Thanks so much for sharing this Alina! I can relate to what you're going through - I was born in the UK, moved to the US at 11 and then moved back to the UK at 24. I decided to leave the US because I began to realise that it's just not an ideal place to work and raise a family. The state I lived in (South Carolina) has a better quality of life than, say, California, New York, Oregon, Washington or New Jersey, but overall the US just doesn't do an adequate job of caring for its citizens, and the US government (especially those left of centre) has its priorities in the wrong place. The UK has its own problems no doubt, but overall the UK does a much better job of caring for its citizens than the US does. \n\nIt'll be more difficult for you than it was for me because you'll be going to an entirely new country where you have no family and no social network, but you're an intelligent and daring woman, you seem to be quite comfortable around new people, and you'll settle into wherever you end up very quickly. As a Canadian, I am proud that we are finally the best at something even if it's a housing crisis lol. I lived in Vancouver for a while which is worse than Toronto for housing and I frequently saw adds that said: looking for female roommate to share bed, cleaning duties required also cooking, single female only 25-30 y'o 400$/mo and then there was a selfie of a 40-50 years old man. When I first moved there years ago, I rented a small room for 600$ i think (2015 or so) and there was no heating at all in the house. I was lucky to find a place in Fall before it got too cold but I was already uncomfortable. Apparently ''amenities included'' doesn't mean it's heated.

Currently there are no emergency shelter beds in ontario, never mind Toronto. Next door to me there are a dozen seniors living in their cars in a parking lot....because their pension doesn't come close to rent costs. \n Of course our hearts welcome immigrants, as so many of us are as well. However, our system is failing as it is....how can we accommodate such numbers of new arrivals?

Because Canadians are seeing their country disappear in front of their eyes. For a country with such a massive landmass, Canada's population is microscopic. If mass migration goes unchecked for just a few generations, Canada won't be Canada any more. The maple leaf will be replaced by a crescent moon... The same thing is happening all over western countries, and it is being done on purpose against the wishes of the majority. Mass migration from African and Middle Eastern countries is changing demographics at a frightening pace, and people are rightly concerned by that. It's completely reasonable and sensible for one to want to preserve one's culture and national identity. People have fought and died for thousands of years for such things. \n \nThe fact that so many cultures and nations exist around the world is one of the things that makes our planet interesting. It's why people travel. If I go to Japan, for instance, I want to feel the difference in the way of life, but if Japan suddenly opened its door to mass migration, I wouldn't any more. So Japan doesn't open its door to mass migration, and what would you know? Japan still resembles Japan.

it's a lie, Germany doesn't need any workers because there are no jobs to begin with. yes there are few jobs but they expect you to speak fluent German even if it's an IT job, and the salaries are miserable too, on top of that you will be taxed at 40% or even 45%

1. German companies expect people to speak C1 Deutsch out of college. Which is not only unreasonable but also impossible unless a student only studied German and not their subject matter.\n2. The companies are still milking COVID and the war in Ukraine as excuses to not hire enough people while the pool of recent graduates is increasing. \n3. People with specialised degrees are unemployed. \n\nGermany doesn't need immigration for skilled labour. It needs to change it's corporate mindset and be more welcoming and understanding of the non-Germans. Sure people need to learn your language but that doesn't mean that they'll land here, eat currywurst and immidiately start speaking the local dialect. You've to be patient and give them time, which they simply don't want to give. \n\nAnd don't get me started on the meagre salary. It's insulting.

I would love to live in Germany, I speak some German. But it doesn't make sense for me since wages are low compared to the United States. Its a shame too since I am an IT expert and from what I hear its extremely easy to get in, and most jobs don't require ANY German. But the pay is almost half. Sure, I'd probably make up for this in quality of life improvements versus the United States, but I'd be broke, in a small apartment in a major city, unable to do the things I enjoy in life. Maybe suitable for someone in their 20s-30s, not me.

Everyone says Germany needs IT staff but I'm a computer programmer with 25 years experience, and I haven't found a job in the last year and a half.\n\nAs for the language I've gotten dyslexia and I've always had problems learning languages, I've been trying to learn German for several years and I'm still awful.\n\nAs for Government offices you always have to speak German when you register where you live, or when you sign on une0loyed, or anything, you always have to speak German in a government office.\n\nCompared to the UK where you are not allowed to discrinimate against someone who doesn't speak English. Every government office outsouces translation services to companies who translate 200 languages into English. So where you're adopting children, or signing on unemployed whatever interation you have with a government worker you can do it in one of 200 languages. These outsourced translation services are basically a telephone call centre with translators on hand to help.\n\nIn the UK most forms are written in multiple languages. The form for unemployment is written in about 40 languages, if you don't speak one of those it'snot a ptoblem the outsouced tranlation services can help you fill in the form.\n\nIn Germany you have to speak German.

