth on stupid vanity projects and handouts to bribe their citizens. The Texas of Canada and easily the worst province out there.

Most of the land is crown land, ( even land designated for logging ) the government allows you temporary camping privileges of up to 2 weeks on that land (you can not homestead on it) , the rest is reserved for agriculture or for First Nations. Only 5% is available for freehold housing accommodation , which is why Canada is in a housing crunch. The availability of livable land is so scarce because the land that was available when the country was born was given away to homesteaders. That meant that the land was given away in large parcels. Now it’s almost impossible to make those parcels into smaller parcels without doing what is called a “land assembly” . A land assembly means a developer buys a sum of large parcels , then applies for a permit to sub divide into a new subdivision consisting of smaller houses. Even then the smaller houses that are built will still cost a small fortune, because the developer and all the people involved take a sizeable profit from the sale of the homes.

@Make That Change - thank you for putting this together, very informative. My wife (who is Canadian) and I are currently living in UK and planning on moving to Canada in the near future. I am not overly concerned about weather, cultural differences or taxes (we are kind of used to that here in UK). My biggest worry is difficulty with finding a job and the fact that past education, experience and knowledge counts almost for nothing and you have to start from scratch.
