TLDR; I am an person from a wartorn, oppressive country, and I unfortunately do not have many options to choose from other than Canada to have a chance for a better life.\n\nLet me tell you from the perspective of a person whose dream is to come to Canada: I know all this already, I know things are going terribly and the cost of living has gone up significantly. I am more western, and open minded, and my original country is a strict Islamic country. I do not fit there at all.\n\nI know Canada has all these problems, but its my only choice for a better future, I dont want to go to US because I dont wanna die, also, EU wont accept me unless I am from EU myself or speak their language which is a catch 22. Australia is also becoming a shithole. That leaves Canada and NZ. NZ doesnt have that good of job prospects and limited scope and I love Canada, always have. The weather and everything that comes with it.\n\nYes its not perfect, but I think its more about knowing that I can go back to a place, that is not dangerous for me and my future family, where I will get good care if I am stable job wise. Once I am in Canada, I will probably buy my own land and use that to have a trailer home there since they are still cheap, save my money, and probably retire in Philippines. \n\nI dont believe everyone else should do that and yes I know trailer's costs depreciates with time, unlike a house, but I dont care about that. I dont think of houses as investment and I never will nor I will participate in that practice. Everyone has a right for home.

Canadians do not want this, the Liberals have tapped out the middle class and now they need to keep importing millionaires and low skill workers in order to fleece more tax dollars from more warm bodies. The oligarchs are juicing the system and profiting on their investments. Canadians are unable to compete with imported money and standards of living. This is of no benefit to average Canadians. Ideaologies and climate change are being used as a smoke screen to shame those who oppose this many immigrants or being over taxed, its a form of narcissistic abuse on the population. Programs end and change often. \n\nIn Canada definitely bargain and shop around for good phone plans. one idea is to get a pay as you go until “Black Friday” then every year or two when your good offer expires there will be many others. It’s the time with the best deals saving almost half. For instance, I have 50 gigs for $25 for two years from a large provider. Telephone companies are the one place where people must bargain and even ask for better deals as a must.\n\nThe people you see living in big houses, will have kids that can’t afford the same. This is because prices keep rising. The system protects the very rich, but will also drain the middle class often within 1-2 generations. Do not link your business to your personal finance, or creditors can take your home. Some not knowing this lose everything and rich people know better. \n\nPeople live until they are very old, so inheritance is pretty much meaningless to rely on, so no matter what your parents have you must hustle in life. \n\nI do think Canada can become what we want over time. Citizens need to fight the trend of great community spaces, restaurants and bars going out of business and dumb corporations move in with bad boring restaurants. Like a McDonald’s where maybe a popular cultural hang out was. \n\nPart of the problem is a lack of mixed income housing areas, so it’s hard to stay living where you grew up. Artists and musicians help make a city great, but many cannot afford to live here.\n\nFamilies and communities staying together means more support for those with young kids and older relatives when they need help. Yet how is this possible in a city that is always pushing out lower income people when wealthier people desire the area. \n\nIn Toronto, every time you move you have to take what is available and that might mean moving an hour away from everyone you know. This weakens communities. Plus, if you live too far from your work you will have no time to socialize for most the week due to travel time. \n\nI think those who grew up in Toronto do have a certain culture of acceptance with others from many cultures, because your friends at school were from all over. But with new migrants sometimes it isn’t until the second generation that their social circles get diverse. This can be isolating and it’s even isolating as those from Toronto eventually leave dreaming of staying in one spot and not forced to move constantly when a landlord investor sells every house you move into. \n\n\nToronto really needs to protect affordability of housing for at least some housing in every section so that people can save money if they live in the city, and not have to leave their communities and be far from their friends and family. \n\notherwise eventually people get sick of the hustle and it’s too tiring to travel 1+ hrs each way to visit someone during Monday to Friday. \n\n20 years ago any professional could at least buy a condo. Not today. There is too much competition now and investors are allowed to buy up all the most affordable housing that once was a pathway to owning a home. \n\nRich policy makers got greedy and destroyed canada and hopefully diversity in leadership will help make Canada better. But they perhaps people knew to Canada can reject this lonely structure and help us rebuild Toronto into an amazing place. \n\nWe need to make sure everyone can afford housing with 30% of their income. A country will progress if they bring in lot of investment, bring in quality educated immigrants, they bring in refugees and below quality students waste the money just vote bank politics. I am an international student, just wanted to ask Canadian people, why target international students, i am from India, i can guarantee that any Indian student coming to Canada brings at least 100k investment that directly gets used by the Canadian economy. My problem is why target us rather you guys should look for people who are coming to this country like refuse and use candian tax payer money and get all the benefits Canada offers, but us on the other hand we pay taxes like normal citizen. The real problem is Canadian and Provincial governments obsession with taxation rather than investment. All governments all have a spending problem too. \n\nTax our income, tax our after tax dollar that we buy stuff with, tax the stuff we transport goods with, tax the land we live on with after tax dollars, oh yea and let’s tax the money the government rebates us cause that makes sense.

