Other types of reported crime may be up, and people may FEEL less safe (due to high levels of vagrancy, increased media reporting, and politicisation of crime trends) but Canada still remains a very safe place to live.

This is a very thoughtful and balanced review. As a retired Canadian who had a good job for most of my life, I'm saddened by the decline in almost all areas of life, lifestyle and and people's aspirations in this country. This decline actually seems quite rapid, I would say from 2015 onwards. Housing in major centres was expensive, but it has skyrocketed in the past decade. There has been a decline in many institutions: 1. health-care, especially noticeable since the pandemic that coincided with many boomer medical staff retiring, but also by our sclerotic institutions refusing to enable foreign-trained doctors to work here. Many foreign-trained doctors in the Vancouver area are doing jobs way below their qualifications while many people cannot even get a family doctor. Crazy. Econonically, there seems to have been no plan at all from the government as we exited the pandemic. At least the US had a plan, to 'build back better'. Our government just floats along as if everything is fine, when the decline is very visible especially to older Canadians. We have admitted 1/2 a million people a year from overseas, so our economy should reflect this and show an upswing. But no, we're in a 'technical recession' as of December and probably a real recession as of last week. I have never voted Conservative in my life, but Trudeau is a flaky dimwit with a famous name who has no clue what he is doing. A fool, in fact. He's mismanaged our foreign relations beyond belief, and nothing has improved domestically. When Pierre Poilievre says 'Canada is broken', I believe it. We deserve much better leadership; in Canada's case, the rot does come from the top. Justin the entitled idiot is much more like his mother than his father.\n\nLong rant. Many of your numbers are wrong sweetie. Here are the facts;\n2 years ago, you would go to IGA (where food is fresh but it is pricey), you would get out with 2 bags of groceries for about 120$. Today, it is 180$ for the same 2 bags. this is NOT a 10% increase... but almost the double in price!\n\nRent, in Quebec province, have gone from around 1,000$ to 2,400$ in less than 5 years, and each time a tennant leave his place, the landlord rise (against the law but nobody can do anything) the rent often by 25 to 40%!!! The Demand is so high, that he can refuse you for any reason (including racism, children, pet, smokers) he can think of. Again, this is against the common law but in truth, there is nothing anybody can do, unless you can bring him to court, which takes lots of money...\n\nSo in reality, from the last 5 years, almost everything has double in price and salaries have barely start to rise (mostly due to unions who revolted) but if you are not part of one, your salary basically stayed the same.\n\nA very good advice, don't come to Canada. There is no 'dream' here anymore. it is hell. And even if you find a decent job, you will be ask to do the job of 4 peoples and taking your vacation will be near impossible without losing it. Nobody cares if new or old immigrants are leaving Canada. It doesn’t matter nor does it show the real importance to our cost of living crisis. How idiotic can people be? I see a lot of people in the comments romanticizing the United States. We have about 250,000-300,000 homeless unvetted folks from all around the world sneaking through the U.S. southern border each month. Fact: a couple of hundred people on the terrorist watch list have been caught at the border (and reasonably for every one caught and apprehended, a few more haven't been caught and are setting up sleeper cells as we speak). All the while, we are facing a dire housing shortage, and an explosion of homelessness and lawlessness is hitting every major U.S. city. It's about to get very crowded and even more violent here. Come for the opportunities legally, but always watch your back and be prepared to defend yourself, your home, and your family. A peaceful, quiet cold life in Canada may not be that bad in comparison. It doesn't take long for a lawless country to fall from grace no matter how prosperous it seems. Look at what happened to Venezuela within a single decade.

