I get it this is a issue of religious sensitivity. I’m from Canada and we cannot open carry knives or firearms it’s against the law, even pepper spray is illegal. In the USA the law differs from state to state and schools and universities have their own policies. Usually you can get permission to carry a kripan in school if the blade is not sharp and it’s hidden under clothing. Schools are always understanding and allow it. Sikh or not, religious reason or not, if you openly carry a knife strapped to your chest to a crowded university like the guy in the video did some one is going to call the cops on you. Have some common sense. Yes, religion is a right but it also comes with responsibility.

At the time when this was made one of the necessity was when sikh community had to protect people of india from tyrant Muslims rulers but in todays age it does not hold the same value or necessity so can or should be changed for something less threatening.

i’ve seen and knows so many nihungh singhs shastardhari openly carrying their traditional weapons in public transport as well as universities and everywhere none of them encountered in such situations because people knows about them who they are why they are carrying them. I myself encountered one time a white lady ask me in a grocery store why you are carrying a knife i tell her it’s a part of our religious practices you can google it and she replied i know that but u shouldn’t do it? then i just simply reply you know it and again you are asking why or to stop it si why don’t you google that what is the result when people try to stop sikhs to do so?

The problem is, he could keep it inside his t shirt and no one would have asked him to remove it. It is about the Sikhs and the Muslims that in the foreign country they become too sikh and too muslim so that other people get attracted towards them and want to convert. The cop doesn't know about his religion so what is he supposed to do

Its so disgusting to read Indians comment that knife should not be carried by them. Like the sikhs have done so much for the nation and we as human should be the first one to be aware of why they carry kripans. Yet some idiots wanna show that Americans are right. Stop licking their feet!

I get it, he is religious. \nbut you cannot give one religion the rights to open carry a weapon. so yeah, I know Sikhs are very nice people, but they can just carry something like a wooden knife or something to satisfy their religion and satisfy the law

The kirpan is a curved, single-edged dagger or knife carried by Sikhs.Traditionally, it was a full-sized sword but modern Sikhs have reduced the length to that of a dagger or knife due to modern considerations based on societal and legal changes since then. It is part of a religious commandment given by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699, in which he gave an option to the Sikhs, if they accepted they must wear the five articles of faith (the five Ks) at all times, the kirpan being one of five Ks

I love Sikh people’s religion but i don’t know it’s scary these days, anyone can be doing and saying this we don’t know what are the intentions, some are in clear view and some are not but we don’t know…which one can be raised to harm.

People carry guns and shoot innocent people who are may be from the same religion. But police was afraid of this boy whose religious beliefs are different and to carry a knife. ?and they say USA is the ambassador of human rights?for every religion? Dude in india, sikhs can also carry big swords. No one bother them. And how many times you heard about shooting in public place in India?funny . ?

He is our Indian brother from the Sikh community. Kirpan is one of the 6 essentials that every Sikh must carry in Sikhism - Dastaar (turban), Kada (steel bracelet), Kesh (uncut hair), Kangha (wooden comb), Kachcha (cotton underwear) and Kirpan (steel sword). He was wearing a turban. And if they still can't recognize a person from Sikh community from actual troublemakers and terrorists, then it's deplorable. That police officer must be immediately suspended till he learns his lesson. Jai Hind ??

In India there have been many cases where a sikh man involved in a normal argument had pulled out his so called religious symbol (knife) and fatally injured the other person, so much for a religious symbol. The problem with sikh man carrying a knife in the name of religion is same as an american carrying a gun in the name of constitutional right. Allowing any one to keep a knife just because their religion tells them to so is dangerous act as you never know how much of tolerance level that person has. Complete nonsence

sikhs must be disarmed in India soon otherwise we will see the conditions of Anti farming laws where a labour was killed by these kirpan holding men , covid crisis where a police officers hand was chopped off by these kirpan holders hence at last everyone must be allowed to carry weapon otherwise no one should be allowed to carry.

He's a sikh, he took it like it was nothing.\nThis is why one needs to understand what values and freedom you get in india.

