Why do South Americans don’t use this type of energy and take back the beautiful country from their weak president? I just don’t understand. In every country, the people stand and fight for it. Many died, many survived. Use this energy and take your country back. I know they have the drug lords, but doesn’t every country? I’m not saying don’t let them come into the US, but just wish they would use this same energy and dedication to take back their beautiful lands from the corrupt leaders.

Our son (22 yo) was in a traffic accident 3 years ago. Heavy multi-trauma that necessitated 18 surgeries, the latest was 2 months ago. He still has complications that forces him into long hospital stays. If we were living in the US, not only the whole family would have been bankrupt, but he most certainly would have died from lack of fund to pay for his care. Being Canadians living in Quebec, we didn't pay a dime, and his medical care wasn't even entirely paid for by the universal national healthcare. Most of it was paid by the Société d'Assurance Automobile du Québec (provincially funded, single payer automotive insurance).\n\nEverything, including renovations to the house to make it suitable for a wheelchair user and so much other things he now needs has been paid for. All in all the cost of all the medical care, prothesis, equipments, surgeons (6 of them, diffrent specialies), multiple MRIs, scans, stress-tests, ect. is most certainly in the 7-figure by now. The single payer automotive insurance granted him a pension for life, calculated on the base of the salary he would have made in his future job, had the accident not cut short his university education.\n\nJust typing this to show a very valid reason why it makes absolutely no sense for a Canadian to move to the US, makes me tear up for families down south going through a similar situation, knowing that unless they are millionaires, they're probably going through hell. Each time we hear about the health care system in the US, we have feelings I can't even describe.\n\nEdited to add: Our son is covered by his father's complementary health insurance he has at his job. We didn't have to claim anything there yet.

Is the US govt would stop sabotaging and raping south American country's economies people wouldn't have to flee their home countries in desperation for a better life! Wish someone would tell them the US is not the promised land! They are misinformed.

One thing I found similar in the video about Desi's. Please be aware of Desi's. Everywhere you go. Don't do job sub-continent you with South Asian employers. They abuse their employees with low wages. They don't consider overtime pay. This means if you are from Sub-continent they will deal you with the same passion as employers do in the sub-continent. However, their standards are changed for local people where they do business. Because with this kinda attitude, they put D**** in their asses. ????

I am South African and feel for the US as we also have a similar immigration problem from our neighbouring states. No country can accomodate this amount of immigration. It is just not sustainable???

I'm in the far south of the US, and have never been to Canada, but I love it nonetheless, it is so beautiful! I want to go so bad. I believe I was born in the wrong state, at least, if not the wrong country. I think from what I hear and see, that I identify much more with Canadians, than I do the US, in so many ways. I love nature so much, and I've always been a very polite, respectful person, I do not like rude, hateful people, do not understand that. Maybe someday!!!

I am a Canadian and lived in the US from 1980-1992. I was a teenager and I enjoyed all the places I lived there. Mass shootings were not yet common though we did have a disgruntled employee with a gun on campus during my time in college. No one was actually shot.(This was in a very small town.) I did not get sick in the US. I have lived in Canada since then and enjoy it here too. I enjoy not having poisonous animals in the area where I live. I don't like the winters, and every winter I wish we could re-draw the border and make it go north and south! I have used the medical system up here and have been very thankful for it. The past couple of years with covid I have been especially glad to be in Canada because I preferred our response to the situation over that of the US. Most of the people in my workplace were not happy about it though and I believe 2 or 3 families actually moved to the US once the border re-opened. They like the feeling of having less governmental control in the US.

The quicker and easier way to immigrate into US is to move to Canada first, get a citizenship, and then go south?

Not to play devils advocate - I myself am an immigrant and my parents too in the US. However how come other countries like Japan and South Korea get praised for their country and not criticized for having a low number of foreigners? Or countries in Europe? I think immigration is great but of course we don’t want to take more in than we can handle and have people not afford anything like Canada. Plus a lot of Canadians or people who immigrate to Canada are also looking to come to America.

I think what you said about being desensitizing is true, I think because the gun violence, the crazy politics, and the attacks on women’s and minority rights, these are things that have become so common in the US that American started to see these things as “normal”. And to a lot of Canadians, these are our core values. A lot of us are proud that we don’t have that (serious of) these issues here, so I am not surprised in any sense that majority if not all of those people in that subreddit said no.\n\nI used to travel to the US for a living, and I actually asked to change my job so I don’t have to do that anymore. I didn’t feel safe, I didn’t feel good when I travel there. You mentioned it’s depending on the cities, and you might be right, but I can tell you I have met A LOT of very crazy people during my years of travels, and they are all friend very different places: the east, the south, the west, big and small cities.

The mantra of “we should help Americans first” is really the same as Italians complaining their wages suck because of migrants from Africa making $2 per hour picking tomatoes under 46C sun and illegal contracts in the south. I'm from South Africa where we have plenty of problems like rampant crime (that will affect you if you are ignorant) and serious electricity problems, to name only two. I have family who moved to the US and friends in Canada, and I would not move to the US. My kids are safer in school in crime capital SA because of the US gun laws, we can go to concerts with no worry for the same reason, we have freedom of religion and women are not subjected to religious-based reproductive laws (I do not understand why Tyler kept skipping over those concerns every time he came across them). We moan about our medical system, but people who cannot afford medical cover, which is most people in SA, still have access to decent medical care.

As a Canadian i can 100% assure you that our immigration system is broken. The reason for the ridiculous housing prices and low incomes is due to a surplus of labour. Because of how many Indians are coming to Canada, my country has become unlivable. Im in the process of moving south. I and most of my friends and family simply can't afford to live here anymore. Its a shame the place my family has lived for generations has been ruined to such an extent

I live in Canada and while I don't consider it to be perfect whenever I look south and see what is happening there I am so thankful I live here. Maybe the average US income is higher but a hospital stay could bankrupt you. Housing costs are higher. Poverty is higher. Inequality in distribution of wealth is higher. Number of guns per capita is much higher. Taxes are lower. Average lifespan is lower. Prison population per capita is much higher. You win in so many ways... I guess?

Canadian here - I've lived and worked in NYC and graduated university from Gonzaga in Spokane. I wish the US won the war of 1812 and Canada was part of America. I think Trump is unpleasant but Trudeau is worse. The legal system here sucks. The RCMP are soldiers not police. I'd move to the US in a heartbeat. I like the gun laws there and hunting wild pigs down south would be fun. Maybe I will one day spend more time there.

I was a French exchange student for my masters at UCSD. I met my current fiancé a couple years ago at the start of my masters and he proposed right before I left. I just got my appointment at the Paris embassy, a year after we started the K1 visa process. It’s a long, expensive and very frustrating process but I can’t wait to marry him and go to the beach again! When we first submitted our application and we looked at the wait times with the lawyer, I was so relieved to see that for French immigrants, the wait times are 1/10th of most other countries. The dream was, when I retire I was going to joint the snowbirds and flock south to Florida or Arizona. Winters for seniors in many parts of Canada are pretty rough. However since 2016 the US has gone so far off the rails, I have looked at other countries to warm up in the winter. I used to visit the US every two years, but now, I don't want to visit let alone live there. Canada is not perfect, but the overall quality of life is much better, the fear-factor of just about everything from Government, to gun-violence is just so ridiculous, I have given up on the US turning around any time soon.