Rent will keep increasing as there is no competitive market. as many of the people in Canada are already operating carousel tax fraud. Look that up on W5 and Canada is doing nothing to stop this, guess where all the ones at the top of that carousel are from? As long as there are ones operating illegal business earning more than the average hard worker being able to afford higher rent the rent will not be decreased but keep going up. Saying that they are bringing in mostly younger people is a lie too, they bring in everyone. That our workers are aging out and there will be nobody to do the work. Let's think about this clearly, as the population grows we need more businesses, more schools, more produce etc... Fact we need the same amount of business for a community based on the size of the community I would think. In the 1800's a small school house was sufficient, a local convenience store was enough with a mail order catalogue etc.. As population grows you need more. We also now have self check outs etc.. We are cutting down Canadas number one resource trees to make way for more and more roads etc.. Having to spend more to change and widen roads, feed these refugees, support them till they get situated, house them for how long, educate, train them, and then hope they can actually adapt and not hate us etc.. Look around the world and not just in our own back yards i.e. what happened in NY today, look at Britain afraid to put up Merry Christmas not to offend or any Christian monuments. Yet we have to tolerate. hmmm As said before I am neither Christian nor Jewish I am Natsarim and view those things as pagan myself but feel this world is going down the wrong path and nobody should have to cave in for the sake of others. My first visit to Canada (the so called Province of Quebec) was in 1972. If you've had asked me at that time where was paradise, I'd have answered to you that it was right here in Quebec and particularly in Montreal. I spent two years and went back home in 1974. I came back five years later in 1979 with the intent of staying and I did. I've spent decades of wonderful years here, and although I will leave next year, I will still remember with nostalgia the lost best decades (70s, 80s and 90s) I'd have spent in Montreal. I will remember the most beautiful city of the world and what it has become in the years 2000 amd counting. I remember how clean and well maintained that city was; how its people were among the most polite and civilized in the World; how life was so easy and affordable; how tolerant as a society the French Canadian one was and so on. Today, all that is gone, and when I take a look at the pile of trashes and garbages on the Ste-Catherine street and Saint Laurent Boulevard, it makes feel sick. In fact, Montreal has become a huge Third World city, and it is not better on a social point of view : you can't walk one block or two without being dragged by a homosexual or a lesbian. Speaking of lesbian and homosexual, you can't keep your work if you don't support the LGBT and or willing to date your boss. I am leaving next year to go back to my country where there is still a seemingly willingness to normalcy, but since the LGBT has managed to sneak its power everywhere, I am not holding my breath of a bright future overthere, but it's my home and I prefer to be there and deal with it.

It’s been 5 years for me here and I honestly can say I have achieved nothing in my life yet. It scares me when I think I can’t return whatever my parents had invested in me. Reason why these women say Americans move there. When in fact, 400,000 Canadians flock to the US and live half the year here, not in Canada ! Canada has also less attractions to visit while the US has everything! from deserts, rainforests, canyons, beaches in 50 + National Parks, hundreds of National Monuments & thousands of beautiful State Parks. Why do I know ? I traveled all of the US….so beautiful….. i hope Canada can boast a paradise like Hawaii, Guam USVI, Puerto Rico to name a few. I had been to 85 countries, covered as much in each country. I can say the USA is the most beautiful in the world. Canada is no comparison. No way im moving to Canada…. i have the best weather year round here in California….

I've recently had experiences with the US healthcare system through my partner, who is American, and I was appalled. I would challenge that the health care is higher quality in the US than Canada. I saw a complete lack of care, unprofessionalism, incompetence, and a bureaucratic mess the likes of which I've never experienced here. Even the premiere hospital in the region couldn't compare to the level of care I have experienced in the larger city hospitals here. Of course, his care did cost several thousand dollars a day, for which they sent him a bill after sending the original bill to the wrong department to get paid (through his insurance). It was a mess, all during which he suffered, had them come up to 2 hours late with his narcotic pain meds, taking up to an hour to answer a call bell, and generally being the antithesis of care. I am very happy that when we first began our relationship, I made it clear that I would never move to the US, and he was okay with that.. In fact, he's very much looking forward to leaving the country of his birth, for whom he served in the military for 20 years, and moving to Canada.

Actually, I think you have a very limited view of your own people struggling there. Lots of Americans are not “getting by”. The fact is America is the ONLY developed country in the world without healthcare for its people. That is a shame. \nNot everything in America is the best as you say it is even if you can pay for it. That is a misconception. \nIn Canada - we like to look after each other. The weather in Seattle is the same as the weather in Vancouver, Canada.\nActually upstate NY is indicative of the level of violence in the US. The US has 100 times the violence of Canada on average.