Whoever commenting here bring knife to a university stating it as one of the sikh culture, ask the Indian sikh people who are in india if they are doing the same thing in india? They will say No. Coming to this video he intentionally did that just as an internet stunt to gain views and to do some crazy stuff.

That's absolutely fine, knife earlier Sikh used to carry because of mugals and khalsa was also created to protect Sikh and Hindus from Islamic Invaders , why the fuck he need to carry a knife in University, he is having his beard and turban that's enough for his identify this jerk is a khalistani show off over enthusiastic who is trying to be a Sikh, In India we have millions of Sikh hardly any one ever carry this

No one in this world has the right to say no to wear Kirpan in this way. Our gurus taught us that. They have previously apologised for the foolishness of their police officers, that is the power of the Sikh. ??
2022-10-04 0
okk... so no one in the comments actually knows what that knife is for sikhs.... their history is darker and braver than most of the heroes in the world... \nBut he should have taken a smaller one if he is living in a country that doesn't know anything about his faith.... \nmeanwhile guns are allowed in school though

I speak for myself and not on behalf of anyone.\n\nFirstly, in any such situation be it any religion, caste etc, before reacting, imagine if this was happening to your own son/daughter, your own brother/sister. \n\nSecondly what faith one chooses to practice and how they embrace it, be it wearing a kirpan, a burqa, or keeping a shika(choti), etc, especially opinions like what one can or cannot wear/do, lead to more harm than good. We don't live there, it's not our religion, it's not our life, then who are we to condemn and be opinionated about them.\n\nThirdly, whether the kirpan should be allowed inside an educational campus can only be determined by the campus authorities, the local police and the Sikh community representatives there.\n\nYes, he could have and should have worn it on the inside just like so many Brahmins wear the sacred white thread (yajnopavita).\n\nHe could have taken prior permission from the college authorities to freely wear it if possible and all this could have been avoided. Maybe he doesn't get the permission to wear it, who knows, there are countless possibilities.\n\nAnd lastly, I've come across so many comments labelling the Sikhs as Khalistanis, then if there's some other incident, commenting that people of so and so faith are terrorists, etc.\n\nBy all means, please call us Khalistanis, please call us terrorists, call us anything you like, but we'll continue to respect and love everyone.\n\nIt's a shame that our Jawaans are dying on the border fighting for their country, fighting for our country, fighting for us and we are creating divisions amongst ourselves. Petty name calling and what not.\n\nWe are Indians first, any Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Buddhist, or Parsi...Indian getting harassed is my brother/sister getting harassed. Their loss is our loss.\n\nPS: If I have offended anyone, my apologies.

khalistanis should know, no one will value the Sikhs like a Hindu would..

How is he Amrit dhari when he is not wearing karaa? It's one of the 5 essential thing to wear if you are a Amrit dhari Sikh. He chose to wear kirpan but neglected Kara? ?

Show me one video or story of a Sikh being violent at a school/university/educational place!? It doesn’t exist! The religion is based on protecting the unprotected and they don’t weaponize there sacred religion. Educate yourself!

I have friends who are Sikhs, no one shows up wearing that. It is a threat coz he is showing it to the public . He shouldn’t be arrested but asked to not come to campus with such stuff. He has a mental problem. Why would he do that , he did it purposely to get attention lol

There is 2 types of Sikh..... one that are baptized and live that life and then that knife would actually be part of his religion and there is a few extra things..... and then there is Sikh that are not living that life and are more peaceful and would not have a knife like that unless they ( wanted to for fun) ....... if he lives his life as the type that always has that as a Sikh this was a violation of his wright to religion and is a serious lawsuit and also wrongful detaining .....
2022-10-01 0
That’s a valid scene.\nThe one must have complained didn’t know what genuine emotions and faith the Sikh guy has. Sometimes, not all religious things can fit into some places.
2022-09-30 0
Not every Sikh carries a kripan so why he needs one . Why do Sikhs need a special provision .
2022-09-30 0
Keep your religion at home.anyway Sikhs are one of the religiously bigoted groups on earth.dont get carried away by the highly publicized free meals delivery to people by the Sikhs people.over 70 percent of the donors of those free foods distribute by the Sikhs actually comes from rich Indian Hindu businesses men.

