Decades of racists immigration policies, and foreign policies are directly responsible for this. We are failing to properly process these peoples legal requests for asylum, because the immigration department has been defunded and chronically understaffed on purpose.\n\nAccording to both US and international law, we have a legal obligation to accept, process and grant asylum requests as quickly as possible. Unfortunately we are not honoring this important legal obligation, and have chosen instead to put barrier after barrier in place, and leave these poor people to languish for months, and years in an unsafe country. \n\nWe have failed these people, and we have broken both US an international law, making these people, who have already endured unspeakable horrors, suffer needlessly, because the religious right are hateful, selfish, racist hypocrites, who have forgotten where their families have come from, and have dishonored the very principals that this country was founded upon. I wonder if the reason so many in so many places believe that medical care is a problem is actually a matter of expectations. I know that in the 90s, my little town in Kansas had as many imaging machines as the entire country of Canada, but Canadians were certain they had superior medical care, as did the English. Expectations.\nEven then, if something was so bad that only a silver bullet treatment would possibly help, they still send patients to the USA because they are not equipped to help. Quiet management.\nBut basic medical, especially if you don't have much money, was traditionally better in England. I don't think Canadians had choices, but the functional reality was similarly better than in the States. Expectations.\nFor some time, Americans have had a sense that miracles are practical things that happen all the time, just pull out all the stops to keep grandma in agony another week. This has been reinforced by the civil courts. It is dangerous to be a doctor who does not recommend EVERYTHING be done to prolong life, even miserable life. Insane expectations that waste a lot of money. \nBut basic medical? Just shut up and go to work. Expectations.\nA century ago, there were no significant differences in expectations amongst developed countries because the expectations, based on the technologies of the day, were the same. Plus, there was only so much that could be done, so the total costs of everything were predictable and could be paid for publicly or privately less angst or disappointment. Expectations.\nWhen the technologies change like they have been in medicine in this century, it's good guess that so do expectations. It's also a good bet that there is a mismatch between expectations and available resources. Broken system.

This is actually just capitalism. The more monopolies, the greater the income inequality, and the more broken your country becomes.\n\nWhen mentioning the housing crisis, it's important to remember that it goes along with a massive homelessness problem. And a very large percentage of the homeless population are people with untreated mental health disorders, because there's no effective mental healthcare in Canada and it's almost impossible to get disability for a mental health disorder.\n\nMany people don't have health insurance, and if you don't have health insurance, you can't afford medication, which is incredibly expensive. Which means your disability increases. It's extremely hard to get a family doctor (I was on a waiting list for 3 years before I finally got a call, and I've been trying to get an appointment with a specialist for over a year now). The hospitals are telling people to stay away unless your situation is dire. The food banks are turning people away because they're running out of food.\n\nAs far as I can tell, the government no longer cares about anyone who isn't wealthy.

There is NO other country I would ever choose to live in. Born and bred here in Canada. Things are broken everywhere. Still believe my country is a wonderful place to live a beautiful, mostly peaceful, non gun hungry population, life. No place is perfect. But we seem to have laws that respect ALL people that are legally here. There is ALWAYS room for improvement. No gonna lie. Again. I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

Their hiring system is broken with 99% referral, long and never open job applications, pairing with unrealistic expectations for entry levels, plus they don’t like to train, cannot even get an admin job in a better wage with a BA degree. Many even locals are unemployed with gaps over 7 months, also they cannot switch jobs freely… Once thought I can leverage my skills for the country and together create a better community for everyone, but I’m wrong, everyone is struggling, sinking, and I think I can’t survive here as the rent is really eating me up. Glad I haven’t go for immigration to CA, and I will go back to my home country for my career path, batter pay and at least I can survive…