Born and raised in Ontario, from immigrant parents. What I can say is Toronto was holding on before the pandemic and once it hit things fell apart. Parts of Toronto look like a Batman movie. What's wrong with Toronto? People who live in the city don't want to pay higher property tax like every other municipality surrounding it, so they can't pay for everything. Maintenance is neglected, very few rental buildings being built, a safe injection site at a tourist area (Younge-Dundas Sq) isn't really smart. Add the fact Canada was coasting on a good reputation internationally, so all types of people coming here seeking refugee status, which fine we are compassionate helpful people but at a certain point its too many people. Things aren't being run to benefit people and improve their lives, it more feels like we're patching things with duct tape and saying its fixed.

I am an immigrant from South Africa here in Edmonton since June of 2023. What the brother is saying is true. Canadians make no room for the human element in the workplace/environment. Everything is based on productivity at the expense of your humanity. They also treat workers as very expendable and disposable. The fact that they import so many foreign workers to do certain jobs is perhaps a reason why born Canadians no longer want to put up with the exploitation (I don't know if this is the true reason though).\n\nCanada is very convenient, and public services and infrastructure are amazing compared with South Africa. But the rest of the culture is very sterile. Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and Ice Hockey are considered cultural identities. Maybe the older generations had a distinctive culture, but most Canadians of today's are only interested in consumerism and the car lifestyle. If you are looking for people with warmth and depth, you will most likely find it with fellow immigrants (and maybe the poor and marginalized communities of Canada).\n\nCanada is a very safe country, and South Africa may not be worth it for me to return to. But the strongest element I thought for coming to Canada was that people here appreciated life and each other. This is not true. Canada is 'stable and happy' because the people are intoxicated by the comfort that material wealth provides the individual (despite all their complaints and problems, most Canadians still lead very comfortable and easy lives). Take away their comfort and materialism, and they won't know who they are. They won't know how to stand together either since they have been so strongly conditioned to live for themselves as individuals.\n\nCanadians are known for their politeness and friendliness, and this is true. But there is a big difference between politeness and kindness (and being genuine). Canadians are not kind.\n\nMy opinion is obviously limited and biased. I am sure there are wonderful and pleasant exceptions. But I will still limit these as exceptions. \n\nThink hard before choosing Canada (and perhaps also the USA). Unless you have a strong community to support you here, it will be a lonely and alienating experience.

While returning from a trip to Europe in the late '90s, I came across an article praising the city of Houston, Texas, destined for a promising future, the choice of many immigrants who settled there. As my father was an American citizen, I thought it would be easy for me to settle there, to earn my living there as a career French teacher, given that the article in question mentioning openings in this domain. I went there to assess the situation. I had a few fruitless interviews with schools looking for a French teacher, because in Texas, the education system is denominational, and I am a non-practicing Christian.\n\nMoreover, the reception of the hotel where I was staying forbade me to go out at night if I wanted to return home safe and alive. Indeed, the article did not mention the high crime rate in Houston and that many people were armed. In fact, posters on public transport warned passengers to hide their weapons in plain sight. This was enough to convince me that I had to stay in Canada, even if the country is not perfect.