I'm an immigrant and my immigrant friends and I were talking about exactly this just the other day. I'd like to add some context on why so few international students stay: they can't. Schools prey on this very fact. In international recruiting, these schools use the promise of thriving local industries and trot out graduates working locally as major draws to these expensive programs. Then once students are in Canada, many of these schools couldn't care less: they offer little or sometimes no housing support, no immigration advice (or in my case and many of my friends' cases: they give straight-up false immigration advice that can screw you over or even get you in trouble). There absolutely needs to be regulation and accountability for these predatory schools; I think a good starting point would be capping the number of visas they can apply for based on the number of housing units available (either on-campus or via local development subsidy and homestays). Tons of students come to Canada completely unprepared due to false promises made by these schools, and then get spit out into an egregiously inefficient and broken work visa system.\nMy immigrant friends and I are all highly skilled in our specific field. There are only a handful of people in the world (let alone in Canada) who can do what I do at the level I do it, so I would be incredibly difficult to replace if I left Canada. Despite that, and despite being Canadian-educated (Canadian resources invested in me that you'd want to keep in Canada), remaining in Canada has been a massive struggle for me and my friends. We individually spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year to apply for permits that have to be renewed annually, but take the government 6+ months to process. Because the government is so backed up, we have to apply for *extra* permits to bridge that gap (more money, and more work added to IRCC's already-long line of applications). I'm in limbo for the majority of the year where I can't switch employers, can't leave the country, etc. It's horrible. \nBut I have it better than most. Of the international students in my year, only I and one other student are still in Canada because the transition to work permits is so needlessly long and difficult. Even a graduate who does manage to get a work permit might have to sit unemployed for 6 months or more before that permit is active. How is a student supposed to survive without work for that long? In order for employers to even apply to sponsor a graduate, they often have to do a lengthy labor market impact assessment, and so these graduates are stuck in a holding pattern, and they're the lucky ones. Immigration is absolutely vital to Canada and I hate how quickly these stories turn to xenophobic rhetoric, but we have to make space in the conversation to take a look at how schools are exploiting students and policy loopholes, and why they're doing it, and address those problems. The current system isn't fair to anyone.

Since trudeau, this country has gone downhill. It's what happens when half the people who live here aren't even from this country. We send money away instead of investing in our own country. We import indian slaves instead of creating our own families. We're headed to the third world baby, lets gooo!!!

It's all about the money. The schools kinda need them for that reason alone cause the locals just cannot make these schools economically feasible. From the POV of those students, they are taking a chance of getting a PR hopefully. As visas for studying is easier to obtain vs say other forms of visa like investment or to have a local company sponsor you for work...

High cost of living is a for sure sign that they don't want so many immigrants living off of the system.\nPeople should start considering fixing there own family situations in there home countries.\nCanada has already proven to be a good country for immigrants but it's not that go to hub for immigrants to exploit.\nThe work has been done.\nCOVID was scary when I was there. I whole city shut down it looked like a ghost town. If I am not an oldie, I would leave canada as well. This country is not what it is used to be. Also, I think the opportunity is very limited here as jobs wise or for invested in business wise. This country is only good for oldies with money to move in . Cause at least the air is fresh, the living pace is slow, so you can walk a lot slower. As for young one, the opportunity is very limited. If I had won a big lotto , I probably would leave right away even at my age.

I immigrted in 2016 and went back to my country in 2022 after collecting my citizenship, and staying a total of 5.5 years.\n\n In terms of money, i brought $15k as settlement funds. Saved in excess of $65k from salary i earned after paying taxes and got $16k in tax returns. From these savings i helped my sibling in paying his NDBE exam fee, paid hospital bill when my mom was diagnosed with covid in 2020 (she fully recoered and is in excellent health now) for myself i bought books, computers and other electronic gadgets of my choice, After returning back i made an investment of $20k and bought a plot of land for $25k measuring 240 sq yards and still left with nearly $12k.\n\nIt would need another $50k to built a double story house on it with all the luxurious ( which i will save in my next tour) . To me the best place on earth is where you can live a happy and comfortable life.

