It's time to bring your trade elsewhere and turn off the energy sales. No need to argue with a nut case who wants to annex your country.

The question that needs to be asked is what’s Trump’s moneymaking angle on imposing tariffs. Trump only does stuff where he personally can make money. Somebody or some group or entity is paying him somehow to impose tariffs on America’s main trading partner and ally. That’s the only way this makes any sense.

Leaders need to address each other with respect and avoid fighting,it ain't cool when we see these two biological brothers Canada and USA fighting in a trade war,instead of fighting they should calm down and negotiate.

Canada and USA are brothers,they need to solve this issue and avoid trade wars amongst each other.

Trudeau is doing exactly what the Canadian people need a leader to do. Weather Trudeau is leaving office or not has no bearing on his actions in the trade war. Long live the free world, with or without the USA.

Canadians are frustrated and are choosing to stop buying U.S. products, but Trudeau escalating tensions into a trade war with a partner is just escalating the issue. If the free world wants to put pressure on the US for this betrayal, trade in euros (not dollars) and avoid US products and services. There are plenty of options. The US is so exposed to China through its debt that it will need to back down from these policies or collapse economically.

Of course Trudeau is going to lie about what Trump is doing. Trump knows Canada has been a close ally since Canada and U.S. were countries but when Canada and Mexico are taking advantage of the U.S. economically speaking and called out by President Trump, they don't know what to do. Can Mexico and Canada make it without U.S. as a trading partner? Can U.S. oil producers make enough energy for all the needs of U.S. citizens and their companies? Can U.S. farmers provide enough eggs, milk, chicken, beef, grains, etc. without Canada or Mexico?

Good to see Trudeau set the tone cos Mexico needs to set the same tone and the EU should be equally harsh in its terms. Trump is starting a trade war with Allies while cozying up to Putin. Putin must be laughing watching this. How much the world has changed for Putin. Trump is doing everything Putin wants and more.

We in the EU should stand by Canada and offer whatever support is necessary, including financial grants if needed. We should also match Canada by imposing our own 25% tariffs on the same goods and services, acting as a force multiplier. Indians have used Canada like a flop house. Indians go to diploma mills and try to use it as a backdoor to stay in Canada. They take over Canadian communities and try to turn them into India - making the locals feel like foreigners in their own home. They're also involved in a lot of crime. This includes: auto theft rings, synthetic ID/credit fraud, gun and drug smuggling, and one of the largest gold heists in Canadian history at Toronto Pearson airport. Americans have stated that the top nationality entering the US illegally from Canada is Indian. The drugs they are complaining about entering the US from Canada are almost entirely brought in by Indian truck drivers (Google it and find many examples). A Fentanyl super lab in BC capable of producing over 95 million lethal doses that was busted was run by an Indian. This is now threatening trade with our main trade partner as a trade war has just started. ENOUGH ALREADY! Indians need to be sent home, and banned from entering Canada.

America needs to pull out our military protection and our troops and stop ? all trade and aid to Canada let Canada fend for them selves

Legal immigration could help the USA......Bring back some of jobs most people who live in the USA don't want to do.... increase our tax base. Lower our food prices.... Help build more houses. Factories jobs will not pay a lot for manual labor again, those days are over ... but we will still need engineers.... computer IT people.ect..If young people don't get an education or get into a trade you will be out of luck.

Canada and Mexico need to find other trade partners and have stronger relationships with other countries and start trading with each other stop relying on America for everything just because they are closer start trading with Denmark . Canada needs to simplify interprovincial trade and allow grants for hydroponic farming that will allow Canada to be self-sufficient for produce round the year

I’ve read many comments urging Canada to reduce its exposure to the us. It’s reasonable but that doesn’t happen overnight. Refineries, for example, are custom built - they can’t process all crudes. They’d cost several billion to build and at least 3-5 years; plus, you need railways and port infrastructure to ship out oil or its byproducts. This should have been started in 2017 (trump’s 1st term). In the short term, free trade zones within Canada and Mexico may alleviate some of the tariffs.

Why Canada does not deal with china and EU? They need oil and other stuff. Why no free trade woth them.

This will destroy Canada. Trump will cut off all trade, and the Canadian economy will collapse. There is nothing the USA needs from Canada.Add that with cutting off aid, Canada will fall into a deep depression... So as a American ,this makes me very happy

I am an Indian in America and Indians need to develop India ??, 1) Ending the Caste System 2) Industrializing the country such as Manufacturing, Logistics and energy India has a lot of Natural Resources such as coal and Iron 3)Establish trading Partners with US, Germany and UK, Brazil. They are very strong and smart countries with a lot of great companies that could be advantageous. 4) India needs to be more capitalistic to avoid a brain drain. 5) Indians need to eat more meat and work out more, you look at the Brazilians and Nigerians they are great MMA fighters. The Andrew Tate model is important.