Another fact is Venezuela is a TPS country which means no more than a designated number of asylum seekers can be admitted into the US. So b4 you go believing what you’re seeing and hearing. 8:15 there’s a reason for this. It’s a melting pot in America. Bringing all these different cultures together… but if too many from one country show up, they’ll make a community too large that they don’t need to melt with the population. There are Chinatowns and Little Italys and whole Mexican communities, but ultimately everyone has to interact with everyone else. Allowing 300,000 Indians to get green cards every year and only 1,000 Norwegians would lead to the Norwegians merging well with the country, while the Indians would all move to one or two cities and make entire sections of the cities like small versions of their own country. Which is the last thing we want. Once an immigrant community gets enough power to be a voting block, things are scary, but once it has enough power that they start getting their own representatives and passing laws for the rest of us? Laws the look like laws they had back in their own countries… that led them to run from their countries in the first place? It’s a concern. We want people to adapt to the USA and not try to adapt the USA to them. Over time, the US does change due to the growing voting blocs. But that’s after generations of those immigrant populations getting larger, and their children being born and raised in the country they’ve adapted to. When I see a protest of Muslim immigrants burning pride flags, or Chinese and Spanish-speaking Hispanic immigrants who never bothered to learn English, I see problems with our immigration system. But the kids of the Arab immigrants will be more tolerant, and the Hispanic kids will have grown up in American schools. Most Chinese-American kids might speak some Chinese at home with their parents, but they’re worse at it, and their first language is English. It takes second Generation immigrants to really start meshing with America. But if entire school districts are all Indian, and every store, restaurant, and business in a whole town is Indian, then those kids won’t adapt to America. They won’t get bits of their home culture from their time at home and with their neighbors, while also getting bits of American culture from their classmates and other people around them. Nope. They’ll only be exposed to the first Generation who completely took over the area- IF, we allowed for unfettered immigration from the largest countries. It’s a fact that immigrant communities like to stick together. But if not enough people are in that community that you need to reach out to others around you, it helps expose you to the rest of America… Anyway! There are a ton of shows that indirectly show this phenomena. Fresh Off the Boat. The Sopranos. Even Brooklyn 99. We see as traditional and hard-to-adapt parents have to deal with kids in the next generation who are more American, don’t follow the same customs and traditions as their parents, and overall just left more of their old culture behind. No one is asking that immigrants abandon their cultural ties, but if you come to America, there are things that people need to change and accept if they’re going to live here.

I suspect that the wages paid referenced in the video reflect, at least in part, the fact the US immigration and work permit system is so restrictive.\n\nThose restrictions can artificially inflate the wages due to the small supply. It would be informative to look at how both countries compare to other major markets. Maybe Canadian wages are ridiculously low. Or maybe US ones ridiculously high.

Tyler's reaction to Canadian fears about school shootings throughout this is that this is a big city problem, and if you move to a small town, you'll be safe and not have to worry about it. So, I got curious, and looked up the population of Sandy Hook, home to one of the most famous (feels gross to describe such a tragedy that way) school shootings. It has a population of less than 10,000 people. What is a small town to Tyler, because 10,000 people seems pretty small to me?\n\nAs a Canadian, I was utterly flabbergasted going into a US pawn shop and them just having a gun room. Enough guns to arm a small army. Hunting rifles. Handguns. Even one that looked like some kind of assault rifle. You can get guns in Canada, but at like, a hunting store, with proper licencing. The fact that you could go to a pawn shop and just...browse the guns there is so alien to me. Every country that has tighter gun control has fewer school shootings, and shootings in general. Like, shootings still happen here, but not to the same extent they do in America. American gun culture enables them because they both make guns so readily available, and have a culture that celebrates gun ownership in a way other cultures, like my Canadian culture, do not. I think our last school mass shooting was in the eighties? So, if I lived in the US, I don't think I'd be afraid to send my kid to school, but it would be way more of a concern than it is here, where I don't even consider the possibility of that happening at all.

