By the numbers Canada illegal border crossings and Fentanyl crossing volume might pale in comparison to Mexico but it’s important to note that it’s still a rising problem they’ve yet to fully understand. Look at how much of the Northern US border is unguarded compared to the southern border. This tariff war between the US and Canada is no doubt a problem but Canada is absolutely a part of the reason it exists. As I understand it, the US tariffs mean things imported from Canada get a few slapped on top and that is paid by Americans, to discourage them from buying Canadians things. Why wouldn’t Canada continue importing US things as before and not put extra fees on top, so they don’t have to find new suppliers and cause disruption? Then it is just America punching itself in the face not both of them.

Is it possible that this is all about access to critical minerals - which Canada and Ukraine hav in abundance. America has form in creating a pretence to go to war to protect access to cheap oil. But in the past these wars were against arab nations and so the West found it easy to 'other' and accept the need for war. Now America under Trump is hoping to secure critical minerals (modern day oil) - but because they are allies he cant start an outright war. So hes doing it through trade.