We need to walk away from the USA. Canada needs to build a Canadian vehicle line rather than anything from the USA. We need our own micro chip factory. We need to partner directly with other trading partners, even if it’s at a cost

Dont blame Trump for all this. Blame President Lincoln, Wilson, Taft for creating taxes. Roosevelt for enacting a bill into law for charging taxes to the American people for social security, Reagan for shutting down factories in US & leaving US to foreign Countries for cheaper cost. Bush, Obama, Biden for bad foreign trading policies & bad spending usage, budgeting of our tax payers money that put US in dept by the trillions. These past Presidents were running our Country into the ground at our expense. President Trump is getting back our Country out of Debt. Alot of reforms needs to happen. Decrease taxes on everything, make startup business easy to survive & sustain. Enact bills into laws to control all Corporations from overpricing their goods to consumers. Lower all consumer goods. Give tax breaks to all business. Taxes should come from other Countries & zero from the American peoples pockets, end to taxing the American people. ✊️

Canada needs to get all new trading partners, they need to look to Europe, Asia, and other countries. There are other markets out there, especially in the EU, where they are no longer getting energy from Russia. If Canada shows any weakness Trump will hit Canada even harder, the only why Canada stays strong and comes out ahead, is to be strong. Canada will suffer for a while, but with new trade partners, Canada will be much better off.

Good, now we need to stop sending every country foriegn aid. We hired President Donald Trump to do these things. This will hurt Mexico and Canada far more than it will the United States. It is very hypocritical for other country's that already have tariffs on American made products to say that it is wrong for the United States to tariff their products. We do not care that it will crush your economies because we are done with propping up your economy at the expense of American workers and jobs. It is absolutely amazing that fair trading has practices are scaring your country's.

F that. Canadians don’t need to retaliate. Mr Cheeto is a crooked old schoolyard bully and I for one don’t want to play his game. We need to do what’s best for Canadians - find other trading partners, develop manufacturing within our borders, etc. and above all be smart. \nSomeone will benefit from trade wars and it’s not going to be regular Americans or Canadians. This is just another way to squeeze the life out of regular citizens while the rich get richer.

What any country with sense needs to do now is get a trade delegation together and visit these countries as there is now an opportunity for everyone to shift trade to a more reliable partner. It happened with Putin. Any country who can use trade suddenly as a punishment is not reliable. It is imperative for survival.

He's got a generator,.. & Canada might decide to cut off all electrical power to the mid-west, New England & NY, a couple seconds after the opening kick off in N.O.! For the vast majority of Americans, including Trump who don't know this: \n- 90% of all aluminum used in the USA comes from Canada. \n- 80% of the potash used to grow food on US farms comes from Canada. \n- Steel is made in Canada. - Uranium is exported from Canada. \n- Minerals needed for electronics are exported from Canada. The only alternatives are China and Russia. \n- 60% of all imported oil in the US comes from Canada. \n- Electricity produced in Canada is delivered to the states of New York, Vermont, Maine and over 20 other US states. We’ll soon find out if convicted felon Trump and his supporters need Canada when that electricity gets turned off. If Trump can rip our mutually-negotiated agreements so can Canada. We did not ask for this economic war nor did we start it. Trump did. \n \nIt's also time to super-tax every pound of US coal being exported through Roberts Bank Super-port in Delta, British Columbia, Canada. The American coal exported through Roberts Bank does not even pay a provincial carbon tax like all BC residents pay. Canadians are about to show Trump what happens when you consistently lie and stab your best customer and neighbour in the back. We are not afraid of Trump. Canada is the second-largest country in the world by land area and we have the longest coastline in the world, with over 243,000 kilometers of shoreline. We will continue expanding our trade with Pacific Rim countries, Europe, Mexico and beyond. They all need and want our lumber, minerals, oil and gas, grass fed beef, and the dependable, respectful trading partner that we are.

We need to realign with the right allies and expand our trade with them. This is a great opportunity to break free from being merely a follower of America. We are prepared to endure hardships for the sake of liberating our economy from American imperialism.

Canadian here while I support what the PM is doing, I don’t think a tit for tat solution is enough. Canada needs to look for other trading partners like China. Let’s have a free trade agreement with them and rip up USMCA. That’ll fix the trade deficit overnight. Similar thing for military we can save the Pentagon billions by leaving NORAD and NATO and building a strategic joint defence agreement with China.

Canadian here. The tariffs will hurt. And this may just be the beginning of a sprawling trade war, but make no mistake, Canada is not for sale, and Canada, despite its soft spoken nature, is determined to keep going on its own way. We have free trade with the EU and Pacific nations. For any US companies who find themselves caught up in tariffs for their export markets, consider setting up your export shop here, to keep your Canadian customers, and continue to have access to European and Asian markets under free trade agreements that are respected, and operate independently of any decision made by President Trump. Businesses need predictability and stability, and your neighbors to the north can provide that to all of your export markets.