Our government looks after immigrants BETTER than its own CITIZENS! ????\nFor ex. ppl who have been homeless for yrs R sleeping on the street, in tents, parks, cars etc. They receive NO help! \nYET IMMIGRANTS R getting into shelters! Like WTF?!! ? Some arrived here (in summer) with NO housing (which is ASS BACKWARDS ~ Y R U bringing ppl here when there R NO places for US to live let alone immigrants??!!) & they were sleeping in the streets/parks. Our Govt moved mountains to find THEM shelters in relatively record time but have done NOTHING to help CANADIANS who R ALREADY homeless (A LOT of them R homeless bc of cost of housing & NOT ALCOHOL/DRUG ABUSE!) Most ppl assume it’s bc of drug addiction. It’s NOT! \nU can be employed making a ‘relatively’ decent wage & yet U R 1 step away from being homeless ESP NOW & esp with greedy landlords!!!) \n\nSince WHEN did it become acceptable to neglect the countries REAL CITIZENS & focus solely on Immigrants? ?? \nThis is just ONE example. Wow! I’m Canadian born and just came across this. 100%. Totally agree. Great review. Things are definitely broken here, slowly deteriorating for the past 20 years, but especially escalated since Trudeau in 2015, and the BS and lies and propaganda since the start of COVID. This country is deteriorating as a direct consequence of our fascist government and broken institutions. Don’t know where this goes, but we are definitely a nation in decline, and the takeover of government by corporate interests and corrupt politics is the reason why. We do not live in a democracy. Don’t let anybody tell you we do. Everything is a lie, and people are figuring it out and no longer wish to participate in a society that has become hostile towards the middle class. The entire system is a pyramid scheme, and the Jenga blocks are crumbling.

Our banks offshore our high tech jobs, broken windows and protests in our cities on issues from their homeland, our educated children leave the country for a better life, drugs, guns and homelessness on our streets. How stupid are Canadians to continue filling this Trojan horse? You can't blame it all on the politicians, your average Canadian wants to feel their government will take care of them, like a parent from cradle to grave. Pretty stupid.

I love Canada and I love the fact its mixing so many cultures in together, but we just can't keep up at the current pace. Another thing lots of people have an issue with is the lack of diversity in the immigrants. Our services and lifestyles are being strained to the point where people are getting sick of it, put a cap on each country and only allow that cap to be broken for asylum seekers/refugees. This isn't a cultural/race issue either and people who say this shouldn't be called racist, I mean its honestly insane to call it racist when the very immigrants you bring in are making the same points.

Bringing talent from around the world is NOT the root cause of the housing crisis. \n\nOther variables such as increased taxes, lack of policy around banking rules, lack of goverment grants/funding for businesses (coming out of COVID or even startup companies) etc etc are attributing to the housing crisis.\n\nWorking with others from around the world coming into this country has actually been a blessing in that it fosters healthy competition within the workplace and society.\n\nLocal born citizens do not all know the meaning and value of work ethics. \n\nWhat a joke and ignorant statement that immigrants are causing housing crisis and strain on health care system.\n\nThe system of Healthcare is broken. When I bought my house years ago, I took out a 20 year mortgage and at the end of that 20 years I owned my home, my kids will have to take out a 100 year mortgage and long after they are dead THEIR children will be paying for it. \nWe are taxed on EVERYTHING ! I arrived in 2006, I had travelled the world and Canada was my favourite. Drugs and crime amplified by idiotic ideology have broken this place. I used to love this country. The health care system is now the same as government hospitals in Africa, just newer buildings. Now I'm established, have 3 children in school and my wife and I are still seriously considering our options.

For whose don't know Pakistan is part of India back in the day and when a mother sees her two children fighting, she can't choose a side or be bias as a result she will broken into pieces just like Pakistan and India. Imagine if Pakistan was not seperated and both relegions are respected, India will be a great good example to other countries

Canada is completely falling apart. It's not surprising so many people are leaving including naturally born citizens. We have insane shelter costs, a healthcare system that is beyond broken, low wages, high taxes, rising crime rates everywhere. There is no future for anyone under the age of 30 at all in this country. Canada will be a third world country at the current rate by 2035.