These religious symbols are integral part of sikh religion... but they are sharp and will cut \nSo its not something you want to carry into public spaces especially in another land\nAlso us is already facing a lot violent crimes inside schools and unis.. so no point in making others uncomfortable by carrying that along.. \nHope no one takes offence!

Whe you're in a different country, the responsibility is yours to know or find out what the laws of the land are. You cannot expect a whole nation of others to suddenly become educated about your religious practices and make way for you . If they do, that great, but it's not their responsibility. Also, having a weapon on you in an environment where others don't will put them at unease and also give you the advantage over them, in case of an altercation. How do they know if you are mentally sane or not and that you will not suddenly use it on them. Most Sikhs are wonderful and very caring people and I'm even sitting with one as I write this, but it's best we keep our religious practices to ourselves and not be in anyone's face with it, especially in a country where people are not so aware of other cultures. If he had to wear it for religious purposes, its his responsibility to have informed the university( which he may have) , but also to insist that they inform everyone else and the police of it, so as to not raise any tensions.
2022-09-26 1
To all the people sayimg that university is not a ppace to carry knives , should learn about sikhism and sikh faith. This kind if arogance shows how much educated you people are and how much respect you in your hearts towards other religions or cultures! Firstly, Learn one thing that american law allows sikhs(baptised sikhs only) to wear kirpan everywhere, evem the Uk and canada have the same laws for sikhs! These things arr considered very important in sikhism , the weapons are the reason for the existence of sikhs in present times! Our religion tella us to respect weapons like food and tells us to possess the most advance weapons, not for any kind of criminal activity but for self defence, good deeds and the race of existence! And Dont forget the 2nd amendment! At last i want to ask that why all hindus are against the sikh? Are'nt hindus living in the same country as sikhs? Should'nt they be aware of sikh faith and traditions? Hindus in thia comment section are a disapointment! What can we expect from others if our own people are acting like brainwashed sophisticated freaks!

I'm Sikh .love everyone we are all one bad and good people every world corner..you find and seen easy our village our city our cuntry our world our world two type people bad and good people .
2020-11-21 0
The problem is also, even if it's just a small minority that hold backwards beliefs, how small is a small minority of 1.8 billion people? 100 million? 150 mil? 300 mil? The fact is even if the majority are peaceful, there are still WAY TOO MANY that hold violent, illiberal, misogynistic beliefs. Do ex-buddhists fear for their lives if they leave their faith? Catholics? Hindus? Sikhs? We ALL know there is only ONE religion in the 21st century where apostates are persecuted, even fearing death from their OWN families. What does that tell you???

Well said in the end brother one should not say im not muslim or sikh ect but just say its wrong to hate any one or ones religion

Is he the brother of a khalistani who became some high politician recently, and if he is attending some muslim community gathering then that definitely has to be a Pakistani gathering ! That's why he is saying if some one calls Sikh a muslim , don't respond that ur not. What a joke ! , I condemn what he said about Sikhs, A proud Sikh can never be called a muslim, if he is agreeing to it he is surely part of pak propaganda machinery. And that Canadian is rightfully asking him if he supports SHARIA , and why is he attending such a gathering? . Besides answering he just ran away from a serious question that his fellow politician was asking ?????

Our sikh brethren are not able to understand the mentality of west.\nSecondly they do not put their turban n beard in sikh style actually they resemble so close to Afghans in their display of attire n specially the flowing beard.\nIf you want to be part of another country try n be more accomodative...\nOther no one from india pushed you brothers out to unknown shores.
2019-09-05 0
You know that one of the guru(one of 10 holy person) of Sikh was killed because he defended hindus when a Islamic invader who invaded India doing forced conversion of Hindus but yet they don't hate muslims even though they killed one of their prophets that's sikhism and every dharmic(indian religion like Hinduism, buddhism, jainism) in a nut shell.