Idk how everyone seems to be confused why we have so much homelessness. Israels national investment firm called black rock has been buying up American housing for years. They were very outspoken about their plans to buy everything, and hold onto it indefinitely while renting it out for very high rates. Every politician has bought 50 or more homes to do this with as well. Tucker carlson has a load of them, as well as every other tv personality. People from other countries stay 10 people per home, and collectively can afford much higher rates than americans living 1 family to a home, again driving rates ever higher. Government is soley responsible for the dollar becoming worthless so quickly. Wages will never keep up. The government makes more money by cramming as many people as possible into the country, directly at the expense of quality of life for the citizens. Nobody is protecting the interests of American citizens. We are all getting robbed blind by predators while we all appear to be blind deaf and dumb. Nothing happening is an accident. Every loser creates a winner somewhere.

Okay, but can someone give me an actual reason on why they have a right to the land? Other than they were there first? They cannot defend the land, they don’t make money with the land, they don’t invent or invest anything into that land. Why should you hold onto it? Squatters rights?

As someone from the US, here’s what I will say- you can find a small community or a community within a large city that will fit your needs if you look hard enough. HOWEVER, outside of that community, our larger government will never be the right fit for you, for the same reason you’ve “outgrown”Canada. “We” rarely invest in our own country and citizens, and always have “our” hands and money in other country’s affairs where they don’t belong and aren’t welcome. The government is unbelievably corrupt, out of touch, and is more focused on getting one side to hate the other side than actually making “no-brainer” steps that we all agree on to make things better for everyone. If you’re looking for a place to land for a little while I’d say a place with a Muslim community is fine, but long term your money won’t be going to places that aligns with your morals and values.

The quality of life in the Philippines, no matter how poor we are, could not be compensated by whatever promise there is in Canada. Overall, the Philippines nonetheless has plenty of beauty, comfort, satisfaction, and happiness for those who are hard-working and socially adept to keep their relationships warm with friends and relatives. While there is so much money in Canada, its growing ugly side, which expatriate Filipinos themselves could attest to, is becoming more and more irritating. It is better to invest one's talent in one's native land here and just visit Canada as a dignified tourist than as an unenthusiastic citizen in that country.

Salam! Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether or not to invest in the Canadian market for someone who is contemplating leaving Canada in the medium term? I don't know if it is worth investing money in stocks via Canadian institutions if that money might be withdrawn in less than 10 years from now as I move to another country.

I would encourage Canadians to get involved more in politics and demand changes to the system. Housing is high in Canada due to lack of building permits and blue collar laborers. Canada accepted a high rate of white collar skill immigrants but lack job opportunities for them. Vancouver economy is tourism dependent while Alberta is energy base and Toronto financial base. Healthcare is available for every Canadian but salaries are low in the industry compared to US. The government should encourage companies to invest in Canada and create jobs for the economy. Since the tax rate in Canada is higher compared to the US, citizens should ask themselves if the money is going to good use and generating jobs in the economy.

I have to disagree with some of the things mentioned in the video. 1. My home in Hong ‘Kong @ 500 sq feet costs the same as a townhouse in Stouffville Ont. that’s probably 1;500;sq ft not including basement; garage & front lawn. How’s that world’s worst housing crisis. There is almost a communist market in Canada, all supermarkets, mobile phone companies, and internet companies, airline companies are in the hands of a few privileged families. There is limited competition and often they decide the price of anything without any competition. Result: a flight within Canada is more expensive than a flight from Canada to Spain. Everything is 3 times more expensive and people suffer. They sell an empty jar of Nutella as the Canadian dream. In the end, Canada will end up with people who have no other choice but to live in Canada and have limited potential to propel the country's innovation which is sad. It's inevitable! and It's too late already!

The other areas that experience the housing Price shocks are places also where foreign students tend to flock to, especially those from Asian nations like China.\n\nCanada’s BC Vancouver, Edmonton, Manitoba, and Calgary tend to cater to willing Indian, Pakistani, Central Asian, Hong Kong Chinese, Singapore, Japanese, Malaysian, and Taiwanese parents willing to spend big money to educate their kids in Canadian English language programs that the Canadian governments organized with educators. \n\nSpending well over five figures a year in order to educate these young kids to grasp English and eventually have a pathway to citizenship like South Africa’s Elon Musk. The CCP was Party to these programs till Xi’s second term of rule and the huge budget deficits occurring due to the transference of Chinese domestic spending happening overseas especially in Canada and Australia caused the CCP to stop this growing deficit in household spending within the Chinese domestic economy. They couldn’t allow these newly minted millionaires to raise their kids like elite CCP party members families and friends. \n\nThey tried to stop it, but the Canadian taxpayers raised complaints about soaring property, and income taxes to their politicians and it’s slowed this process down but loopholes still exist and it is still occurring. \n\nThe top party leaders of China sending their kids to expensive European and USA institutions such as Xi’s children especially his Harvard / Oxford educated daughter, whose fiancée is a British citizen involved in all trades, China’s evolving EV industries! Move on over Elon, a new competitors in town due to some big connections within the CCP party.\n\nCanada housing is overinflated for the next several decades.