When immigrants see the same crap (generational hate) they came to Canada to leave behind then add all the other items listed in the comments, Canada has become a sh$t hole country unless you come from money or have a cushy government job with all benefits and pension. Canada bends over backwards to welcome immigrants compared to many countries- what this report fails to mention is how many immigrants simply use Canada to get citizenship and then move back to their native countries with dual citizenship that gives them and their families medical care, and a free ride back here when their own unstable countries become dangerous, or those that use Canada as a temporary safe and generous harbour before moving on. Very handy. I believe our immigration system is broken - all our Canadian governments want are more and more warm bodies to feed an insatiable tax monster, without regard to the significant social and economic disruption poorly planned immigration causes. Our Health Care system is broken. We have very bad doctors and insane wait times. Our Health Care is tax funded and it's impossible to sue the hospital if they misdiagnose or mistreat an illness. When you pay for your doctor you will get the best care. Not up here though. One thing per visit and you must see a medical clinic first, if you can get an appointment. My last 2 visits were 14h wait times, and that's at the biggest hospital in BC. \n\nWe don't have free speech. We heavily tax our poorest people. Our gas is over $2 a liter. Food is very expensive especially at fast food places and restaurants. \n\nOur internet is third world at best but with some of the highest data costs in the world. \n\nWe have a run on our borders and our infrastructure is bursting at the seams. We put the needs of other countries before our own. Could be a good thing but not when helping the world is making it harder and harder for those born here to actually live and thrive here.

How can you know how crap your country actually is unless you can compare it to other western countries. America is clearly broken and dysfunctional but how keep getting told it's the best and you lot believe the crap (propaganda).

My wife works with immigrants to help them deal with various problems adapting, finding housing, cars, translating,etc. Over time we’ve become friends with the community. The Venezuelans have stood out as very fine potential citizens. Their plight is especially dire. Most were skilled professionals driven from their country by massive inflation, and they lost everything they had as a result. Homes, cars, savings. You can’t rebuild a country when all the government is broken and you can’t feed your family. They will make fine citizens.

I came to Canada as a Bachelor Mechanical Engineer, I have been here in Canada for 22 years. This is not Canada that I came for, under any circumstances I will not raise my kids in this corrupted and toxic environment combined with dangerous life in Toronto. I’m in the process of moving to a different country and I will never come back. The time to fix the damage caused by the liberals will take years and years. There is a twist happened in the culture and will get fixed. The mental health system is broken! My advise leave Canada before one day you will need a medical help. Because you may die here due to the last of medical care! Too bad !

This is so very sad...while i dont believe in illegal immigration for the most part..I do believe WE ALL want bettwr for ourselves and our kids.. These people want the same.. It's not their fault they were born in another place.. The system is broken by greedy men.. There has to be a better way.. But we shouldn't have such hard hearts.. Telling the truth.. This is dangerous in Canada. Canada is broken.\n\nI left Canada nearly 25 years ago. No regrets. There are more welcoming places. Safer places. Places with better weather. Canada is a country that finds intelligence and skills threatening in the workplace. They don't want people to outshine them. On discrimination, even Canadians trained abroad are considered inadequate, as if they had never worked before. The country is broken and getting even more broken, that even Canadians that have means are leaving and want to leave.

Until you experience the horrors they have gone through don’t throw stones in glass houses the immigration system has been broken for years if people waited until it’s their time no one would realistically get through since there is a 20 year backlog and children who were brought here 20 years ago have been thrown out because they themselves were still not approved a decade or more later. Part of the issue is red state lax gun laws allowing cartels easy access to heavy machinery that can be taken back across the border. Do you really think corruption isn’t running all the way to the top and that the American government has not helped worsen the issues when any of these countries want control of their own fossil fuel. Consider how many rich people get to jump in line or border patrol on both sides being able to keep out legal crossings if you can’t pay their fees. If you fight the cartel military or government you will find yourself dead imprisoned and or tortured and if they are fleeing to save their family and willing to leave their whole life behind to go to a country whose language they don’t speak do you really think they can walk all the way to the border wait in a single file line hope they can request asylum and then wait 40 years to maybe get a call back for a hearing these ppl are forced into a rock and a hard place and for the majority of American politics most politicians have no interest on really figuring out a comprehensive and compassionate system to help get immigrants out of dangerous situations America barely cares about it’s homeless citizens veterans mentally or physically Ill every country is having serious issues because often leaders are really only looking out for themselves

I would argue the Canadian immigration dosent work because the country is broken. Over 1M people landed in Canada. Half residents and the other half is students. I’d recommend searching Canadian sites the immigration problem might actually be the first time Canadians vote in a specifically a policy to reduce immigration across the board until The housing is fixed.