Hi Germany, please stop putting advertisements for trained medical staff in Brazil. We have critical staff shortages here, and your nation doesn't provide security for our nationals and their families.

Europe needs workers but it doesn't pay like USA atleast in IT. Also in India the pay in IT for senior roles are on par in terms of purchasing power with that of Germany

Hey! I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada,population around 1.2 million. We have a huge awesome river and river valley that is utilized year round. There are non stop festivals, right now we have the Cari West the largest Caribbean festival in western Canada. Our tap water is amazing, my daughter rents the main floor of a renovated house that includes a garage for 1,400 a month. Gorgeous south side neighbourhood within walking distance to anything. Lots of imperfections as it is a big city and yes there is crime but it does not define what I do and where I go except possibly late at night. The cold in the winter is tolerable for the most part but that doesn’t stop any one from outdoor activities. Just put your warm clothes on and just get out there. I get fed up with winter when it drags on but all of a sudden we’ve been having record breaking heat this summer so I am looking forward to Autumn. We’re 4 hours from the fabulous Rocky Mountains and the wonderful city of Calgary is about an hour 1/2 from there. Alberta is my province and Edmonton is my home. The rest of Canada varies from one province to another. PS. We’ve travelled to various locations in the U.S. and were always treated well and enjoyed our visits, just sayin!

I am from Pakistan and all my friends and relatives moved to UK, US, Australia and Canada. When I say all I mean 18 out of 20 left Pakistan and they don't want to come back to Pakistan ever because who doesn't want a better lifestyle for themselves and for their future generations but my father advised me never to leave your country because no matter what other countries will never accept you as their own citizens. Instead of leaving your country try to make it better. \n\nToday I see exactly that happening throughout the world. They want their countries back and you see their hearts filled with hatred against these immigrants. Sooner or later these immigrants will have to sell everything and come back to their countries. What a wise man my father was!

As an Indian i agree with Canadians as students were not promised the PR , they were only promised study visa. And to get pr in canada one must put in a lot of work and be eligible doesn't matter from where the immigrant came, protest won't change anything

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that when you let the amount of new immigrants into Canada in the last 3 years that exceeds the total immigrants admitted in the prior 10 years, you are going to see major shelter inflation. Couple that with a low-interest rate policy post GFC and leave rates for that low for that long and you are going to witness an epic housing crisis. But not just that - these new immigrants become fodder of cheap labor that pushes out our very own Canadian citizens from these positions, with the more marginalized ones ending up on the streets. \n \nThere is a Motel 6 in my neighborhood that has been taken over by the Canadian government and converted to temporary housing for new immigrants. All paid for by Canadian taxpayers. Why isn't our own government using these funds to fix the housing crisis, or help it's own citizens with more affordable housing but instead they continue to exacerbate this problem by letting a huge wave of immigrants that overwhelms the Canadian infrastructure. More proof? Notice more locked up goods in your local stores? The demand shock has pushed the cost of living for everything from food to shelter that these Indians who are these same new immigrants are resorting to shoplifting, and extortion! \n \nIf you are going to bring in immigrants to prop up Canada's aging demography at least tighten your admission standards and bring in more educated ones, with more liberal, more considerate and more courteous dispositions. Unfortunately the claim of racism is what immediately shuts down any real discussion of this issue.\n\nThe fact of the matter is housing prices are FAR too high. And while there are certainly main contributors, one cannot simply ignore the area of supply and demand. Too many people looking for too few locations to live. It doesn't get more basic than that.\n\nThe PROBLEM is our economic growth numbers are DEPENDANT on immigration, and if we just cut immigration the numbers will plummet and foreign investment will tank. We'd dug this hole for ourselves by voting in leaders that rely on immigration to prop up what is fundamentally a very weak economy.

Scapegoating? It's simple supply and demand, and nothing can change it. Socialism won't fix it, importing impoverished people won't fix it, legislation won't fix it. You have to attract people with the proper skillsets to make the country and city better. Having a booming population and no room to grow doesn't do that. The California Bay Area and Los Angeles area has already seen the problems this causes, companies and skilled workers are moving to places that they can afford to live and build companies. With more people comes less opportunities, Canada needs to learn from the mistakes of others. Do not take everyone, take those who want a better life but can also give back to the country.