What has happened in Canada is actually quite simple. Companies sell products and services. Companies require employees in order to sell those products and services. The difference between what the companies can those products and services for and what they pay the employees is profit. The owners of the companies want to maximize this profit, therefore want to pay employees as little as possible. Scarcity is labour is one of the driving factors behind what employees are paid. One way to decrease scarcity of labour is to bring in massive amounts of immigrants. That is exactly what Canada has been doing for decades. The owners of the companies take profits and invest it in real estate. This makes real estate unaffordable for the employees whose wages have been suppressed. Lower wages also means less money from taxes available for services like health care. We allowed our politicians to be bribed into allowing massive levels of immigration. Stagnant wage growth resulted in lowered consumptive capacity in the economy. This lead to stagnant economic activity and lowered investment into things that would make the Canadian economy more productive. What we have now is unaffordable housing. Lack of jobs. A failing health care system. An educational system where the bar was lowered to accommodate the lowest common denominator. Increased crime and substance abuse resulting from the subsequent hopelessness. Several families living in a single house. People working several low paying jobs just to try to get by. People with full-time jobs that are forced to choose between being homeless or starving to death. The immigrants that are still coming here are sleeping on the sidewalk in front of homeless shelters, or maybe scraping by delivering UberEats.

Stop immigration now Canada needs to work on sovereignty back. Immigration not the same as when my parents came here so different from today. To much people are here to invest with there retirement money and school not helping or becoming Canadian money money. So much big big homes everywhere that will be unaffordable now or in ten years. All leaders around the world fix your country’s before there’s no where to move. Stop the legal renting in Canada 10 people to a home no even family \n.call centre home must stop.

The poll suggests Canadians are extremely propagandized because immigration is not negatively causing housing crisis. You know why? Because there are entire buidings sitting empty, blocks of buildings in gentrified cities that could easily be converted into residential homes. The polititians blame immigrants to cover for their criminal back door deals and insider trading etc etc. They rather invest in a high end expensive codo that they will get a kick back for than invest money in convetting existing areas into housing. Don't und why indians are so crazy about moving to Canada. Stop watching bullywood movies who glamourises western countries. There are no work opportunities there. Bad weather...extreme cold, severe depression. Zero socializing, crazy inflation. It’s been 5 years for me here and I honestly can say I have achieved nothing in my life yet. It scares me when I think I can’t return whatever my parents had invested in me. The fact is you’ll never have a good paying job in Canada being an immigrant. When I say this trust me I mean it. Most you’ll get is a minimum wage job which can make you survive the life here. People need to stop believing in this fake illusion and come only if they got a purpose here. I love Canada. But i left it for tanzania, Africa. I left with 250k CAD and thats all i had. Now i own 3 luxury houses, 8 rental units, 100 acres of farmland with 2 semi-trucks, and I'm making quite alot of money from these investments. Im also planin to buy a beach property in Zanzibar, which is off the coast of tanzania. So we don't have the financial resources to support them, we have no housing for them and likely won't for the next 100 years based on our current building rate and we don't have jobs that pay enough to afford the exorbitant rents. So it's better for everyone if they go somewhere else where they can live peacefully. We have made Canada an immigration unfriendly country and conservative governments continue to make sure that that stance is maintained by not building affordable housing or investing in supports for citizens and only giving money to close political corporate allies. Most Canadians don't want immigrants here at all if they don't have jobs and can't afford to live without burdening the social system.

it is time for politicians to think about investing in CANADIANS, improve incentives for having children by CANADIANS, better social services for CANADIANS, improve our education systems to encourage CANADIANS to take over the job opportunities. use the money for refugees and asylum seekers for tuitions for post-secondary education for CANADIANS. They should have bern investing in infrastructure years ago instead of lowering the interest rate and fuelling a housing bubble that put money into the.pockets of developers, those in construction and fellow politicians.