Broken system? I wish Canada followed the American system, instead our country is collapsing and homes are out of reach for young Canadians for at least the next decade (assuming things start changing for the better)

Great documentary, but in my opinion, it's terribly one-sided, portraying these colleges as villains and the students as poor, innocent victims. As a former international student from India myself, who had the privilege of attending a prestigious university in the UK, working there, and moving on, the workings of this situation are as clear as daylight and as old as the hills. \nIt wasn't any different back then in the UK 20 years ago, during the heady Blair days, when UK colleges significantly increased their intake of international students, aided by a lax visa regime. This was also in response to tighter visa restrictions in the US following 9/11. Students enrolling in such colleges, as well as the parents funding them, are well aware that these are degree mills. The sole aim here is to somehow navigate through college and stay long enough until permanent residency comes through. \nTears flow and protests erupt only when this unspoken but clearly understood agreement is broken, often with the media conveniently at hand. The reasons driving this insatiable urge are multifarious, but poverty and lack of opportunities in the country (in this case, India) do not really rank high on the list. Social prestige and an imagined better life in the 'West' certainly do, particularly among young people from states like Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Gujarat. \nNothing about this is illegal, and not to sound cynical, these are market forces at work. However, in my view, this represents a more accurate truth. It would be great to see Fifth Estate also report from this side

This may be accurate from presentation part, but see the actual reality, if canada is that much attractive for skilled immigrants, it should be world leader in technology or manufacturing but it is not as life is very harsh here. For most professional except IT your education is not valid or you have to go through very length process of validating your education and getting in main stream to get the job some time it takes years of continuous job like effort. Salary structure is garbage compared to USA. It is impossible to find an affordable house or apartment which you can rent, forget about buying.. Tax system is upto moon. Healthcare is broken and on top of that Black money is dumped from all over the world in real estate. Canada is a broken country and it heavily relying on international students and wealth immigrants to run their country. You are welcome here if you have shit load of money otherwise think 100 times before you come to this country.

It's not broken. It's good that they don't take in such a huge amount of immigrants to burden their country. We've fallen into the trap of the Canadian government and decided to come to realize that there's not many good job opportunities for us either. Some of my​ Canadian friends wanna go to the US. Why would you wanna come to Canada?

As a Canadian i can 100% assure you that our immigration system is broken. The reason for the ridiculous housing prices and low incomes is due to a surplus of labour. Because of how many Indians are coming to Canada, my country has become unlivable. Im in the process of moving south. I and most of my friends and family simply can't afford to live here anymore. Its a shame the place my family has lived for generations has been ruined to such an extent

I can't help but wonder if Canada was a more attractive place to immigrate to, if they'd be forced to make it more difficult. Essentially the US is hard because it's more desirable, and Canada is easy because it's less desirable. Additionally, the fact that Canada has an easier time giving people work visas/permeant residence, I wonder if that's what drives their tech wages down so much. They don't seem to have the same requirement as the US, that a foreign-born worker be paid the same as a locally born one? The fact that it's a flat number from each country, and not based on population or applicants, is really broken imo.

I resent that characterization that the per-country cap is “discriminatory.” Yes, this system is broken, and it is stupid that we educate a foreigner and then lose their talent or force them to stay without a legal status. But the purpose of the system is to promote diversity. Norway and India have the same number of green cards available to their respective nationals because the U.S. wants all countries equally represented.

Is Toronto the only city in Canada. Toronto is full beyond capacity. I have been waiting for a call for RGI for more than 13 years and never recieved even one call for a place. So many people are coming to Toronto fleeing whatever they are fleeing, getting housing, and help while i and my children continue to pay for it and live like we are in a third world country because we have to decide if we pay the rent or eat healthy. Dollarama is my frigging grocery store, all the while my taxes pay for people who never payed taxes here. Our country is so ridiculously broken.

People who are still proud of being Canadian have blinders on. I used to be proud of being Canadian but this country is completely broken and living amongst people that are actively voting to strip me of my rights is painful.

Love to visit the States. Met some wonderful Americans but a country that prioritizes guns over their children is fundamentally broken. If children were being killed mass execution style here and the politicians weren't doing anything but shrug their shoulders I think Canadians would dismantle the Government.