The US. have always TOLD the world that they are the greatest country on the planet (lmao) . I’m with my fellow Canadians, I’ll visit the US (although even then, it’s beginning to look less and less ideal) but over my dead body would I live there. \nThe fact you have become desensitized and don’t discuss school shootings is baffling. 4 or 5 years ago, there was a shooting where I live in Canada. The whole city was on lock down. I believe one elderly woman died, and 3 were injured. The person was caught, arrested, and is rotting away in jail. It hasn’t happened since. People still remember it. My little sister and I were scared, so we hid in my bedrooms closet. (It was on the second floor, and there was no way anybody could break in and get up there easily.)\n\nHealthcare is a huge issue. My family has a long line of health issues, and with that in mind, the risk is just to obscene.\n\nI am a woman. The fact that laws are being stripped away from us by old white men who have no idea what it is like to be a woman in the states is horrifying. \n\nGun culture. It’s near-on impossible or at least it’s incredibly difficult to get guns here. Owning guns isn’t respected. When people die from being shot, it’s remembered and spoken about, even years later. At least to me, it seems you care more for your Guns and the rights to own and use them, then Women who want to have bodily autonomy.\n\nYour political issues. I don’t even know what to say at this point beyond. The entire senate is rich old straight white men who like to make laws about groups they aren’t part of, and strip laws away from others. There was a time I would have. My father and Grandfather grew up in New York city as children and spoke highly of the States. Since 2016 I would seriously not consider living there. The gun violence that occurs their has gotten to the point that it has to be especially eggregious before it makes the news. The cavalier attitude towards guns and gun saftey is disturbing even from your politicians. it would be a recipe for loosing your privalege to own a firearm in Canada if you did what many of us see americans do with their guns. Open carry. Not allowed. Concealed carry. Not allowed. There are courses you need to take and pass on firearm saftey and gun use here, before you are given the privaledge of owning a firearm. Those firearms need to be stored properly or carried in cases at all times when not in use \n\nThat being said I have done those courses and I own guns. Rifles to be precise and a shot gun I use for hunting food. Pistols are not easy to get here and you can only use them on a range. The only people legally carrying pistols in public are the police.\n\nHealthcare is fine if you are young and healthy, with a job. Hi Tyler. I think that when you say you've lived mainly in small towns and that most people are pleasant may stem from the fact that you're a white male. Many if not most small towns in America suffer from a lack of cultural diversity. It's easy for them to be kind and pleasant when they hardly ever get confronted by anyone outside their cultural norms. How accepting would they be if a bunch of families from other cultures would start moving into their little piece of paradise? Would they remain as pleasant and friendly? That's where the real test would be. Mind you, I'm not sure it would be so different here in Canada if you look at more remote villages.

As a quebecoise, canadian french, I think we're still far from all problems in the USA. But we shouldn't forget that there are 300 millions more american people than us, canadians. The more we'll grow as population, the more problems of all kinds will follow. So no, i would never move to USA, it's a fact, but I think it's a little unfair to compare both countries. Plus, Canada tends to be more and more influenced by USA and their politics... And we're no safe anywhere in the world. There are not a lot of them, yet, but still, we've got also few mass violence shootings increasing for more than 10 years now. It exists here too. Nothing happens in a small village because we don't expect it to happen most of the times. But as beautiful as Canada may look, I can tell you it will never be the same again. So I just want to say just the fact that you have to think about where you want to live for religious, race or safety reasons that is a problem. As a Canadian that travels/moves for work when I look for a town or a city to live it’s how hard is it to visit family/friends is there hiking/fishing/hunting how long do I have to drive to the kids school. I never look at the crime rates in a city, or the number of school shootings, can I get insurance at the new jobs if needed…. And it’s really sad that most of you do.

About 25 years ago I would have been happy to move to the U.S. It looked my current job was about to end, and I had a skill set that matched what a lot of employers in the U.S. were looking for. Unfortunately U.S. immigration laws made that extremely difficult. Now I'm retired, and I would still like to move to the U.S., except for the fact that I would have no health insurance down there, and health care costs in the U.S. are the highest in the world. It's true that you do need a gun down there though, and you'd better be trained in how to use it.

Some people have commented about Indian accent, here are the facts. \n\nSo only Indian accent bothers you. Unfortunately, we Indians are the world leaders. For the following reasons with our uncomfortable accent\n1. In the USA, we are less than 1%, and guess what? 6% of the yearly tax of the US is paid by Indians. Look at the statistics. It's all there. \n2. In the US and Canada, most of the hotels, gas stations, and liquor stores are owned by Indians. \n3. CEOs of the tech giants are Indian. \n4. Even UK Prime Minister is Indian. \n5. The winners of spelling bee competitions are Indian kids. \n6. Median family income among Indian Americans between the ages of 25 and 55 was $133,130 in 2019, well above the white median income of $86,400.\nWe don't care about people who could be judgemental. Yes, the accent is not important for anyone who wants to grow. No heartfeelings. I said this just to clear the vision of some people.

So I decided to just fact check one thing here, or maybe not fact check rather gain more insight... looked up TD bank executive list and they are like half minority race, I'm getting the feeling this channel cherry picks things. Still good video though.
